Which type of USB device do you use most often?
Hertzian56 replied to Sandy Bridge's topic in Components & Upgrades
Edit: I guess we're taking the larger side as what he's talking about so selected A. A mix really, my newer extra phone is C, my main phone is the micro c but also is micro b super speed. I have an external disc writer that uses mini A on one side and type B on the other, a real pain to have to keep that specific cable. My WD passports are the micro b super speed to usb A 3.0. My tab 3 is micro c. So micro C is the most used for me. ===The big side on all of them is just standard USB type A which is what pretty much they all are so you may want to qualify your criteria.===== I wouldn't want C-C only, too easy to break off, A has good strength/aspect ratio. I have car chargers that are micro c only and I am glad with micro b super speed I can also just plug in a regular micro c and leave the extra socket empty. Otherwise totally glad that C is like it is, no more having to fumble with which side goes which way, just take devices dying and replaced with C to get totally on that. -
I don't get it either, ok if it's just some non gaming internet/word processing general use system for on the go I can see the battery being important but with a xx60 or above gpu anyone who games would have it plugged in. I guess they've decided that removing a fan would not statistically make much of a difference for the 3 year warranty lifetime all they care about, with all the small print in those warranties it's probably not even more than a year for most things, including a heat related gaming failure. Customer service is useless and just like trying to get an insurance company to pay out, very hard if impossible. I mean if the margins are high enough they'll care but otherwise nah try to get out of it with any bizarre excuse who cares about 100 bad reviews if there are 1000 good ones, the curated review posting/managing AI will just be instructed to bury the bad reviews for 3 months before posting them anyways etc

Yeah recommend the BBC South Pacific doco too, stunning views, truly remote part of the planet with some really unique geography and nice underwater stuff. It's narrated by Cumberbatch I think. Only downside to me for many of them though is the adding on of how they filmed it onto the end of each episode. I'd rather have more show and less of the story of the filming, which is just fluff filler most of the time. Make those optional featurettes like in some of the nature series. Blue Planet 1 is also an all time fav, need to fire that up.

Yeah I was one of those who hated Death Stranding almost from the get go, pretentious annoying cutscenes almost non stop, shrill ad placement in game, story too bizarre for my taste, hands on gameplay was not satisfying at least the hour or two I actually got it. Watched a full replay of MGS4 and it looks like that was similar amount of over curation, MGSV was great but half a game sadly I actually like the short prequel MGZ better so much cool sneaking and a well populated smaller game world. Trying to force myself to continue Anno Mutationem, another section where you have to race some blob over the landscape and I've yet to master it through trial and error. Was looking at Weird West, seems like a cool ISO western themed game I might try. Still kind of went back to Company of Heroes 1 skirmishes but that eats up a lot of time per session which I'm short on right now.

Lol, yeah my guess it's not a thread specifically for that . It's in the context of why you came here imo though.

Well from the gamesradar link in the first post(which has a newest comment from a year ago so it's also outdated) it's way overdue, they extrapolated from previous games and it should have been sometime in 2020(extrapolation is WAY abused in all sorts of statistical and scientific theories, "facts" and "laws" btw). They have some info on Oct 2023 but it's mostly speculation. That online goldmine seems to have led to the long gap and the neglect of single player aspects in GTAV for years. I think GTAV Online could keep going like CS:GO, they might never follow through on any other GTA topline game again. Many gamers now are largely into online only games and it's a constant income stream so from a business standpoint it makes sense to continue that way. It might take a huge fall off of GTAVO to get the push for a new topline GTA. Seems like it would take years more to get it to that breaking point and they keep releasing new online story content to keep it going. Maybe a new series of online large open world crime drama which bleeds off GTAO players could get them going, it's possible from the way the business is now, all buyouts and just a few large syndicates with tons of money to do it. But starting from scratch would also take years for them. I've not heard of anything, but I'm not super up on vg news. They'd be competing with their own IP with a separate new topline GTA game, from some things I heard years ago it makes sense to just have a whole new online city/story line linked/extended to/from 5(duly upgraded graphically etc) so it just becomes one large online game instead of including any standalone SP experience, (which would be a hard pass for me, SP only). They would also keep all the players from GTAVO and just have the new game as an easy paid extension for them, minimal bleed from GTAVO. Also the expectations players would have now for any new top level GTA would be hard to fulfill all at once so gradually upgrading via online features would soften the blow for RS's image. Thankfully there are so many games now that GTA isn't the whale it once was afa our choices of good and great games, especially sp games. Especially older gamers, I don't really feel the need for more GTA, the games so far are enough probably until I move on from vg's or drastically reduce play time to rule out something as large/involved as GTA. It would kind of feel weird playing a game where you shoot, rob, kill, drugs etc just for the fun of it as someone older, idk strange thing to ponder really.

