Obnoxious gmail won't let me login while traveling using various wifi along the way, it's worked a couple of times if I try again and again but sometimes it will just not do it. I'm usually always logged in via a browser on my phone but it doesn't matter. Sometimes I need the full version to get a few things done on the road so it's a total PIA. And yes I'm aware of the 2 step etc verification but don't want it for a bloody email account. I've started using free NON-gmail emails more and more primarily because google IS evil regardless of what their AI bots say. Who the hell are they to tell me where my "normal" location is anyways? Never any problems with gmx or other free email on that account.

Was toying around with this Bloodborne demake but it's not that enjoyable, hopefully it gets ported. https://www.dsogaming.com/news/bloodborne-psx-demake-is-now-available-for-download-on-pc/

What phone are you daily driving currently?
Hertzian56 replied to Katja's topic in Mobile Devices & Gadgets
Surprisingly my a01 just got upgraded to Android 11 OTA, pretty cheap basic phone and it's tracfone, didn't think it would get much support at this late date. Have to play around with it and see if it's better. -
I mean I guess, if you look at a 980m that was a 110-115w at the time, a 1650m beats it afa synthetic benchmarks and is 50w. It also beats the 1060m. So there's definitely progress and possibly with better cooling to get close. To go from that to a 3080m is a HUGE leap though. Yeah I don't think they could ever get to the parity of the 980m/1080m as the desktop versions. https://benchmarks.ul.com/compare/best-gpus?amount=0&sortBy=SCORE&reverseOrder=true&types=MOBILE&minRating=0

https://bestmvno.com/straight-talk/straight-talk-1st-changes-under-verizon-ownership-45-plan-goes-unlimited/ Ive been a basic ST customer for at least a decade and this is worrying. Usually those giants come in and try to squeeze more profit out, less for more to everyone else.

Depends on the level of performance you want, rtx obviously has rt and also dlss of which dlss is the most useful vs rt at xx60 or below levels. Dlss can almost be required in certain games like god of war. 1660 super desktop is roughly equivalent to 2060 90w laptop card in a mux situation minus dlss/rt. If you dont care about those and are a moderate 1080p gamer the 1070 is enough imo im not sure on the prices though a 3060 desktop would cover most bases at a higher cost. A 2060 would be the middle ground of course. As to cpu id go ryzen as they,ve beat intel overall last few years. Id certainly make sure your 1070 is dead first. If device manager sees it its hard to think its dead.

Crysis 3 is a great game but a bit short. I was dabbling in Nobody Saves the World since I liked the devs previous games art style(guacamelee) kind of got stuck though and haven't been back.

On a road trip so I had some stuff on my note 4/A01 ready to go. Watched some of my fav southparks like little crimestoppers, red mans greed, free hat, trapper keeper, such a hilarious show, pretty gross in a lot of places though kind of made me stop after s10 or so. Some fav king of the hill episodes too, a couple of archer favs. quick lite stuff.

MXM, when it was more universal and thus had more used stock available on eb etc was actually pretty decently price, more competition etc GPU failure a pretty big thing and to be able to just swap that out and be able to get one from NON-manufacturer greedy pricing was it's downfall. The bean counters made sure it was phased out. Buy a whole new laptop vs buying components was a much better value but involved less profit for the manufs. Big things are obviously cpu/gpu and they can obviously just put a less powerful desktop i3/i5 with less cores/heat etc in a laptop to have the full socketed versions but won't. It's pretty egregious to get down into soldered RAM. I don't know that I would want to go back to a heavy desktop for a long time if ever really, just doesn't fit my present situation. Obviously disposable tech is much more profitable and that's all that matters to these scum. So I'd say 1. bga cpu/gpu/soldered ram 2. Laptops have less I/O and slow cheap I/O like slow memcard slots etc 3. Design for non-replaceable or hard to replace keyboards and screens in some cases. 3. flimsy builds/less durable for a portable device, needs to be thicker 4. In some cases over aggressive default fan speeds leading to early failure and possibly cpu/gpu frying because of that. 5. Same cooling setups and lack of vapor chambers and other better cooling tech including low quality thermal paste 6. better fan tech/noise reduction. The number order isn't necessarily order of importance but I'd say #1 is really #1.

Finished God of War last night, meh. Still great animations/art though. I wish it was a truly open world like TW3 but it's fine as is. I didn't do any side missions may get to some of them sometime.

Patches are good but over a year after release no MEANINGFUL DLC's for a game like this? I really didn't have too many problems after the first couple of patches finishing the story several times and as many of the side stuff as I could take, MEANINGFUL dlc the only thing that could bring me back. Maybe in another year or two I'd come back and start a new game though.

Not to mention the hypocritical lip service these manufacturers give to green tech, what happens when any of that soldered stuff fails? Yep the old garbage can, back when we had removable modular laptops if one component failed we could get another one and thus didn't just throw the whole thing away. I'm not even confident if you go out of your way to recycle anything that it actually gets recycled, or the movable definition of recycled means selling it to Asia so it can be heated up, releasing all sorts of pollution, so they can extract the precious metals. The rest is buried somewhere. I had a roommate who was deeply into recycling and he showed me that almost everything we think can be recycled, ie put in the blue can, is not actually recyclable, it was an eye opener for me. We also hear about how even recyclable stuff just gets dumped in the same landfill by various civil entities but they of course collect the higher fees for the privilege. Just liars everywhere.

