Eurocom told me that there is only one heatsink for all models. They also told me that the MUX may have been disabled after the manual was created. I am still hoping the chip is present on the system board and maybe a future bios update will fix it.

They gave me a Control Center version 3.70 on a thumb drive with the rest of the Windows 10 drivers so I will try it.

So with the e-cores enabled any undervolt seems to be causing an immediate crash. Does Core/Pcache/Ecache need to be adjusted in unison? Or is there some other trick I am missing. I know you mentioned Load Line Calibration before as well, I have not looked into that.

12900kcbr23eandpcores.JPG

Undervolt is applied universally but if you have poor e-cores and good p-cores they can bring you down in many ways including your uv. Ideally you should be able   to turn off e-cores and then P-cores get all the cache and lower temps overall to boot and your P-cores should have more headroom for the thermal constraints but if it is running hotter/slower with them disabled sounds like a BIOS update will be needed down the road. It is a new system so I am sure some BIOS revisions are in its future.

Do you have access to AC/DC LLs? With the uv it may be drooping a bit to much for the e-cores enabled or this is just early bugs that need to be worked out.

ill be making the order today for my lady's machine at PCS. unfortunately their customer rep wasnt very helpful or knowledgeable (stating that the system supports XMP profiles but does not support JEDEC....like... wat?! 😂) also zero flexibility for getting a barebone from them.

in any case, they still offer best bang for the buck in the EU, so thats where ill go.

targeted config:

- 3070 Ti

- 12600 (at approx 9900K OC levels for now its deffo fast enough for her, upgrade to 12900K or raptor lake in a few years)

- 2x8 GB DDR4-3800 taken from my Dark Knight (the things you do for love 😋)

- 1TB 850 Pro taken from her current Dell Vostro. will give her my 1TB 970 Pro once I upgrade sometime later this year.

- AX201 Wifi included in order, will keep that one although unnecessary since shes already rocking an AX200 via m.2 adapter in her Dell Vostro. will have to sell it off on ebay or here.

the aim is longevity to the max, if possible to keep her happy with this machine for at least 10 years (shes had her current Dell for 11!). so im guessing after 4-5 years well do one major upgrade for cpu (12900k or better), ram (32 or 64gb), storage (add to the then existing 2TB ssds) and wifi (whatever is current at that time). the gpu im not worried about in terms of performance, thatll definitely be enough for her since her gaming needs are quite frugal. just hope that the gpu will not give out on us sometime down the line. but hey mobo swap is still an option, amirite? 😋

gotta LOVE upgradeable laptops! 😃😁😎

Would using VF Offset Points help? I tried searching around for 12th gen undervolting guides and noticed a few mentioned that instead of using a static offset. The crash occurred at idle after applying the static offset with e-cores enabled.

You can individually address frequencies along the curve to apply offsets but I would first establish at what core count the crashes are occurring. Does it happen with a single core run? 4? 8? 12? 16? HT on or off? Does it crash even with a trivial uv like .0001 or is there a point it crashes?

What's the launch page for their system? I'll add it to the initial post.

It will be nice to see a 12600 in action to start rounding out PL limits and temps.

I use 2x8 Corsair DDR4-3800 in my X170SM-G. It will be nice to see with a custom profile how hard you can push it and especially where the motherboard traces give up the ghost. I like the fact they went with only 2x SODIMM slots.

I agree. Upgradable laptops are what I prefer and when they start soldering on everything even down to the wifi and memory that is proverbial nails on the chalkboard to me. I wish the GPU was modular but with the state of MXM and the industry there wasn't much that could be done. Either make it completely modular and upgradable classic Clevo style sans GPU modular or throw out the baby with the bathwater.

agreed 100% on everything u said 😄

here is the PCS page: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/destian-intel-15/

Note that the pricing differs depending on where you want to ship it to, since they automatically calculate the differing VAT for the respective target country.

yeah im looking forward to tweaking the system for my gf, will be loads of fun 🙂 i expect the 12600 should easily fit into the power budget of the system, thus legs fully stretched with no penalty on the boost bins. i also plan to check and see how far i can push the 2x8GB GSkill DDR4-3800 sticks thats ill be giving to her from my current P751DM. the max i can reach with 4 sticks on my Dark Knight is 3433 Mhz (unstable) and I run it at 3333-17-17-17-35 for daily usage (fully rockstable) at 1.20V.

as you said, the reduction to 2 slots / sticks should be beneficial to the max speed reachable. but yeah, ull also need luck of the draw in terms of mobo traces and CPU IMC.

