  1. This doesn't look good. PSA: Corrosion Happening on ASUS ROG Z690 Formula VRM Block, Company Remains Silent I've been using the ASUS ROG Z690 Formula motherboard in all my recent CPU water block reviews, and also detailed it here for a specific EK VRM bridge block article. While the board has reached end-of-life status at ASUS internally, the company's customers are only just starting to face problems. The board's unique selling point is that it comes with an optional CrossChill EK III hybrid VRM thermal solution, which is effectively a waterblock for your VRMs to keep them cool at all times. Based on ASUS's official advertisement of "nickel-plated" and EK's involvement, everybody assumed that the material used is nickel-plated copper, but it turns out it's something different, most probably nickel-plated aluminium. This is not the first time that ASUS has failed the material mix in their watercooling products. The first generation ROG Formula motherboard VRM blocks used plated-aluminium that introduced corrosion when added to a watercooling loop that has copper/brass/steel components elsewhere. Mixing metals in a watercooling loop is a bad idea and will result in galvanic corrosion from the different electrochemical potential of the metals. This can result in the block etching off and flakes/chunks getting in the loop to create an increasingly worse reaction with the coolant used. This can lead to blocked channels and even pump failure due to the corroded materials jamming the impeller. Read full story
  2. Thanks. I’ll check when I come home. At least from the store in Sweden which is in E.U land should probably go. But can’t say for 100% sure. What I know. They will most likely get re-stock with 5 or 6 cards on top of the 3 remaining in the end of February. What I don’t like is the return policy for the shop. If you open up the package the 14 days return period is gone. This is my only complaint as it is now. Maybe a Galax thing. They have awful return/warranty policy. And Galax won’t offer warranty/support if their cards is purchased outside their partner shops. At least the shop we talking about here is their partner/retailer.
  3. Good overclocking is important, but for me is the overall quality/second hand value (I own cards many years), and that I don't have to look at fully Gamer kid oriented back plate design important as well. And I will only game at 1440P so the card will stay in the pc box long time so how the cards looks (aesthetics) has to be something I want/or like. The card is glory White, I know but I could risk sit with the White 4090 Strix OC as well if that was the only option here home. Norway is a small country and the different options is very limited. This apply everything from graphics cards to water cooling parts. Not keen pay 25% tax on top of everything I buy because I have to order parts outside Norway if I want something more than what the average joe want
  4. Thanks, both 🙂 Rage, I was never able to get KP cards here home. This is the closest you can come near Evga’s graphics flagship here without having to pay +30% above those living in U.S Its still amaze me that the 4090 HOF cards is impossible get in EU and other big countries/regions but I could find 4, now3 of them in an small webshop shared between Norway/Sveden. This way I don't have to pay 25% tax on top of already disgusting price. The shop is registred in Norway and have to follow Norwegian rules for sales and warranty (5 years free warranty). But as i have said... Getting this card without paying more than what you have to pay in other countries where they don't pay taxes is quite weird. If I could avoid the obligatory Norwegian tax nightmare, this card would cost me right above $2200. And I doubt you could get it at this price point or even lower, as other places like etc EU or U.S. Yep, you are correct bro Fox, but I feel I get some more value back from Galax than from Asus anyway. And this card should be easy to sell in the second hand market later. + I have never looked on cards like 4080 and SKUs below in the 4xxx linup.. Its what it is. This was the only option I had. Paying etc 1500$+ and upwards for a Asus 4080 or equals custom AIC cards would be pure stupidity.
  5. Finally got the shipment of my 4090 HOF card confirmed. They sent it out today. And this will be my first ever HOF card😎 And I have now ordered the second needed 12VHPWR cable form Be Quiet. Bro @Mr. Fox The somewhat special 4090 HOF design is growing on me😎 I think I can handle the weird white design😆 Maybe I should re-name my all Black box to Black&White now, LOOL Could be Galax wanted to be sure the "double chance" of fire introduced by Nvidia could be reduced/eliminated, HaHa And I can put the screen different places in the box. No need to mount the screen directly on the card itself. Fixed magnet fastening on the card. Maybe I should put in the Puke video to show up in the HOF panel?😆 Btw. Found Asus Rog Strix 4090 OC in another Norwegaian webshop. In stock. But more expensive than the 4090 HOF card😵
  6. Thanks bro Electro 🙂 See... Nvidia continue with their screw up if this rumors is correct. The more I see from 4xxx series cards the more I'm sure that the 4090 is the only card worth to buy this gen from Nvidia. Both for performance and for money vs value. When the GeForce RTX 3060 launched with 12GB of video RAM, it was a careful choice made by NVIDIA. Because of that chip's 192-bit memory bus, NVIDIA had the option to launch with either 6GB or 12GB of memory. That led to the awkward situation where the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3070, RTX 3070 Ti, and even the RTX 3080 all had less video memory on board than the 3060. Well, awkwardness continues, apparently, because if kopite7kimi's latest leak is accurate, the GeForce RTX 4060 will have just 8GB of video RAM onboard. 8GB is pervers if the rumors is correct. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Spec Leak Suggests Fully Enabled AD107 With Meager Memory When the GeForce RTX 3060 launched with 12GB of video RAM, it was a careful choice made by NVIDIA. Because of that chip's 192-bit memory bus, NVIDIA had the option to launch with either 6GB or 12GB of memory. Edit. I did a test on my sons machine. First with the native NVMe driver, then installed the custom Samsung drivers I normally use for my computers (see link below). It's within margins of errors but major difference in 4K Random Write performance with the custom driver. And Random 4K is what you should look after, not the useless sky high High Sequential speed numbers meant for bragging. Remember bigger drives normally perform a bit better.
