Excellent. I am excited to get this going, but i'll still have to wait a month or two. Do you think a i5 13th gen is good enough for 4k/60 for the next 4 years(not being the bottleneck) im behind on desktop knowledge when it comes to cpus also. on the laptop side 8 cores 16 threads is long in the tooth i will likely need fast(4-4.5ghz) 12-16 cores. -

I would like to build it my self, Its just that buying all the parts one by one then putting it together, I have no idea if all the parts will be compatible and fit, I literally know next to nothing about desktop building, my last desktop was back in 2002 alot has changed alot has not. Im leaning towards buying it bit by bit and agree thats part of the fun, lol all fun and games until something explodes. I just get paranoid and don't have much money to risk. Im looking for work and might get back into trading stocks. Prebuilts are affordable and thats basically it, no other reason to buy one. I want a 4080 laptop but at 4grand I would rather have a 4090 system and although GFN is slick with its 4080 power it just looks and feels off after a few hours into gaming, the glitches with graphics and latency is a pain and its only useful at 1080p/1440p. If gfn ends up improving 4k then I will likely stick to that for my casual gaming hobby but the itch to benchmark new hardware and be on the bleeding edge is still a priority. -

I enjoy benchmarking, and yes Geforce Now isn't quite there yet with 4k, I was hoping to get a system with a decent gpu(3060ti-6800xt) and a good cpu then upgrade to a 4090 down the line, I'm not a huge gamer but enjoy gaming once in a while and would like to run horizon 5 and motorsport at 4k with decent settings, currently I can only run 1080p at 30 fps in motorsport and 4k-medium at 50fps in horizon 5 with my 3060, It's mainly the Vram as my bottleneck 9 times out of ten at 4k is the fact it has only 6gb and these games will eat 8-10gb easily. and welcome back. one other big reason for me is the crew motorfest, it runs like dirt on my 3060 at 4k, sure I can tweak settings and get 30fps but this isn't 2007 30fps isn't acceptable or enjoyable. heres the game at 4k on GFN it looks good but is clearly blotchy at a distance -
PC hardware you should avoid. The do not buy list for computer parts.....
ryan replied to Papusan's topic in Desktop Hardware
avoid the MSI gs63vr I had two fans go on it in two months. msi refused a refund. utter garbage, and the reason I avoid MSI even if they do have the odd good product -

these are overclocked but stock a 4080 laptop gets 18 000 a 4090 gets roughly 30 000 because most users apply massive overclocks the disparity looks like quite a bit but in reality stock for stock the difference isnt that big and the fact a laptop 4080 is 60 percent of a 4090 and alot cheaper than a 4090 desktop makes me wonder -

welcome back @Etern4l 🙂 yes prebuilts sometimes can be upgraded, the omens/asus/msi/ect cannot technically be upgraded, but some of the generic name branded ones can, alot of facebook market place ones are generic. no name just built from the ground up but they still hover around 1000. bah getting old 39 yesterday, was my birthday. did nothing. can't wait for 50 haha feels like im 18 mentally due to the illness and the episodes that damage the brain -

no the 4080 is at 18 000 the 4090 is at 30 000 so like 60 percent faster. but the cost of a 4080 laptop is like 70 percent of a 4090 desktop. its all good im getting a desktop either way because you can tinker and upgrade. laptops are unable to be upgraded and mxm is basically dead, i was interested in laptops to begin with becuase of the idea of mxm and i just never swayed away liked the idea of folding and moving it, but after having laptops for 4 years or so i really dont move it anywhere, a tablet and desktop makes the most sense. and yeah i cant find anything better than my laptop in desktop form for less that 1000 prebuilts or as bro @Mr. Fox mentioned used seems to be the way to go, you can get a pretty decent system for alot cheaper than building. I know nothing about desktops and tried building a budget system with memoryexpress and it was north of 1400 whereas a prebuilt with better specs was clocked in around 950-1100 -

yeah the best i can get for 1000 is a 3060 desktop. im going to wait two months or when my accident money comes and just buy then. I should be able to get a decent rig then. would you say a 4080 laptop is a better buy than a 4090 desktop. whats the disparity i dont know off the top of my head. i think a 4080 laptop gets 22000 in time spy and a 4090 30 000 -

welp i have the 1000 for the desktop. so far I found nothing. laptop wise i can get a cheap 4060 laptop which performs similar to a 3070ti but i just dont see why id drop another 1050 for something to go from 60fps-to 90fps not much of a gain as far as experience goes. id be down to get another laptop if i did not have 4 laptops haha. yeah i am debating getting a mini pc with ryzen and just using geforce now or if i can get a 3060ti desktop i will order this second but im unable to find anything. im going to try memoryexpress pc builder. ill report back hopefully the build is ok. like a ryzen 5 or i5 12th gen..ok enough rambling brb 3060ti i5-12th gen are you guys sure desktops are cheaper than laptops? feeling like desktops and laptops did a price reversal recently. https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/lenovo-ideacentre-gaming-5i-desktop-pc-intel-core-i7-12700-1tb-hdd-512gb-ssd-16gb-ram-rtx-3060-eng-only-at-best-buy/16496746 if you guys can find a deal ill pm you something. it has to be better than my laptop and under 950 -