Crysis series has always been lukewarm for me overall, I did replay 2 a while back and it was just ok it was probably better when it first came out and there wasn't an avalanche of games, 3 I keep installed but haven't been back to it since I replayed 2. Obviously the IP can still sell games even if they are just better graphics but overall a downgrade sad how that works, weekend at bernies syndrome for games lol Still as I said it could work well, I'd mention the tomb raider reboots which were overall good and modernized the series. I still play the old school TR classics here and there though.

Pushed through and finished it last night, got the default ending. I've read there are 6 endings discovered so far but I'd bet there are more than that. I remembered I didn't do some of Rani's requests so that's probably why she stopped being available to talk to and she has an ending associated with her, the "moon" ending I think it's called. I have a save backup before the ending sequence I can just swap in instead of ng+ but not in a hurry and you can just keep exploring in free roam after the main story, my ending does change the world a bit but not drastically. From how long does it take I got the average length of about 50hrs but with the trainer it probably cut a good 20hrs out of it. My play style is exploration and some side missions that were easy to figure out. https://howlongtobeat.com/game?id=68151

Really? no more hot swappable usb hdd's? that's a killer, raising prices in an esoteric way, you either have to have all your(really theirs) large files in the "cloud" or buy a larger ssd/nvme no more cheap external spinning hdd connected via usb which I use a lot myself. Thumb drive support I can't see being removed too many people still use them.

The largest benefit I could see would be the better controls and native 6 axis camera. Graphics looked better overall from the videos I saw. Since they've been out forever I already had the original pc ones perma installed with mods that give me the camera/controls, not interested in them just for graphics. They're also way smaller install size etc

I'm about 50hrs into it now, took a break for smaller less time commitment per session games. Well every time I think I've entered the final area it just has more which is good, but I just got through a few cutscenes before entering an old but altered area, in fact the whole map has some alteration to it now, so I'm pretty sure this is the final part. The game prevented fast travel in the previous area which I thought was the final area. I can now fast travel to any part of the map to continue other undone stuff I've discovered. Going back to a few unfinished/not figured out parts which have no real explanation of what to do in game, typical dark souls/fromsoft MO. Going ahead and doing online help to move forward in those cases. It's not too bad since none of them are the main story just extra side stuff., probably for more optional bosses/lore and equipment like the other DS games have. Definitely my GOTY of the games I've played this year.

yeah I think that's the baldwin thing right? Latest in a long line of that in hollywood, just get the book Hollywoood Babylon for more or just search it. Natalie Woods death on a boat out at sea with no repercussions comes to mind. Another weird one is that brandon lee's death on set was never really investigated, mafia thing imo, his dad bruce played a role where he was a famous actor who spoofed his death via blank gun on set to go undercover to get the bad guys. Bruce died mysteriously and I doubt we get even close to the real story, probably mafia thing imo

Watched the bruckheimer/simpson cheesefest Days of Thunder and couldn't resist watching the first/original propaganda cheesefest by the same team, Top Gun, that opening still gets me, totally cool. The small comedy bits throughout both films are memorable and I'm very liable at times to quote them when I'm feeling silly and it works in context. I see the two as really the same film just appropriate substitutes for nascar and naval aviators. Rubbins racing, the need for speed, loving feeling etc lols

The fact that there was no police involvement is just more proof that it was understood by everyone involved to be just acting, like on screen😜 Also even in real life I think someone would have to deliberately file an assault charge most of the time, there might be exceptions where the state steps in. Wills so called rant was pretty bad acting and the people behind looking pretty amused was just more proof. I'm not saying they wouldn't continue the drama with some for show slap on the wrist in some way though. Oscars is just a form of self aggrandizement/promotional thing that's become ritual. They get their ushabtis if they're "in" enough lol So much theater lately, taken as real sadly, on a world scale if you know what I mean lol

Was watching a mix of the attenborough nature docs, a few of my fav planet earths, living planet, life, trials of life. Interesting, great photography and relaxing, to wind down with at night. Planet Earth 2 and beyond have too much cgi/whiplash camera movements and shrill dramatic music etc in them for my taste, granted all of them have out of context stuff that is deceptive ie for a lot of the so called wild plant time lapse shots they actually setup a greenhouse indoors(they show all this in the optional featurettes etc), various forms of ant farm that are presented as wild footage etc I think some of the cloud/tornado/dust/flood/storm shots in all of them are also composite images with cgi to enhance the drama but it gets out of hand around PE2. Life on Earth 1979 and Living Planet 1984 are the most honest ones, less enhancement tech available.

