  1. Hi all, just found the below for our cable build saga. (however the pic shows just the cable so im thinking im missing the interposer board. unless its hidden under the tape / material covers
  2. as we are sourcing only PWM from CPU header (splitting only fan feed on mobo), we see both fans at equal speed, as the tacho pin isnt presented at 2nd fan (3-pin) (mainly due to the fact it confuses the mobo header) so its only CPU (4-pin) fan that would speed up and slow down. I know in GPU-Z it doesnt detect fan speed of either current and the "additional".
  3. if memory recalls i dont think linking the pipes back to GPU copper plate would be efficient, i get the logic of hot running to cold point (fan) though. I always understood heatpipes work best with a temp gradient from one end to other. looping would increase copper mass, you might benefit from two pipes ending up at exhaust grille. just my 2c. Is that a 3d printed fan? i ask as i had sooooo many Ali fans working out which would fit in DVD bay then the headache of supplying different brand fans with HP happy power.
  4. Nice work, Not bad. Thats kinda how i was envisaging my dual fan setup to look like. My version was keeping the fan to GPU pipe but also having the inverse like you have for the GPU to second fan. assume all LMP solder joints there. why no primary fan to GPU plate heatpipe? GPU maybe overloading 2nd fans ability to exhaust heat one question, why not have the 2nd fan nearer the SSD bay? (assume due to heatpipes not working in flipped over layout. Also where is your second fan run from, i see the PWM feed from main fain header, but are you using +5v and gnd from DVD? (as 980M install requires a brutal haircut of the DVD port) i planned on taking feed from USB sub-board (that black plastic covered board bottom right) on the underside how is fan intake working? i have a round hole in my DVD bay floor and a grille in my access panel now 🙂 Regards video output is that via internal display on 980M? which Vbios. How did you bend your heatpipes? Apologies for the critique. love the progress youve made.
  5. if this is anything like the elitebook 8570W misadventure i had when trying to make a GTX 965M work, you have to choose the correct VBios otherwise the machine wont POST. It will fire up but no display output to screen. what Vbios does your Fermi have on it. You might be seeing a misalignment of DP_A, B C etc not being assigned to the display. Try the TechPowerup forum for other versions of Vbios. I know on my machine it only ever came with 3 card options from factory, despite what HP techs said no Whitelist "apparently" existed. Ive seen INF mods needed for some cards too
  6. am i assuming from the diagram above no interposer board is needed? just looking at sources for the cables at present. LVDS elitebook ones seem viable on ebay. is there any IPS displays preferred that fit the 8570W lid best (just to focus searches) Also has anyone got the interposer dreamcolor board cable assembly part number too? @GuitarG i salute your devotion to the cause and effort so far, a shame the 8570W is retired from your flock. Enjoy the next challenge 😉
  7. not to be difficult, UK users cant see IMGUR pictures, so all i see is a blue block. Awesome progress though. Shame the 8570W journey ends. Did anyone uncover the HP LVDS cable pinout diagram? i seem to recall its in an older post (i'll go hunt for it. Happy to try recreate the cable, just need to get a bundle of LDVS to sacrifice 😄
  8. as they are two slots it will be the thin copper sinks, removal of the stickers to maximise contact, underneath set will fair better as they are side by side and have a vent on access door. under keyboard may suffer higher temps.
  9. Yeah I think the sandwich creation is sensible. Although had a (stupid idea) top of 980m cooled by main 8770w sink, and under side cooled by second fan and heat pipe, but they are held together by spider, so allows cooling assembly as two part. there are copper heatsinks for memory on Ali too I noticed so I may try them. Also plan to cool north bridge whilst I’m creating a monster i now have three 8570w sinks in various states of removed parts to work out what fits and can be used in different locations

Hey, Still working on the Access panel vent so the 2nd fan can pull air, but at present its a Type H (fits 470 thru to 590) copper plate (0.5mm thick) from Ali i'm modifying to sit under the card with Upsiren putty to try and clamp via spider (you'll need longer spider too for this) so heat is shared back into the main heatsink. It aint perfect as bolt holes need widening, but its better than hoping the PCB will dissipate heat. will need to Kapton tape the underside to minimise short risk too. But thats the idea im running with at the moment unless anyone has managed a better fix. will find the link and re-edit post shortly https://a.aliexpress.com/_Ewz3iIS is the part I’m modifying as an off the shelf solution (ish) its an evolution of the copper plate that KBX did on his 980M install but trying to keep as an sandwich assembly (hopefully it wont foul the DVD port too, although i suspect it will, so DVD port will require a trim )
  11. That backlight mod would still limit card options no? current non-DC screens have a 980M limit. if the backlight mod allows greater / newer options then that could give a pathway.
  12. Maybe I'm thinking about this wrong (wouldnt be the first) but if one was good enough at micro soldering and cut the right traces couldnt we make the cables were trying to build work at the board level? i mean its alot of work, but a question is free......
  13. @JadeRover so if i understand/read that correctly, that Vbios build makes 1070M work on a Non-DC enabled 8570W? cool news if it does. hadnt stumbled on that post before i got my 980M (d'oh) time to search for a 1070M then 😉 for the next upgrade stage. Until the cable saga is resolved the RTX cards will have to wait.
