Yes.  I don't think that Dell uses the same display cable between 1080p and 4K, so the easiest way is probably to swap the display assemblies (the entire top part of the laptop containing the display, display cable, webcam, etc.).

See:

https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/precision-17-7760-laptop/precision_7760_sm/removing-the-display-assembly?guid=guid-ac654c1c-830a-46f7-9a27-1f1a4fbb6cbb&lang=en-us

The directions request that you remove a large number of components including the system board.  I don't think that this should be necessary, if you can just get to the hinge screws (pictured in the link) and pull the antenna cable out.  (There might not even be an antenna cable if you don't have WWAN?)  I watched a tech do it on my Precision 7770 and he just had to remove the bottom panel and the heatsink.  He was done in 15 minutes.

If you do have to remove the system board, then just swapping the system boards between the two systems would be faster.  (You cannot replace the CPU by itself, it is soldered onto the system board.)

Thank you for the advice.

Forgot to ask one more things. Whilst playing around with the insides of my 7760 i ended up losing one of the base cover screws. Do you perhaps know what the specs are for these screws? In the service manual it only lists them as captive screws. Evidently not very captive after all.

Just noticed that NVIDIA Dynamic Boost 2.0 is showing disabled in BIOS 1.15.2.  I remember taking note that it was enabled with BIOS 1.8.x.  Is anyone else seeing this?

I have today 1.16.0. Device was really OK before with older BIOS version like you can when see reading previous messages about the same case.

Device was hidden when I started to check. I have not even noticed it's broken again. Thanks @Aaron44126.

I Uninstalled Nvidia driver with DDU and reinstalled latest same driver back:

517.40-quadro-rtx-desktop-notebook-win10-win11-64bit-international-dch-whql

Now it's visible in Device Manager.

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

Driver Date 23 May 2022

Driver Version is 31.0.15.1623

Dell BIOS updates are quality work. Waiting 1.17.0 some day with new features.

I also noticed the code 31 error in device manager as well for Nvidia Platform Controllers and Framework recently with BIOS 1.16.

Poking through the BIOS I noticed the Intel Turbo Boost Max 3.0 has a blurb that when enabled will disable Nvidia Dynamic Boost 2.0.

May be related as others with the same code 31 error also see DB 2.0 disabled. I tried disabling to test and Windows wouldn't boot.

I couldn't be bothered to research further as my CAD work is single thread bottlenecked rather than GPU so I like the TBMT 3.0...

Hi,

About NVIDIA Platform Controllers and Framework problem.

I have created ticket to Dell help desk. After 12 rounds of exchange emails and installing same latest Nvidia drivers again

finally they ask me this.

Thank you for sharing the details. Could you confirm the functionality issue facing while operating system due to this driver to assist you better?

What  would you answer to help desk, who do not know at all what are these and why BIOS update break the device.

Is it possible to replace the 1080p panel with the 4k panel that was an option? Mine has the xeon w-11955m and nvidia rtx 5000. If so does anyone have a part number? Thanks.

[edit] 7760 model.

Yes, but you will likely need to replace the display cable in addition to the display panel.

I am getting a shipment of 3 x 4TB TeamGroup MP34 gumsticks this Monday.  Probably the easiest thing to do is just make a 12TB stripe with them using Windows Storage Spaces, so that's my plan.  The 970 EVO 2TBs that are in there now have a nice TBW endurance of 1.2 PB, and these drives scale with that linearly to 2.4 PB - which, at $349 apiece from various places, is a bit cheaper than what I paid for those drives in the first place.

BIOS update 1.17.1.

https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=1DXGW

- Fixed the issue where you cannot complete a Linux boot with an SD card.
- Fixed the issue where Reboot Bypass does not work after rebooting the system. This issue occurs when you set Password Bypass from Disable to Reboot Bypass in the BIOS setup menu and install Dell Command Monitor (DCM) version 10.7.0.232.
- Fixed the issue where the network disconnects when the system is connected to the RJ45 dongle through USB type-C port.
- Fixed the issue where the key stops working when you press two keys together continuously. This issue occurs when the Dell KB522 keyboard is connected to the USB Type-A port.

New BIOS 1.17.1 is installed and same NVIDIA Platform Controllers and Framework error is visible like before.

Same situation with all of you?

These fixed lines are the mostly the same for all models, which got BIOS update 23 November 2022 like Latitude 7330 and 7530.

Who would use USB type-C RJ45 dongle when you have real LAN port in the device? Latitudes are different case.

You can do (at least) 2.5 Gbps Ethernet over USB-C.

