What's your favorite game(s)?

I have a soft spot for Kirby Air Ride, and realistically, any Kirby games. Who doesn't love a cute squishy pink ball who is wholesome and wants cakey?

In terms of other games, Pitfall: The Lost Expedition is a guilty pleasure; Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis, while being an MMO, is also on that list; I'm a sucker for rhythm games so I could go into what I like and dislike in a whole different thread on that.

If we are talking old school....then Mechwarrior 2 is my choice. I first bought this as DOS version then few months later Windows95 version was released.

I played through 24hrs straight then walked outside and puked from motion sickness (the mech cockpit bounces ingame) Good old days:classic_rolleyes:

Did you see this trailer from a couple days ago?  I think the "mouthful mode" is pretty hilarious.

It's absolutely beautiful, and silly, and also adorable. Basically, Kirby in a nutshell, which is all I wanted.

If you're not a stickler for hardware itself Amiga Forever (or just UAE) and C64 Forever are... "good enough".

I had a friend that had an A1000. I didn't get one until the A500 launched. City I lived in at the time had a local Amiga specific store, I spent so much time there. I had a lot of fun modding it. There were so many from the Fat Agnus so you could run games and demos in PAL mode among other benefits. The final mod I did was putting a 16MHz 68000 in there and hooking up a switch to go from 7Mhz to 14Mhz. It never worked perfectly though as memory freq was still 7Mhz. It had a near negligible impact and caused instability so I basically ripped it back out. Those were the days! I don't think we'll ever be able to replicate that time again, hot rod PC building these days just isn't as fun, though it's probably just me wanting to spend more time just playing games once I have something "good enough".

We should create a separate retro computing thread/section though not sure it'll get enough activity lol.

I should try that UAE. I think last time I tried it didn't work,  I'd forgotten about it.

My father didn't want to wait for delivery and drove 2600km (1620miles) to pick up a zorro II card and a 512k memory expansion from an A500 (turn it upside down it fit the A1000).

Wow...memories. Saw my first mandelbrot set on amiga at the local users group....where we used to meet IRL :classic_ohmy:

I saved up for an Amiga 500  for in high school. I was lucky to get the color display for Xmas. No way I could ever afford a 1000 but I wanted an Amiga so bad so when I got one I was stoked. It was actually the first platform I learned 68x asm on so many moons ago. My favorite game (don't laugh 😄) was SSI's "Hero of the Lance" since I was a huge Dragonlance fan.

I absolutely loved it in every way, shape and form. A lot of coding principles I learned moved easily right over to the Mac.

I must have read Chronicles and Legends at least 10x. I loved the stand alone novels too including Legend of Huma. We even picked up the cookbook and made several of the recipes from the novels. To this day I still can barely stomach Tasslehoff anything 😜

My favorite campaign settings are still Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms. SSI's Pool of Radiance was fantastic and I spent a lot of $$$ playing AOL's online NWN back in the day.

Defender of the Crown is a top 5 game too. I originally played it on the C64 (which by your avatar inscription you know ALL about 😁) but the Amiga version (and that opening soundtrack) was legendary.

Hero of the Lance was great! The Goldbox games are still good as well, have to use gold box companion these days though as the usability is pretty rough vs modern design. Come to think of it, a modern revival of the Gold Box games would be pretty cool, but I guess we kind of already have those with the infinity engine style games and games like Solasta.

I'm 39 (will probably keep saying this next year too, lol) and if I think of the first ever games I played, I can still completely vividly hear the theme of Jack The Nipper 2 on Commodore 128. There are a handful other games too that I played for many many hours but I can't remember their names.

lol good times. Man so many 2600 games were classics. Activision used to kill it on that platform.  My fondest memories was playing and creating games on the hand-me-down TRS-80 Model I w/Expansion Interface (and then later TRS-80 Model III) that I had (I was 11 at the time..). I was a huge gamer on 2600.. but Midway Campaign by Avalon Hill (review) changed the way I thought about games. Plus it was written in BASIC so I could see how it worked and learn..

Finally something for me in the gaming world. I'm not a gamer but enjoyed the Max Payne saga. One of the few games I played in the older days. I really hope this will become a reality.

Yeah just saw that about Max Payne, just replayed MP2 late last year, one of the few noir videogames and really great. I just hope they don't add in a bunch of activism stuff and just stick to modernizing the graphics and controls. I hope they even keep the original voice actors. They will probably feel the need to make the levels larger too to keep up with how large most game worlds are since then and what people expect for their dollar now, which wouldn't be a bad thing. It was a pain to get xpadder working on it. Didn't care for MP3, never played MP1.
