  1. Brocade ICX 7250-24P Cables to connect to Serial interface 10Gbps 100' RJ45 18dB Replacement fans Likely to buy a second ICX 7250-24P, 2x 10Gbps SFP transceivers. Going to wait until Black Friday to see what kind of storage I can pick up for my virtual hosts.
  2. Correct, if you are looking for a laptop to build into then you would likely be looking at Clevo P870/P775 if you can find one for a reasonable price.
  3. It looks like my EVGA 1300w G2 gave up the ghost, loud pop and flash. Thankfully though nothing was lost in my PC. Opened an RMA with EVGA and using my SFX 550w PSU to tide me over for a while.
  4. Brocade icx7250 to replace my Cisco 2960x that I originally meant to build into a ccna lab (and never did). It'll be nice to play with some 10Gbps networking. I have 4 work workstations I use for proxmox that I added 10G cards to some time back. Should also let me play with some other things
  5. Some of the details are provided in the first link above :) DaMafiaGamer hasnt been as active lately, I imagine busy with IRL things
  6. There was a daring member of NBR who was gathering the materials to try this but IIRC it was not successful. @DaMafiaGamer Here are some links to old conversations from the NBRchive. https://www.nbrchive.net/xfa/alienware-18-and-m18x.1092/[Research] Retrofitting an eDP display to M18x R2/ https://www.nbrchive.net/xfa/hardware-components-and-aftermarket-upgrades.27/LVDS 40 pin to eDP 40 pin converter/ https://www.nbrchive.net/xfa/hardware-components-and-aftermarket-upgrades.27/LVDS to eDP adapter/
  7. Repasted the 7900 XTX and the HotSpot did drop 20-22c at lower fan speeds, so its an improvement. I suppose the next step would be to figure out the process to flash the "Unleashed" vBIOS of from the Liquid Devil so I can have more power allocation. Seems to be reliably (for now) hitting 2.8Ghz in 4K Baldurs Gate 3. I would like to be able to hold 3Ghz long term not for anything specific other than 3Ghz sounds better than 2.8Ghz, the added FPS would be nice of course. Its likely there might be pump out, but for now I am ok with that since I already have the paste and tend to do quarterly upkeep on my pc since its open air. Sometimes its dusting, sometimes its a heatsink swap, sometimes its a OS reinstall. Im sure you guys can relate, you pull a thread and its not done until you're done.
  8. Should be a lot of fun to see it come together, perhaps a buildlog?
  9. Just going to keep sitting on my 5800X3D for a while. Seems to pair well with the 7900 XTX I have in the few titles I have tried out. Oddly the potential of self hosted game streaming has hit a fever pitch so I may be setting that up this weekend along with my other studies. Like yourself I have been playing with some older hardware for some mildly interesting scenarios. Found a macbook pro 2012 in the closet so I threw manjaro on it. Works fairly well considering its age. Not replacing my daily driver of course (OS) but have to start somewhere.
  10. For the Horizon Forbidden West portion, no idea why they tested there. The starting base in the DLC portion hits orders of magnitude harder on both CPU and GPU.
  11. Thanks. Yeah its been a fun card so far. I could've just bought another RTX 3090 but I didnt want to go through the hassle of hunting for a bargain just to go back to a near 4 year old card. Not wanting to replace my PSU, and given the price point, the 7900 XTX seemed to be the best choice. Not that there is a lot of choices with the current product stacks. For me gaming is primary and benching secondary but regardless of that whining about 100w in a developed country is a bit much. If you are in a country where power isnt reliable or absurdly expensive it makes some sense to whine about it. The problem becomes then why did you buy this card? I asked them the same thing, as there are some definitive red flags for someone trading down. Looks like this guy bought a property and has been renovating it for the better part of a year. Its been taking a bit longer than expected and also has a newborn so its been an overall priority shift from motorcycles, PC's and big trucks to Honda Pilot, civic and getting the house done for the family. He was happy to go from the Red Devil he had to another Red Devil though and we streamed some gameplay and sent each other the SN's of the cards so we both knew what we were getting. EDIT: The one thing I can say though is that the out of box differential between the Core Temp and Hotspot is pretty bad. 65c core temp and 101-105c hotspot. Though I have read that a repaste should fix that, I have some NTH2 so I think I just need to figure out what pads to go with.
