AC LF II 420 is a beast and zero RGB or extra cables/software. Utilitarian in the best way. Does what it says it will do no muss; no fuss. I think @Papusan has one too. It's a great AIO. And yeah, you're going to need a big boy to house it. This Enthroo advertises supporting a 420mm up top but that is clearly one without the extra touch of length of the AC. I had to mount it in the front. I can almost guarantee my streak of bad/worst bins will continue in full force with BB. We have a love/hate relationship apparently. 😭 I did install the newest BIOS which was released a few days ago for the D4 bringing it up to 1403 like the rest of their Z690 boards and it specifically addresses the KS (along with more memory compatibility) so it is primed and ready to spit back that SP84. -

That's exactly what I used to cover the pins when I Dsanke'd my P870DM-G to run an 8086k.... works fine. Just make sure they're small enough to not compromise any of the other surrounding pins. -

I can see this happening. I saw it happen to somebody and Walmart. They kept returning almost everything they would buy month after month till they were flagged by that and surrounding Walmarts unable to return anything. Fast forward 4 years later and they move to a different state. Do the same thing (they called it, "Reverse Shopping Day") for month after month and yep....banned from returning anything there too. Never did understand returning that high of volume of returns but it was a case of buyers remorse after the shopping high wore off. -

I absolutely agree it is throttling as we know the baseline potential of the 12700k. I also just helped a user who was throttling just as much in their X170SM-G with a 10900k to know how under performing it was. It was only achieving ~70% of its optimized performance once we usually get under (and over) the hood and tweak and optimize it properly and that was factory fresh from Eluktronics. Looking at those early X15 screen shots? It is only achieving ~73% of its proper baseline performance. We won't know what is capable till we see actual launch units, notebookcheck get a review unit and more importantly a person or persons on the forums get their hands on one to document the highs and lows. All we know is a hybrid Socket 1700 DTR is on the way that can actually use desktop 12th gen chips is on the way. It is definitely flawed. I have yet to get a laptop that hasn't been flawed in some fashion. Closest to perfection was the Alienware M18x R2 IMHO. That was the pinnacle on all fronts. We've only trended back downward since. -
If I was shopping for a 1600w PSU right now, I would pick up an EVGA Platinum 1600w which has dropped $140USD to $359.99 w/ a 10yr warranty: https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=220-PP-1600-X1 For 1000w I would have no problems using an EVGA 1000w G6 on sale for $179.99: https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=220-G6-1000-X1 As it stands now, personally, I am going to wait for the new generation of PSUs with the new power connectors and ride my Seasonic 1000w, EVGA 850w till then.

Not yet. I'll pop it in today most likely if I get time. Not much. I'm an elite member and I buy so much stuff from them for myself, family and clients (I usually hit elite status before the end of Q1 sometimes sooner) I suspect it is a drop in the bucket overall. Plus my wife is good friends with the CS lady in there. It's a running joke with them, "Oh....what's he going to return today?" or when picking up an order she will tell her, "So when can we expect this back?" 😆 I've kept plenty of duds from them or average chips. If I'm building out for someone who doesn't give a hoot about overclocking I'm going to keep the CPU anyhow but I can absolutely say with 100% confidence the highest amount of mediocre chips I've ever tested over the last 3 years have all come from Best Buy. Best buy holds the record for the WORST chips too for 9th->11th and even my brothers 5600x was barely a silver. I switched from an air cooler to a 240mm AIO in his mATX buildout because it ran warmer than normal. The best chips without a doubt have come from Newegg. Everyone was above average or higher going back to even 6th gen. Anecdotal at best but that is just my experience. -