  14. Full copper GPU sink would be the way to go. Ive seen some machined ones, but never any OEM. They seem to like the Alu / berylium things we see in our machines, which are a pig to use LMP solder too. A couple of my heatsinks dissasembled at points i didnt want to undo before the point i needed came apart. KBX is working on a 1070m but hes hitting DC issues too, card works but only via DP. That said his H/sink is different to the 980M as chip heights so i dont know if there is another plate available, unless you scour Ali/Google for a 1070 sink from another manafacturer and decouple the GPU. 9xx is best for 8570W / 8770W ( well was in OEM spec) our crazy minds have gone a little bit further than that here
  15. Welcome MODDER1, good to see your on the similar journey. SSD's definitely help the machine catchup to newer generations. Currently running 1TB samsung Sata SSD in mine with a 500gb Msata secondary drive. i do run the i7-3940XM CPU with my current k1000M GPU. I have the 980M SLI (same as KBX on here) card ready to go in, but am currently working on Chassis mods to allow dual fans (980M is a hot beast) to get the heat away so not yet running the card (KBX has his running and working on 1070M). The 980M mod requires the 8770W sink mod as its a "B" card and 8570W only ever shipped with "A" cards from HP, so to go 980M or any more powerful card you'll be collecting alot of parts 🙂 The 980M is the best you'll get without dreamcolour screens, others on this post have DC screens and have done more awesome mods and more powerful cards.
  16. Hi All, Another 8570W user here, Whilst not running Dreamcolor i have a Win10 build with K1000M (being upgraded to 980M) currently running .71Ver System bios. How difficult was win11 to get onto the machine as i recall TPM scuppers the build/install. Where did you find the Dreamcolour setup?
  17. Hiya Dink, glad your on the path to get it sorted. Yeah SSD on the 8570W's really improves things, i have a samsung Evo 1TB SSD on it now going from an 500GB HDD, really moved faster. maxed it out with a i7-3940XM. Agree the older smaller cards do just plod along, currently trying to get the 980M from SuperMG working at present to give it more life. I get the image display errors too, thought it was only me. Also in UK too, so its not just you.
  18. @Dink Damn you got a DC screen, you lucky soul. I wonder if the invertor under the screen area needs a heatsink of sorts as it seems to run hot. That said an AMD card shouldnt push it too much, heck even the M3000M should be fine. IIRC, the dell Bios are more amenable to our machines, as @JadeRover mentions seem to be more usable, the 980M i got from SuperMG on here has it i think as the card came from a 6700, so hoping i get lucky and get POST displayed. If you do get POST then at least you can flash a new VBios via NVflash, otherwise its oldskool via CH341A (which im not looking forwards to as its not 100% successful)
  19. With the Zbook, arent they "different" Dreamcolor boards so could be a different issue? how the output is displayed? if I recall, Zbook G5 are P/N L28742-001 (been trawling the heck out of HP manuals lately to find P/N for the 8570W ( i find 653278-001 or 690626-001) for ours.
  20. Welcome Dink, glad to have you here, as someone who had similar fun when i tried to upgrade to a 965M card, i too got no POST, just a blank screen, its sounding like your VBIOS isnt correct. If the older card you had in previously worked then the system Bios should be ok. I too have .71 advised by HP when i upgraded, that said others on here run earlier system bios versions. KBX on here runs a 980M but with a earlier SBIOS. if you can get output on any (VGA/DP/main screen you can use NVflash) if not then worth trying either a CH314A USB flash tool or find another machine which has IntelGPU so you can get an output. Unfortunately the 8770 and 8570W cant run intel's IGPU as no pins from CPU even though the CPU has it built. I'm running a k1000M but tried a 965M before going down the 980M SLI path.

No worries, i know Bios (.71) doesnt have OC options or an advanced setting page 😞 , not sure if CPU boost apps allow OC or MSI overclock for GPU) seen a few 1866 pop up since RAM got uber expensive. 2133 exist but not seen any for sale. would 2133 make a noticeable difference? i mean proper 1866 aint that bad. Did anyone manage to get Coreboot working (and did it unlock anything not already available in HP's version) , i know there was a 8770W build.
  22. @Vladka76 seen some apparently genuine 1866 hyperx sticks, never tracked down 2133 ones, not seen one in the wild (yet). Did you OC your 1866 ones to hit 2133?
  23. @GuitarG interesting to see the zbook units can work, although we hit the same cable problem. That said could we run the IPS version (dreamcolour equivalent) of whatever the zbooks have? Assuming Zbook cables are more plentiful of course. RE: Cooling can never have enough fins. Plan to run two fans (basically 2 8570W fan assemblies "with fins 🙂 " , just one flipped to point back towards GPU) similar to your idea earlier in post. May unsolder the big heatpipe arm and try a custom shape or other machine heatpipe that fits (worst case raid Aliexpress for straight pipes (i know sintered ones are best). once i have that it will be multiple to take either heat from CPU/GPU sources. intake will be via hole in DVD Bay chassis and a custom access panel vent then exhaust out a DVD drive cover with vent holes. Also looking at custom GPU spiders as 980M has VRAM underneath which doesnt connect to spider to remove heat, just the copper pads on the Mobo. Will share designs / parts used etc so anyone on here can duplicate as required.
  24. Nice work @GuitarG. Did you manage to get the Zbook board working in the 8770W? curious if we can run that instead in the 8570W. re; USB port feed for secondary fan. as you know i modified a standard JST extension lead to redirect +5v and GND, tested outside of laptop (just ran a USB fly lead from USB power bank to test fan running, then took same tails and via multimeter tested same points on the USB sub-board (black & yellow tails now removed to stop shorts). so in theory the fan should spin on its own ( no speed control), then if i split the JST feed from CPU the red PWM wire (only one coming from the Mobo) should copy the CPU fan speed. Rest of the upgrade is mechanical getting GPU plate in right location, fan can stay unplugged for POST test and once i have working internal panel display, then will replan the DVD bay's real estate 🙂 More copper heat-pipes planned to bridge GPU to second fan cowl in DVD bay. will share more pics in situ.
  25. @loopster do you happen to have the part numbers for your DC screen setup? I’m currently assembling a 980m upgrade as that’s the final GPU that works on non-Dc setup. I’d love to upgrade to IPS screen with the interposer board.
