Beyond a certain point, more Mbps is almost useless.  I have 500 Mbps from my ISP, but my modem is only DOCSIS 3.0, so I only get about 343 Mbps.  I haven't bothered to upgrade it, I'd almost never notice the difference.  I only have that plan because it boosted the upload bandwidth majorly over the next one down.  That can come in handy, and very much did so during the NBRchive operation (which wouldn't have been helped up by more download speed anyway, due to the need to not make the server think it was being DDOSed).

My most recent purchase was a burrito.

I got my desktop back. It turns out the motherboard fried itself. Luckily, they didn't have another AS(s)Rock one in stock so they replaced it with an Asus TUF X570 Gaming Plus WiFi, which seems to have received generally positive reviews. While I was there, I picked up one of these. As much as I like the RX 6700 XT, NVIDIA's ray tracing is vastly superior, and that's a feature I've been using a lot. I had planned to get an Asus card to keep everything within the same ecosystem, but their 3080 was $300 more expensive than the EVGA. It's kind of funny because this is my first EVGA desktop GPU since the GTX 280.

My partner and I just reserved a flat that we're preparing to buy, and we're hopefully going to end up with gigabit internet, which I'm super excited for given that I haven't had it in quite a bit. Here's hoping it all goes well!

2 beautiful, shiny pieces of heavy metal 😃 (replacements for rusted, locking-up brake calipers).
Got them onto the car today, saving a small fortune with parts off ebay \ doing the work myself.

Got a Huawei Matebook D14 yesterday as my Thinkpad gave the ghost up (it was in super rough shape) and despite the same specs, seems to run a lot faster.

It's also a lot smaller so it's good for my backpack. Not a bad investment for around 370€ roughly.

Archival purposes is my main use for that sort of thing. Plus doing lots of low-ish bandwidth things at the same time ("low" as in multiple 4K streams and such).

I had to go for the 1.5GB package from Xfinity just to get faster upload speeds, and I use fast lightly.  Streaming from my Plex Server before the upgrade was painful.

Picked up an LG Gram 14 2-in-1 for a reasonable price.  Not sure how much I like it, but it does most of what I want to do on a laptop and will be nicer for traveling. Not sure if I want to get rid of my Thinkbook 16P though, that is such a nice laptop.

I've been buying extra food every time I go shopping for a long time now. Tins, bags of rice, long life kind of stuff.

My inner prepper is going kinda overdrive right now. But I'm not overly worried about the future.

Edit: Sorry I must clarify. I Am worried about the future, just not freakin out yet.

ordered a new laptop for my gf yesterday, it will be her first Clevo and the first system she will assemble and install herself (with my guidance, of course 😃). its a brand new model, just came out in April, specs are the following:

i5-12600 desktop cpu

3070 Ti (was surprised to see how much faster it is vs. 3070)

2x8 GB DDR4-3800 (self-upgrade)

1 TB 850 Pro (from previous machine)

FHD 240Hz screen

AX201 Wifi

the key for her is longevity, shes been using her current laptop for 11 years now, so i needed smth that would last her at least 10 years. thats why i wanted to have max flexibility in terms of upgrading parts, hence no way around desktop cpu machine. i think in about 3-5 years well do a major upgrade for cpu (12900k or raptor lake), ram (32 or 64 gigs), ssd (throw in a pcie 4 drive), wifi (whatever is new at that time) and screen (upgrade to QHD 165 Hz or better). thatll then bring her over the 10 year finish line easily i think 😁

i for one am of course profiting from getting to play around with new hardware @setup and tuning mwahaha 😁

I just got the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G.  My poor SGS 10 is slowly (rapidly) dying so I could not wait for the Z Flip4 to be released.  And Samsung offered a real good deal for it and threw in a Galaxy Watch 4.  One of my students in the Fall had the Flip.  It was a much better device that I expected so I am excited to finally get one.

Sadly they canceled the 75", but I ended up going from an older 65" Q70D to a 65" QN85B which is a pretty good step up for basically $50 after selling the old TV.  Not bad in the end, but not quite as nice as the first deal.

Yeah I had  TCL 5 serries(unfortunately 6 series was out of reach) 4k 50in and it was suprisingly good, I knew it would be good just was not expecting everything including speakers to be above par when I never even heard of TCL. I really really want a oled tv but some of those samsung qleds like the one you bought are more colorful(higher gamut) and have contrast ratios so high the infinite oled contrast is moot as measured its around 1:10000 and when a samsung Qled gets 8000-9500 contrast ratio the benfits vs cons of OLED are beaten by the Samsung QLEDS

in short smart move I hope you enjoy a show or two with your limited time off