Ironically it's entertaining to see the lengths that various forms of entertainment will go to to get attention/eyeballs, comically what happened last night at the oscars. Obvious staged event if you notice the smiles. I would never give time to it mind you but it showed up in the news feeds today. It's all just entertainment including sports-entertainment which is just as arranged in many cases as anything else as far as drama especially playoff championships. F1 has had that probably since old bernie and his mindset came about and similar like flavio and ron dennis and definitely frank williams and the rest of them.

No it looks amazing and it does look like there's some in game there, many games are specially optimized for consoles so it could even look better on pc if it's ported well. This, and better, should be coming shortly imo with the prices they ask for everything vgame related now, and for a while really. The action sequence is nice and I suspect it's like cp77 screenshots above: a very curated "in game" sequence. What I see of the walking around looks good but not the same as the curated in game car chase. With GTAV graphics mods I think it can look similar in real hands on WALKING around in game, it's about time we get that without tweaks and mods.

Was playing a bit of GTAV lately, still an amazing game and I just have vanilla graphics still looks great to me. I've seen some of those graphics packs and they would be great to have but I'm hesitant with such a large install since so much can go wrong. I tried a reshade in GTA4 a while back which was a pretty easy dragndrop install and it nuked the game, wouldn't start up anymore, so I thought all I'd need to do is delete the files, didn't work it still nuked it, had to reinstall and that's only about 15-20gb game, a 90gb game would be a terrible to have to reinstall not to mention the mods I have installed and working.

I love western themed games, they're relatively rare especially big open world ones so it was a must play. Another great western game is an older one but still great, shooting gallery with a fun story, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger. I got burned out on AC games after almost a year of Origins and Odyssey both perma installs still fun to play.

Was just playing a skirmish map in Company of Heroes 1 last night, easy on the equipment and fan noise while watching something on the external screen. Still one of my all time favs. Tons of free skirmish maps. Anno Mutationem is getting stale and overstaying it's welcome at this point. Still it does have that cool 2d/3d and pixel graphics, feels like Nier Automata a lot of the time but budget also definitely got a lot from cp77, needed to be more metroidvania imo with more straight up gameplay and larger levels, at least you can skip through the dialogue and some cutscenes. They just needed a bit more western game expertise overall imo. Terrible map. etc But I plan on powering through it since I've invested the time. A bit of GTAV, it's been almost 2 years since I fired it up.

Oh sorry I had the wrong address, here's the one I used, way easier than nexus, https://www.gta5-mods.com/ Forgot about menyoo pc trainer, some hilarious options in there. Zombie stuff supposed to be pretty good, NPC riot mode etc I've read the spider man one is cool, not my thing. They seem to have a few superhero mods. The space one is supposed to be cool if an astronaut sim is interesting to you, but those types are usually really involved install or add a lot of GB to the game which I just don't have on my ssd, it's somewhere around 90gb already. And the police one is LSPD which is almost a standalone police game inserted into the existing world, again just not enough room for it. https://www.lcpdfr.com/lspdfr/index/ http://grandtheftspace.com/#!/downloadsPage

Games and other software that really only work on Windows native are the large reason I've never delved too deeply into Linux, the minute it's all there out of the box, for lazy dummys it's goodbye windows. Looks pretty cool, I had problems getting Gears 5 working on windows at first so it's not a surprise on linux. I would suggest moving this thread to the gaming section, really important to get the word out.

Edit: looks like windows install went fine for you so disregard. This might help others though so I'll keep it up. Those temps do spike but the normal operating temps don't look that bad, around 60 from your screenshot probably just loose screws or bad TIM etc I'd just take it apart, repaste, make sure all screws are in place and tight etc We don't know what your ambient is either so it can vary depending on that too. ================= yeah rufus is pretty easy to use but there is an MBR or GPT mode which might make a difference, I can't remember but I think on mine if I tried the default which I think is configured for UEFI systems, it wouldn't work so I changed the setting to MBR and it worked fine. This was all 3 years ago or so. He goes through it at 56 seconds.
