Amen. It's vicious by design and nefarious by intent and should be treated as nothing less. The people and organizations responsible for it should be treated as organized crime syndicates. Survival should be made difficult for them. They need to be snuffed out.

They should be but it should be 25% more than an acceptable FE base price not screwed 25% harder than already screwed for 200% more than what an FE should sell for. None, not one, of the GPUs are worth the price they are being advertised at. Everyone that buys one is getting sodomized. And if the only thing available turns out to be shitty Windows 11 driver support it will be getting shanked in the groin on top of the sodomization. There are already components on new motherboards that have no Windows 10 drivers. I'd love to round up all their idiots responsible for that, put them into a cage and drop the cage into the ocean. They are unworthy of oxygen.

Well that woud explain why I can't get wifi working with my Asus Maximus Z790 Apex Encore no matter what I do. That's been making me feel like an idiot, but that would make total sense as the reason why it isn't working for me. Fortunately that is also the only component that doesn't work, and I have a few USB wifi adapters laying around, so I'm just using my wireless AC one. It works well enough.

If I am not mistaken, I-225V LAN was the last NIC driver that could be successfully modded for W7 support and I think Intel LAN after I-226V and the latest AX WiFi has no Windows 10 driver support. I think WiFi 7 is not allowed to be Windows 10 compatible (by driver development being blocked). We are living in the bad old days for PC, with worse days looming on the horizon. What they do not deliberately screw up gets screwed up by accident.

After I repasted the Strix 1080 it has been great and I haven't even bothered putting the 3090 Ti back into that system. I've tested quite a few games on the 1080 after work (it's my work PC) and everything run smoothly and plays very nice at 1440p.

With overclocking and benching being intentionally diminished and destroyed by the dishonest, retarded and corrupted "leaders" of the industry, I am quickly moving in the direction of not buying anything new and reverting to older hardware whenever a purchase is necessary or desired. It sure would be nice if enough gamers could grow their gonads and deny themselves of juvenile pleasures long enough to inflict some major financial harm on all of the big tech companies. But, that will never happen because their priorities are all jacked up.

Gimmicks. Other than the image looking kind of rough and a tiny bit muddy with AMD FidelityFX turned on, I seriously can't tell the difference between these settings. I can measure the FPS with the benchmark, but otherwise would have no clue which one was turned on or if all are turned off.

As far as NVIDIA (or AMD or Intel) being honest... what I said the other day about wishing in one hand...

Well, got a new board, gigabyte aorus elite x870E, and no Windows 10 drivers for the realtek wifi module. I absolutely loathe windows 11 nearly as much as I loathed windows 10 from 7. After a few years of hacking, tweaking, and creating a personal theme via windows style builder, I could use windows 10 without constantly having the taste of vomit in my mouth. Now microshaft is pulling the same crap they did in 2015, and it's pathetic. I remember the days when I was running Windows XP Alpha's as daily drivers, because I couldn't wait to try the next gen OS coming from Redmond. Now I do everything I can to stay away from the Filth they release now days. Linux has had decades to put something worthwhile out to compete, but I've yet to find anything worth my time or effort to make the switch completely.....sigh.

Hardware addictions aren't nearly as fun as it used to be!

It's sad to think that an OS could suck bad enough make a die hard computer nut stop caring about computers, but Winduhz 11 sucks bad enough that the thought of being forced into using it makes me want to be done with computers. When they pull poop-for-brains crap like not having driver support for an OS that is still supported to force you to into using the undesirable latest version it makes me wish for very bad things to happen to the people and companies  that are responsible for that. Their command and control approach to things is unacceptable. And, I certainly do hope that very bad things happen to them in the very near future. It has never been more unlikely that I will purchase new hardware because I'm not willing to embrace daily use of the crappy OS required by the new hardware.

I wonder what Asus will charge for the 5080 Astral. The extra fan and the design cost equal much for the 5080 as for the 5090 Sku. Hmmm. $1.899.99 ?😛 The 5090 FE looks cheaper and cheaper, LOL

Have we ever seen a xx80 with such low performance uplift over previous gen cards? I don't talk about vanilla vs Super refresh. Why not give the 5080 a few more cuda cores when they know the TSMC node was the same? This is awful results if the benchmarks is correct. All people get is some tuned software/features.

