On 11/19/2023 at 12:04 AM, Mr. Fox said:Joofus the Doofus is such a belligerent douche bag... sheesh. Although I agree with his conclusions, I can think of better ways of approaching the subject. I guess he likes stirring the pot and making people have a dim view of him.
yeah i saw that vid today, as well. tbh, i dont agree with his conclusions, at all. he basically cant decide what his message is, aside from dumping on other creators to push his own "commmunity driven" agenda of offering his way too expensive services to his subscribers.
this based on the following points:
- hes criticizing Igor's lab (actually not done by Igor himself in this case) for pushing 1.6 V through the utilized DIMMs during IMC testing. his argument: XMP only needs 1.45V!
check a recent video he made on XMP profiles, his message: XMP for 8000 only works like 5% of the time! sooo, which is it? follow XMP or not?
- hes dumping on the approach of only increasing the vDIMM to 1.6V and leaving everything else on auto. well duh, of course a manual tune brings better results. but this is to get a rough overview on IMC differences of countless cpus to compare 13th and 14th gen. so leaving mobo, dimms and settings the same, this is a valid testing base to check for any differences in IMC performance, with the cpu being the only variable left here.
- based on the previous two points: hes offering those mobo/cpu/ram bundles for 1000 USD "tuning fee" plus hardware cost. at the same time hes dumping on others for not doing full proper manual tuning when trying to compare a shitton of cpus with each other. then he says XMP only needs 1.45 VDimm, so that means u CAN trust XMP right? soooo if tuning is "so simple" then why charge 1000 USD for his bundles? he lists 6 out of his 9 bundles reaching DDR5-8000+, sooo whats the conclusion here? IS IT so easy, then why charge 1000 USD? is it NOT that easy so then why dump on others for going a quick route for comparison purposes?
- hes previously stated that DDR5 tuning is quite complex and not straight forward, especially vs. previous DDR4 tuning. and even after 1-2 years of tuning and learning hes still learning new stuff regarding DDR5. so basically, DDR5 tuning is hard from his perspective. so far so good. at the same time hes dumping on AMD X3D chips for the "complexity" to get them working properly (i.e. installing X3D driver or using process lasso to make sure the VCache die is utilized in games or other cache sensitive apps). basically stating that u cant offer this kinda hardware to the mainsteam masses, cuz its too "hard" to get it working.
compare that to him making fun of basically everyone else for not being "in the know" and "too mainstream" or superficial when it comes to hardware tuning.
so which is it, Joofus? is hardware tuning easy and u recommend ur "ocmmunity" to go the easy route? or are you and your commmunity "in the know" and everyone else is too stooopid and mainstream superficial for tuning stuff?
there are also other points where he constantly contradicts himself. the only commonality i can make out is
1) to make himself look good
2) make other tech creators look bad / unknowledgeable at best / spreading intentional misinformation at worst
3) based on 1+2), advertize his overpaid "consultation" services
4) advertize his discord server, which u can only join by entering a subscription, shocker!
so yeah...his vids are entertaining, but his way of going about things is dubious at best. this whole "im the specialized underdog, community first! dont trust the techtuber oligarchy"" has been used soooooooooooo many times in all kinda fields, including politics, religion, business....i mean, cmon, enough already. we get it. u want to push ur channel 🙂 so just say so but save on those theatrics.
aight, enough ranting! back to playing some Control, loving this game! 😄
also done with DDR5-7600 tuning, only need to lower the voltages now. next step, taking another shot at 8000!

Keep an eye on it, maybe the reduction will be bigger late in the week.
Yeah storage i think got to the low price atm, maybe when Pcie gen 5 will be more mainstream we will see new lows.

