thanks bro.

I just got my car rental settlement. wasn't what I expected but its still nice being paid for hassle.

Im going to order a 1400 dollar chromebook like the masses. lol, that'll be the day. Im eyeing www.memoryexpress.com system builder. might buy a package deal for a 4060 or 3060ti or if the price is right a A770 setup, I want a A770 but I think the benefit of DLSS and FG with the 4060 mighy justify a few bucks. very excited.

Well a770 has xess which is very close to dlss. And please don't buy that joke of the card, the 4060. Sell one of the turdbooks and get at least a 4070, with the new versions coming out the normal 4070 will get cheaper, hopefully. Even better sell 2 turdbooks from your collection  and get a 4070ti super or maybe a used 4080 😃

yup, word on the grapevine is that nvidia will actualy LOWER THE OFFICIAL MSRP for the 4070, with the 4070 Ti and 4080 running into EOL once their Super counterparts are released. the 4070 will be the only one continued alongside the super model, and that at a cheaper price.

so bro @ryan wait until the super cards are released and supply has stabilized a bit, then be on the lookout for updated new pricing and/or used pricing 🙂

I love what Intel is doing but for a primary/initial system I'd recommend Nvidia. Battle tested, mature and they are just the complete package. Definitely wait for the Super cards to hit the market but in the interim, you can build out the core system and have it ready to go when you settle on a GPU.

And definitely do NOT get a 4060. Like @cylix recommended, 4070 minimum and wait at least a month (Circa mid February) to pull the trigger on a GPU once the Super dust settles.

I was checking the prices on www.memoryexpress.com and they are pretty steep on their configurator. You would still be better served building out on your own, but I get the appeal of just picking your components and a shiny new PC shows up tested and ready to go. 🙂

haha BRO. I will most likely sell or dare i say take my laptop back and just get a 4070 but with the supers coming out soon it seems like a good idea too get a 3060ti as a start then just sell it off at a loss. Im searching right now for components and memoryexpress isn't too bad just no sales. all of their prices are msrp. I was just thinking it would save a headache knowing it just works vs getting a faulty component. risk is low but still I dont have much kicking around.

I was thinking of just getting a 4090 and hanging on to it for a few years and then just do an upgrade in 2026 when more games are out that need the power, but im sure by then 8k gaming will be in swing. im still leaning into a A770 and getting a desk with a OLED monitor/tv. would be more enjoyable visually and I can afford it if I take back my VIVOBOOK.

basically options are

2) no gpu best setup

3) A770 and i7 or used i9 with oled monitor

4) 3060ti and i9 sell and buy a 4090

5) save

I don't see 8K gaming will be a thing for now or near future. 4090's will be pushed down to 1440P gaming and Nvidia will push out new cards for 4K with the 5090. You don't kill your milking cow. Going down from 8K to 4K is something Nvidia wouldn't like. They don't want that you can keep your card until it's EOL with 4K gaming. Being pushed down from 4K to 1440P would help more on upselling new cards.

Nice sum up from arstechnica.

2023 was the year that GPUs stood still

A new GPU generation did very little to change the speed you get for your money.

ok. its settled. A770 + used i9. its funny how you guys go into depth on ram and motherboards ect, in the laptop space thats basically non exisitant these days, you don't pick your motherboard or PSU ect heck even cpus are hard wired along with dying mxm. Im nervous that i'll get it and It wont be as fast as I expect, but when I watch your videos and videos on youtube its exciting seeing framerates around 200fps at 4k ultra on some titles I play, a 4090-4070 can be such a big jump from the 3060 its actaully hard to believe its only been 3 years

Buy whatever float your boat. But avoid any of the gaming-books. A desktop build can in most instances being upgraded.

PS. €40 is equal to $43.80 USD. New PC builds doesn't need to cost a fortune.

if thats true I might just be able to swing and hit a desktop today and used my laptop as a weapon of destruction via throwing or smacking. or as @cylix STATED A FOOTSTOOL.

So where should I be buying these desktop parts, I can shop around but i find that frustrating, is newegg any good these days. also mr fox do you have any games you would like to benchmark?

@Mr. Fox should I take back my oled laptop, can I really benefit off the extra 610? everything desktop related seems like a rich mans game

Yes, NewEgg and Amazon are the most popular options unless you live near a Microcenter. If you're not shooting for high end overclocker-focus parts you can also get some decent deals at Best Buy, but they cater more to mid-range and low-end gamers. You can find decent mobo and CPU bundles.

You're asking the wrong person about what to do with the laptop. I hate all of them universally and would recommend that nobody buy one unless they spend $500 or less and they absolutely must have a mobile computing option because of constant travel. So, yes... I would take it back and get a refund if you can. Even if it meant paying a 10% restocking fee or similar penalty. There is not a laptop made anywhere that I find interesting, desirable or compelling.