Imagine pay $1.877.99 for the 5080 Astral and get 4080 refresh performance?😬

I expect Nvidia could never have done the same screw up with xx90 due the massive price increase for 5090.

Imagine if the 5080 can run 34Gbps, that’s where it will whoop the 4080 Super for sure. Those cards are so limited by the 256 bit. That would be a 48% faster memory speed on the GDDR7 compared to the GDDR6X. Pretty substantial difference. Maybe another 10-15% and for $999 it’s definitely better than nothing. Asus is still Nuts either way lol.

Nvidia screw their partners.... And make it more difficult for people to get the cards, as not all places offer Nvidia FE cards.

The limited availability of RTX 5090 cards also impacted product reviews. In some countries, review samples arrived less than 48 hours before the embargo deadline, with only a few reviewers selected who could commit to publishing on time. It was an unusually chaotic launch, particularly for custom, non-MSRP cards. However, the Founders Edition series reportedly had one of the largest sample distributions in history, we hear from our media friends.

Astral 5090 vs Strix 4090 for Coil Whine:

The coil whine on the Strix 4090 is the soul crushing, ear destroying type that sends any card right back or to the for sale forums / ebay.

Astral is still annoying, but nowhere near on the same level as that Strix. That is how my 3090 FE sounded.

----

It seems just about every reviewer made note of the coil whine of the 5090 FE which now has me very wary but de8auer's review where he holds the mic up to it shows it's not nearly as bad as previous FEs or even as bad as the Astral.

That's how I look at it too. 34gbps is pretty hefty but overall these cards are coming off the line already pushing limits ala Intel style. basically 600w out the door. Let's be realistic here.

For me, my favorites have now changed to (in order):

Suprim AOC

Suprim Liquid

Astral

FE

It is the same cycle again. Just like the 4080 wasn't really an upgrade for 3090 owners. Only upgrade for a 4090 owner is again another 090 class card. You either break the cycle by skipping a few generations and picking up an 080 or even 070 class card, or you keep lining up for the next 090 card:

full

I personally don't think there will be a 5090ti with those full fat dies being earmarked for their AI targeted cards and a $3k+ Titan but....

If Nvidia released a 5090ti, it would fall into their TI cadence though.

1080 was followed up the next year with a 1080ti

2080ti was launched and stayed top dog

3090 was followed up a year and a half later with the 3090ti

4090 was launched and stayed top dog

5090 = ?????

Getting NVIDIA’s RTX 50 Series GPUs At MSRP Would Be A “Surprise”; Team Green Leaves AIB Partners With Slim Margins

I said it before and I'll say it again. Nvidia aspires to be Apple. They want to control the entire supply chain and they are pushing just as hard to release CPUs as GPUs to sell the complete, integrated package.

They don't want AIBs but need them still and each generation they continue to abuse them with draconian control measures and destroy their margins causing their prices to keep going up for us end users to purchase.

Nvidia is top dog and they know it. AMD has absolutely nothing to offer at the upper end so Nvidia can price things however they want and with AI booming, we get the defective dies/chopped down cores on the 5090 and the Titan and AI segment get the full fat cores.

----

As consumers we vote with our wallets and that's that. When, collectively, we stop buying enough to make a dent on their bottom line and the bean counters sound the alarm, THAT is when they will take their boot off our throats if only a smidge.

Till then? Business as usual.

Well sure you would. So would I. But I don't think I'd be happy with everybody that owned a 5090 being capped at the same maximum memory overclock. That totally defeats the purpose of owning a product you bought to overclock. Super stupid. The silicon quality should determine the max overclock not the NVIDIOT Nazis.

That's one of the Ryzen gotchas, too. You can overclock as much as you want to as long as you're happy raising BCLK to bypass the stupid low fused limits on the CCD core ratios.

