I have found a very good comparison between the various AM5 boards. Good to look at it for a future purchase.

Be careful with the voltage on the new Ryzen gaming chips. The X3D chips looks fragile. But with AMDs slippery slope you can have the chance to try the silicon lottery once again if you aren't happy with what you got. Just pump in some more voltage😀 So don't bother flash next bios version. You may not be able to flash it back.

Yep, I gave that nice advice to bro @electrosoft CIGAR.gif.31f604d464ba78d9eb7be0935258076f.gifCIGAR.gif.31f604d464ba78d9eb7be0935258076f.gifCIGAR.gif.31f604d464ba78d9eb7be0935258076f.gif

7800X3D is a no brainer for an easy , drop in massive boost to gaming like the 5800X3D is for AM4.

Depending on your use case, 7950X3D makes perfect sense. I said it elsewhere, but for myself I would just disable the second CCD if it is acting inappropriately with my given games and just re-enable it for normal D2D use but if gaming is your focus, 7800X3D is the go to chip.

As for mindfactory, like any new product, let's see where it settles in after the initial launch rush but the 7800X3D really does check all the boxes for a gamer focused CPU.

I'm leaning towards the Asrock X670E lightening PG for a potential X3D buildout. It seems to check all my boxes including a killer price for a full X670E chipset.

Coincidentally, Asrock also makes the beefiest/best PCB 7900xtx (Taichi) a repeat of their 6900xt/6950xt best PCB design with the Formula OC.

Yes for my use , work and gaming i will buy thee 7950x3d cpu but not at this price, ill wait to go lower. 500 Us or so. will happen soon i think now that 7800x3d is here. Even better as disable is to use Proceesor lasso and assign the game on the Vcache  CCD, that way the oder CCD will take the backround  tasks and free the vcache  only for gaming.

I've been looking over Lasso and assignments and the easiest way still seems to be just to spend a minute disabling the non 3D CCD for gaming and enabling it for everything else but I'll cross that use scenario down the road.

I ended up going with an MSI X670E Carbon that I found open box from Amazon for ~$320. I was about to pull the trigger on the 3rd party open box for $365 when I refreshed and it popped up so I grabbed it.

I have some M-die DDR5 heatsinked 2x16GB sitting on the shelf that can hit 6600. It's been on the shelf for over 6 months waiting for a home.

Just need to either pony up for a 7950X3D or wait for a 7800X3D and save $250.

Great deal on that x670. It's a good board, I'm very happy with msi and how they are working with the am5 socket. They are getting very fast new bios versions.

Yeah need to try lasso aswell when time comes, was reading a bit on reddit about it and it looks simple enough, you can save presets apparently. Just make the config for the game,  save it and then it's just a click away.

I use ProcessLasso and ParkControl (same software developer) concurrently and both utilities are very valuable. They compliment one another nicely, and they were worth every penny I spent on them. It makes it even sweeter that they are not a subscription SaaS rubbish like so many have become. I bought them a long time ago. I have used them on multiple systems. I only had to buy once, and the updates keep coming. That level of integrity is getting difficult to find in the PC tech space.

One nice example of how I use it is assigning priority and affinity to specific workload executables (in things like 3DMark benchmarks, or wPrime, as two specific examples) based on how each executable responds to core count and workload priority. You can actually control priority and affinity for each running thread. And, it does enhance benchmark scores. I am certain it could be used in the same way to maximize gaming performance. And, these are things that just about every OS fails at.

Indeed. That is something I always look for. Sometimes I skip the opporitunity to purchase something I want because SaaS is a ripoff and I believe in paying for something you want... once. I also hate DRM. I shouldn't have to pay for the same thing twice just because I upgraded my hardware. That is also a scam. I try to find something similar that I only have to buy once, then use it forever. Even if it is not as good as what I originally wanted, I like it better because I don't like getting screwed by greedy software developers.

7950X3D will be a nice overall bump over your 7900x, congrats!

I saw Newegg is offering them now with a $25 discount so pricing is moving in the right direction. My 7800X3D arrived yesterday and my Carbon X670E will be here today. Hopefully I can carve out some time to get it setup sooner than later in my workbench case.

I think the 7800X3D will work out for me considering I usually run my 12900k 5.2 all core locked P-Cores only but I'll leave ther 7950X3D as an option. Plan is to ride this till 8000 X3D unless Intel somehow drops the high heat (or the 7800X3D sucks).

SaaS is a plague. I should be able to buy it outright and if...IF I think an upgraded version is worthy I'll buy it but if I'm content with the current version, why am I continuing to pay for it? Nevermind the language basically saying you don't even own the product many times.

DRM is a nuisance I'm somewhat ok with until it breaks or slows down my system or forces another purchase.

Thx, I think you getting a 7800x3d push me to bite the bullet😂😂😂. Yeah I needed from the beginning a 16 core, went with the 7900x only because I got it cheap with ddr5 bundle and was a known fact at launch that a x3d Version was coming so thats the reason of skipping the normal 7950x.

The new Ryzen burnout fixing AMD AGESA 1.0.0.7 BIOS is reportedly buggy tweaktown.com | May 5, 2023

Recently we reported on a new and mandatory AMD AGESA 1.0.0.7 BIOS Firmware for all AM5 motherboards built for the new Ryzen 7000 CPUs. This a direct response to the burnout issues found on some Ryzen 7000X3D chips that were damaging both the chip and motherboard.

AMD's root cause for the issue was around voltage. The new firmware limits the SoC voltage to 1.3V. It adds other measures/fixes to ensure processors don't exceed their temperature specifications - while not affecting memory overclocking via AMD EXPO profiles.

With potentially damaged hardware on the line, no doubt there's a rush to get this out to as many customers (and board partners) as possible, but with ASUS using a BETA release of the new AGESA 1.0.0.7 BIOS firmware, it looks like there are still issues to work out, which could delay the proper and final rollout of firmware to fix the burnout issue by weeks.

So then, what's the current hold-up? Well, it seems that memory speeds are being affected. A report from leaker chi11eddog on Twitter notes that memory speeds are being cut down to DDR5-4400 compared to the DDR5-6000 speeds with the older AGESA 1.0.0.6 BIOS.

That's really horrible. I always thought the X3D chips were pretty silly, but this is a real tragedy for anyone that wasted their money on one. They should replace all of the X3D SKUs with a complimentary 7950X.

AMD should never ever increased the X3D lineup. Just make one gamer chips as they did for 5000 series Ryzen. Look at the 7900X3D fiasco. The greed kicked in and they lost their mind. The 7900X3D is in short a 6 core gaming chips for huge premium.
