*Official Benchmark Thread* - Post it here or it didn't happen :D

Thats true but I will be restricted to whats on that platform, Workstations traditionally dont allow overclocking, and this precision (as far as I can tell) follows the trend. Should still allow for me to test hardware without inconveniencing my down time. Basically have had no use for the Precision for over a year until it dawned on me that I should be able to use it for GPU benching, its the system that has a 9800X installed. -

Well worst case scenario it can just be a test best of sorts and get some overclocks dialed in -
Maybe not within, but certainly could have a USB powered 5TB drive affixed outside or perhaps modded to sit within (but still connected via USB)

Hey guys, in terms of GPU benchmarking, would a workstation suffice or would I lose too much points from stepping off a overclockable system? The 10850k system is doing well as a DD but I dont want to tear it down for benching all the time lol, I have a precision 5820-x and was thinking of using that for tuning stuff during the week and OS pruning. I finally have an SLI cable so now I want to get back to GTX 690 SLI, GTX 280 SLI, GTX 295 etc etc -

You have reached your limit of hosted storage 😞 Save the pictures that are valuable and/or clear some of the fudd to make space. Storage the one aspect we are sadly a bit anemic on. I've been too much of a hermit, really need to get back on the forum grind. -
Perhaps I'll have to look at this over time on a case by case basis when governments and technology rub shoulders for what ever reason. That being said the conversation will need to focus on the issue and potential solutions versus party A vs B in relation to who ever likes which party more at a given time. This is proving my point in totality. Tribalistic defense with zero introspection while ignoring points to which you dont wish to defend. This is not productive, unless of course that is the point? The US is not a direct democracy, never has been. Its a constitutional republic, always has been. The only time people complain about the Electoral College is when they dont get the votes, just like the only time people complain about voter reform is when things dont appear to be leaning towards their preferred team. Both teams distort reality to suit their truths. The only difference is the flavor.

I like the TU150 since I could easily fit the NH-D15 CPU cooler and a 3 slot card. At the time I was using the 5700XT, I think its a 2.25 or 2.5 slot card and I had 15mm fans on the bottom bringing air in. Only thing that ruined it was the glass window, didnt allow for any venting.

The only thing I can say as an absolute amateur as to not use more heat than you need for the board, Im interested to see how you do! I also wish that the connection had a larger wall to prevent sag and thus stress to the port itself, usb C become the future, even if USB itself became a mess as a result 😞 -
Im not fond of the idea of a rigid ban on that subject, the issue stems that if its not a rigid ban, then its the opening of the flood gates. This isnt to mean you in particular, but the community as a whole. Which would cause myself and the other moderators (all of which volunteer their spare time) exponentially more work. The mods from NBR have had a mixed reaction as any group would (for how long that forum was running) and I do not wish for moderators to be viewed as adversarial to the members. Why? Moderators at heart, are members too who enjoy spending some time here as a member while also taking care of reports. I would prefer for moderators to be viewed as members who also help in capacities that a normal member doesnt. There were quite a few times where it seemed moderators on NBR were deliberately leading me into infractions as well as subtle to remind me their status. I disapprove of this scenario repeating, explicitly. While I dont always agree, I do enjoy your perspective and as a result believe that I can engage in conversation on topics that we may not see eye to eye on, but the journey there wouldnt leave us with scarred and tending to our wounds. I can also do that with members like @Mr. Foxas I have found he is the type to at the very least engage in conversation as long as his principles are respected. There has been a time or two where I had asked for some topics to be dropped and while he was not happy about it, he did respect my request. There were also times where we simply and vehemently disagreed. Not all conversations will reach a happy ending but none the less perspectives were exchanged. This is a problem. I've been spending some time on how to address this. please do not mistake this as solely a you problem, but a problem with how the subject is engaged in general. For example, I could easily counter this with the fact that Hillary Clinton has claimed that the election was stolen from her for at this point 6 years now. If there were dissenting voices they have long been drowned out in the noise, save for a few who were also accused of being traitors to the US by essentially only on her account. I have yet to see anyone pour the same admonishment her direction as I do for Trump. This isnt about What about-ism, as that argument style annoys me to the high heavens and down into the 9 circles of hell. Now if you identify yourself as a Democrat or a progressive you feel the need to defend yourself and often that means dig your heels in and die on the hill. (Not saying you are, but just by way of thought experiment) This is not productive, it doesnt serve to move the conversation forward and it certainly serves to make sure you identify me as not a member of your group, i.e. ally. To which only continues make you seem irrational, which serves to make me think that of you, and irrational actors rarely make for constructive conversation, and thus the divide increases, perspectives narrow. That, is what I work to fight against on this forum and in my personal, professional life. I work to bring out the best I can from those whom I associate with. I take pain staking measures to navigate the spaces between because I do wish for exposure to as many perspectives as I can, and in turn I share my genuine opinions as well as trade craft. I personally believe that both sides of the isle need each other to truly be a benefit to the citizenry. The right traditionally reminds everyone what works and where the line is while the left generally pointed out the exceptions that the current paradigm suits ill. its up to both leanings to come together to work out how to make changes in the mechanisms that form our government to suit everyone that it can. These days I dont really see much of that on either side of the isle. I do not care in the slightest what LTT does with their forums. Swearing is lazy, just as I have opined previously, spend the time to articulate your message and the community will engage. I want this forum to flourish for all ages, if a child were to come to me asking for advise I would do so in a manner to which the success of said childs' goal is increased. Imagine a young fellow making a thread in the WLSIB sub-forum, following all the rules of the forum in the process only to have half the membership respond with expletives. Now have that child show his or her parents the supporting arguments for and against a select list of options presented, exactly how much merit do you think is lost in the choice of language alone regardless of content therein? Perhaps now instead of getting the best possible performance for the dollar said child has to settle for what ever was at the WalMart local store? I am a heavy proponent of the Professionalism Initiative that OCN once enforced (no idea if its still present), while its not something that I explicitly force our membership to adhere to, it is, generally speaking my starting point. It is the reason why I hedge nearly all statements I make, as I am confident in many things there is a vast chasm for which I am wholesomely in totality, ignorant. I can say this much, Freedom of Speech is far from free. Unfortunately, you do not follow the rules that are on the books, adding a second set of rules for another topic or portion of the forum is not something I can see as viable at this point and time. Your critics of rules have been far from decent, often directed at anyone but myself where on most forums merely discussing ToS is against ToS. The bottom line is this, and I do mean this in explicit terms, this forum will not serve as means for tribal arguments to take place. This is a place for people of various backgrounds to coalesce, share experiences, and enhance the communities ability to make the best of their purchases. Whether that means the highest benchmarks, checks the most boxes, a gateway drug for the uninitiated or simply those reaching out for help sourcing a part, a means for troubleshooting or just looking for a community that may suit them. Thats all I got for now.