  7. I rarely see this on the old (single card). And most likely a driver that UL don't like for their benchmarks. Pair Microsofts disaster with UL/Futuremark software + newer security patched drivers from Nvidia and it will be complete MESS. He also got... Graphics driver is not approved (What is this?) Edit... GeForce Security Update Driver | 474.11 - NVIDIA Same driver also for Win 8.1
  8. Checked a bit more on the webshop. Added in several 4090 HOF cards to see where the stock ended. 3 cards in stock but if you add the 4th then you have to wait until the 21.02.2023. Nice, I also checked other of Galax/KFA2 partners shops. Nothing in stock. I think the shared shop between Norway/Sveden is the only one have them in stock. 3 cards for the whole EU, LOOL So this looks promising 🙂 And very happy I don't have to deal with this monstrosity😎 Neither do I have to compromise. And I can still have the older 8 pin connectors for my older cards lying inside the chassis without it looking weird/filled up. And yep, I need to bench with gloves now. At least they looks as Black and not White, LOOL
  9. Nice results 🙂 Make an Macrium Reflect backup. Then you can try out the mod Samsung driver. Samsung NVMe Drivers (original and modded) from Win-Raid
  10. Yep, I had a lot fun in th older days before I used the bot. With my not the best English I avoided posting and enjoyed my own scores from Phase cooling etc. Only the last years I dared sign into forums(was afraid people with better English language would have fun with what I wrote).. I have always had my own views on tech/how to do things. Not all handle that. The good thing with the bot... You have older scores saved and lined up the easy way. Fast going back to see what you can do better. Or to compare with your new results. And yep, no point post them vs other places on the web for bragging.... Remember your "half baked" scores posted on the bot is done with ECC Enabled, LOOL No others will Enable this piece of trash tech (for gaming). 99.99% of the time I will run with it Disabled.
  11. Yep, benching should be for fun. Not so much for points. And the ranking have been screwed up many years, so.... and the Globals is only there a very short time. Less people buy high end nowadays and the HW points is in the minimale for this type HW. Not much to lose sleep about, unless you are the one near the top that try sell a product.. Giving something back for what you got for freee.
  12. My best bet... They will only be concerned about the upper end of the leaderboard. If some post bugged scores in the mid/lower stack it will be there until some report it. And I talk about what will happen in the future after 15. Feb. Then we have benches from the not worthy one with valid higher upper scores that will be thrown out from the bot by the chosen one.
  13. Yep, I know. But it will come a flood of them and they will stay there until one some report them or the mod team catch it. The ranking and points will never be correct as it is now with the ECC mess. And buggy drivers/software coming forwards from Nvidia won't make it easier. And for the records... A valid run (ECC Enabled) doesnt atomaticly mean it is valid and will stay on the bot.
  14. One thing for sure... A lots of not valid benchmarks will play havoc on the HW points. It will go up and down as a Yo-yo as the scores jump in. You'll never know if your poins/ranking is corr3ct or not. This one is a couple of days old... https://hwbot.org/submission/5198709_hardwarejiri_3dmark___fire_strike_ultra_geforce_rtx_4090_33382_marks
  15. If I remember correctly I saw glitches like this when I disabled all remaining Nvidia services in task manager. ECC went from Enabled to disabled. Fun times with modern, LOOL if people isn’t aware the bot will be flooded with “correct” scores but not valid due the bot has more restricted rules than the benchmark software companies own rules. nvidia has created a buggy monster. Fun times forwards if they can’t make proper drivers/software. Even funnier if they remove the ECC adjustment in NCP
  16. Yep, ECC Enabled eats some of the vram. A typo above. Write on a phone.
  17. My wife would never ever buy computer parts without asking me what to buy 🙂 Run with GPU-Z in the background. Follow the amount vram. Below 24GB means it’s disabled Enabled.
  18. I wonder how long it will take Microsoft to remove all chances in the OS registry to bypass the watermaks... More users are facing watermarks in Windows 11 Software today 12:34 With the new version, more users who bypass the hardware or security requirements of Windows 11 get a watermark as a reminder.
