If you are using the default theme the white hand in the bottom right hand of a post is basically not viewable. Its a goof of the forum software in my honest opinion. -
That transition occurred around the time of Haswell, hq (soldered) had replaced mq (socketed) respectively for the CPU SKU

Yes it's been observed on my end as well as the backend. It's going to take some time before we can commit a full dive work/home has been hectic due to power issues up here in dfw. Definitely the weekend is what we're targeting. -
Cheaper and encourages replacing the laptop altogether instead of improving what you have.

Perfect, there was a recent update to the forum software to address some issues but we're still monitoring it all the same. -
This would be most welcome news !

There are still some things that need looking into but its more of a "see where the trend starts" type of metric. Otherwise some updates and maintenance was done to the forum and things should be back to snuff. -
Precision M6800 questions and upgrades
Reciever replied to Jers6410's topic in Precision Mobile Workstation
I mostly only tested to see if it work. It appears that this CPU only tends to work in systems with QM87 chipsets. Didnt work in any system that I had with HM87, so t440p, E5540, m4800 and m6800 were all good. The one thing that I didnt like though, is when taking the CPU out it basically damaged a couple of the pins. Havent used it for any testing since then. I dont recall having any temperature problems though. I might have documented it in my old thread that might be here or in the NBRchive -

While I would welcome that notion, sadly the internet is a giant mass of spam, bots and disagreeable people. Still, carving our small slice of the pie has been an interesting venture :) -

When my colleague has some down time he will look into the forums performance, appears to be a huge uptick in traffic but before we figure out countermeasures we want to know where its coming from. Its probably the first real vacation he's had in 10+ years so I dont want to claw him back unless its something more severe. -
Precision M6800 questions and upgrades

That is not true iirc Ran 32GB in an m6800 with the 4980hq a couple of years ago. 4980hq shines only where L4 cache is utilized. Long since sold the system though so I can't get validation. -

That would be crossposting, which is explicitly not endorsed on the forum :) If you had benched something using that version of OS, it would be more than fine. However there is no mention of benchmarking what so ever, instead pointing to IoT devices. We play it pretty loose here but thats reaching. -
https://store.steampowered.com/app/489630/Warhammer_40000_Gladius__Relics_of_War/ Warhammer isnt my cup of tea but it seems to have a big following. Enjoy!

The sluggish response of the forum has been observed on my end as well, will reach out to Hiew when he gets back from visiting his family. Also that link should go in the Win11 thread -

Its due to those horror stories that I dont personally use Biometrics on my cellular. With enough time and effort anything or anyone can be compromised of course, but it just doesnt sit well with me. -

Thats true, but ever since reading this horror story its been something on my checklist to look for. https://www.overclock.net/threads/xfx-790i-ultra-rma-bent-worse-than-my-a-key-finger-56k-warning.783513/?nested_view=1&sortby=oldest Mine does have something of a backplate but in that corner there is no screw to secure that point of the motherboard. If you look at the pic again you will see the slim piece of metal before it and the open air frame. -

Snapshot of the current configuration Birds eye view A much too large NVME heatsink that keeps it running at 32c. I noticed here that the PSB was beginning to bend where the pcie clip is, addressed it later. NVME to PCIE adapter, also put some thermal pads to counter the bending of the PCB from progressing. PCIE extension ribbon, mocking up how I want to mount things. Locking it in, later moved the frame to the end. Now running an ITX motherboard with a spare pcie slot thanks to NVME. How the desk is more or less set up, some cable clean up has been done since then. Nightingale "Doing it Wrong" 5800X3D @ 4.45Ghz Aorus ITX WiFi x570 32GB 3200Mhz 2TB GM7000 (OS + Games) 2TB Micron 1100 (Games) 1TB mSATA to SATA Samsung 860 EVO (Offline Games) RTX 3090 +100c/+1300m NVME to PCIE adapter + Extension PCIE 3.0 ribbon LSI 9300-16i 5x 4TB HDD 2x 3TB HDD 1x 5TB HDD 4x 2TB HDD Everything was plug and play, kind of just happen to have all the right material to make it work out the way I wanted. CPU fans are also pointed inward so as to push air through the NVME heatsink and by extension the 3090 backplate. NVME tends to only sit at 32c and my junction temp (3090) tends to peak around 84-86c. -

Yeah saw that, not a huge fan of FSR / DLSS as it seems to become more and more needed to run higher frame rates on some newer titles. That being said I suppose it could be possible, though Im on ITX, I have extended its potential past what most are willing to tolerate with such a scenario. I'll grab some pictures when I get home later today so you guys can get a laugh or two out of it. Used to have a certain threshold for how my PC's ran, ever since getting the open air rig that @Mr. Fox linked many many moons ago it has uhh, well oyou all will see tonight lol I call it "Doing it Wrong" and @Hiew likes to poke at me saying I play games on a file server. -
With that premise the one thing I really wanted was the Alienware 13 R3 with 7820hx instead of the 7700hq, heck maybe a 8850h and disable the dGPU for eGPU but nothing like that existed or exists. Would've been really cool to see. Older GPU may be similar, that was the main issue @Khenglish ran into with installing desktop GPU vRAM modules to MXM board on the same mod you are referring to IIRC. Love seeing these kinds of mods though!

Half my interest in the 7900 XTX is to play with game streaming on the RTX 3090 @ 4K or other random things that look interesting to do -

I still have my Red Devil 5700 XT, pushed it to match 1080Ti, at least in some synthetics. Keep it as a just a case card as its not really worth the hassle of selling. The System Administrator at work refuses to believe me when I say Asus makes a decent product but their QA is hot garbage. Nonplot twist, he's got quite a few Asus parts for his main rig. -

And my main point, is that they both engage in such behavior when it suits them. GT 730 rebranded from a RT 430 in designation where both Fermi and Kepler share the same product names? :( Cant even say this is a bug fix. -

Lets not pretend that both vendors dont participate in rehashing, rebranding etc etc of their product lineups. 2028 according to that article yikes, looks like thye are going to release something akin to what the 5700xt was. I can grab a 7900 XTX and sit pretty for some time then. -

I cant remember who it was that said this but effectively the idea put forth was that this generations ability to argue without putting the person you are arguing with in the "hate/enemy" category has effectively atrophied. The appears to be more true over time, at least as I continue to observe. Me and you have different viewpoints regarding our use of PC's, just like you may have some differences between yourself and @Papusan in terms of how your approach overclocking, and thats fine. It doesnt need to then become the basis for classifying someone as extreme or beyond recognition. Sometimes a difference is just that, different. It doesnt then automatically mean not worth consideration. I mean, probably here in the next few days ill be posting an update to my desktop scenario to which many at OCN would immediately question why I didnt do X,Y,Z instead of chuckling at making what I have work for me. I have already dubbed it "Doing It Wrong" by my friends if it works out. Basically I have an ITX system with a 1300w PSU and 16 port HBA adapter via NVME lol should be interesting getting the adapter tomorrow. Oh, Im ranting again. I'll stop here for now haha