Yes, i try a lot of Price errors, but everytime i get a mail that it was an error and they cannot send the item. This time worked 😄
Also its Black Week on Amazon i got a new SSD for the Laptop, the WD 735 that is inside an X4 but with speeds of X3..🫠
Got this to replace it and, the one inside will go in the second slot.
good timing to buy storage atm, prices arent expected to drop, let alone stabilize anytime soon...
currently on the lookout for a Samsung 870 QVO 8TB for my lady, shes in dire need of more space! speed isnt paramount here, since its mostly media stuff like pics n vids. so QLC should be fine, main thing is maximized space 🙂
i for one should be good for another couple of years with my current 24 TB SSD setup 😄

Here is more pictures for the pict jockey @electrosoft😀 Say hello to the MSI GeForce GTX 960 GAMING 100ME (Limited Edition) for my GPU collection. Fancy Green and I mean it have Samsung vram. I paid 200,- or $18.29 USD for this limited beauty so not a huge loss if it fails. And the card have still the void sticker on one of the screws so it probably need a re-paste. The nice part, this card come with a backplate opposite to the more vanilla (MSI) GTX 960 cards. Fantastic that MSI could afford that.
Here's the thing... I always try go the cheapo route if I can. No in Hell I would pay $150 USD as this stupid want for his 8 years old green goblin Edition on ebay. So no difference than with newer cards. No in hell I would paid I cent above $700 for Nvidia's $1199 4080 Scam.
Edit. Yup, never re-pasted. Same old dryed out stamp as most of the OEM prefer to use. And no thermal pads for the vram. Can't be cheaper doing it this way....
the green looks kinda "wrong" after being used to the classic red n black form the 900 series era 😄 how will you apply the thermal pads on the vram without them getting squished into the heatsink fins of the cooler?

Finally i got lucky with a price error in internet! Christmas came early for me. I had on my ebay watch list some Asus laptops from Asus store and they were doing some promotions for 2% 3% and so on and getting notifications about them on my phone, and after those notifications came a third from an Asus Zephyrus G15, and after some 10 seconds i see the price at 729 Euro, i didnt belive my eyes and opened the Ebay app and i see that price again and if i want to approve the Offer. I didnt think about it i just clicked approve and right away after i also paid in full. The guys at Asus or the ebay shop instead of reducing the price from 1800 Euro to 1729 they forgot to put a 1 in front so the price was only 729! I thought they will never deliver and just cancel the invoice like everybody does when a price error is but today the package came and wenn i opened the Notebook was inside with a invoice for 729 EUR.
So i got a Asus G15 2022 with R9 6900HS 32 GB Ram and a 3080! with 240 HZ for 729 euro instead of 1729! Im happy and i suppose ill sell my Z13 Flow and make some money aswell at the end! Its in white instead of black like it was advertised but i cant complain😀hahaha i guess the wrong color choice is a small price to pay for such a steal! nicely done!

Checked a bit more. There is a few big retail shops that have lots of 4090's. +50 cards of some models. So not a real 4090 shortage here home.
See this one.... One of the cheapest 4090 you'll get here. MSI GeForce RTX 4090 VENTUS 3X OC. I converted NOK to USD. And removed the nice Norwegian 25% VAT. So $1,541.24 USD or below MSRP without taxes.
still broad availability of 4090s in central europe, however prices are creeping up considerably. whereas before you could get your hands on a basic 4090 model at sub 1600€ (incl. tax), ure now looking at roughly 1850+€, with rising tendency...

I'll be curious to see how the 13900ks + tuned 8000 DDR5 performs as I'll end up swapping my 4090 and 7900xtx back and forth between both systems to really get a good set of data to see.
He talks about the "AMD Dip" but it isn't the same "dip" he was talking about with AM4 where frame rates would tank. This is a ~10% drop in 1% and .01% vs Intel without that brutal chunk AM4 gave which was painful. I did experience the "dip" on AM4 in WoW in Raids (most CPU intensive part of WoW with all that player data) with my 5800X and it was brutal when it would hit. I have never experienced that dip with AM5 with countless hours logged in WoW and FO76.
I also think he is not so subtly pushing his services to sell high end Apex Encore + DDR5 8000 tuned + 14900k combos to "CODbros" which is a $1000 fee + parts. He also gets to conveniently fish for the best gear as it crosses his path. I fully expect him to pop up with a good sample 14900k soon as one hits while he builds these out.
With that being said, I still enjoy his videos. 🙂
iiinteresting take, thx for those infos, had no idea. so much for "being all about the community" and "independent from big brand sponsors" 😛 sure, no need for sponsors if you can suck out the community hahaha

