Are you using the latest GeFarts drivers? I've heard not-so-great things about the new driver with 50-series support.

What if you disable the WiFi/BT module in the BIOS? Any change? Lots of X870E owners are having really goofy problems with the latest Windows Updates and drivers, especially with WiFi/BT modules causing undesirable things. I always disable WiFi/BT in the BIOS and have not experienced any of that silly stuff myself.

If your Z890 motherboard has that new crappy PCIe connector clamp abortion instead of the release button, also check the PCIe edge connector on the GPU to make sure the new A$$zeus invention did not damage the gold contact fingers.

No drivers because I'm not in windows. This is just booting to the bios.

Just found another one and that one does boot X16. The one in question is the the MSI 4060

No connector damage. Release works perfectly fine.

I believe none of the 4060 GPUs are X16. I can vaguely remember that they are all X8, maybe 4070 as well. I did not pay close attention to that because I do not consider anything below a 4080 to be a relevant product. The Green Goblin deliberately crippled all of the reasonably priced products more than the crippled but still-expensive overpriced products.

Edit: that seems to be correct. 4060 and 4060Ti.
Yes, all Nvidia RTX 4060 graphics cards are limited to a PCIe x8 interface

That makes sense that it may be IS only x8, but I never paid it any mind before now.

You can move the memory slider to  the moon if you want but nothing works above 34000. Why not let you put whatever memory overclock your graphics card can handle? nvidia being more and more disgusting. Can't remember have seen nvidia have locked you out from add whatever memory overclock you want. What next?

And you get even less overclock from the faster 32 Gbps vram.

@electrosoft

I’m thinking about grabbing a 5080 laptop from BestBuy when they come available. Performance over the 4080 looks pretty good on these. I don’t think I’ll keep it long term unless I absolutely love it. But, Ideally I’d want to give it a try and just see how I like it. What’s the return policy like with Bestbuy with the $50 dollar plus membership or whatever it’s called? I think I remember you buying some Strix G18 4080 machine and keeping it for a while, then returning it. Wasn’t that the one that had coil whine? Also, are you done with laptops as well?

It is worth the $50 to get a membership if you buy frequently. The return period goes from 14 days to 60 days which is a game changer.

I do usually end up picking up enough items over the course of the year to make back the membership fees. For example, I needed a new GPS and the member price was $65 cheaper than non members and everywhere else so boom, cost covered.

Obviously I was able to return my 4070 Super on the 60th day of use.

And yeah, I tried and returned two G18 laptops. Loved the 18" display, but that absolutely locked down BIOS and more importantly needing to run Armory Crate to get access to the boost voltage for the CPU and GPU was a deal breaker.

No advantages getting GPUs though. 😞 Best Buy did it a few times with Ampere and the user base went bonkers ape$(%& over it so they stopped that quickly.

Hmmm. Isn't it fantastic. AMD won't charge more $$$ for their xx70 tier cards than what Nvidia already can do for 5070Ti and 5070... AMD (F.Azor) is listening, could it launch its graphics cards at a lower price than NVIDIA's. And AMD don't even use the more expensive GDDR7 vram... Hmmm.

AMD hints that the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 could be cheaper than the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070

Thanks, I’m gonna see what all the fuss is about on these modern turd books. I’m really just curious. Haven’t ran a laptop in YEARS. And with Frame Gen, and GDDR7, I can only imagine these machines are much more capable systems for gaming, than RTX 3000 laptops. But I wanna see first hand, but I do not want to get stuck with something that cost $3,000 lol, nor do I want to be forced to run it for 7-14 days and decide on such a small time frame if I’m going to keep such an expensive and depreciating item..

Are you running any laptops currently?

I just snagged this HWlabs 480GTX White and it’s brand new! $120.00 shipped. 😃. Now I just need two more! I made an offer to performance PC’s who also has some on eBay.

Im going to run (3) HWLabs 480 GTX or GTR’s. In my Lian Li V3000+ I am probably going to just waterblock my 4090 and use it.

Running three of these is literally the best of the best. 😃

yeah i dont get it either what kinda strat AMD is trying to follow... even at performance parity, love or hate the Nvidia DLSS / Reflex / Tensor based software features, red team needs to provide a substantial value advantage. but here they are, thinking they can do the same shit Nvidia does and get away with it, while scratching their heads why Radeon market share is steadily shrinking...

If I were going to sell it I would gladly swap GPUs so you could have it blocked and ready to go. I am not planning to sell and if I buy a GPU it will be a used or refurbished 3090 Ti or 3090 for $800 or less. At this point there is no legitimate reason for me to spend money on anything. I will buy an X870E Apex as soon as I can, but only because I want it. It's not needed and I am about 99% sure it won't do better at overclocking the CPU or memory than the X670E Gene already does. My limiting factor is silicon quality, not motherboard.

I don't think he actually shows what he did to power mod it. I watched it through once and tried skimming through it a couple of times and it seems he skipped over that in the video. Which kind of sucks because that was the only reason I even watched it. I wanted to see what he did. I am assuming he did a simple shunt mod.

I wonder if he has been watching some of my old YouTube videos. I have been using the scribe a line at the perimeter of thermal paste before cleaning it up to mark where to apply liquid metal for years. It wasn't long after I showed using a thin foam gasket in one of my videos that ASUS started doing it, and now its pretty normal.

That beats my 9950X by a little bit with roughly the same effective CPU clocks. It's a shame these newer Intel CPUs have regressed in clock speed. 5.7GHz is hard to view as something special from Intel or AMD. It was awesome a few years ago.

Use point 11:01 and 11:43 time stamp in the video. He either removed the 4 shuts(?) or added on top of them. I think it's on top. And the one on back bottom right corner is changed.

My chip seems to tap out at 5.750 Ghz unless i start going negative temps I suspect.

They have a 7950HX3D available as a laptop CPU? Amazing. I had no idea. @electrosoft how much was the new 4090 machine?

Yeah, MSI makes an 18" variant and Asus makes a 17.3" version.

The one I'm picking up is the MSI variant.

He uses liquid metal for the shunt but he doesn't want to show exactly what he did so others won't try it and damage their cards or some such nonsense.....

I know I used an X-acto knife to etch for liquid metal for well over ten years now. I know I saw others who did it too and / or used electrical tape once and after that, the staining from that initial application of LM left a guideline so you didn't need to use tape or etching ever again and always have a guide.

I actually used to clean everything up, reapply the thickest (prevent pump out or bleeding) thermal paste exactly as possible and remount to get as clean as possible an image of the working area before etching or masking.

So with all that card moving he is doing in the video, how is the LM holding the 5 chips to the board or the uneven chips underneath them?

12:20 If he did, that is one hell of a good job!

Edit: Doesn't LM eat up the solder? So leaving this on a shunt for long term would be bad right? Or did that change over the last few years?

We'll never know how he applied it since he doesn't want to show anyone just in case they damage their card.

One of his shortcomings is a weird fascination with information hording and bragging. It goes against the spirit of enthusiasts and sharing.

If someone asks me a question about a setting or a hardware mod or whatever, I always freely share. I always have and always will. I was and am the same way with coding styles and algorithms. Whenever anyone asked me about how I wrote a specific part of code in assembly (WAY back in the day) or C or Pascal (I guess today would be Swift), I would just explain to them what I did and usually provide sample code because, why not?

So when I bump up against other tech heads that get weirdly possessive about their methodology or information (outside of truly competitive arenas and/or financial stakes of course), they just seem strange and sad.
