Yeah I don't even think redbox has 4k BD's just 1k ones. I guess they supposedly get 4k via netflix but of course not full bitrate like a 4k bd would have. Since they don't like anything but new stuff and have no taste for classics to watch over there's no point in them buying 4k bds, not really a point in older movies anyways other than they clean them up etc but it's not the same as ones shot in full 1k or full 4k. I gave him a 1k bd a few years ago of The Dark Knight and the Planet Earth 1 series but who knows where those are. They have a regular BD player not a 4k one.

I know there's a huge difference in resolutions/pixels but I was visiting family around the holidays and watched their nice 4k jumbo tv didn't notice a difference from my 45" 1k when normal watching, it was strange. Expected to be wowed but really wasn't. I realize the size and distance make a difference too, sharper at farther away and such for 4k. They have a lot of room, so it is farther away but only by a few feet then my setup. Of course side by side probably see a difference but the source material is the same 1080p, just up-scaling by their tv. And they had no 4k content to watch it was all their tv upscaling normal 1080p content, even the redbox etc my dad loves to spend so much time getting and taking back etc So sad to see so much time wasted on such bad movies though, they always have to watch new movies, not into classics or older stuff and there's just not much new stuff that's good, at least what redbox thinks is good. Black Adam was terrible as expected but you know family duty type of stuff have to watch a few movies I know are going to be bad just to not be accused of being antisocial etc. Gold wasn't too bad though, made little sense of course but at least was not too annoying. And at least the walmart brand or some other off brand I saw lately had a 1080p 35" tv for like 150$ totally fine for a normal sized place, but new houes are huge and anything below 60" in the main room would be laughable, 2 retirees in a brand new jumbo house which only they are going to be in 98% of the time, mmmkay. No family lives less than 230mi away, neither one of us really cares to be around them much either. Aholes for the most part, couldn't get away fast enough.

Lol they'll make a game for anything. Drug Dealer Simulator etc just all looks copy paste by one or two devs out there fishing for cash. Same thing with the UE horror games, wonky all look the same terribly optimized etc

Gateway USA creators series tongfang 2060m i5 10300h
Hertzian56 replied to Hertzian56's topic in Other Manufacturers
Saw a couple of these up on eb for auction finishing at around 400$ good deal, fine cpu for normal use and most gaming, 2060m 90w etc 1080p gaming totally fine. 8gb stick and another 256gb nvme is like 40-50$ total extra. Got a BSOD, can't remember the last time I got one of those not sure what happened all good now though. I've been getting some weird mouse issues here and there sometimes it goes haywire and will start almost doing it's own thing or very delayed input. I have my mouse plugged into the usbc rear port with an adaptor not sure if that's the issue or not, seems like some sort of interference going on. I unplug it when that happens, plug it into a regular usb usually does the trick then later back in the rear slot.- 9 replies

Was thinking of getting back into RDR2 but this time mod up, checked out nexus top files for it and there's def some interesting stuff. Previously just had a couple QOL mods.
-
Huh maybe that's the next game for me forgot about it, although I only saw 13 "top mods" in the section so not a modding friendly game. Already kinda bored of dl2.

DLSS 2 V3.1.1 out today not sure which game this comes from not given so far in the notes. Slap it in cp77 see if it's any different. So far 2.413 is the one I think is best for that game, sharpening works really good had to turn down to 50% from 65 after swapping it in.

Always going to be true though, they're not going to release anything that doesn't obsolete the previous stuff makes sense. We've all had this convo a few times though, just call the mobiles xxxxm or a totally different PN, but related as to generation and capabilities like 300m, 320m etc The vram is particularly egregious as that's needed a lot for higher res gaming to not have 16gb+ desktops and 8gb+ mobiles is just greed. x50m's should have at least 6gb. Ngreedia probably has the next 2 gens at the top level mapped out and mostly done at least theoretically and manufacturing capabilities I'd think, then they manage it downwards to be able to play at 4k/60 w dlss2/3. DLSS3 just there to pad the fps artificially and as I've said elsewhere it's so fast/100fps+ as to not be able to be noticed the artifacting and bad frames w normal human perception. Something wrong w that to me. Tricks are fine but this is different it's right in front of you but you can't notice it easily. I guess dial it up to 1000fps put in subliminals to buy this or that, heck put in ads for all sorts of stuff at a price of course. Stick some racy stuff in there lol

I'm reporting what I DIDn't purchase, was at best buy 12' hdmi cable was like 40$ IIRC, walmart next door 12' hdmi 12.97, 25" hdmi 14.97, 100' hdmi 25$ lol I don't know how BB stays in business, dumb people I guess.

