...it's all in the title.

I've recently watched The Shawshank Redemption, for the n-th time. Just discovered the other day my wife never saw it before, so obviously I immediately jumped at the opportunity to re-watch it :classic_biggrin:

Jack Reacher.  Decent, but not amazing.

In a theater?  No Time to Die.  Still not entirely sure about it, beyond it's better than Quantum of Solace and not as good as Casino Royale.  I'm unsure beyond that primarily due to being exhausted when I saw it.  Too much action in real life to pay full attention to the action film!

...I'm still mad.

I'm unsure why I even bothered to watch it in the first place.... probably the only James Bond movie I could survive through since Craig became the next Bond was Casino Royale, after that the whole thing was just getting worse and worse IMO.

2 days ago, The boat that rocked (AKA Pirate radio), yesterday: Almost Famous, today I think I will watch High Fidelity. I'm on a 70s rock phase right now, well not really a phase per se, I love Rock and Metal :D, but these last few years I've been finding myself just loving old Rock and Roll and the vibes from those times. man that period had soul.

Don't Look Up.  Hilariously close to reality.  There's even a phone number that comes on screen as part of a 'commercial' and at 2am I thought, 'why not' and dialed it and it's an extension of the movie!  It goes on for over 10 minutes before having a realistic 'accidental' disconnect while on hold that we're all familiar with--probably the most impressive phone prank I've ever heard--254-63-COMET.  To enjoy to the fullest, watch the movie, pause on the number when it comes up in the movie, dial the number and enjoy being a part of the movie, and then after it hangs up, continue to watch--super fun!

Edit!  And so, apparently the phone number in the version I just saw is new as there was a different one before that is now disconnected.  Apparently this new one was just made a month ago (or released a month ago as the voice actors would have only posted after they were done working on it):

https://www.linkedin.com/posts/melaniethomasacm_please-enjoy-these-commercial-parody-hotline-activity-6886444733565140992-1op7

Edit 2!

OMG! I found another one!  There's a scene where the phone number 904-ORLEANS is on a sign at a political rally.  So if you call it, it's the 'President' telling you not to look up.  hahaha!  I wonder if this will become a trend in movies--phone number easter eggs like this...

Edit 3!

So the full message on that sign is 'TEXT DLU TO 904-ORLEANS', so I just did that and it replied 'Make the call.  Listen carefully.'  😆

Edit 4

Apparently this movie is FULL of easter eggs.  The QR code in the scenes right after the text message one takes you to a youtube video:

Pirate radio!  I remember seeing the trailers for that, looks like it got a decent reception, added it to my watch list.

I liked Craig as Bond, but as with any of the Bond actors, they're limited by the writing, which can vary significantly.  Quantum of Solace in particular suffered there; I guess a writer's strike affects writing quality after all.  Even Connery could deliver an underwhelming film when the writing was bad enough; Diamonds Are Forever is perhaps my least favorite Bond film despite having Connery, as the writing and supporting cast are just bad.  Overall though, I like Craig's grittier, tougher take, and it's a huge improvement over the Brosnan era.

Most recently, A Night at the Roxbury.  Pretty meh.  I've seen worse, and it might be my new favorite Will Ferrell movie (I'm not a fan, so the bar was pretty low), but SNL should have just stuck with Wayne's World and maybe Wayne's World 2 and called it a day.

Steve Ballmer and Bill Gates did much better in their 40-second version:

My wife and I watched the new Dune on BluRay last weekend, and REALLY liked it. I read the book as teenager, and liked it, but not a die-hard fan, just one of many books I read at the time. This movie, though, is close to perfect!

We gave it 9 stars on IMDB. As a frame of reference, we've only given 10 stars to less than a dozen movies over the years (Shawshank, Gladiator, LOTR 1&3, Titanic, Matrix, Godfather, Lawrence of Arabia, and such).

Great to hear something like this.  The original epic was hard to top on the screen (I never read the book), so it will be good to see some justice to the book on the screen that's just as enjoyable.

The King's Man (2021); I thought it was better than the previous two films by far. I doubt I would re-watch the other films, but I am actually looking forward to watching this film a second time.

I watched this a couple of days ago and I found it better than the first two in terms of character development, also by addressing more the drama. Don't get me wrong, Kingsman 1 and 2 are great, but this one felt more grounded and less eccentric (Like Sir Elton John roundhouse kicking a thug) or goofy.

Also saw King's Man (2021) the other day. Can't say it was as great as to warrant watching it again, but good enough to watch once at least. I also think it was better than the first too.

Another movie finished today was CODA (2021). I think it was quite good, and surprisingly even funny at times. Could definitely recommend this one.

We watched, "Don't Look Up" on Netflix a few nights ago. Sad and funny at the same time. Lots of cameos. We liked it.

I saw the first two Kingsmen movies and enjoyed them. I didn't love them nor would I rewatch them but I definitely did enjoy them. I'll definitely check out The King's Man next.

Just re-watched the Back to the Future trilogy; I watched the first one in October of 2015, and the second and third in 2016, so it had been a few years.  They stand the test of time!  I'd put the first and second about equal and the third one half a step down, but there are enough running themes throughout the films that it's worth watching them as a trilogy in close succession.  I'm sure I'll watch them again in a few years.

Good to hear about the King's Man.  I saw the first one and it was not bad, but not so compelling as to make it a point of watching the second or third.
