Btw Noctua already made the IHS padding product, it's retail and available.

Noctua presents NA-TPG1 thermal paste guard for AMD AM5

Quote

“While there’s no denying that AMD’s new Ryzen 7000 processors perform fantastic, we found that the cut-outs at the side of the heat-spreader tend to attract thermal paste that can be challenging to clean off” says Roland Mossig (Noctua CEO). “This is where our new thermal paste guard steps in: it’s a simple yet highly effective tool for keeping your new Ryzen 7000 series CPU nice and clean.”

Made from highly heat-resistant polycarbonate and forming a tight seal around the edges of the CPU’s heat-spreader , the NA-TPG1 is simple and risk free to apply and remove. Despite its simplicity, it is highly efficient at preventing thermal paste from accumulating in the cut-outs at the sides of AM5 CPUs.

Quote

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price will be EUR/USD 7.90 for the NA-STPG1, EUR/USD 9.90 for the NT-H1 3.5g AM5 Edition and EUR/USD 13.90 for the NT-H2 3.5g AM5 Edition.

u said it brother! form over function FTW! glad were ALL on the same page for this one /s 🤣

We certainly are on the same page but manufacturers these days are not even on the same bookshelf any more.

They proudly parade their regression for all of us to see like for example MSI who reduced the sustained power draw for GPU and CPU from well in excess of 300W to 250W. Or Dell that had a power draw of - oh wait they did not really have that as those Area 51m went up in flames.

And then Clevo who for this generation do not even have a proper flagship model any more, let's hope it will return with Raptor Lake.

It is certainly better than not using anything, but the fact that it sits on top of the ILM is a bit weird. It would be OK for normal thermal paste. If the image is accurate, it doesn't fit snugly against the IHS like a glove which makes it kind of iffy for liquid metal. I would want to see a much better fit against the perimeter of the IHS and sealed off tighter since there are so many SMDs waiting patiently to be short-circuited by a drop of liquid metal. Maybe the sides could be trimmed down to allow it to fit under the ILM and then you could put a small amount of RTV silicone on the underside next to the SMDs and squish the shroud down onto that. This would make it much safer, with no gaps for a tiny ball of doom to drop onto the SMDs.

tbh, one might as well just do a bunch of kapton tape cutouts around the IHS and beneatht the ILM. might not be as "elegant" of a solution as this Noctua paste guard, but better protection including against LM and also easy to remove and redo.

this was actually THE first thought that popped into the my when the Zen4 IHS was first leaked a few months ago: oh gawd, thats gonna be a mess to properly clean up after every single repaste....😅

Yes, that would totally work... absolutely. You could also use nail polish on them to shield against liquid metal. In fact, doing that in conjunction with Kapton tape or a guard would be smart for an extra measure of protection.

I really like the der8auer silicon version best. I don't know how long until it becomes available, or if a release date has been announced yet. It looks like it would be convenient and reusable. I think the Noctua version would be just fine for non-conductive thermal compound though. Without something it looks like those notched areas will be kind of messy.

AMD lowers forecast after weak processor sales

Weak results on the consumer side cause AMD to warn and adjust the company's financial forecast for both the next quarter and on an annual basis.

It is mainly one segment that is affected, what AMD refers to as "Client". It is usually AMD's cash cow and includes, among other things, Ryzen processors for both desktop and laptop computers. According to AMD, it is low sales figures on the consumer side combined with excess inventory. The latter forces OEMs and partner manufacturers to lower their prices, which in turn affects what average price (ASP) AMD can charge. There, lower ASP for specific processors is pointed out.

Sadly, there is a price to pay for stupidity, and all of us reap the harvest whether we are unwilling participants or contributors. The lowest common denominators ruin things for everyone.

amen to that. i remember during the pandemic i was sooooo itchy to get new hardware but now i am sooo glad i didnt pay those absolutely insane prices. AM5 platform and 4090 now seems frugal in comparison 🤣

Reviews that give it 3 stars also don't help boost the sales. AMD and it's MB partners has to take a lot blame for the low sales (too high prices). A 30% drop in price from today's hideous prices would help dramatically on the sales.

true, prices didnt help at all. means intel will not be able to charge anything similar, even if its at a slight discount vs. Zen4. probably why theyre planning to lay off such a huge number of their employees, keep those margins high!

im guessing platform cost for one, having two chipsets instead of one for X670E, add to that DDR5 only, PCIe 5, just too many new tech revisions all at once. plus they were likely super confident on the back of their Zen3 success and with 1 month+ of having the market to themselves before Intel's RPL. i guess they were a bit too optimistic haha

Intel will lanch loads of new processors. From cheap to the more expensive SKUs. More options for people that don't want spend a lot money in such bad times. How many options did AMD offer with Zen4? And how many cheaper SKUs did they push out? This is one of many of the AMD self introduced problems.

