  1. Telemetry: https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10 Activation: ...Google Maintenance: CCleaner (privacy: block in Firewall) Security: MS Defender (as good as anything else)
  2. Still using the 2013 version, currently on 4 machines. Now and then testing anything and everything to replace it, but always returning to the solid, reliable old dinosaur. Know nothing about possible insecurity (or win 11), only situation that would call for the "new and better".
  3. A little offtopic, anyone has tested the duck ? https://duckduckgo.com/windows Am using their android version, fast and no clutter.
  4. lol X owner Elon Musk is threatening to sue the Anti-Defamation League for defamation, claiming that the nonprofit organization’s statements about rising hate speech on the social media platform have torpedoed X’s advertising revenue. https://edition.cnn.com/2023/09/05/tech/elon-musk-adl-lawsuit/index.html
  5. ...and loose most potential buyers > immediate bankruptcy :O) Looking at what happened to Huawei. But offering a degoogled os option (and their own safe app site) would be a nice move though, could harvest buyers among the privacy conscious, on top of those attracted by the sustainable side. But (in my Samsungs at least) all and every Google app can be disabled directly in app settings. Strangely enough, as one would believe Google would have chosen to cement and lock all their apps. And for those who know a little, all easilly uninstalled with adb. But I do not know what will leak to Google from other apps \ the os itself. Anyway, got to live (and deal) with things or stop using a smartphone. btw, Apple do not (-I believe-, got no recent Iphone experience) gives any and all causual user the possibility to disable all Apple apps. In that context Android is better out of the box.

  8. Another 8.1 (with classic shell) praise :O) Just checked the old Tosh (near 10 years old, still in regular use for yt & music streaming \ playing), realized it's original 8.1 install is nearing it's 10th birthday. All updates installed. Never the slightest sign of problem, error or hiccup during all that time. & only ever done 1 Reflect restore, many years ago replacing HD. ps, damn, how time dissolves quickly...
  9. Time for a journey away from this tormented planet :O) David Helpling and Jon Jenkins - The Crossing
  10. ^^^ ltsc 2019 seems to always go clear of any problems :O)
  11. Metal with many good twists. And a lively drummer :O) Stoned Ghost - Omen
  12. Vivaldi updates stopped long ago. FF went to esr. Defender not updated for a while. Time is gradually chewing bits off 8.1, 10 LTSC when it's time (if the laptop still works).
  13. Seems like the end of Defender, last update I got was 19 july. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/products/windows-defender-for-windows-8-and-81
  14. Now maybe facing this lol++ Microsoft owns the trademark to the letter "X" in a variety of classes, including computer software, computer hardware, and telecommunications. This means that Microsoft has the exclusive right to use the letter "X" in connection with these products and services. The trademark was first registered in 1994, and it has been renewed several times since then. It is currently valid until 2034. https://www.ghacks.net/2023/07/25/microsoft-x-trademark-twitter-rename/
  15. No doubt, twitter is being demolished :O)
  16. Time to leave this disjointed planet for a while... In The Branches' etheral and celestial guitar :O)
  17. Thanks, a good overview which pointed me towards more reading (found good Dell pages about just this), and will go ahead when feeling well prepared.
  18. A recommended update for tpm available. But... owned \ clear is out of my field of experience :O) What can happen if it's cleared, f.ex. am unsure about interaction with bitlocker partitions. And should it be re-owned (whatever that is) afterwards ? Big mysteries... Thanks for any info.
  19. Today in plain sun. Alpes Maritimes, France.
  20. July update done on Precision. All perfect, seemingly always the case with LTSC.
  21. No end in sight for my Dell 7440 :O) No feeling of, or sign of, insecurity. Nice to see continuous MS defender updates. ps, now 8,5 years with it's original w.8.1 install, never a bluescreen etc, a superb os that was\is. + amazed that the Dell is still behaving like new !
