Windscreen report for anyone interested. Have driven today in different low sun front\sides conditions, outstanding improvement. Sun ahead & could now see the road ...and the cyclists + someone walking, instead of blinded by a million sun reflection stripes. Cannot see or find any glass degradation at all after the machining, just everything clearer. & an easy, inexpensive, relaxing job. So far 5 x 20 minutes polishing rounds with a good dose of compound each time. So this Mirka Polarshine bottle does what it says on the label (at least on my specific screen, my way of working, my time spent etc). Vague estimation of how it works, it (well, the polishing machine) will remove some µ mm's thickness of glass. The harder-than-glass polishing particles in the compound will during that of course make 'new stripes', but with a size of 0,003 mm = invisible for driver (and sun), polishing\grinding off the wiper induced stripes which were maybe something like (guessing) 0,1 or 0,05 mm. On top of now seeing the road ahead, got the dead airconditioning fixed today (currently in south europe, 35 degrees midday) = a great car day 🤩

What to call this ? Depressive melodic classical black metal doom or something? Anyway, a ton of good musical work, arrangements, skills and creativitiy, definitely not just a wall of noise ! Needs listening to all a few times before one grasps all that is gone into making it (As always, sorry for some of the vocals, the guy must have some serious dental or stomach pains :O)

:O) that is what I have been hoping to happen!! for years!, A big stone (greatetst chances in winter\snow\salt\grit times) and a real crack \ serious dent then I'd only have to pay a few %'s and the insurance would give me a shiny new screen. But nope, passes all tech inspections, never any real damage, just matted\dulled by wiper wear (van is 19 years! but low mileage and well maintained\reliable\practical so I keep it). And as mentinonned could have throwed a stone and called the insurance, but such activity no (longer lol) part of my lifestyle.

Interesting to see that this polish thing gets interest. If these are scratches you cannot see (or very, very faint) in normal daylight nor feel but gets matte\dull with the sun at certain, special angles, it's definitively a candidate for polish. There may be many brands \ types of polish liquids available, only one I could find in my country was the 'Mirka' stuff. Others may be better or worse. Will report back as soon as I have used the car more and met with the known 'dangerous sun angle' a few times. It's strange, many years ago one could book 1\2 hour at any car glass repair shop and they did polishing, done it many times with 1st class results, felt like driving off with a brand new car! Now nobody have ever heard about it, impossible, or serves big stories about how the screen will be destroyed, crack etc. My screen was bad indeed, especially at the overlapping of the 2 wipers (a little left of the screen middle). 4x 20 minutes polish rounds so far, used 125ml polish liquid. Things do look brighter no doubt! And feeling secure there is zero damage done to windscreen. My end results will only be specific to the type of polishing machine used, the type of polish, the way I did the polish, and how long\how many times :O) ps, sorry to hijack the oil topic, but got relationship, as a 1st time job (on car) surmounting doubts about how to do it, fear of failure, make matters worse with wrong tools etc. But yes, I've done my own car service for dozens of years (had 5 cars at the top of the car hobby\madness). Oil, fluids, all filters, brakes, calipers, electrical, sensors, regular safety inspections etc. Apart from the satisfaction of being able to do important \ necessary work, over many years this has no doubt saved me a 'small quite large' fortune.

As written. May well end up with one someday as am very interested in experiencing the cameras. Same applies to the top of line Honor & Xiaomi, sadly can't buy all 3 to test :O) so it'll be a matter of coming across a good deal on any of them someday (or one of my current phones breaks and it changes into need-to-buy situation). And happy that you are satisfied with yours, like many pixel owners. -
Correct, it's for microscopic lines from wiper use. As mentionned, they are totally invisible and un-fealeable ...until a low sun hits from front. The compound's polishing material\particles says size 3 μ, if I get it right = 0,003 mm = polishing to restore clear surface, not remove 'real' scratches, never meant to take a away 1\2 mm of glass :O) Well, maybe if one used 100 liters and polished daily for a few months :O) btw, tested the stuff on some (plastic) protection googles (angle grinder work etc), gave them a second life. 1st impression after windscreen polish is positive, very good amelioration and no ill effects. But have yet to drive into the exact problematic strong low-sun condition, will see if needing a few more rounds of polish.

Agree, am no speed freak at all, not gaming, few apps etc. My old Samsungs (well adb cleaned) still doing great in fluidity and speed, even 60hz screens looks excellent to me. Daily reliability way more important than any benchmarks. The pixel things that makes me put some brakes on are battery time, charging time, radio\modem sensitivity, factory quality control, botched updates (releasing very fast if great, but history tells they sometimes should do some more tests 1st :O) I'm looking for something very good and reliable in those areas (in addition to great cameras, as want to move away from Samsung in that dept.). p9 pro xl is on my list, looks like improvemnets in battery and modem (+ great display). I am sure most got no pixel problems, but some gets doses of major headaches (ref. reddit and many other sources of news\reports). Happens to all brands, but got the impression that pixels are specially affected. Anyway, zero hurry for anything, someday will come across a 'like new' SH or great deal on Amazon etc for one of those models I wish to try out. -
In between my regular doses of black\heavy\guitar\drums\raw\energy etc, taking the time to leave this world's disturbances and forget all, with minimalistic, relaxing, drone-like stuff :O) Hiemal - Arcane Ruins Become Spruce And Moss Thom Brennan - Mist

Still Samsung A52s and Note10 Lite (need many sims). Both behaving excellent in every way. Like new really, after 3 & 4 years. Will keep them until something serious happens like black screen, motherboard failure etc or whatever not worth any repair, gives a good excuse to get something newer :O) The only wanted\needed improvement is the camera dept., the latest offerings in zoom, macro, low light. Contenders (with correct roms for my region): Honor Magic 5\6 pro, Xiaomi 13 pro, 14 ultra. Pixel as a maybe (like 8pro ...at a major discount), it definitely got the cameras, yes, but lagging behind in too many other ways (imo) (except AI which is not my main concern in phones). Samsung ftm not high on the list, although generally great, solid, well built etc, love oneui, but the direction and philosophy of their image software and image treatment makes me look elsewhere. -
Just another small 'first time' car story, the windscreen on my van over the years severely worn by microscopic traces from the wiper blades. 100% impossible to see them in normal use, but when a low sun shines from a certain direction I get ***completely*** blinded by a million of minuscule stripes, literally lethally dangerous. Long ago windscreen repairshops offered polishing service, but no longer, they rahther sell a 1500 $ new glass. Alternative would be to throw a stone and claim damage from insurance (new screen with just a small % to pay personally), but nope, am staying legit in life. The windscreen otherwise fine, decided to try glass polishing at home. Initial tests seemed that at least the special polish compound did no damage, so gave it some hours of repeated polish\clean\re-polish etc. Zero experience in polishing work, so will see in the coming days if it was worth it.

UK unrest, Musk: “civil war is inevitable” Why can't this guy learn to take his pills regularly, and concentrate on his real and outstanding skills, like Tesla, SpaceX. "agitator-in-chief Elon Musk" lol https://edition.cnn.com/2024/08/06/tech/elon-musk-civil-war-uk-riots/index.html

:O) This. Well, bought it some time ago, but put to heavy use recently. My country cabin is close to a gentle, beautiful little river ...which a few times a year goes catastrofically over it's borders and leaves behind tons of big rocks along it's berges. So, the joy of cleaning up and cutting things up into manageable sizes to transport stones away. Good for building muscles! The machine, china-ebay stuff, costing next to nothing (price\weight\useability ratio :O) does an absolutely miraculous job. Bluetooth Sennheiser headset taking care of all noise, enjoying heavy hardrock while working.
