What monitor(s) are you currently using, and why?

I'm making this thread to discuss what monitor you might be using and why you picked it, whether it be productivity, gaming, Discord, or some doomscrolling on various social media. I'll go ahead and start with mine.

 

I currently am using an Asus VG27AQ I got for about 285€, and a few things made me choose it. Being a rhythm game player, my thing is high refresh rate, low latency, and also readability; this was an easy choice to go with, as I left all of the monitors I owned prior to moving across the Atlantic. I also got biased rather quickly towards 1440p after using my Maingear Vector Pro for some time; it was honestly nice to have that pixel density.

Right now I'm using my Alienware aw3821dw. I got a "good deal" on it, but it was still pretty expensive (most of the cost was offset by selling my old AW3420DW).  I really like the increased real-estate and faster refresh rate. Colors look good as well.  I'd love to look at the new OLED gaming monitors, but I continue to worry about burn in with them.

Last month I swapped out my 4K/120 Hz Acer for the 1440p/165 Hz MSI MAG 274QRF-QD. Despite the marginal increase in refresh rate, the MSI feels significantly smoother and more responsive. I really like that it has a Type-C input with DisplayPort-Alt mode that allows for the full refresh rate to be utilized along with G-Sync. That's how I have my Razer laptop connected so I can use the full-size DisplayPort input with my desktop. MSI also released a firmware update that included a dedicated sRGB mode.

meh i cant notice anything past 60hz...120hz smooth 165hz meh wont do it.....i bought a msi 32in 1080p 165hz screen.....great colors smooth ect but i just dont think ima hop on the 144hz/165hz bandwagon..

Asus VG27AQL1A. Wanted a 27" higher refresh monitor to replace the throwaway $110 Asus 21.5" 1080p@75Hz monitor I bought as a stop gap once I knew I was working from home for the long haul.

 

Got it on sale for $299 last year, great monitor for that price. 1440p@144Hz. 170Hz in overlocking mode, but I leave that off 144 is fine. I have zero complaints. I was always skeptical that I'd notice a higher refresh rate, now that I've used one I'm a believer and I'm never going back to lower refresh.

 

I use a CalDigit USB-C dock with HDMI, USB and power delivery passthru for whichever laptop I happen to be using and DisplayPort for my desktop (+ the monitor's USB hub has my wired keyboard and mouse receiver)

Dell U2412M.  24", 1920x1200, 60 HZ, E-IPS (6-bit color, but IPS angles), matte.  $300 new in 2011.

 

I use it for everything, but mainly web surfing, gaming (primarily strategy), and software development.

 

Bought it because it's 16:10, matte, and had good image quality at a reasonable price, with fairly good response time to boot.  Also had a nice selection of input ports (DVI, DP, and VGA), so it worked natively with my old VGA laptop and then-new DVI video card.  Now I have a DVI-to-HDMI adapter connected along with DP and VGA.

 

Have kept it because literally nobody will make a 27" 16:10 laptop, and because it still works like it did when it was new.  I know that a 27" 2560x1440 with a moderately faster refresh rate and FreeSync would probably make sense, but for the past 6 years or so I've been thinking, "surely someone's going to come out with a 27" 16:10 two weeks after I buy a 27" 16:9", and no one ever does.  When they finally do, they can have my money.

 

Oh and also the tilt/swivel/height adjustments are nice.  Practically speaking I almost never use it in portrait mode, but Dell did a good job with their monitor stand, and they even included it with the monitor instead of charging $1000 for it.

I was seriously considering the Dell U2421E to get 16:10 and the 90W USB-C PD built in, but decided to get a higher refresh 1440p monitor with adaptive sync and the CalDigit dock ($80) instead as I already have an 87W USB-C adapter for my MacBook and the CalDigit has 100W passthru. In the end I'm glad I did as gaming on a higher refresh display (pixel density is also higher on 27" 1440p vs 24.1" 1200p) is definitely a better gaming experience and it's good enough for productivity (The MacBook even drives it at 120Hz over USB-C->HDMI through the dock, the LG Gram only 60Hz though). I'll give up the extra vertical to get a much better gaming experience. I do have 16:10 on both my laptops to compensate🙂.