Have been reading, concurrently with the PKD stuff, a book called The Cholesterol Myths by Ravnskov and it's really good didn't think it would grab me as much as it did as he goes through the fallacies and fraud that result in billions for drug makers(and the food industry and the doctors and various testing labs and......) and lots of grief/cost for regular people over largely nothing. He goes through the various studies and their results(largely skewed in favor of heat-diet idea) and the ones that have been ignored that have the "wrong" results. I'm only about 1/3 through but from the various large studies over the decades all over the world the data points to some other cause of CHD than blood cholesterol numbers as a direct cause. They are all over the place with all sorts of diets etc. And one interesting fact he states is that the cholesterol in the food you eat does NOT mean it somehow transfers to your blood ie eating high cholesterol foods, like eggs, does not raise your blood cholesterol as the body manages a steady level in the blood regardless, it adjusts to it's needs. Lifestyle and cultural factors seem to be more important than diet or drugs.

yeah it's nice to have the main story done and just do the new stuff, I was trying out bloody ties but it's really just a glorified gladiator arena stretched too far into some shallow story stuff. Not a big fan of the challenges seems ridiculous when you're in that situation and to throw a gladiator thing in there is just lazy and nonsensical imo But some of the small side missions are fun to explore the world. Edit: also dled one of those 100% saves on nexus for a ng+ at some point.

It's pretty fun now, just had to get back into it really, maybe too much cp77 got me used to it's relative smoothness and of course amazing graphics imo. I do have this on an external 2.5 through a usb3 adapter so not as fast io as cp77 on my second nvme but I have to say everything runs fine now with all the settings adjusted, latest drivers, max perf profile, 60fps limit etc The nanny-ness of techland is really off putting though. I don't need to have popups reminding me of this or that, blocked legendary items for modding, no way to untrack the main quest other than tracking another quest, all the annoying floating icons all over, all the sounds that go along with those, as mentioned the insane npc chatter which is fine for the fist few hours but the repeating stuff over and over, shut up! etc Jerks even patch out some of the mods, what control freaks. Turned off as much as I'm allowed to by jerkland and what mods I could find that still work that go further.

I guess I've been lucky so far, got a matching stick lately and it worked out fine, dual channel mode and all, it was in the crucial package but had been opened, described erroneously as new. A lot of people are NOT experts at the details of ram so it's hard to think this was some intentional scam, ebay has really good options if you are a buyer for sending back easily for a full refund etc Selling on ebay is another story, lots of risk there and I've only sold here and there on eb. Better to get an exact match for the PN of your ram and only search for that number that has a pic showing the exact model number, so no confusion possible. May pay more but you know exactly what you're getting.

Uh well I just went through the "top mods" and "most endorsed" categories on nexus and I don't recall anything that says that in the title of the mod. I know what you mean, CP77 has an exposure mod that I have that aims to fix the autoexposure that CPDR used for that game(and TW3 too btw). I think there's a longer nights or days mod, here's a ss of what I've dled so far, most of those are installed but like I said "I am legion" requires an xx80+ megarig to run smoothly imo once I got rid of that it's smooth with just stutter in places. I highly recommend the AIO No Post effects like flare etc if you want to basically have a sharp clear view, no one walks around in cloudy smeared glasses. Replaced Lawan with a more pleasing model, the easier mod I think has a much faster run and longer jump, one of the grappling hook ones etc The modding is fairly easy but harder to know if your load order would disable new .pak files down the number so they recommend merging them after .7zip extraction, ugh what a pain. I just go dataN+1.pak down the line and see if it works in game if not MAYBE do all the unzipping/merging etc But really for me this only needs QOL annoyance fixing mods so it's not like CP77 where I have hundreds of mods that have tons of game extending aspects. Go ahead and grab a nexus account browse around, free one is good for it all.

btw totally recommend the top mods that take out the lens flare, dirtyness, bloom etc makes it much better. Ez lockpicking, minimize all the qtes, faster run and longer jump, grappling hook better, better weather, turnoff zombie grabbing you, etc

Edit: Ok I think I found out what was causing so much stutter and fps all over the place, it was a huge mod that added a ton to the game but edited almost everything including AI etc took it out and it's much smoother. "I Am Legion reborn" huge mod but you have to have a system that overpowers it, even 3070 owners complained about fps hit, nah gone. Still game takes almost all my system ram 16gb crazy. Eh I played it a ton last year but coming back to it just feels annoying really, a chore/clunky to play. The endless corny npc chatter, in a world which noise attracts zs wouldn't you try to be quiet? Needs a setting for 25% level of the chatter or less. And it's hard to take in high density places, just a terrible cacophony of npc chatter, insanity level stuff. Second when I first start up it has huge stutter and microfreezing then in the world the fps is all over the place I mean I've got mostly med/low with some high but I set it at 900p to see if it helps, not at all makes no difference coming down from 1k, dlss perf, max 60. It is usually around 60 free roam though making the drops even more sudden. And this being intel the temps are the same at any setting. I did dl a few QOL things but modding is a bit weird in this game. Merging and such required. And of course techland being techland they conveniently disable legendary items if you mod it, even sp offline, thanks bros! Eh had enough, thought Denuvoless would have helped but either it didn't do anything or it made it worse I can't remember too clearly from last year. Doesn't have the staying power of TW3, GTAV etc after a few months or a year break and it's only better than 1 because more things to do, larger world, better looking, everything else is worse really.