Gamer sheeple ruin everything for overclocking enthusiasts and the idiots that make the hardware seem to think that gamers and overclockers are the same thing. It must really suck for them to be that stupid, but they probably don't even have an awareness of it.

bUKWbd0.gif

I need a better 9950X so I can run the FCLK at 2200+ but the memory seems to be doing well enough.

If I used Wi-Fi I'd be yanking all of the crappy Wi-Fi cards off motherboards that only had Windows 11 driver support and replacing them with a Wi-Fi card that offered Windows 7 and Windows 10 driver support. This idiotic new Windows 11-only driver support crap is just utter nonsense. I'm okay (for now) though because I don't care about Wi-Fi or BlueTooth. I don't use either one on my desktops and have them disabled in the BIOS.

What I really want is an LGA1700 15900KX 16 P-core hyperthreaded no E-core 6.0GHz AVX-512 CPU. Then I wouldn't care that my 9950X can't do 2200+ FCLK.

34gbps is pretty hefty but overall these cards are coming off the line already pushing limits ala Intel style. basically 600w out the door. Let's be realistic here.

Wonder if they'll have similar challenges (and failures) with pushing weaker silicon samples to the brink like Intel has? Wouldn't that be special to spend $2500+ on a clock-blocked GPU that started dying from silicon degradation?

sure thing, no prob: how does 1000W TDP at stock with a price tag of 1500 USD sound? 😄 knowing Intel, that would roughly be the specs for such a cpu hahaha

funny enough tho, if they removed the E cores (+2 P cores) and also the iGPU (+4 P cores) or just supplied a bare minimum igpu like AMD does (just display windows desktop, thats it, great for troubleshooting purposes or backup), then they might have enough die space to make it work on LGA1700.

Honestly, it sounds way better to me than a $2500-$3000 clock-blocked GPU with a small performance bump over its predecessor. :classic_wink:

tru, the perf bump would be REAL, and that at half price 😛 guessing time: would 16 P cores be enough to beat a 9950X?

For me, my favorites have now changed to (in order):

Suprim AOC

Suprim Liquid

Astral

FE

For me... Never had luck with any MSI. Same with Gigabyte. And cards with AIO won't happen (I swap in and out way too many cards to bother with the Liquid versions). I just love old cards. Buy custom GPU blocks are way too expensive here, so I doubt it will happen. And I will never get back the money I paid for the block. Norway is a land for the average Joe. Cute pretty small Pc builds. Or small Alienware/MSI boxes. Aka prebuilt trash.

I don't like the design of the aircooled Suprim + as already mentioned above, so the 5090 series for my taste looks problematic. Availability of different 5090 SKUs is also something to consider. Almost nothing as usual here home. As for now I can only see the Astral. But the price for what you get is awful. Galax killed the HOF so maybe I'll just go back to the fence and see what happens.

Edit. Even if we could get the FE here home (won't happen), I wouldn't buy it. I don't like hardware design meant for mini-boxes. Reminds me all too much about Dell and their prefered design.

sooo... that leaves PNY, Palit, Gainward, Colorful and GALAX (regular skus)?

fun fact: i just started playing Titanfall 2, pretty great looking game, esp. considering its from 2016 😄 maxxed out im running in the range of 100-200 fps, pretty smooth.

what i was surprised of though: its pushed my 4090 to new heights, got a new all-time high at 1125 W while gaming (full system via wattmeter at the socket). gpu is regularly pulling 700+ W. crazy stuff!

Not interested in gamer cards for the masses from Galax. Galax have always put the work into the HOF models. Not sure where they will go now as the xx90 class is mostly D dubbed cards (20% vanilla versions and 80% castrated D models for Asia). KFA2 is Galax but they offer same lower end cards now for Europe. Have had Gainwards. Cheapo made. And that brand + Gigabyte is the brands that suddenly died due my hobby. Not sure where I will go now. I will sit down and see.

And Palit is the big mother for several GPU brands. But where or what is their flagship now? Nothing.

Did Galax officially cancel the HOF or is it just a rumor?
