Probably a good idea for nobody to install updated GeForce drivers on any system (regardless of GPU) until this blows over. Whatever goofed up those 50-series cards might have some unexpected results with older GPUs that have not been noticed yet. NVIDIA is able to update firmware through their drivers. I wonder if maybe that is what killed those reported to have been bricked.

 

It would also be interesting to know if any of them are on systems using GPU riser cables instead of the GPU getting connected directly to the PCIe slot. I know that if you install a PCIe 4.0 GPU into a PCIe 3.0 riser cable the GPU will not work. I encountered that specific problem once, I think with 3090. I would expect similar issues with PCIe 5.0.

I was thinking the same thing having just watched Roman's video. So many issues and oddities with the 5090s but with most AIBs having at most a few weeks to actually slap the chips on and test their designs, it makes sense.

 

I would also expect more issues with the 5090 vs 5080 since the 5090 is basically redlining right out of the box.

 

Meanwhile, Nvidia has had the entire lead up time to vet their engineering and design and get it right and it is still having some issues.

 

I'm just not seeing a realistic scenario without dual 12vhpr ports for a true enthusiast 5090.

lol, it's true! All you need to do is look around and realize overclockers are an ever shrinking minority in the sea of hardware users. it's evident how companies have taken over with boosting algorithms to properly give every end user access to the bulk of their CPU/GPU's performance naturally.

 

Yeah, too much myopic focus on gaming and benching (present company included). Sometimes we forget all the other advantages and upgrades in the 5000 series especially to content creators and AI along with better display standards for starters never mind all the gaming "enhancements" it received.

 

I think when all is said and done, the 5080 is going to be the overclocking gem of this generation since there are no, real limitations to power out of the box like the 5090 is brushing up against even at stock.

 

My biggest fear is Nvidia analyzed the cross BIOS flashing vulnerabilities and have locked down the 5000 series even tighter.

 

New ranking for desired 5090:

 

#1. Gigabyte Windforce (good cooler, MSRP)

#2. Suprim Liquid (Why fix what ain't broke?)

#3. Suprim Air (Like a Liquid, but easy to move case to case)

#4. Astral (Because if you're being stupid with your money, why not be EXTRA stupid?)

#5. 5090 FE (MSRP, but reports of crazy coil whine and weird noises and issues seem to keep increasing)

No, nothing. All 5 of them probably went to those whose names were added earlier. But, at least you won't have to worry about it being DOA or bricked by drivers. That would be such a terrible experience. (I remember when my 4090 Suprim Liquid X died after only a few days of use for no understandable reason. That was not a good day.)

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 launches tomorrow everyone!!!!! I have been waiting 7 years for this one. 
 

I just read a performance review of the game completely maxed out, and let’s just say the RTX4090 is strong to the BONE 💪 (I only saw a 4080 Super in the performance review, but based on what that thing does with no scaling and no frame gen, running 4K experimental graphics detail, the 4090 will CRUSH this title in 4K 😃

 

I figured this would be the case. This was really the main reason why I wanted a 5090 first and foremost and for future titles like GTA 6. But now I really kind of don’t care too much lol. The 4090 is still the ultimate in GPU power. 

I'm tempted to use some of my saved funds to finish my V3000+ case build and throw my 4090 on water cooling and just be done with the whole thing.

I already have $500 sitting there waiting on an Xbox Series X. Or the next gen console, but we shall see as it's suppose to drop this year. Thanks to leaks that set the game back 2 years so far.😂

No love for the PS5 Pro? They look pretty good to me. But I haven’t owned a Sony since I was 12 years old, and that was a PS2 and GTA 3. I’ll never forget saving up the money to buy GTA3 at Toy’s R US, all they had was a used copy and the game was literally broken. 😞 the disc was damaged and you could only play to the part of “My hands are all

No love! The last time I played on a Play Station was when we were on a 130 game win streak (COD) and Play Station networked crashed right after that. Went to Xbox after that and never looked back. I did have a PS2 in the car for my kid back in the day though.

I fix it for you. It's Alienware. It's more like a custom card. If MSI and ASUS can sell 5080's $500 above MSRP.... Why not DELL Alienware?🤩 

 

Gamers need to stop complaining about lack of 5000 series graphics cards. Dell will always be there for you. You could sell the rest of the trash on Ebay. Just put in your old 4060 or even older cards. Many gamers don't know what they buy, so....😀 With nice bling bling and the desktop design they want....

shoot, was excited to see the 5090 suprim at one of the shops im monitoring available for purchase! nothing in stock ofc but the price was MSRP for the suprim, so figured: order now, fix the MSRP price and dont mind waiting / not having to look for availability every day anymore!

 

but nope, shop cancelled the order cuz they apparently "dont take preorders"....ummmm, then why do they leave the purchase button activated? 😄 

 

anyways, i was excited for like half an hour today hahaha

If we were going to try to find just one nice thing to say it  would be this new model is not nearly as insanely ugly as almost all of the recent Alienware turdboxes have been since the introduction of the Dorito torilla chip shaped eyesore forward. At least this one somewhat resembles (aesthetically) what a normal person would appreciate. It's by no means a "beautiful" machine, but at least it's not as ugly and goofy-looking as usual.