That is not representative of how they compare overall. In many, if not most things, the 7900 XTX trails the 4090 by more than a small margin and trades blows with the 4070 Ti and 4080. If ray tracing is involved, the gap widens further. AMD resolution scaling is less effective and image quality is comparatively poor overall. Nothing comes close to comparing with the 4090 in terms of performance, or being absurdly overpriced.
Everything desirable (high end) that is offered by AMD and NVIDIA is grossly overpriced and, to some degree, similarly overrated. That is why I ordered an Arc A770 to replace the 6900 XT. The superior alternatives are a poor value and too expensive for what you get in return for the money spent.

4090 vs 7900xtx round 2 along with UV vs OC on the 4090 (stock vBIOS)
World of Warcraft out in Ardenweald (Hardest hitting zone still as it pretty much takes the CPU out of the equation) 4k Ultra RT Max. My fps is capped at 143fps.
.950 UV vs 1.1 OC (FPS difference = ~0-3fps avg and 1%)
.950 UV @ 2865mhz
1.1 OC @ 3120mhz
Major difference is with UV my room doesn't turn into a furnace as quickly. 🙂
hmmmm....with a 9% difference in gpu core clocks but basically no difference in resulting fps u might be limited somewhere else, other than the GPU core. have u played around with vRAM or system RAM, see how that impacts your numbers? but yeah in this case it absolutely makes sense to go the UV route 🙂

@jaybee83Yeah for me it has done miracles on my Z13 Flow, especially it has a kill switch to end every ASUS Service crap. In their Wisdom Asus paired the 12700k only with 16 GB soldered.. and i was getting memory stutters because of all that ASUS Crap that was eating memory when i was having Browser opened, teams and playing some diablo 4 at the same time. Also you can control the TDP and Fans better with it.
But even so 16 GB is sometimes to little, im contemplating to sell the Z13 and get a better small factor laptop. Maybe a G14 or the Blade 14, sadly there is no big choice for small factor 14 Inch or less...
this is one of the most annoying factors with current gen laptops: when i was on the lookout to get a new machine for my lady, i had the choice between: 1) socketable cpu paired with socketable DDR4 sodimms, 2) soldered cpu with socketable DDR5 sodimms, or 3) soldered CPU AND RAM. Naturally i went with option 1 and didnt look back 😛
and yeah 16 GB is scratching the limit of what is comfortably doable while being productive these days...

MSI Z790i Edge is a 2 dimm ITX board rated for 8000+ 🙂 The sticks are 2x16GB Hynix 8000 G.Skill.
I do have an older set of 2x32GB 6000 G.Skill A-die in my X670E dialed in at the norma 6000l sweet spot, but I do want to see how far they will go. I'm going to see how far I can boot / post those 8000 sticks in the Edge first then swap over the 6000 A die 2x32 GB and see where they cap out.
I do plan on swapping in my Z790i + 7900xtx as my main rig and see how it fairs too just for fun before moving into ITX adventures 2.0.
looking forward to your X670E results my man 😉 currently dialing in 7600 timings, bandwidth wise im definitely beating my tightened / final 6200 setup, but curious to see if i can also reach similar latencies.
aaaaalso, im noticing during 7600 tightening that i might have to give 8000 ANOTHER go with stability testing. seems like i was too tight on some subtimings haha. still a lot to learn, but making good progress with AM5 🙂

Ok, now it is done. Soaking them in lacquer thinner makes it easy if you can stand the fumes. Once you get the heating blankets off you have to wash them several times to get all of the gummy crap adhesive off of the modules. I had screws that would work for the missing backplate. I can't believe that clown took so long to send the backplate (almost a month) and did not send the screws that I mentioned at least 3 times.
Protected SMDs with Kapton tape.
Had to trim a small amount of material off of the black plastic CPU block bezel in order for it to clear the memory. The water block on the memory was making with it and could not be properly installed until I trimmed it back a tiny bit.
i see you either switched to a HOF 4090 or got ur hands on the special sauce unlocked voltage vbios from Galax 😄