So......think its time to open up a dedicated owner's lounge? Whos up for it? 😉

Agreed with the 12600 seeing how much @win32asmguy is able to extract performance wise so far on a full 8+8 chip.

On my P870TM I was able to push my Corsair 3800 sticks to 3467 stable in a 4x8GB config but sold two of them in the interim so I'm running 2x8GB in my X170SM-G. If I managed to track down a set of 2x8GB G.skills I'd definitely give them a whirl too but they've been EOL'd for quite some time.

I'll adjust the main post and this IS the lounge for the Socket 1700 Clevo 15.6" 😁 I'll need to track down vendors and more importantly Clevo's naming convention and change the header to it instead of just the Eurocom model.

I'm just really glad Clevo is still offering something this gen instead of abandoning the true desktop CPU laptop market altogether.

the specific model were talking about is the clevo NH55JNNQ with the 3070 Ti. i think in general the series would be NH5xJNxx for the various submodels that i saw on the clevo website.

ure right lol, this already is the lounge, just need to pimp it up a bit 😋😁

and u and me both super glad we still have desktop cpu models with max flexibility to play around with! 🤠

Any offset causes causes an instant crash. I tried -5mV, also even +5mV causes a crash as well. It only crashes if e-cores are enabled.

If I could have Clevo change anything on this chassis it would be to make a variant with no Nvidia, make the USB-C support Thunderbolt 4, and put an excellent 6-pipe to dual fan cooling solution so going to 200W could be done with a Z690 chipset and full overclocking support and a binned chip, and a larger battery. I know most people want a GPU, but I still wish there was a CPU-focused DTR like this.

omg YES! ive been advocating for a cpu focused DTR like this for ages! remove dgpu and 2.5 inch bays, stick to 2xm.2 and 2xram slots and use the whole remaining space to maximize battery capacity and cooling. add to that proper TB support for egpu and u got urself a winner! id buy that in a heartbeat...

btw seems like the bios/ec has a problem issuing the vcore change to the e cores. would suck if the only way to uv would be to disable e cores, defeats the whole purpose of having max multi core perf at hand and still be able to maximize battery life...

btw @electrosoftgood job on pimping up the OP, now we got ourselves a proper lounge here 😁

That is something with the BIOS then as a test trrivial +/- UV should not elicit that behavior with the e-core enabled and work with it disabled. On the plus side, my goal would be to dial in the P-cores with e-cores disabled anyhow but since this is a rev 1, we know there are plenty of bugs and kinks that will need to be worked out down the road.

Did you get a chance to give CCC a try and see what CPU controls it gives you similar to the X170 series?

I would like what you describe or even design it around the entry level model (3060) to purposely afford the CPU as much cooling as possible and still equip the unit with a decent entry level GPU. If you need more power then you could hook it up to an eGPU. First and foremost I would like a 17.3" version too.

As more users trickle in gotta make the first page a bit more proper.  Plus with more models and keyboards it will come up in searches better and get some more Clevo users in here. :classic_wink:

thx for the info! good thing is we now have the part number of the QHD screen, so upgrading down the line is always possible 😉

It does appear to be a bug of some sort. I eventually realized that even when it crashes after applying an undervolt, the value is still set after reboot and the system is stable. So 23,200 is possible in that scenario with CBR23 with a -90mV on core and P-cache with P-cores around 4ghz and 125W draw and max fans active with the system on a laptop stand, and the 3070Ti active at idle clocks just to drive my external display.

CCC is not very useful. It can set keyboard backlight colors, switch performance profiles, or adjust the fan curve.

I think the better, aftermarket heatsink could be a real possibility. If Clevo had added an extra mDP wired to the iGPU I would be much happier with forced hybrid graphics. I want all connected displays driven by the same GPU to simply the software configuration on Windows and Linux. I doubt Clevo will make a 17 inch variant of this model. It would likely be an X170 refresh with its own different limitations.

nice find with the UV sticking after reboot! so what were your latest settings with UV and at what clocks / power usage of the cpu? 23k on CB23 sounds awesome!

So to be clear, an UV will crash on setup but remain stable after boot through TS?

It will persist through warm boots, but is lost if you cold boot (maybe standby/resume as well). So far I have not found a bios option that can store a known stable undervolt (as you might do using a real desktop H670 board).