 

Do I want one and would I buy one? Of course not. But, it doesn't make me feel as compelled to ridicule it based solely on how ridiculously ugly it looks.

im currently thinking about just biting the bullet and selling my 4090 since pricing is going to the moon atm. i have several upgrades planned (storage and cpu for sure, potentially RAM and a timepiece) and id like to use the expected freetime i have in march to tune in my machine. 

 

issue being, if i just use the budget i have right now ill not be trigger ready whenever the 5090 drops. thats why selling the 4090 now might be a good approach...

 

hmmmm, what are y`all thinking? lets have a small poll here:

 

 

Option 1)

use the 5090 budget to upgrade storage & cpu, and recharge it via selling off current parts

- risking insufficient budget when 5090 drops but 4090 at the ready for daily use

 

 

Option 2)

sell off 4090 for a moon price to do storage + cpu upgrade

- having to deal with iGPU on a daily basis but ready anytime for 5090 drops

I've actually considered selling my Gigabyte 4090 for a good bit more than what I paid for it new and replacing it with another 3090 Ti but the problem I am seeing is that ALL video cards are either not desirable, not available, extremely/absurdly overpriced or all of the above. I literally could not buy any GPU that I consider desirable for an acceptable price right now. The only GPUs available for acceptable prices are the obsolete weaker crap nobody wants. Those were garbage on their launch day, and the reason they are still available is that nobody smart wanted them. Why would I pay more than MSRP of a 5090 for a 3090? That would require an extraordinary degree of stupidty, but the people with more money (or credit cards) than common sense are real.

 

The logic isn't there. That would be like selling your house for a massive profit knowng that you could not replace your home with something equivalent for less, or better with the profit earned on the sale, and you would ultimately end up losing money unless you moved to a new place where the housing values were substantially lower. Only then would there be an intelligent path forward. If you planned to stay in the same neighborhood or town you'd ultimately be an idiot for selling something that could not be replaced.

It looks like they did make some intelligent changes that were needed for a very long time. Perhaps the negative Gamer's Nexus video(s) helped them pull their heads out of their bottoms. The 360 AIO, standard PSU and standard ATX (non-proprietary) form factor motherboards would allow a person to replace parts or upgrade without problems instead of having a big box filled with worthless e-waste. I don't take that to mean that there is hope for the Alienware brand, but it does leave some room for hope for their victims that made tragic buying choices.

 

While I believe in calling balls and strikes and being unapologetically brutal when criticism is due, I also believe that good decisions deserve to be acknowledged. If you want more good decisions to follow, you almost have to. Admitting when something is done right doesn't mean you think the product is good or desirable overall. Sold mine for $2100 and prices are absolutely insane right now hitting 2700+ for the liquid.

Picked up a 4070 Super to tide me over w/ 60 day BB return window

Snagged a 5080 FE on launch

Returned 4070 Super on very last day eligible (Feb 1st)

5080 FE has a return window till April 2nd (like that would happen)

Plan on rocking the 5080 FE till an MSRP 5090 potentially drops

If I managed to snag a 5090, hopefully sell off of the 5080 FE can cover most of the expense since I blew the last of  

  my Fall sell off budget picking up @win32asmguy's beastly 18" 4090 laptop to travel.

If you can stomach going without a GPU, sell it for a bit of profit while the market is ultra dry. Pick up a holdover GPU  if needed. You had $$$ set aside for the 5090 anyhow, so use a good chunk of the 4090 sale and address other upgrades and needs or toys. 🙂

 

I know with the 5080 FE, those 99% utilizations I had all over the place with the 4070 Super are gone again and I'm back into 4090 territory with the 5080 FE being bottlenecked all over the place with the 14900KS, so the next big project is rebuilding out my main rig with the x870e hero + 9800X3D which is finally tuned up as tight as I can get it for my needs then let's see if this 5080 FE keeps laughing.

 

I don't mind being GPU less for a few months or rocking a much lesser GPU. I rocked that 4070 Super for a solid two months and survived.

 

When I sold my 3090 before, I rocked a 3060 for a month or two and survived.

I could totally survive with the Strix 1080 that I recent bought on the cheap as a backup solution for unplanned contingencies. The 3060 I had before was also totally OK for most purposes. So was the Arc GPU. All very decent products and currently priced to value, but not exceptionally desirable or impressive by current standards.

 

The problem is first-world... I don't want to. 🤣 I'm also generally less optimistic about things going according to my plans when I am not totally in control of everything. I am always confident in myself, but very rarely  confident in others making decisions or doing things that I approve of. Usually something close to opposite of intelligent is what ends up occurring. Trusting others to do the right thing is always difficult for me when I do not control the process and the people.

 

My luck being what it is, if I sold my used Gigabyte 4090 Gaming OC for $2500+ I would never find a 5090 model I wanted for less than $3000 or $3500. So, I tend to take the safer "bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" approach.
