Ubuntu here as well. Not quite 100% qualified for this thread as this is my work ...workstation. Not doing much on it lately except test various GUIs and work on remote kubernetes deployments.

Curious if anyone else here knows this band:

I've been doing something a little different from my usual MO. A friend upgraded to a new Xbox and left his old One S with me. For some context, I'm not a console guy. Never had any, never wanted one. For the past couple weeks I've been playing Diablo 3 on the xbox (I have it on PC as well but never bought any expansion so it's quite limited). Now I've had a chance to see the whole game with all 5 acts. It's a good little pass-time game but nowhere near the league that D2 was in. The story is just stupid and the way they designed the game so bosses can't be farmed anymore is not great. Also having 342 difficulty levels is just silly. Nevertheless I'll keep at it for a while longer... I made myself a really powerful Necromancer and it's somewhat enjoyable. Waiting patiently for the Callisto Protocol. It should be out in a bout a week or so... haven't kept up with the news, just saw some trailers and it looks awesome.

Question for those who played the game... I'm still getting ready to dive in and I'd like to give myself the best chance to get through it all. In know generally in all souls games the build type doesn't matter too much but I have seen some boss fight videos from Elden Ring and I'm slightly worried. I'd like to assume all the rage quits and screaming in youtube videos are fake and only for entertainment purposes, but some of the fights do seem pretty unfair. Having said that, I like OP strength builds with huge weapons, sneaking up on enemies, and one(few) hit kills. Would something like this be viable in Elden Ring? If yes, can I get some tips on what early items to go for? Am I setting myself up for pain with some of the faster bosses?

I found myself caught up in Dark Souls Remastered on the Switch for the last couple days. I don't feel like starting CP2077 and this is sort of taking my mind off Edgerunners for a little while. I'm still amazed how much you can get attached to drawings from a short anime series. Says a lot about the writers. Now that more days passed, I can honestly say no other movie/series had this sort of an impact. Ever. Really... Anyway, I made up a build I always wanted to try. Great Club and lots of strength. Light armor to keep my dodges fast and everything goes splat. I'm a fan of early OP builds so I got the Great Club to +10 before fighting any of the bosses of the area. Nothing comes even close to standing a chance. The gargoyles went down in 2 hits. It was glorious. Then of course the Gaping Dragon kicked my butt... but that's another story, shouldn't have any problems once I remember its patterns.
-
It is interesting and I have a feeling this will keep blowing up even more. I honestly can't think of any other show which brings out emotions on the level this did, let alone an anime series. The more I think about it, the more it feels like a masterpiece. I can't even imagine how will someone who actually is into anime, feel after this... Just look at every single comment on all the videos with that damned song which I now can't stop watching...
-
I would say yes, still worth watching but I may be biased because I like the cyberpunk universe a lot. If you look up any reviews, they'll all say it really is an amazing little series. Personally, if I could go back in time, I'd probably tell "past myself" to just skip it, forget about it and save me the pain...
-
Watch it! I'm also not a fan of anime in general. I think there's only one other series I watched... If you like CB2077 at all, you can't not watch Edgerunners. It's almost like watching a side story in the game. Same setting, same locations, music, sounds... It's not long, 10 episodes of about 20 mins each. The first 4-5 will be quite enjoyable... the rest, well, I won't spoil it but it should be clear that it'll leave you quite sad and empty inside.
-
So did any of you watch Edgerunners? It's really amazing how much impact a short anime series can have... it's been over 24 hours and I'm still crappy, sad, angry, don't feel like playing anything. Really hard to explain, it's not like it wasn't obvious how it would end. I knew it all along yet it still hit like a truck... Am I being crazy?

introduction What web browser are you using, and why?
cucubits replied to Mr. Fox's topic in General Software
Chrome and Firefox. Chrome on my work laptop and Firefox on the personal one. No particular reason for one over the other. I do have a problem with no apparent solution... whatever I do, I end up having way to many open tabs which I don't use and don't want to close either. At one point I was over 100 😲- 158 replies

Quoting myself again but yeah, I was right. I watched Edgerunners today and now I'm both sad and wanna fire up Cyberpunk 2077 and smash...
-
From no ideas what to play, now I'm jumping on the other end... to many options and I want to get in all of them. I just found out that finally there's a mod with flying cars in CP2077. This was probably my main biggest gripe with it... so far into a tech overrun future and no player controlled flying cars. It killed almost all the verticality from exploring the city. Also there's that anime series everyone is talking about now, which I'm sure if I start watching, I'll want to jump back in CP even more.
-
Not sure, I tried to stay away from reviews and walkthroughs but I do know it's very much a souls game, more or less open world and it's huge.
-
I'm working up the courage to start Elden Ring finally... installed it yesterday, haven't fired it up yet. I really should pick up all the souls series again. I only ever finished DS1, with 2 I got close to the end and 3 I stopped at one of the midgame bosses which at that point just seemed impossible.

Heated steering wheel is awesome. It's the first time I have it too and it makes driving in the cold so much more enjoyable. And no, just wearing gloves is not the same (friends keep asking me why don't I just wear gloves). When my hands are cold to begin with, and I take my gloves, they just keep the cold in there, lol

I know this used to be the case and it's what kept me from buying the Standalone for a long time. Looks like it's different now. It was just recently updated and in 2-3 hours last night I didn't run into any weird bugs or crashes. I just kept dying because I'm bad, lol. The interface is still far from intuitive but it's usable and crafting/combining items is easy to pick up. Motion feels a bit better than the A2 mod and running is noticeably faster. Chernarus+ what they call it now is also better. Graphics look much better than what I remembered and it's more dense, more populated areas, more locations. It doesn't feel like a running simulator anymore.