It's annoying that if you notice in the USA pretty much all the major chains have raised prices from 10-45% and we've seen the "inflation" stories in the news all over. Sounds like just a snowjob to me. Inflation has been going on for years and years but it's hidden really, housing alone is a terrible example that's low key. I mean quantitative easing is inflation on a massive scale. The dollar store is now the 1.25$ store now, +25%, oh but they're not changing their name of course. I noticed this first at walmart about 2 months ago usually in the 5-15% range but have noticed in other things I have bought there a 45-100% price hike. I've adjusted in food items going to regular supermarkets which are actually cheaper as well as non food items going to second hand stores. These mega retailers already made huge profits off of the previous prices for years and years especially walmart, the china store, so it's even more egregious. After all the terrible things of the last 2-3 years these guys have no problem further sticking it to everyone.

Precision M4600 Owners Thread
Hertzian56 replied to Hertzian56's topic in Pro Max & Precision Mobile Workstation
The M6700 is the gold standard among the tanks imo, I'm still sad about the terrible bad luck I had with mine, 980m burned out playing Doom Eternal of all games and when I took it out and restarted I had a stray screw in there which I think shorted the mobo, total loss of a masterpiece of a laptop. I had a 3940xm cpu too, at least with these truly fully modular laptops I was able to sell the cpu and get over half what I paid for the base model with a k4000m in it back. Even the burned out 980m went for almost what I paid for it, maybe the buyer was able to fix the burned out cap who knows. That was truly recyclable tech which companies talk about but actually do the opposite: BGA stuff that is disposable and sits in some landfill. Makes them more profit though. -
Thought I'd start a general thread about the m4600, pretty much the same as the rest of the line of that generation of tanks just the different cpu/gpu and etc configurations and sizes. It's a great aspect of these really, I can get an M6600 and a lot of it is interchangeable between the 15/17 all the way up to m6800. When I had an M6700 I could pretty much go back and forth on keyboard, ram, hdd/ssd holders, charger, battery etc built in redundancy. My largest gripe is that if you have a dual core dell locked out more than 8gb of ram or one of the ram slot pairs, of course to solve it is to get a compatible quad cpu but at this point it's not really worth what people are charging for those imo I still use this as a mobile cad/engineering platform for the occasional contract work and it's a great travel laptop because of the tank like durability of these things. I have Win10 LTSC 1809 installed and no problems even with the dual core and 8gb ram. I've got an AMD firepro M4000 in there which was about $20, a huge step up from the original 1000m lowest entry level card. I can play the Witcher 3 at medium/low settings fairly comfortably during normal play, high action and battle sequences I would need to turn it WAY down no doubt. I tried to go up to the M5100 but had no luck getting the right one with the right vbios etc off eb. There are so many excellent games that don't require much horsepower that it's not a problem though.

Everyone, its time to decide our brand!

Idk going back to series I watched to death is interesting because I notice things more rather than just being entertained since I already know the basic story. With Malcolm it comes through as not that great a lot of the time, I mean there is clever writing but the acting seems to be way over the top almost shrieking which kind of grinds on me now. After season 3 it seems to just recycle a lot of stuff and plays itself out, riding the popularity gravy train and there are 7 seasons total, I don't think I can make it through all of that. It's a weird hysterical/bully mother worship thing, buffoon father, scam oriented kids etc You can see the formulaic aspects of the oldest kids adventures outside the main setting, they are clever and funny a lot of the time but it just keeps repeating in new settings every season or so. But I guess most shows rarely end at their best in terms of story.

Everyone, its time to decide our brand!
Hertzian56 replied to Reciever's topic in Internal Announcement Discussion
I can agree a more general name would probably attract more people, maybe have a dedicated NBR thread prominently so refugees that were away during the whole shutdown can see it's a member continuation. Idk though niche sites(and names) are usually better more focused, and obviously the reason so many of us found NBR was search results about notebook issues, it had the deepest catalog of threads with great info. I assume it will take a long time for threads from this site to get a lot of search traffic since it's starting at zero. Hard one really when you think about it. I think a lot of this was discussed in the "is nbr dying" thread, with the move to bga by manufacturers the availability of modular laptops for regular people is almost nothing. Usually the price is not worth it imo for what's available now, if there are any with modern up to date specs. Hm head scratcher, the instinct is usually the best though meaning something reminiscent or relevant to laptops/notebooks. -
Yeah I did that with a few in the past just thought there would be someone in there already or TT would have bought everything close to it to keep copycats out etc
-
When I click on the get this domain link one of the others is notebooksreview.com surprised at how relatively inexpensive it is too. Thought pretty much anything like that would be taken for high ransom prices lol
-
It would be cool if spartan is completely done with it to give or reduced price the domain to this site, no offense but much better name easier to find.
-
I hope we get some of those debloated custom iso's like we got on the nbr win10 ltsc thread, can't remember the guy who did that but it was awesome resource to have.

Godaddy problems from my understanding not sure it'll come back.

Yeah I have also been rewatching the Sopranos on the other side lol

The patches really help with God Of War especially the sharpening which makes it look a lot better for me. It's a cpu heavy game and I wish we could get full screen exclusive mode so I can use DSR for higher resolutions to push it onto the GPU more, at 1080p it's in the +-90% cpu usage and usually around 45% gpu usage, also I get drops down to 45fps low but it's usually at 60 but not really locked plenty of stutter all over thus cpu problem. Even though the memory leak crash is gone it's still in the 7+gb system ram and around 4.5gb vram usage all the time really bad.