Well either way I'm sure your friend appreciates it. Still a pretty potent system even today!

I think such a product would be hailed as exciting if its planted into a laptop that could truly push it. What i mean is we more or less have an understanding of how it performs in the desktop arena, so the challenge would be how close could you get it to desktop levels. The issue then comes from its BGA only nature of the industry at the moment, and what to do when the laptop fails during an overclocking session. It feels like an inverted product. Its the high end SKU but also set up on a platform where you dont want to push anything at all. -

I think if they called it a 4080, probably would've been fine at least until people found out it was a 4090 die. -
That doesnt corelate to my upgraded t440p, touchpad doesnt work regardless of driver, kernel, distro. For that system I have long since given up trying to use Linux with it.

Some of you may be aware of Shilka? or at least that was his handle back in the day. Heavy proponent of advising OCN on proper PSU purchases. People used to buy 1000w PSU's for quad core, single GPU systems which was just wasteful. He used to give advise like avoid PSU calculators, they are garbage, and that OEMs is more important than the brand that resells it, 80 Standard is a rubber stamp. Things that are common knowledge (I hope) now but back 10-15 years ago probably wasnt. Corsair reps would often become unprofessional in that sub-forum. Especially when the Rm1000 released, to which it was blasted as a more expensive, and lesser quality to equal priced competitors despite being the "budget" option. Things like "look into the OEM" was treated as a kind of dog whistle for the Reps to criticize as idiotic. The whole thing just felt dishonest. EVGA was much better a product overall, though they arent without their lemons (like every company with some history) Then you have the whole tramp stamp debacle, to which Yellow Beard (Corsair Rep) went on to the war path, it was not pretty. He is now banned or at least deactivated. Top it off with them advertising 16.7 million colors when someone checked the controller it was no where near possible to get that many colors. These days people dont expect it, Corsair started that shopping trend, at least for me. Lastly, they asked OCN for product recommendations. I suggested with how widely well received (though ill advised) CLC CPU coolers had become that its likely there will come a need to supply a demand for 360mm. To which I was told that market doesnt exist and thus would be a waste of time and resources. -

Ah I misunderstood, I thought this would be internal as a supplement PSU, otherwise, why bother? Just get an appropriate PSU 🙂 It was the daily driver system, so mostly just video games. I did bench the 5700xt on it just fine for about 350w through the 8-pin's. I misunderstood the intent here, though this would be internal in the case for the some reason.