I agree with you guys 99 percent of the time, but having a laptop can be a good thing as you can pick it up and surf on the bed or couch and be more comfortable than at a desk its nice for trips even if you do it only once or twice a year. I personally like the laptop because of two things, temps and OLED panel. I have never had an oled laptop and watching 4k movies and gaming are incredible looking it really grabs your attention and screams this is the future. but I also like the idea of a powerhouse desktop with a oled display that is buttery smooth for when i want to game and is upgradeable. but after searching today it still looks like although desktops are better in the long run, so similar perforamnce laptops are cheaper, they just are especially refurbished but i will never game on my laptop and i already have 3 good-great laptops all with different uses. I think getting a nuc and oled tv might serve me better based on my usage or heck even just buying a xbox series x for gaming and a decent nuc. Im just having trouble pulling the trigger. im a died hard laptop fan unlike many here but I cant help but wonder if or when i get a desktop ill convert. its like a book you hear its good you buyh it and never read it. good book no doubt but the content doesnt grab you enough to at least read a part of it. papusan might be right about maybe just getting an el cheapo desktop and upgrade slowly while learning.

If I do decide on just getting a NUC or perhaps a prebuilt thats available to buy in canada in say the 900 mark...ill buy it this second. I just dont like buyers remorse, buying something then realizing you dont use or need it. do you think what jaybee said wait is a good idea? im thinking about so many things i feel overwhelmed, you also mentioned buying used sometimes theres a steal with decent parts for a great price on facebook. at anyrate this is going to take a great deal.

sir @Mr. Fox I managed to create a i5 build thats decent for 860 that does not include gpu, i was thinking of just buying a A770 off new egg and getting a mid range desktop. is the i5 13700k any good, actually i think you answered that you said its fine. i can always upgrade later on.

looks like for 4k gaming its either get a xbox series x or get a 2000 buck desktop

I've never owned a 13700K, but I've never heard anything bad about one. It should be fantastic for gaming and from what I understand they overclock well.

If you buy a motherboard that has HDMI/DP for the Intel iGPU you could always build it and use it with the integrated graphics while you decide what GPU to buy. It would be fully functional and you could get the CPU and RAM overclock tuned to your liking.

The beauty of a desktop (as long as you do not buy a proprietary prebuilt mess with severe physical limitations) is a massive amount of flexibility to do things in stages, make changes as often as you wish and upgrade as finances permit, while still having a fully functional system that can also be fun to play with.

Here is some Intel iGPU silly gaming results (for giggles). 100+ FPS in CS2. 🤣 Nothing great by any stretch of the imagination, but also not a bad as one would expect based on horrible older iGPU gaming.

image.png

Alternatively... you could also get a less expensive GPU to use for a little while. A750, RX 580, 5500 XT, 1660, 1060, etc.... all super cheap and decent 1080p gaming with modest settings are possible while you save money for a killer GPU like a 4080 Super or 4090. You might even be able to snag one of those used locally on Craiglist or Offer Up for like $100-125. When you get the GPU you want, you could resell the cheap GPU and probably easily recover 100% of what you spent on it, maybe even a small profit. There will always be a demand for cheap video cards as long as you can get drivers for them.

That case is to small, thats a micro atx case and the board will not fit. Also try and get a 1TB drive, like Kingston kc3000, very good drive and sometimes they got a big discount.

Well, the pc will be for gaming right? So I5 for the start its plenty, get a 13 series if its cheaper, even a 12th is enough for gaming and try and get an 4070, thats the most important component for gaming.

@ryan i get the feeling ure rushing things a bit. if a solid setup is just out of your budget range right now then just wait a few weeks until u hit ur budget target. no sense in rush buying subpar components now and insta-regretting it down the line... do it right first time 🙂

@ryan You need memory and a CPU cooler, too. Are you stuck on MemoryExpress. You might get better deals at NewEgg or Amazon.

Have you checked Facepoot Marketplace, OfferUp, local pawnshops, etc? Sometimes you can find good deals on good used parts. People upgrade, lose jobs, have substance abuse issues, etc and you can get great buys on things and save hundreds of dollars. When you are open to mid-range parts, the deals are better and easier to find because the less expensive parts are more commonly purchased by gamers.

As always, you can get input from us if you find a good deal. If you want it, I would give you my cell number so you could text me to ask if you find something.

@ryan I have some parts I could

pass on for free if you need them. PSU, some Intel 660P Gen3 512GB m.2 nvme drives, even some cases if you want to cover the shipping lol.

I’d shop the hardest on CPU/GPU/Ram/Motherboard though.

Me and my wife are in the process of buying our first house, and I have a closet full of clutter.