Better enjoy it while it lasts lol

Cross compatibility is not what Intel is known for in any space. First time since when? Sandy to Ivy?

thats the thing, one one side u have expensive parts and platform but long-term support, on the other hand u have a dead-end platform with more value options (i.e. lower end cpus and DDR4)

Yep, many go with a cheaper Cpu then upgrade the Cpu once a new gen platform is out. So many will have same platform 5 years down the road to cut costs. many ways to Rome 🙂

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X Posts Significantly Higher Gaming Performance with a CCD Disabled

 Today, 04:47 Discuss (0 Comments)
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X 16-core processor exhibits some strange behavior with regards to the max boost frequency spread among its cores. A multi-chip module with two 8-core CCDs (CPU complex dies); we noticed early on in our review that the cores located in CCD-1 boost to a higher frequency than the ones in CCD-2, with differences as high as 300 MHz. CapFrameX noticed that when CCD-2 is disabled, the processor actually puts out higher gaming performance, by as much as 10%. This is mainly because the cores in CCD-2, with a lower maximum boost frequency no longer handle processing load from the game; and with CCD-2 disabled, CCD-1 has all of the processor's power budget—up to 230 W—to itself, giving it much higher boost residency across its 8 cores.

yep ive seen this behaviour early on in reviews, i think it was HUB. i didnt know about the higher gaming perf with just one CCD though! wth guys, why do we always need ro deactivate smth, baby cores or a ccd with the new cpus? 😅 need to check how mine is behaving, apparently not all cpus show this behaviour.

still busy installing and setting up everything, havent gotten around to much tuning yet.

Probably, at least in part, because games are made to run best on trashy hardware that is not worthy or fit for use in a respectable PC.

Entire PC market is in decline, Ignore Apple since it's a special case of human idiocy.

https://www.techpowerup.com/img/qbj0E2EswQoT1NG3.jpg

AMD pricing is higher but I believe it's not ultra high insane BS like Nvidia's garbage or the use and throw dumpster products.

All the reviewers where crying about how the mobo prices are bad. But they are totally out of touch and fail to make a solid point. The aspect of PC DIY, only a few people will go and shell out money on Day 0 or Pre-order, Most of them wait for deals and buy the mid range parts. Second is during the AM4 era of AMD due to high socket lifetime everyone bought one and they simply kept on upgrading their gear, which is why Ryzen 5000 is still chart topper on Amazon and Newegg CPU lists.  That says one thing which is AM4 is still a widely used Socket regardless of new CPUs launched from both Intel and AMD. AM4 is uber saturated. And with COVID everyone who wanted a PC went to get AMD only.

So the B650 mobos launched a week back, the pricing conundrum doesn't hold up well at all. AMD B650 motherboards are now available, pricing starts at $159

Looking at Intel boards and AMD top end both are blisteringly expensive higher BOM due to PCIe5.0 and more redrivers and DDR5 and thicker PCBs more VRMs PC is getting insanely expensive, GPUs from Nvidia trash are even worse.

American Economic situation is a disaster. 10% inflation, highest in past 30-40 years, Housing market in America is insane at 6-7% interest, then we have the whole war thing where America keeps sending billions and billions of cash and MIC corporations keep getting their nice fat checks while the American population is still trying to get a hold total funds sent to Ukraine are whopping $60Billions+ and the Euro nations castrated themselves with decommissioning Nuclear power in the name of BS environment.

Economic Impact is coming. Stock Market is totally cratered overall it's a disaster. Due to Global currency being USD standard entire world currencies are dropping vs American Dollar and losing their value because FED / Central bank printed trillions of dollars into economy to address COVID (I got this btw, 2 days of weakness that's it and had smell and taste sensation gone for 1 week due to phlegm in the sinuses that is all and now I'm all healthy did not took any jab and and my company dropped the mandate too noticing the issues of useless vaccines and side effects).  And after effects of economic correction due to Fed hiking the basis points in interest and world trade hits other nations causing their currency to lose value and goods becoming expensive vs America and lot more factors but those are top of my head.

Nvidia lost their sales in Client, covered by TPU in August.

Anandtech and TPU both covered this Oct Press of AMD financials.

Look at Datacenter and Client for AMD, the corporations are giving them insane amount of cash while Consumer market is suffering.

At a high level, AMD’s situation mirrors the rest of the tech industry, particularly other chip rivals like Intel and NVIDIA. For a multitude of reasons from reduced consumer demand to preparations for a likely recession, PC OEMs are significantly reducing their stockpiles of completed systems and parts. OEM inventories had become relatively bloated following the pandemic, as OEMs surged to meet the spike in demand for new client systems for a newly-remote workforce. But as the pandemic has subsided, so has the demand for new systems.

As a result of these inventory drawdowns, OEMs are currently ordering relatively few new client processors. Which in turn is hitting chip suppliers hard as orders from their biggest customers are in a heavy decline.

Intel already posted a massive loss in decades too. Q2

This quarter's results were below the standards we have set for the company and our shareholders. We must and will do better. The sudden and rapid decline in economic activity was the largest driver, but the shortfall also reflects our own execution issues," said Pat Gelsinger, Intel CEO. "We are being responsive to changing business conditions, working closely with our customers while remaining laser-focused on our strategy and long-term opportunities. We are embracing this challenging environment to accelerate our transformation."

All in all PC DIY took a massive hit nosedive, the economy failing is the primary cause and the AMD products, even Intel's own products already satisfy a ton of PC users barring those use and throw JUNK BGA CANCEROUS POS HW who buy every damn year like Smartphones.

I expect this slump to continue towards 2023 Q3-4 as well. This should be a lesson to the trash Nvidia for not scalping their own goddamed market. We will see.

Nice so in January we will have the zen4 3d versions. Will the reign of i9 13900k also be short lived? In gaming i think amd will retake the crown.