8GBx25 (200GB) DDR4 SODIMMS, any ideas what to do with it?
ryan replied to Reciever's topic in Components & Upgrades
my apartment a few years ago was broken into, lost 25x 8gb ram modules. if I ever catch that person..lol joking. now thats alot of ram I have 64gb and I dont scratch 10gb usage, I think 64gb is even enough for a server. I wonder about virtual machines I might dabble in that -

too bad covid sticks to good people and the like. sorry man. I wish the government designed a virus that stuck to rat feces. alot of people that dont deserve breath might get the right medicine. its terrible all thats going on around the world like covid and global warming(if its true). frustrating wanting to help but nothing I can do. if we all do one kind thing each day and it caught on like the movie pay it forward we would all be much better off and the world more balanced. N on topic. I downloaded the newest nvidia drivers and im getting a nice bump in timespy 50 points. its good in games and about the same in benchmarks. also one last thing someones hacked amd frame generation and DLSS. you can now get DLSS 3 with 2k and 3k gpus in some games. @tps3443 and myself will benefit, will have to see if its available for starfield that janktops palm area hit 55c yikes. I don't think its more useful than a space heater and a minesweeper gaming replacement. when I see a 0.5in thick laptop with intel xe running project cars 2 without thermal throttling its always an indicator or genius engineering. however this does not exist. the geniuses are holding out ...as they push laptops thinner 0.3in -

just running through all the options, and at 1900 cad I can get a i7-13700ks and a770 desktop but for the same price i could do better with a laptop? why are laptops cheaper than desktops? -
is 1080 sli your main rig, if so thats been a pretty beefy setup for quite some time. sometimes I think it's worth it getting the best single or dual gpu setup as it will be able to rock games for years. this or I should say now last gen I went with the 3060 and its getting weak in the knees with 4k gaming(low-30) but at 1080p and 1440p it's still a beast. I have it hooked up to my 4k tv so naturally I want to do 4k gaming but I guess ill just have to bite the bullet and stick with it for another few years or jump ship to desktop or get a 5090 laptop. thoughts?

in canada we have a site called memoryexpress.com and they let you individually pick the parts then they build it and ship it for 100. I was thinking of going this route and might just snag a A770. I like dlss though as well as RTX not sure how it fares in RTX. also should I get a i7 13700ks or would any i5 be fine -
yeah, not much going on HW wise for many people, Mr fox hasn't upgraded yet either. Im looking into getting a desktop but gaming wise as I don't run a multimedia site lol is not exactly a priority because theres like 2 good games being released a year. if it was like the SNES days i'd be all over it and own a 4090 rig. Also thank you for your contributions to the AI thread, I learned alot. at first I was thinking tin foil hat. Now im moved to think this is a real threat, amazing what a few nudges can do.

I bought a hp laptop from the local shop a few years ago it was 200. then a chromebook for a pool game I like. then a tablet (fire 10 2nd gen) for real racing 3. and since i found geforce now viable for the little gaming I do a OLED laptop. and my gaming laptop for???? no reason in owning it hence why its for sale. times change I have what I need I dont have anything that is collecting dust except the 250 dollar hp laptop that I use with my 3d tv for imax 3d movies. half the laptops in my sig were returned or sold. 2 laptops once this hp gaming laptop is sold isn't exactly hoarding. you guys have 1 desktop? -

yeah like its worth 800usd with 1 tb and 16 gb. bump that up to 3tb and 64gb ram and mint condition and i don't even get 1 view. i think i could sell it for 400cad but why, i cant get anything close for 400. ah well I was hoping to save up some money ill see what happens with the lawyer. could be good, ill likely take a settlement over a proceeding. yeah it shook me pretty violently never been in a crash, i was dis-orientated and hurt because of someones poor judgement. when I get a replacement vehicle i'll be alot more of a defensive driver moving forwards, 60-0 sucks. thanks for the kind words. on a happy note its out of stock but it looks like best buy is selling a 3060ti desktop for around 1000 just have to wait for stock. i'd be pretty excited to get a desktop. found this for 1300 https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/refurbished-excellent-dell-xps-8960-nvidia-rtx-3060ti-intel-i7-13700-32gb-ddr5-1tb-ssd-win-11-home/17542588 its not too shabby as a first gaming desktop. I would slowly upgrade the parts. gpu first then cpu ect. -

haha @Papusan @Mr. Fox im trying, I bought the oled laptop as my main driver and can't even sell my omen for 1000. no one wants it, I guess I could try ebay people pay insane prices for 3tb and 64gb of ram but im not interested in shisting anyone. just want a decent amount or there's no point. I was in a car accident and might be getting some money from that but who knows how long that will take, i might have to wait 2-3 weeks for the vehicle compensation but the slight injuries could take years, see a liar on the 3rd