  19. HeHe. Thanks. The massive glass door on the 1000D is quite dark and I don't have much bling bling lights in there, so I expect it will be of a minor problem. What I need to see in the chassis is only the MB debugger, Aqua Computer high flow NEXT monitoring screen and the screen for the graphics card. The black design theme is still there and won't change much. But I'm not 100% sure they really have the card to send out... Same shop couldn't deliver the MB I ordered for my son last year. Need to see what happens the next days (Can be sure only they send in the tracking shipping label). And I won't order a second 12VHPWR PCI-E ADAPTER CABLE before this is clear. Otherwise I don't have the need for a second cable(all other brands cards have only one power connector). Of course Nvidia CEO hails ChatGPT. This is the ultimate replacement for Miners to be sure they can continue with higher prices vs previous gen cards. Not so sure you are able to find the price bottom in same way as before. They all are damn clever find new ways to keep up prices. https://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-ceo-hails-chatgpt-as-one-of-the-greatest-things-that-has-ever-been-done-for-computing/ And not always you can hear the small latch go in place. A very bad designed connector. And as you can see... Bad design solution also from other well known manufacurers of HW/gears. They all follow same trend down the drain. Maybe Nvidia gave them an tecnical draw how to do it... This is just stupid engineering and design. With a HOF card you would risk double chance of fire (dual 12VHPWR power connectors). Maybe they should implement new fire extinguisher tech for their fantastic engineered HW?😀
  20. You aren't the only one bro John🙂 And Samsung ain't the only company that offer BAD QC and declining quality. Being the Guinea pig for new and modern come at a price. Samsung 990 Pro Firmware Update Addresses Failing SSD Health The update fixes the underlying cause of the rapid health declines, but it's not all good news. https://www.tomshardware.com/news/samsung-990-pro-firmware-update-released-ssd-health Users that applied the 1B2QJXD7 firmware seemingly confirm those comments, with Redditor caixote writing, "The degradation is still the same for me (78%), so I guess this update is a band-aid to not get more degradation than normal." Angry_old_dude hypothesized, "I'm working from the assumption that the accelerated wear is legit. [Assuming] a firmware update can't fix that. All it can do is fix the problem that was causing it. This would also mean that people who have drives with additional wear due to the problem will have to RMA the drive."
  21. One of the reasons. + as bro John said above.... All laptops become more and more crippled/castrated. In the older days you could get real 200W mobile graphics cards that could run above 300W.... Nowadays, power capped down to 150W and the stupid feature +25W dynamic boost if the Cpus run way below its rated PL1/PL2. Dynamic boost/Smartshift feature is a damn bad tech meant to castrate the cooling/cost cuts. I posted some info earlier. One of my post can bee seen here. I made my avatars on basis of this older video. And my avatar is my expression what I feel about new modern laptops. All my avatars is about new and modern disgusting tech. I'm too old dealing with awful engineered laptops. I just can't handle it and I feel sick if I see one.
  22. Me..... Still not opened the package with my new screen (see pict) due me still waiting on Asus 4090 Strix OC..... Me, will never be the 4090 Strix OC (impossible to get, due ordering competition is so hard).... Me checked out other places every day over weeks..... Me, one day I found an other option(see above)..... Me ordered KFA2 4090 HOF (The co-branding of GALAX in EU)..... Me, now have to order the second BE QUIET! 12VHPWR PCI-E ADAPTER CABLE (dual chance for Nvidia connector melting and fire, LOOL). In short.... Me looking on my own self-awareness... Me seeing I'm Klin Kokos, LOOL We have words for this here home bro Fox... "Klin kokos" https://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klin_kokos Translated into English... KOKO Oh' well, Asus lost their chance to get my hard earned money (They reduce inventory to keep up high disgusting prices)and I was forced to spend more than needed ($200). What a game. But in the end, with the Norwegian 25% Tax on top, the HOF card won't be more expensive here home. I don't pay more than what you have to pay in other countries. This is the only good I can say about this purchase. The weird part.... 4090 HOF is almost impossible to get in the whole EU. Being able to get your hands on one here in little Norway is quite interesting. Will believe it when I see the shipping label. This means I will wait ordering the second power connector until I see the shipping label is delivered in my email. Electrosoft, no pict of my all black crocs now, but new pict will come a later day My wife ordered this one. I knew nothing before I woke up and checked the mail 🙂 Second monitor still un-opened.
  23. It seems one of the Norwegian stores have the 4090 HOF from KFA for sales. Have sent a request about this card to the webshop (to be sure they have it in stock, and the info on the page is correct). Will see what they say. $290 $200 above the Asus 4090 Strix OC that I still can't get my hands on. Always sold out (It feels like the damn Notify system and call center has to be broken). And it seems I need to buy a second BE QUIET! 12VHPWR PCI-E ADAPTER CABLE that add 20$ on top🤯 + this HOF card will destroy the "all black" finish😟 KFA2 GeForce RTX™ 4090 HOF
