135 USD is too much, I'll better stick with solder, copper plates, spare Alienware heatsink, dremel, etc. I am curious to see what cicichen comes up with only to see the design he went with. Nah, I'll pass, already got one heatsink from him.

For now I am taming my 4060 using: nvidia-smi -lgc 210,1620 nvidia-smi -lmc 210,8002 (JASON X-VSION said that I should try 1350 mHz clock speed, but I stopped at 1620, GPU doesn't go above 65W which is pretty comfortable. VRAM doesn't get toasty too).

https://github.com/xCuri0/ReBARUEFI Take a look here, but here is my word of advice, from my experience of course - this is a very nerve-wracking procedure, going back through my thread you can see that I made an external door entrance to access (dremel + metal file + velcro) BIOS chips using CH341A + clip, I probably flashed the BIOS around 80 times on my machine, it is very messy. I will maybe try coreboot out once again next time, just to see a clearer picture, but it won't be daily driver worthy (coreboot repo for m4800&m6800 lacks audio fixes, no battery communication and lots of other things).

Hi, everyone, I've tried to implement ReBar using the mod guide from GitHub (made by xCuri0), but it is extremely unstable and is very hit or miss, i7 4980HQ + Quadro T1000 combo made it look like something was going on inside, even had "Above 4G Decoding" and "Resizable Bar" showing up as active in GPU-Z, but the success was short lived (increased bar size to 1 GB from what I remember, after that point - laptop can't boot). I installed i7 4930MX + Quadro T1000 and the mod stopped working compltelely, even when rebar is disabled (github mod allows to set the bar using an .exe app) it doesn't boot, same with RTX 4060. What I think is that the uefipatch step from RebarDxe page should be done differently, after a careful research using GHIDRA & IDA Pro to see EXACTLY what should be patched, because even though there are some provided Haswell 1150 patches on the page - barely any actually apply.

That's exactly what I wanted when asking cicichen to make me a heatsink.. dang it.. why it didn't come out like this...

As I said already - I'll try my best to replicate the design once I get some pictures and information, I've tried to drop in some heatpipes just to see the fitment, but space is kinda restricted there, balls to the wall situation. I've used xCuri0's Dxe module and guide from here: https://github.com/xCuri0/ReBarUEFI It is pretty hit or miss, I have done this mod at least five times until I got it somewhat right... just to see i7 4930MX walk in and reject everything, laptop didn't even try to boot. Black screen (no backlight too) -> no indicators except for the power button -> pressing the power button results in a fan ramp up and then it shuts down. This is a pretty standard behavior I noticed when BIOS breaks on this laptop.

UPDATE 11 - 13#: now for sure Got a much smaller 240W LA240PM180 charger, it is very sleek and light, love it! An old XM3C3 was too big, it loved to crush things in my backpack. Swapped a severely degraded i7 4980HQ --> i7 4930MX (Slightly overclocked, but most importantly undervolted, don't wanna mess with the old man) NVIDIA RTX 4060 works.. a whole year after I bought it. Countless hours spent on studying DSDT/SSDTs, sketchy Ghidra/IDA Pro patches... just for the main culprit to be... a mutant abomination of a CPU I had... DLSS RAYTRACING HUANG JACKET OVEN (nah, screw him, M4800 doesn't wanna see DLSS 5) Custom boot logo (I LOVE Sybreed, I think it really fits this laptop) Plans: Get a lower TDP VBIOS (or MAYBE one with adjustable power limits, if it exists... and not kept locked behind countless "BUY OUR GPU, NO BUY GPU = NO VBIOS FOR YOU" emails. Come on, TechPowerUp VBIOS database doesn't bite.) Fix ReBar (i7 4930MX doesn't want to work with my modified BIOS) Do something about the SUBSYS ID on the GPU, I want to get rid of the modded drivers once for all, 1028 15CC ain't gonna cut it. I have to investigate this more... if only DSanke was here.... Do the eDP mod to finally disable iGPU, probably when I get my hands on a better panel, can't afford the panel right now.. Life Is Peachy

Need help for editing or getting VBIOS for 4080M and 4090M MXM
MELOCODI replied to SuperMG's topic in Components & Upgrades
Is there a way to get the ZRT 4060 VBIOS? 60W sounds perfect for the semi-stock M4800 cooling system. About that heatsink - do you have pictures? Dang it, when I was getting the heatsink from him for my M4800 he said that dual pipe heatsink can't be done... I specifically asked him.... -

Has anyone dumped 4060 MXM VBIOSes? I would like to test them out on my X-VSION RTX 4060, maybe reduce the TDP -

Sadly it only lets you reduce clocks and temp limit, although GPU-Z says that power limit can be changed down to -89%, but I can't figure out how to do that. MSI Afterburner is useless in this case. Weird. -

It is actually fine, memory didn't go above 70 C, kinda nuts, but if I let the GPU run without GPUTWEAK - core easily goes above 87 C with 105-ish C on the hotspot. But what is even scarier is the power consumption - M4800 supplied 115W while being stressed by FurMark Knot (VK) 1080P -

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any smaller TDP VBIOSes that would be compatible with XVSION 4060. There is a small workaround - ASUS GPUTWEAK III, for some reason MSI Afterburner just didn't let me adjust anything, GPUTWEAK III however does, I lowered the temp limit to 80C and it sits at around 65-80 W, but hey, it freaking works!!!!! I was fighting with my M4800 to get RTX 4060 working since December 2024.. to this day, and the issue was the i7 4980HQ mutant CPU. I am using an i7 4930MX now. EDIT: Power limit is NOT adjustable, only temperature and clocks. This WONT reduce the TDP from 115W but rather force it to go down once the certain temp limit is reached. Pretty sketchy experience so far, but it is what it is. -

Here is the best picture of the internals I took a while back, maybe that will help, I tried to play around with some heatsink parts to kinda check the fitment, but couldn't figure out how to jam in another heatpipe on the GPU, tolerances are pretty tight... maybe cutting the palmrest plastic is the way? Don't wanna ruin the rigidity

Didn't have any results yet, but from what I see - this GPU needs a VBIOS with less max TDP, this goes into a scary territory + some scary coil whine. This is under FurMark 2 VK stress test ≈ 1 minute.

I've just plugged it in for a test. So, the PCIe x16 goes straight from the CPU itself, and what happened is that my i7 4980HQ died one day... I ditched the whole mutant idea and went with i7 4930MX, one folk gifted me one and with this CPU 4060 started working. When i7 4980HQ is installed - 4060 doesn't work, when i7 4930MX is installed - 4060 works. I will check everything out, as I have only tried this with laptop being half disassembled and booted into WinPE. This is HUGE.

Guys... it works... it freaking works... 4060 was fine all along, it was a fault with my old i7 4980HQ mutant CPU. 4060 WORKS FINE.