Any DayZ players around here? I was a big fan of DayZ way back when only the Arma2 mod was out. I think I have a few hundred hours with that. Lately I keep finding myself more and more watching random youtube clips of the standalone. It might be time to start messing with it. There seems to be an overwhelming amount of "getting started" websites with tips and help. Mostly I'm looking for some info on how to choose a good server. One thing I do know is that I need to stay away from official servers as everyone says they're full of cheaters. Otherwise, with somewhat limited time to play, I'd look for a high loot PVE server but with no KOS restrictions. This is another thing I learned the hard way, never trust anyone. For every good interaction, another ten will shoot you on sight. Plus I like playing alone anyway.

Well, it looks like ubisoft has officially gone insane. I just found out now they're selling Far Cry 6 "GOTY" edition for $120. That's full retail price for all DLCs on a game that's been out for quite a while now and, more importantly, never actually earned the Game Of The Year title. Almost makes me regret for having bought FC6 when it came out...
-
I just ran into this... a DS1 remake does sound interesting but absolutely not at AAA pricing. If they're this greedy, they're just asking for ppl to resort to ...the P word...
-
I don't believe they mentioned anywhere the location but yeah, that's my feeling too. Some places around the old town even remind me of home (small romanian towns) but the city center looks more like something from germany/austria maybe. Central europe is likely a pretty good approximation on the setting... On another note, the next Plague Tale is about to be released in a few hours. I liked the first one a lot, even though I haven't quite finished it. I did what I do with many games, I played it a lot right until I felt I was close to the end. If my save is still good, I might do it before picking up this one, but I definitely want to play the new one:
-
On another note, I decided to try Metro Exodus. I played it only one time right when it came out. Now with the enhanced edition, it does seem more polished and performance feels much better. It's been a long time and likely some parts will feel like new but I do remember the story and maps pretty well... let's see if it keeps me drawn it to play through it all again. I need a good new singleplayer game already. Oh, and as a "side quest" I finally got homebrew working on my Switch. I'm not too much into consoles but every single one I had, ended up being ...modified. I have to say the Switch gave me the most trouble but after a day of messing with it, it's working.

This was my main gripe with DL2. They had one job. The whole purpose of the game is that everything changes at night, yet in DL2 they turned the "scary-factor" way down. It doesn't get dark enough and the worst part is that volatiles don't free roam anymore. You actually need to trigger a chase event if you want to see them. I remember in DL1 if I was caught out at night, I just ran into a building and hid under a table scared and listening to the volatiles foot steps around... I still enjoyed it a lot, in general I'm a big fan of everything zombies, but after finishing the main story with some side stuff included, I moved on. Oh yeah, I also found it weird how they completely removed guns. It does make sense with the setting being in Europe and guns not so widespread to begin with. It's not so full of nutcases hoarding brass and making their own ammo...
-
With the current reactions available on this forum, limiting this does not make any sense indeed. I'd assume such a limit would make sense if negative reactions exist to avoid mass downvoting and similar stupid feuds.

With new found motivation since I figured out my laptop's problem, I picked up Far Cry 6 again. Turns out I had been pretty close to the end, just a few main story missions. I've been enjoying it a lot over the past couple days and now I just completed the final mission. Finishing games 90% of the time is quite a sad moment, especially if it's a game I enjoy a lot and then it suddenly ends. Usually after the main story is done, I don't keep playing just to finish side stuff. Sometimes I try but most of the times I just start something else. With said that, I'm having a hard time deciding how I feel about FC6. The setting was awesome even if it's the overused tropical island - crazy leader - guerilla army. The main character was great too. Dani fits so well in this whole story. As with almost all of Far Cry games, the main bad guy's character ends up being very... what word to use... interesting. At first you clearly just want to shoot them but eventually they almost sort of grow on you. I actually would've liked to hear more of Castillo's speeches. I wish they'd made more cut-scenes with him. I'm trying to find something good to say about the ending but I can't. The last mission was too easy and apart from the final moments, predictable. There was so much room for huge twists or some other awesome turnout... Even the post credits scene was kind of "meh" and also not unexpected. Thinking back, even the missions throughout the game were less diverse than FC5 for example. One last complaint, I promise. Feels like they haven't done a great job with the balancing. I had the most fun on the starter island and probably something like the first 20% of the game following that. After that it became just too easy. I intentionally kept on only light armor but it was still not too challenging. I know it sounds like lots of negatives but I don't regret a second of it. I honestly enjoyed it all. Loved the music, the cursing, the graphics, the headshots - the most satisfying headshots from any recent game. Not sure what's next. Obviously now I want to go back and play FC5 again... but I did just install Metro Exodus so there's that too.

I don't usually get excited about games this early in their development lifecycle but this one feels different. It may even warrant a topic on its own. https://roadtovostok.com/ "Road to Vostok is a hardcore single-player survival game set in a post-apocalyptic border zone between Finland and Russia. Survive, loot, plan and prepare your way across the Border Zone and enter the Vostok." What's most impressive is that so far all the development was done by one guy. There is already a small playable demo on Steam and I have to say it really hits all the right spots. It looks great, movement just feels right, not too fast, not too clunky. The guns sound good and even the AI looks promising. (hit F1 in game to activate NPC spawner). Hitting shots is satisfying. I spent about 2 hours messing with all the guns and even with this early AI, I keep getting killed from time to time. Check it out, share your thoughts. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1963610/Road_to_Vostok/