Do you have any idea what the price it's going for right now? I'm actually in the middle of moving and aiming to get a secondary, but I'm unsure what pricing is, and I do need to find a secondary. Probably won't happen until June.

@Katjago for the g32c4 by msi its fast great colors response time ect and cheaper around 250...get mediocre reviews but in practice is amazing

I was thinking of doing the same thing of downsizing my 32" 4k 60hz to a 32" 144hhz+ 1440p display. Reviews show the MSI 32" version of the QD as one of the best not only for color reproduction but general performance.

 

I love my BenQ 32" 4k for its color reproduction but as a gaming display it is lacking and I'm starting to notice recently. Plus 1440p would really help to up the fps.

I wish they made a similar but less featured product that just combines USB-A and DP 1.4 and optionally power delivery into a single USB-C for use with gaming monitors.

I'm not aiming for a gaming secondary since it'd serve other purposes (namely for chat clients, OBS and the sort). Plus I don't know if you're talking in USD or EUR, since PC things in general here in Spain are a bit higher in cost.

I use three monitors, Acer CB271HU, Viotek GNV27DB, and Acer G247HL. I like having so much screen space for stuff, I usually have YouTube playing on the G247HL, but I sometimes use it for other stuffs. On my Viotek GNV27DB, I can be browsing Discord, managing files, browsing the web, gaming, using a VM, etc. On my Acer CB271HU, I might be consuming proper content due to the better color accuracy of the display, or doing something that I would do on my main display if my main display already has stuff open.

Ive been using the Xiaomi Mi ultrawide for a time and it really is a good Monitor for the money, really happy with it works really well with Gsync, no flicker! But im getting used with the size and I am really thinking of going wider to 49 and looking at the Odyssey Neo G9 but waiting for a really good price, but i am little concerned of the many problems it has, but apparently with latest firmware is better. Anyone using the Neo g9 on a daily basis and can tell a little how is it? Are the problems so big with this hardware?

i gave up on monitors as tvs have game now/ I have a x85j sony 4k/120hz tv/ its fast enough. Highly recommend this tv for use as a monitor

Rocking a HP ZR30w. Got it for the 10bits and 2560:1600 16:10 display. What makes it shine compared to other contemporary (similarly priced, since I got it second hand) 30" monsters is lack of OSD. Well that is a bit of a drawback but it more than compensates with the reduced input lag, again compared to other 30 inchers.

I am using two dell 24" ultrasharp monitors. I cannot remember the model numbers.  One is touchscreen and the other is not.  I have both calibrated for photo/video/graphic work and both look identical.  I love my setup for what I do.  I was looking at moving to the Samsung M8 32" and have the LG doublestack (whatever it's called) as a secondary but I think I am going to save the money and keep what I have.  My wife has an older HP 24" display she using for working from home.  It's a nice screen. I am painting the housing after Christmas to make it look nicer in her office instead of a black brick thats there now!.  My son has my old HP W2207(i think) monitor.  I purchased that after I sold my Apple cinema monitor.  It's image is AWESOME, and right up there with the Apple actually.  I wasn't expecting as good an image as I got from it.  Going from 27" to 22" was rough for awhile though.  Ha ha.

we are all entitled too our opinions but I think qled tvs as monitors are the way to go. 100 percent color gamut with sub 10ms response times as well as 4k 120hz it really can't be beat and with the fact you can lower resolution to 1440p and crop it having it as effectively a big 1440p monitor. also if you want to swap to ultra wide you can do that also. its by far the most versatile.

I like two monitors instead of one widescreen as I like the separation of the two better than just a window on one section of the widescreen.  These curved behemoths are fugly as well.

Two Dells P2423 + single Dell SB522A Soundbar. My requirements were not complicated - 16:10 WUXGA display, dedicated soundbar and no PWM. First choice was HP Z24n G3, but they were out of stock for months. In meantime, I got an info about new 16:10 WUXGA display from Dell. It turned out to be really nice for my eyes and it was actually cheaper with 5Y warranty, than HP with 3Y.
