wooooo weve all been waiting for this! now we can finally start the SERIOUS benching with A380s 😄 easy way to collect points on the bot 🤠 whos gonna be the first to go LHe on this beast? 🤣

I went ahead and ordered one of those Asrock A380's to play around with. $150 shipped. I'm curious to see how it stacks up, temps, OC potential and more. It will go into my "Pile 'O Projects" queue. I'm sure it is a more than capable 1080p card which is where it will be tested on my Dell 144hz 1080p 25" test bench display.

Will you pair it with next gen Ryzen? Your're a patient man brother. Could be AMD have ruled out all bugs in the new platform after the rumored delay. At least it will be done before Zen 5 or the 3D-stacked refresh for Zen 4🙂

I was shocked he uploaded it. He was basically crapping all over overclocking saying it took no skill, was brain dead easy and pointless. Basically biting the hand that fed him. Essentially calling overclockers no-lifers and losers essentially and how it was a pointless pursuit along with a bunch of other vitriol.

Even in that short while it was up, some jumped down his throat and I am sure he realized his ramblings, rants and BS had struck a nerve even inside his own, small echo chamber. He needs to stick with just doing hardware comparisons and experiments and testing.

Once it is seeded and you watch it, you'll see quickly what I mean.

This quote is incorrect:

"As noted by ProHardver, with Alder Lake CPUs power uncapping beyond PL2 limit did not provide noticeable performance improvement, mainly because the CPU was not designed for such power. For Raptor Lake-S this concept will be expanded on supported platforms."

Pushing past PL2 (~241w) definitely yields an equally scalable increase in performance on ADL. Hopefully refinements will allow RPL to handle those higher package pulls better though but the silicon is basically the same under the hood + more e-cores and cache so we will see.

Very much reminds me of when SandyBridge first dropped, all the X58 elites were pissed that OCing was too simple and easy.

I mean I appreciate overcoming a learning curve as much as the next guy/gal but that perspective didnt make much sense to me at the time.

With the news of students with ITT Technical Institute going under and the now loan forgiveness, to which I am also of their number, while digging up some documents I came across a short essay on laptops and cooling.

In reality, I just wanted to use my laptop "modification" as an essay because I lack motivation otherwise. I chuckled at myself as half my citations come from NBR, circa 2012Capture.PNG.1758828469a4ca639e6516645eda85ea.PNG

I spent some time on my desktop this evening.

Swapped out the 3080 for the 3090 since I wont be mining as much on the 3090 (not very efficient)

Also dialed in some tuning for the AM4 desktop.

I was surprised to be able to get a stable 3800Mhz out of the DDR4 ram considering this sBIOS is (I believe) still on release version, at the very least I have never updated it. 09/04/2019 F5 version for my Aorus Pro WiFi (ITX). Was hoping to get 4000Mhz but I would likely need to update my sBIOS for that to happen? So far was able to get 4.3Ghz on the CPU, not sure if this chip has 4.4Ghz in it or not, maybe I will keep testing tomorrow.

While I am sure many here wouldnt approve, I have tuned my 3090 for what ever I can get out of 1V, seems to like 2050Mhz on the core and +1250 on the memory. Reason being I am running all this on a 550w SFF PSU. Its a good unit, and its been letting me push the CPU while not complaining about the (initial) 400w from the GPU lol

Well, I guess I am in for some fun now with MSI. DIMM #2 slot seems to have crapped out on my Unify-X. It can't boot with RAM in that slot, only DIMM #1 slot works. I have a gut feeling that this also somehow relates to the SPD corruption that happened when I flashed BIOS A60 over a month ago. MSI just blew me off and said that can't happen and told me to RMA the memory. I hope they don't give me a bunch of crap like they did Brother @johnkssswhen he had his MSI RMA fiasco. I have carefully examined the slot in bright light with a 10x magnifying glass and can't see anything physically wrong with it. There is no debris, nothing broken and no contact pins out of place. I went ahead and cleaned the slot with a lint-free alcohol prep pad and I tested other memory modules. It  definitely seems to be a fault with the DIMM #2 slot as far as I can tell.

This just started this evening. Corsair sent me some DDR5 for a product review. I ran some tests on it... quite a few actually. I then tweaked some BIOS settings for the RAM, rebooted and it instantly stopped working with Q-code 55 (memory not installed) with that slot occupied.

image.png.61399c9b9c9d228ed199310be44b8894.png

I swapped out the memory for my original sticks and same thing. Any of the 4 memory modules will boot in DIMM #1 slot, but as soon as I populate DIMM #2 slot the code 55 returns.

I swapped out the memory for my original sticks and same thing. Any of the 4 memory modules will boot in DIMM #1 slot, but as soon as I populate DIMM #2 slot the code 55 returns.

You may only need to take the cpu out and check the contacts. Then boot from one slot, then add the other stick.

I will try that and see if anything changes. I had not disturbed anything  with the CPU, but that might not mean anything necessarily.

I have found that to be the loss memory dimm problem more than not. over time the pins may give under pressure and start to touch another pin cancelling out one of the dim slots. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just checked it out. All of the pins look good using a powerful magnifying glass. Also everything really clean. No fuzz, dust or thermal paste on anything. I put everything back together, not overly tight on the CPU frame or water block and still have the same issue... code 55 and the RAM LED stays lit until I remove the DIMM from slot #2. It was certainly worth investigating. I can tell MSI that I already checked that if they ask.

Considering the totally random odd behavior I have experienced with this board, this may have been the root cause of it, including the memory getting the SPD corrupted during the firmware flash.

What triggered the misbehavior was removing and replacing RAM modules, so that is probably not a coincidence if something is wrong with that slot.

A few weeks ago I had this code 55 problem for a few minutes without making any changes, but the system automatically reset and cleared NVRAM all by itself, then it automatically started working again.

I have a P5000 16GB GPU in my Precision 17. Do you know if there is an unlocked vBIOS available for that?

Bought a GT75 Titan GPU heatsink and took it apart and mangled a few heatpipes (bent and expanded.) Not all of them are screwed though, and I might be able to build a VRM heating like this (with a smaller copper plate though):

IMG_3383.jpg

The only way for me to cool the VRMs would be something like the picture above. I know one giant heatpipe would be better, but this may be the only way to do it. How viable would this be?

I might be able to test if I can order a few small copper plates and I can use some other spare heatpipes to test how effective the transfer would be from the plate to the 2nd heatpipe.
