Clevo MXM 1080 Vram mod to 16GB

Hi!

I have heard that someone was upgraded the mxm 1080 to 16GB vram with the OC unlocked Vbios.

Is there any proof for that?

I haven't seen anything for the 1080's, but I know people who have doubled the VRAM of 3070's on the NH55 and the MXM 2080 Super.

Nice ! For a BGA 2080s its a magic to do 16GB mod. 

Those  MXM 2080S cards are rare,  and my 751tm probably cant handle that much heat,  with the non K i9 at 130W (normal) performance  its reach  100C , and the 2080 with 150-160W its around 90C hotspot.  

For the 870 barebones theres a much more room to upgrade with  T shaped 6 pipe , and the VC heatsink, not to mention the TM's cpu heatsink with 2 grille's.

Would be interesting to know what part of the vBios needs to be modded in order to use that amount of memory. Id really like to try something like that on an old GTX 980

What's great is there's no vBios modding required, you just need to change some of the strap resistors on the card to allow for more memory or memory of different brands.

Do you know if there are instability issues? My T1000 would be a bit more useful with 8GB vram 🤔

Interesting, thought this wasn't a thing anymore since often cards have different vBios versions for different amounts of memory. Are there any sources for how to place the resistors for specific memory sizes like for a 980M or 1070M(ex. the MSI version)

If i heard it right , from the 10xx series the vbios at starting always count the amount of vram,  so basicly if  its the same brand and adress then its automaticly detect the amount of vram.