  12. That could actually fit in my P750DM-G, heatsink already modded for that orientation :)
  13. Funny how things work out sometimes. Sold the 3090 to float the house until I get paid, get paid and the bank declines my purchase for the PowerColor Red Devil 7900 XTX. I decide to buy a 6900 XT Red Devil and a day later trade it for a 7900 XTX Red Devil. Instead of 1100 after tax from Amazon, out of pocket cost is 700. Which is about what I sold the 3090 for to begin with. I have already downloaded the Liquid Devil vBIOS so I can apply the 550w power limit instead of the 430w this card comes with. Card is of course already overclocked. Power Limit +15 - 3Ghz Core / 2750 memory 32c idle and usually around 50-55c load I do see what people tend to whine about with a 90w idle power consumption. I really dont care about that though Havent ran any benchmarks yet, just enjoying some games on a rare day off since I started the new gig.
  14. It happens, whats more annoying is my bank declining the purchase. I guess I will wait until next week or something. Been pulling near 70 hour weeks since I entered the new position. Maybe I'll look at something else to purchase, been meaning to get a CCNA lab going. Really hate Banks.
  15. The only card I have used from them is the Red Devil 5700 XT and it was a great card. I was saddened to let it go. I replaced the fans on my Taichi 5700 XT with 3x 92mmx45mm fans and still cant get it as cool as a stock Red Devil. Even with max fan speed (basically a friggin jet in terms of noise). Thanks for the info, I was also debating the Sapphire as well but I do have some bias from a well received red devil 5700 XT. Yeah RT isnt something I care about, had it with the 3090 and never used it outside of perhaps 1-2 times for CP2077. I guess I missed out on Microcenter selling the Red Devil 7900 XTX for 800 a couple of months ago, that leaves Amazon for 1K. Im sure I have plenty of other PC stuff I can sell off that I am not using to help offset the cost more than the free OT.
  16. So payroll screwed up and I didn't get paid, had to sell my 3090 to keep the house running. That week was rolled over and treated as OT. Now I'm eyeballing the red devil 7900 xtx. Any reason I should avoid?
  17. That has more to do with using lvds VS the quadro I think. Haven't tested that personally as I used the 1060 and 1070. My temps stayed at 54c with max fan speed with the 5 heatpipe heatsink from ebay. Should be the yellow wire iirc. I used liquid metal once I was done testing, otherwise I used nth1 iirc
  18. 4940mx isnt worth the trouble, silicon lottery was poor for it, 4930mx will do fine. Also if you are using Compal EC via HWInfo64 to force max fan speed then you will lose the GPU fan as a result. I got around this by cutting the control wire and just let the fan run full speed. Otherwise you can alter the fan tables with an MX chip in the unlocked sBIOS iirc. A14+ is a good choice, though there are other options too. Some people install a simple on/off switch for when you want EC to control things and when you want to keep temps as low as possible. If you want to get the max performance from the CPU you will likely need to look at what digits to punch into the bios for forcing max power allowance (that can be later controlled via software if desired). There is also a means to "unlock" the haswell chips to behave like an MX chip as well. I believe there is a thread on the forums for that topic. For best input lag I would recommend PEG mode instead of SG. Happy trials, I had a lot of fun experimenting on my Ranger back when I had it :) Also you signature is way to large, please reduce its footprint to 8 lines.
  19. Didnt know, I use a clear case for my 7 Pro and attach what I want to that, for now a magnet for my car mount. The Texas heat would just make a mess of most adhesives so applying directly to the phone seemed like a non starter.
  20. @Developer79 please dot not triple post. Thanks
