One thing I love about Microcenter is they test all returned GPUs even 9070xt's and have a series of testing and steps to verify the cores and memory are there. When I returned both open boxes the Ventus 5090 (opting to keep the Vanguard) and the Challenger 9070xt (flat out defective), they tested and visually inspected both with a fine tooth comb. Still, the Challenger 9070xt open box managed to make it out of the store into my hands though clearly defective but I described how that happened in a post here months ago.

Such scumbags out there it just grosses me out sometimes.......

I'm thinking he tried to return it after the 15 day return period non BB plus members have. I figure the cost of the $50/yr membership gives me a 60 day return window and I usually end up racking up enough savings from member plus specials to make it worthwhile.

I know playing the open box game I've gotten my fair share of stinkers from CPUs to GPUs to cameras and more. There's always a small bit of apprehension but the savings are insane sometimes. I've easily saved 10's of thousands of dollars over the years shopping open box or buying used or doing your due diligence.

But stripping 5080's now?!......

Well this should be a fun ride. 🙂

Congrats on the hardware pickups and looking forward to seeing it all up and running and hopefully a good bin comes your way bro!

Always did like the look of the dom platz and continues on with the titanz.

Same two are still in stock at our local MC for the Gigabyte Tron Edition 5090.....$5299 is insanity....

I love the look of the new Asus Astral 20 but that price? Well, I guess if people keep paying these prices they will keep selling them. I don't blame Asus at all. I blame consumers who can't say no....

Yeah I hope AMD is a smooth transition. I might assemble this thing on the Praxis test bench, run a single D5 pump, and single 480mm GTX, this way I don’t have to take anything out if my V3000+ plus case, and I could do some testing and make sure it runs okay.

What exactly would a good or decent bin be? Is this based on SP? Or max ram OC with Gear 1?

I want to push the fastest Gear 1 speeds possible. 😁 And I’m not settling for a turd chip. I’ll accept average or slightly above average is fine with me. But $900 for a turd is not acceptable.

I hope that your hard work and faithfulness is recognized by your employer and pays off in compensation equal to the time and effort. It generally does when you are working for a respectable organization. Good companies know that good employees are hard to replace and need to be retained.

It's sad how things are turning to crap for our hobby. It's hard to get excited about anything from AMD, Intel or NVIDIA. Not only because of abusive, predatory pricing. Everything is riddled with compromises and mediocrity in one or more areas. Hardly anything is awesome. Even the extremely retarded price of a 5090 gets you a GPU that has been deliberately castrated in terms of power and voltage controls needed for overclocking excellence, a dangerously inept power delivery mechanism (12VHPWR) and dishonest, unreliable warranty handling by the OEMs and retailers. It applies to DDR5 and NVMe failures as well as GPU failures. "Sorry, we took your money, sold you a defective parts, but you're on you own now because we make more money selling the same parts to AI data centers for 150-300% more than what you paid for them."

Now even Best Buy is selling "open box" GPUs with no core and memory. Clearly they did not bother testing anything before putting it on the shelf. This video from Alex should help the victimized customer get a refund. I'm surprised it wasn't handled and made its way into a video like this.

I’m shocked about that! My 5090 Astral OC  was an open box from BestBuy so I was nervous since it was $3,800+ with tax, I wanted a return policy just in case, I tried the whole local Facebook market place thing, I almost got scammed with a core-less/memory-less 5090 , and this worried me. It’s also very hard to see the chips and core on the Astral models, when I first plugged it in, I had no display at all. And I was like dang! I got a dud! But turns out I just didn’t have the display port seated all the way in the GPU. I had to loosen and lower the card down like 0.5mm so I could clear the back I/O on my case. Then it finally came to life! 😀 But it’s very worrisome. You never know what you’re gonna get. Even if we tested a card that seems okay, it could suddenly artifact or be defective some way that avoided our initial inspection. For the first few days just left it stock and let it ride. I think mine was 100% returned due to buyer remorse. It has held completely stable, and OCs good enough for me.

Crazy they are stripping 5080’s though!! I’m surprised by that.