Hey guys, a coworker of mine is going to be building a desktop soon and hes looking at AM5, he's by no means an overclocker, Project Manager by trade and he finds the 7800X3D since its a turn keyish solution and also the 7900 XTX because I think he has the Samsung G9 so hes concerned about being able to get the full offering from the monitor.
I know not all of you are using AM5 but my question is this, what motherboard would you guys recommend? He is looking at ATX and Im waiting to hear back from him about the budget. This will be purchased in the US48, we do have a Microcenter in Dallas within driving distance.
Thanks in advance guys
id say with him being a project manager he should have an unlimited budget 😁 (my wife is a PM as well, so i know what kinda salaries they get hahaha).

Awesome! Love this haha. I'm about to punt my Z690 Dark right out of the window. EVGA is not bringing updated BIOS for 14th gen, and while that isn't a huge loss, it sort of is. It kills some of the resale value, it won't have support in the future for any issues that may arise with future hardware. We had plenty of those with new RTX 4000 series that needed BIOS updates to correct.
I think I'll drive over late tonight or early tomorrow morning to grab one of the few remaining APEX at my second local MC. My closest MC sold out last night. So I gotta drive a tad bit further to get this one.
lucky man, with TWO MCs close by, most others would be happy about one hahaha
shame about EVGA not providing such a basic bios update....i mean, its not like were talking "new" cpus here that need to be supported...

Intel now offering DLC FPS upgrades for their CPUs in the form of Intel APO -- Intel Application Optimizer. Only works on 14th gen i7 and i9 K KF CPUs, ain't that nice? Reminds me of the days when you could buy Intel performance cards in stores to get HT on non HT CPUs lol.
I've tested it in the 2 games they support so far, more 'profiles' to come. Rainbow Six gained 200~ fps for me at 1080p low settings. Went from 667 to 857.
Metro Exodus went from 273 to 339 fps. Like what the heck.
Downloadable FPS, Now I've seen it all. 🤨
https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/intel®-application-optimization/9NZ98VNK5X1S?hl=en-us&gl=US
that just seems wrong. this kinda software optimization shouldnt make such a huge difference, there must be something fishy going on. either the stock windows thread handler is SO BAD for 12-14th gen intel cpus that it leaves 40%+ on the table in terms of performance or there is something else going on in the background (intel not disclosing any details on how this actually works is not helping in this context).
i mean, why would anyone leave so much performance on the table that such an optimization is even necessary?
11 hours ago, electrosoft said:I would not be surprised if they use the traditional holiday buying season coupled with "external reasons" to continue to raise prices on the 4090. They have gone up everywhere on average and plenty of models continue to remain out of stock.
As for the lesser models, in an ideal world to compete effectively, Nvidia would let the normal 4070, 4070ti and 4080 dry up over the holidays and replace them with the Super variants in January at the same or close enough price to increase their value to consumers especially with the 4080 which is the poorest seller out of the new line up and rightfully so. Swap in a Super at the same price with 20gb of memory would immediately create much better value especially against the 7900xtx which is routinely marked down.
Knowing Nvidia though, they will simply offer both and the Super variants will be more......
"4080 Super at $1399....you're welcome! Happy $%*%)(* Holidays %(&%($_)_)$!!"
"Greed.....is good"
what a shit show... prices are almost back to day 1 levels. boy am i glad i got my 4090 right on the spot 😄
welp, looks like i lucked out on the ram front, i can only go up to 7600, which i am currently tightening up and finetuning for minimum voltages. both 7800 and 8000 error out, even with extra loose timings and high voltages. thats aight though, my finalized 6200 profile is roughly 70+% faster than the stock SPD at 4800 (will be sure to post more details on this soon). lets see what the fully tuned 7600 will bring to the table 🙂 im hoping for same latency and a nice bump to bandwidth!
