KMikhail
The reason I haven't bought one is: M2200 is several times faster than original K2100, while T1200 is less than 2X faster than M2200 and still has the 4GB, which is a bit low for many applications. A2000 8GB would be much more appreciated. As much as I'm satisfied with M4800 (apart from lack of fast usb/tb/dp/hdmi ports and ssd interface), it is not worth to buy parts that would not be possible to sell later, and will go down with the laptop. Even SATA SSD will bear some value after a few years. MXM video card? Not so much.

KMikhail
4 hours ago, K4sum1 said: Seeing how rare and expensive MXM cards are compared to their desktop counterparts, I think it would hold value. The fact the price is high doesn't mean anybody will buy @ it. More over, the prices are often widely distributed. I've bought M2200 for $100, when some tried to sell it for $200. Since then (after a year), I've seen it at around $50. How about selling K2100 that's in my drawer and sits there just in case if M2200 fails? What I'm saying is paying $300 (and even $200) for an obsolete, albeit X1.8, graphics performance at some point will make no sense. $300 is a price of 8TB (one of two) that I might consider (to replace my 2+2 RAID1) and this might improve quality of life quite a bit: 1+1 RAID 0 and 7+7 RAID 1 partitions. That's faster than my system SSD and enough storage that will actually hold all of my media, that is otherwise kept on external RAID6 (+back up). 8TB will not be obsolete from a volume prospective for quite some time, only from an interface perspective - but it fits 3.5" HDD slot with a caddy, so it will live long enough to be sold later. Hence, my gist is - nope. One T1000 that's on and off market is not a HP or DELL, but rather something like https://www.aetina.com/products-detail.php?i=425 and those start at thousands as they are marketed for embedded, long-term support applications. I presume it is sold now off the channel, since the initial support has ceased to exist and they are trying to make anything they still can, mostly by probing ebay, since they likely have a gazillion of cards from many, many generations. We got to keep in mind, MXM is compatible mostly with pretty old systems and there's a lot of better and not much more expensive models in between them and what's current on the market. The obsolete models are constantly pushed back. Regards, Mikhail

Per Astra Ad Deum
Regarding the necessity of the dGPU being present to make use of the HDMI and the DP port on the M6800, have a look at these two pictures: The first one shows the available GPUs on the OS with Switchable Graphics enabled in the BIOS menu. As you can see, both GPUs are visible, iGPU (Intel) and dGPU (ATI/AMD). The second images shows the same output with Switchable Graphics disabled in the BIOS menu. As you can see here, the option disables the iGPU, not the dGPU! With this it is safe to assume that the dGPU is a necessity if you want to make use of the HDMI or DP port. What a pity. 😞 Since the M6800 and the M4800 are basically the same platform, I'll assume that this is the same for both notebooks. 😞

I do believe that it is possible to get an RTX 3000 from HP for the Z2 Mini however this is an 80w card and you'll have to mod the heatsink as well desolder one of the rear ports as the card is much wider normal. There is a little bit of the lower body that has to be trimmed where the two heatsinks meet for alignment but only requires some pliers to break off. Other than not having an hot air station I only got one of these cards and having to decide between two machines which is to get this upgrade. The other machine is an top spec 7510 and I would have to remove the ethernet port along with a small header on the board then mod the heatsink however boards for this model aren't as disposable as the 4800 should something go wrong. I saw someone say that the mSATA slot was less stable than the regular SATA slot, so I would like to hear experiences from others Many thanks in advance I used mSATA in the M4800 for the whole time that I had one with zero problems. It goes in the WWAN slot. (There might be an option in the BIOS that you have to check to switch that slot between PCIe mode and SATA mode.... I do not recall, it was there on some older Precisions but I think that this one switches automatically.) Double-sided should fit fine, there is plenty of clearance. You cannot put a mSATA drive into another slot. It has to be hooked up to the chipset SATA controller and only the WWAN slot has that connection; the other slots just offer PCIe and USB connections. (You could, however, put a WWAN card into one of the other slots, since that uses a PCIe connection... if you could somehow get it to physically fit, or if they make a half-height one.) I have not put an mSATA drive into any systems older than M6700 so I can't say for sure about those older ones. I do recall people mentioning that there was trouble booting from the mSATA card in the M6500. 1 Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch, 2023 (personal) • Dell Precision 7560 (work) • Full specs in spoiler block below Info posts (Windows) — Turbo boost toggle • The problem with Windows 11 • About Windows 10/11 LTSC Spoiler Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch, 2023 (personal) M2 Max 4 efficiency cores 8 performance cores 38-core Apple GPU 96GB LPDDR5-6400 8TB SSD macOS 15 "Sequoia" 16.2" 3456×2234 120 Hz mini-LED ProMotion display Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth 5.3 99.6Wh battery 1080p webcam Fingerprint reader Also — iPhone 12 Pro 512GB, Apple Watch Series 8 Dell Precision 7560 (work) Intel Xeon W-11955M ("Tiger Lake") 8×2.6 GHz base, 5.0 GHz turbo, hyperthreading ("Willow Cove") 64GB DDR4-3200 ECC NVIDIA RTX A2000 4GB Storage: 512GB system drive (Micron 2300) 4TB additional storage (Sabrent Rocket Q4) Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 15.6" 3940×2160 IPS display Intel Wi-Fi AX210 (Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth 5.3) 95Wh battery 720p IR webcam Fingerprint reader Previous Dell Precision 7770, 7530, 7510, M4800, M6700 Dell Latitude E6520 Dell Inspiron 1720, 5150 Dell Latitude CPi
