Official Clevo X170KM-G Thread

It looks like, if found the solution for the uncontrolled shutdowns. I disabled C-State a week ago. Since it's disabled - no shutdown 🙂

I don't feel any difference. Maybe Idle power consumption is higher but who cares 💁‍♂️

Remove all ram modules and stick only one under the backcover. 

And there is a GPU reset shortcut. But i don't know it. FN+D or ALT+D. Maybe someone know it.

The CPU draws more power because it doesn't enter power saving modes. To put simply, the voltage supplied to the CPU doesn't change and is static unless it is throttling or something like that.

 

All of the above means more power draw when idle, some tasks that might have drawn very little power might draw a lot for no particular reason and the CPU on average runs hotter.

 

This can help with stability though. Even when doing heavy undervolting.

Disabling C-State for the X170KM-G is only possible with unlocked BIOS.

I will try this setting, to see if it solves the problem 😉

Problem which however, in my case, is caused by the Control Center, i.e. when I activate the overclock in the BIOS, the "overclock" tile appears in the Control Center, and this component causes the Windows BSOD.
Without Control Center no BSOD occurs

That's the C-State options in the unlocked bios. Maybe i'll try to play with the settings, to keep C-State enabled

The Clevo laptops draw a lot of power anyway, up to about 10 times of what the CPU alone needs in a test I did with the X170KM-G to check battery life. So not very concerned with a few watt more, I would prefer that instead of having an unstable system.

 

I also doubt that the electric bill would go up by more than a few bucks per year because of that especially when it allows for a more aggressive undervolt that in turn will decrease consumption in situations with high power draw.

I enabled C-State again and disabled enhanced C-states. So C-State is not complete disabled. At the moment it works fine.

So WoL has been working perfectly except a few times in the last few days the NIC becomes unarmed after some time in Shutdown. I realised it has happened each time I’ve tried to reinstall the LED Keyboard app that mysteriously disappeared from CC.

 

Each time I’ve tried and failed to reinstall it (says my PC isn’t supported), my shutdown PC disappears from the network after a short time in shutdown. I think it’s causing the EC to crash and power to be removed from the NIC.

 

Testing this theory now but so far it seems to be it. 

 

edit3: I'm an idiot. WoL working fine, this other app to wake the machine I was using was the problem. The usual app from my phone is waking it reliably.

I looked at idle power draw again today and dunno where I got 30-40W from. It's more like 60-70W with C-states enabled and nothing running, which is about desktop level and is 1.5x my M1 Max MacBook Pro at full tilt.

On mine, idle power is ok and about 10 to 15w if i remember correctly (package TDP).

But i also reduce the power limit with Intel XTU.

Turbo boost power max: 45w
Turbo boost short power max: 65w

Its enough for >300fps in CS:GO

And when i need more power for rendering or something else, i switch the power profile.

I am looking at total system power in Hwinfo which includes everything in the system. My CPU also idles at 10-15W.

With your KF CPU you can't test hybrid GPU setting. Maybe that lower the all over power.

Did anybody the integrated GPU in daily use? How is the experience?

Would be interesting if somebody tested DGPU only vs iGPU vs Optimus for Office use when connected to power.

I only tested battery on iGPU and it still was rather disappointing but power savings when connected may be worth it for some.