Here is the EFI commands that must be run to allow undervolting via Throttlestop:

# based on Eurocom Raptor X15 BIOS 1.07.05RPCS1 / EC 1.07.04 dump
setup_var CpuSetup 0x43 0x0 # disable Config Lock
setup_var CpuSetup 0x10e 0x0 # disable Overclocking Lock
setup_var CpuSetup 0x1d9 0x1 # enable Overclocking Feature

Here is a good blog post explaining the whole process, but you can start at Step 5 to make a bootable USB to modify the variables. Note that if you ever get a black screen from modifying things you can always remove the main and backup battery, and hold the power button down for 30 seconds to reset to factory defaults.

Glad to know the P+E UV crashes but persists through a warm boot and works. The slow uptick in scores is encouraging and you're ~4k behind a full fledge desktop score at this point and that is before a proper delid and seeing how to beef up the heatsink a bit.

I had to do a similar cvar procedure on my dell 11th gen to get uv's to work. I'll have to start moving some of these goodies to the main page as you continue to spelunker and really uncover a lot of goodies. The groundwork you're putting in is so much appreciated. We would be still running around in circles and guesstimating still at this point without your help.

Just the tools linked in the guide. You can see the setup menu dump in the earlier post:

Keep in mind that the offsets may be different if you have a different bios version on your machine from PCS, best to just dump it from your own machine to ensure things will work. The one from Eurocom was already very recent, built 4/16/2022 which was just a few days before mine shipped.

It also has some interesting stuff in it, like options to configure four e-core clusters instead of just two, which may mean Raptor Lake support is be baked into the feature set with a microcode update. It would be funny if we could put one of those in to this machine on release day.

duuude that is is indeed highly interesting! i just recently read the news about raptor lake leaked info of the flagship sporting 8P + 16E cores, so that bios option would make total sense in that context.

tbh, thats what i was counting on / hoping for when selecting this laptop, having another shot at a nextgen cpu upgrade to push its achieveable lifetime to the max 🙂

thx for pointing out the previous post again, that was a d'oh from my side 😇😋

hey guys, got some new interesting infos from having a nice little chat with our beloved Clevo wizard Prema:

- @win32asmguygo ahead and try to disable VBS / HVCI, maybe that could impvoe voltage adjustment with E Cores enabled: https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/disable-vbs-windows-11

- P and E Cores share the same core voltage, but cache voltages are separate

- the eDP throttle reason were seeing in TS is due to the board limiting max amperage being drawn. according to Prema, even if we disable the eDP throttling, the board would then instantly shutdown once that amperage limit is exeeded. so with this in mind, well have to squeeze out as much as we an from the available 125W PL1 envelope we have available while minimizing the core voltage (binned cpus FTW) and of course keep the system VRMs as cool as possible to minimize efficiency losses due do excessive heat.

- the max amperage limit set on the NH systems seems to be around 90A

--> based on 125W PL1, that equates to a max core voltage of 1.388V before we hit the 90A limit and start throttling...

btw, my gf's system has been built and is now on its way, should get it sometime next week 🙂

Glad to hear Prema is aware of this model.

So I actually do not have the virtualization stuff enabled already in Windows 10 21H2.

I have determined the crash is related to adjust CPU P Cache only - so adjusting CPU Core or CPU E Cache does not trigger the crash. Oddly enough, if you don't adjust P Cache to any offset value then any Core undervolting applied does not take effect either. Maybe a weird bug with Throttlestop + H670?

I am curious what @electrosoft's good bin 12900k scores at 125W PL1/PL2, just as a baseline against what mine is doing.

At least Prema is on the horizon....

I just tried to force limits on my Asus Z690 and just like my Asus Z590 it won't listen. Whether I enforce all limits, remove all limits or let BIOS optimize it basically ignores Intel's PLs and does its own thing. Even going into the aux CPU menu to enable tau mode (35w, 65w, 125w) does nothing regardless of DPTF. I could make my old MSI board enforce all PLs but Asus? Nope...

I do have an Asrock B660M with weak VRMs that may listen to what it is being told a bit better than Asus boards. It has a 12100f in it currently. I'll dig it out and hook it up and snoop around the BIOS a bit later.

this is weird. could be that the current bios only allows a parallel adjustment of core and cache voltage in unison?

@electrosoftany input u can bring to the table with your binned 12900k simulated at 125W would be sweet 😁