While attempting to upgrade the GPU, I was stalled by an over-tightened screw on the heatsink that has now completely stripped, and some free scratches on the heatsink as well as some bent fins (thanks, previous technician).

I am going to ask Dell to assist with a heatsink replacement; hopefully the new technician has a stripped-screw extractor.

Incidentally, it appears the 'new' GPU I received is actually a refurbished unit unlike my past few GPU purchases from Dell, which were new; there is some discolouration on one of the capacitors (I presume that's what the grey squares are), some left over thermal paste, and a few fingerprint marks. Hope it actually works...

By sheer coincidence, a technician should be visiting me for the exact same reason - to replace the heat sink assembly.  About a week ago, one of the fans started to make a loud, annoying buzzing sound, to the point that it is annoying to have what is essentially my development server turned on.  I actually repasted it a few days ago to try and clean out the fans, but that didn't solve the issue (and my repaste job actually resulted in a 200 point loss on Cinebench R23).

All the diagnostics passed with flying colors, but playing some video of the buzzing sound and seeing the two CPU fan failures in the BIOS log made it a very quick and easy Tech Support call.

Edit: Getting a technician was a bit delayed for the holiday season, but the results are good and my 7760 isn't shaking the desk anymore (likely some minor imbalance in the fan that developed).  Dell ProSupport is batting pretty much 100% for me.

Hi all,

I am new here, so I may not be posting in the correct thread or place, so sorry for that.

 I have recently brought a DELL Precision 7560 (i7-11850H, 32GB RAM, FHD 15.6", RTX A4000 8GB, 512GB & 256GB Nvme PCIe Gen3).

I power up the new laptop and I can go to Windows 11 setup, then I shutdown.

I then open up the laptop and proceed to upgrade my RAM (2 X 16GB PC4 3200MHz Samsung) to 2 X 32GB GSkill Ripjaws DDR4 2666MHz. Try to boot up but cannot post (2 amber and 4 white).

I swap back the RAM to the original Samsung 2 x 16GB DDR4 3200MHz, then laptop also cannot post.

Before I swap RAM, I disconnect the battery and remove it, also making sure I do not have static electricity with me.

DELL has since replaced the motherboard with another motherboard, still problem persist (2 amber, 4 white), change new RAM from DELL, also same issue.

funny thing is I tested the RAMs 2 X 16GB DDR4 3200MHz Samsung and 2 X 32GB DDR4 2666MHz Ripjaws on my old ThinkPad T480, the RAM has no issue and I can boot up with T480!

Not sure what is happening!

DELL technician will be coming again with another new pair of RAM next week but I think DELL maybe trying to fix it wrong as it's not RAM that is the issue, even the original RAM (2 X 16GB DDR4 3200MHz Samsung that works before I swap it out and tested to work on my T480) is not working now even a new motherboard replacement!

Any advice may be great from the community here!

Thanks.

This is crazy.  That error code is indeed for a RAM issue.....

Was your new motherboard tested with the original RAM or the Ripjaws first?  Wondering if perhaps the same issue was created a second time, somehow it just doesn't like the Ripjaws and they cause some kind of permanent failure.  In general, I recommend "mainstream" memory for these systems (Samsung, Kingston, Crucial, etc.) because it would not be the first time that "enthusiast" memory (Corsair, G.Skill, etc.) has caused a problem, though I have never heard of something like this where there was a "permanent" issue.

.....If you first tried the new motherboard with the original RAM and it was still broken, then clearly there is some other problem in the system.  Odd because replacing the motherboard actually replaces most of the components that could have gone bad.  ...Maybe the GPU?  I am at a loss.

In any case, since it is new and under warranty, if Dell can't get it fixed promptly then just tell them that you want a full system replacement.

I've gotten my hands on an RTX 3080 for S$560. Nice, time for 16 GB (again).

You caught my interest haha, very nice deal, I wish I could get a 3080 for that price too..

Does anyone have the 3466 ram in their 7560 or 7760? I'm wondering what latencies those kits run at. Thanks.

I have as 7760 I use with at two locations.  One with WDC19DC and the other with WD22TB4.

On both, one of the two displays randomly goes black for a second and comes back.  It is usually the right one in both setups (maybe coincidence).  I have tried DP to DP, USB C to DP and HDMI.

I have the latest Dell Nvidia Drivers and Bios is 1.19.  Latest firmware on both docks.  This has been happening for a while with previous bios.

Both setups I also use the Power Brick with along with the dock.

Windows Power Manager is set to Best Performance.  Dell is set to Optimized.

Any ideas?