yeah but I have to say I don't know what changed but it seems more stuttery than with denuvo previous version I played a ton. Even before I put in a few mods mostly QOL, ez lockpicking, no intro videos, getting rid of the forced blurryness with baked in lens flare and other stuff that makes it a mess in sunny times.
-
As mentioned in the dying light 2 thread fired it up without denuvo now and once I dialed in all the correct settings it works great, 1080p dlss perf, 60 locked mostly, smooth. I was also looking at nexus page for this game and thankfully there's a mod that gets rid of the egregious lens flare/bloom etc that makes it so blurry sometimes, not sure what the devs are thinking with all that crap you can't disable normally. Hoo boy here we go with the modding on this one now lol
-
Fired this up again since it's denuvoless now, pretty clunky compared to cyberpunk and that's hard to do. First off starts in dx11 mode so dlss didn't work afaik because it was stuttery as heck even on perf setting and moving down to med on most things. Second no frame limiter in the settings so had to do it with NCP to 60. And now the nagware about my driver version of 527 to get 528 but then starts up so who knows may update that. Looks terrible compared to cp77 at similar settings. Improved with dx12 though that's for sure but had to set that, why it didn't default to dx12 no idea that's what I'm pretty sure I had it on last session back in 22. Edit: seems to be ok once I updated drivers, etc looks fine just not cp77 good understandable for such an alive open world comparatively. Frustrating climbing though very wonky at times and of course relearning the controls etc

https://www.dsogaming.com/patches/the-witcher-3-next-gen-update-4-01-released-full-patch-notes/ I haven't tried the remaster version so far, it has a few patches now so somewhere down the line, I like that the saves transfer over, saw the opening and early game enough before. I want to be free to travel to all the areas and DLCs, to see if it wows me and of course how much worse perf I'll get. I had the original at 2k DSR 60fps locked, without the lock I got variable as high as 80fps, probably be lucky to get 60 at 1k with this one and the drive space game hassle too. Still one of the top 5 best games I've played in 3d games, incredible, engaging, satisfying combat etc etc etc One of my favorites was walking down a pathway and a dog comes up to me, follow it to some bandits and the story that goes with all that. I also remember the farm with letho, wandered into that at random exploration too, and when finding the Roach talking gig way after finishing the whole game just exploring hilarious.

I switched from DLSS 2412 to 2413 and it seems to look a lot sharper than with 2412. I also just stuck the latest DLSS3 dllg in there of course nothing there since it's only a 2060m lol. Seems to use around 9-10gb of system ram lately rather than the usual 8.5gb not sure why though. I did adjust the render.ini distance from 40 to 41 but not sure how that would add much more ram usage idk maybe something in the background I forgot about. Have some weird clothes clipping while on the bike lately, it is fine at first no clipping of clothes then at some point buns peeking through and the top clipping as well, thought maybe it was a render distance issue but probably something to do with the wig-hat replacer mod "Change your hairstyles", works good for the most part really easy to switch hair styles to the ones he used to replace hats on the fly. Just installed last few days.

Yeah but it's always nice to get info by people who have used specific programs that are free and links they used etc. I was a bit concerned about keylogging at some point and looked up a couple of free input randomizers. GhostPress is one I used, but it leads to input lag and all normal keylogging is is id-ing the user with input frequency patterns by big brother and also marketing etc Your bank/cc to use their site requires login which is encrypted so I think has something nullifying keylogging my guess only though. https://schiffer.tech/ghostpress.html Kldetector is another free one. http://dewasoft.com/privacy/kldetector.htm I'm no expert on this just used them here and there, not really any way to know if they prevented bad things or not, all I can say is that I've never had any stolen or compromised online accounts that I know of.

I thought it might be good to have a free software thread so we can post what we've used and get reliable safe links and comments here. Windows, Linux, Android, etc all welcome. My first contribution here are a couple of free ebook converters I've used myself and both work great. Calibre https://calibre-ebook.com/ Terrible UI imo but does batch conversions free. Any ebook converter https://www.softpedia.com/get/Others/E-Book/Any-eBook-Converter.shtml This has a much better UI than Calibre does, but the free version only converts one at a time, not bulk conversions. I've also used Hamster in the past but it seemed to require some particular add on from windows update that prevented me from using it, maybe you'd have more luck. https://hamster-free-ebook-converter.en.uptodown.com/windows/download Needs dotnet framework 3.5 service pack 1 to work, 232mb dl. Fair credit goes to this link for the first two: https://listoffreeware.com/free-azw3-converter-software-windows/ https://listoffreeware.com/ Also for windows control and other useful stuff there's Sordum. https://www.sordum.org/
