Finally the new RTX MXM cards will work in our laptops!

I don't have the cable, but I might need a link to purchase it. I read the discussion and your PDF. I asked if it would work on a 170km because I wanted to get the "Origin" variant soon and make sure it would work both with and without a modified BIOS. Are there any updates on your research? What exactly are you missing to complete the puzzle?

The cable is finished. It's done. Nothing to complete. The only thing I found weird is the RTX 4080 and 4090 MXM from X-VSION. The VBIOS is kinda wacky, the eDP is disabled in the VBIOS but works once you apply override EDID data to windows. You need to get the ZRT version of these cards actually.

Meanwhile RTX 4050, 4060, 4070 from X-VSION are working great, the eDP is enabled in the VBIOS.

Great! For the eBay link, do I have to write to you privately, right? I read that these RTX 4xxx mxm models take a maximum of 150/165W, is that true? And I also read that the mxm in these laptops delivers a maximum of 120W, is that a problem? Is there or do I need a way to increase the wattage? Based on your tests, is it necessary or are they just fine?

Do you think these cards, with or without the backlight modification, could work? Will you test them? Do you have any information on them?

https://www.aetina.com/products-detail.php?i=694

https://www.aetina.com/products-list.php?t=23

It's on eBay the listing.

I will never test them because it's expensive and the x-bracket mounting for the heatsink doesn't make sense for MXM-B.... But yes, they need the backlight mod because AETINA, XVSION and ZRT will never make the pin 23, 25 and 27 enabled again.

Also, for the X170, you need to modify your heatsink because of the x-bracket offset. I modified the chassis of my P775TM so I can make the RTX 4080 fit in without trimming too much the main heatsink.

And yes my laptop could pull 155W easily from the MXM slot. The Clevo ones can do max 200W on the MXM slot.

Please try to purchase a card from ZRT like the RTX 4080M or the RTX 4090M, once you get them, it'll be good to obtain their VBIOS as well because... only the X-VSION 4080 and 4090 have bad a VBIOS for the display tables. If I can flash ZRT VBIOS on the X-VSION cards, then they're fixed for the display tables.

Can the MXM slot draw almost 200W? What exactly is the auxiliary connector for? In the discussion, it seems to me that you limited the 4090 to 120W, to contain the heat? Is adapting a heatsink from a 3080 to a 4090 a complex job? On eBay I only found the cables for the screen, not the one I saw in the PDF. Can you send me the eBay link? So if I were to buy one, I should aim for X Vision for the 50/60/70 and ZRT for the 80/90. I'm not very up to date on MXM news, but do you think there will be new cards from ZRT and X Vision in the future?

The power cable is for GPU that can do 250W I think. On the datasheet of the X170, it says 20V and 10A for the MXM slot, which is 200W. Yes the 4090 I limited it because of the OEM heatsink I had, now I don't need to limit it because of the custom heatsink.

Modifying heatsinks by hand, it's hard because your heatsink is adapted for non-standard MXM format Clevo cards.

It's on eBay the listing. Search: MXM flex cable backlight mod for eDP

Okay, I found the ad. The €45 shipping fee doesn't exactly excite me (I'm in Italy), but it's a modification worth making in the future. It's an excellent product.

As for modifying the heatsink, if I had to change the board, how should I do it? File off the extra parts? Are there any tutorials for the various Clevos somewhere?

No. There are 2 listings. One for EUROPE and one for Worldwide. Pick the European one (cheapest for you)

There are no videos, there are no information about modding heatsinks. No 3d files, nothing. It's on your own, like I did with the Clevo P570WM heatsink.

Yes, that's fine, but I meant more like, what's the optimal approach to follow to cool it well? Is it enough to make contact with the heatsink between the main core and the memory? Or do I need to know something else?

Enough pressure for the GPU and enough pressure for the CPU because you have a shared heatsink between CPU and GPU, that's why this laptop is complicated in terms of modding the heatsink.

@SuperMGJust saw that XVSION has made an RTX 3050 6gb MXM a card. Wonder if it will work on my zbook 15 g2-atleast in hybrid mode?(I think the eDP is on C in the 15 g2). As I've heard, only up to turing cards would work. Will there at least be a modified vbios for a DP_C output?

image.thumb.png.e8d2f60bb3c6f600a68425a45113c0da.png

This card looks cursed, HDMI on DP_A and DP_B... I don't think there will be any VBIOS at this point... No DP or eDP on C...

Aetina has some cards that can do DP on all ports, like the Ada 2000?

X-VSION told me I need to pay them 10k for a "new project"? They thought I need a new design, a new PCB? I just need an updated 2MB firmware file for the 4090...

Absolutely no way I'm gonna pay 1500$ for an rtx 4060 level gpu. Well won't the 3050 6gb (the one i was talking about earlier) work on optimus at least, even with the backlight mod?

Speaking of which I was asking about the 50 series and they said that it would be manufactured within 6 months.

Pressione sufficiente per la GPU e pressione sufficiente per la CPU perché c'è un dissipatore di calore condiviso tra CPU e GPU, ecco perché questo laptop è complicato in termini di modifica del dissipatore di calore.

So you're telling me that I won't be able to use these cards on a Clevo x170km because the heatsink that sits on the GPU is too different in shape? That's not good news.

Then wait, and hope they release a full DP/DP/DP/eDP VBIOS.  Maybe tell them to use that configuration?

The GPU itself is compatible but the heatsink isn't. Heatsink is the biggest problem.

Not sure, they might ask 10k for it as well lol😂. Anyways will the card work on switchable graphics mode?

Yes it'll work but you'll lose performance. 4070 works on my Dell Precision 7720 in both SG and eDP mode with the flex FPC cable.

La GPU in sé è compatibile, ma il dissipatore non lo è. Il dissipatore è il problema più grande.

I've seen some pictures of the heatsink online. The problem should be that a RAM module that's left out would work if I added a copper foil + thermal pad where it's missing, which connects to the heatsink. Would the heat be distributed?

The problem isn't that. It's the x-bracket position for the screws. How will you screw in your 4090? There's like 0.6cm and 1cm (by memory) of offset in X and Y axis.

It's very easy to add 1mm thick copper plate with some 1-2mm very adhesive thermal pads.

Ah, the problem is precisely the screw locations, but the problem is the screws that hold it to the frame or the heatsink? That's a big problem then.

Ah, il problema è proprio la posizione delle viti, ma il problema sono le viti che la fissano al telaio o al dissipatore? Allora è un bel problema.

I looked better, the problem should be those on the frame, an adapter would be needed, perhaps a sheet underneath, so you screw the card to the sheet and then the sheet to the frame (I'm going through some images, I don't have my PC with me, I might be talking nonsense)