We've reached a point of no return and BGA only solutions have run away with just about everything. Boycotting will just be the final nail in the coffin as they will simply even stop making hybrids even and everything will just be BGA. The general (m)asses have fully embraced BGA as the only solution but I guess inversely the market speaks and it is what they preferred when given a choice as at one point beefy notebooks held equal if not more market share but the bean counters could see which direction the market was flowing. Outside of removable graphics, this is just like the previous models. I see plenty of copper and I like the 2x SO-DIMM design. It's a painful pill to swallow but nothing is soldered on except the GPU. It is nails on a chalkboard to me but there are literally zero, realistic means to reverse the flow: Numerous real laptops, small selection of T&L T&L draws parity with real laptops T&L dominates, real laptop options start to dry up All the real beefy laptop makers abandon their true DTRs except for Clevo who still offers multiple models Clevo only issues one true DTR Clevo issues an almost DTR except for BGA graphics I do hope the X15 is a portend of a refresh for a 17" model with modular everything but I'm not holding my breath. If the X15 can be tamed with binned silicon and all the normal tricks of the trade even at stock settings a 12900k in there will blow away every other notebook out there by a long shot. Depending on what the TDP of the cooling solution (which by appearances is clearly skewed to cool the CPU), you toss in a 12900k that naturally runs cool at stock and can be massively UV it has potential. -

Now you know almost every laptop (and plenty of desktops) that roll off the line get subpar scores till they are released into the wild and we get our hands on them and tune them up good and proper. 😁 With that being said, that is a full fat 12700k in there obviously throttling. It is scoring lower than my 10900k in my X170SM-G. It's going to need some work, stat. Remember X170SM's and even X170KMs even now still throttle like crazy without proper TLC. Users in the old X170KM-G forums kept saying it couldn't be tamed with an 11900k till I tamed one with an 11900k (a faulty X170KM-G at that) and had it running properly. Even now, an owner of an X170SM-G in the X170SM-G forums just sent his back to get it looked at from Eluktronics because his 10900k was throttling and his 3Dmark CPU score was under 10k when it should be around 14k. What I'm saying is those issues can most likely be addressed and fixed. That's what we've always done in the Notebook forums. As for the GPU.... 🙄 I'm not sure what they or we can do in regards to the GPU if all that is being offered now is non MXM solutions but only BGA options then what? At least with flexible memory and CPU we remove two points of known failure but I agree I am not a fan at all of the soldered on GPU in any way, shape or form. I'd still take this hybrid DTR over the completely soldered BGA laptops that are out there instead though. -

I remember it being both. He would give his BIOS to individuals under the agreement they don't sell, modify or share it and one POS did exactly that. Tack on the Eurocom debacle and....yeah. -
A re-design could be in the works since Socket 1700 is Intel's future for the next 3-4 iterations at least for a 17" model. (fingers crossed). I'm pretty sure you can plug in a 12900k. I mean, you can't take advantage of anything 😭 but it will most likely work.

I second EVGA for their warranty. I do like Seasonic's flatter and more flexible cabling though. Corsair cables are so stiff and sharp and after the previously mentioned H1200 debacle (cold temps caused brown starts) which took my Z390 FTW with it during a faulty start up, I'm done with them for PSUs. I RMA'd the recalled H1200. They sent me a brand new one and I sold it as is. What have you budgeted for a good PSU? That will really set the narrative for your purchasing adventures.

Last day to pick up the 12900ks from Best Buy so I did. It was launch day, first sellout batch from BB I ordered and was sitting there since last Fridday (takes deep breath of KS container).... Mmmmm I can smell the SP84 sitting inside 😁 I'll pop it in later tonight or tomorrow but my track record with bad bins from Best Buy is pretty epic. Only decent chip I got from them over all these years was that golden 5800x. Every other chip has been pretty mediocre. Including the worst 11900k and 12900k CPUs out of all the chips I tested. -
Depending on the curve and pull you experience with the 10850k along with how far you want to take it, budget at least 350w and 500w for the 3090 and 400w for the 6900xt. If you're going to work with 520w or unlocked vBIOS for the 3090 adjust accordingly. So you are looking at 800w min just for those two items. I'd would say a 1000w is the min and a 1200w would be better. 1500w is overkill in the best way. I tripped my EVGA 850w overclocking my 11900k and KPE 3090 for example and switched to a 1000 Seasonic Focus and moved the 850w to the test rig. My next PSU is going to be min 1500w now that prices are starting to get better.

15" is a bummer. H690 is a let down As for the GPU, I don't know if we'll see any MXM cards again only fusion builds of socket-able CPUs and BGA GPUs. The upside is you can bin your CPU and if/when the 3070ti isn't enough go eGPU. Even with H690, once a system is in the wild great things do tend to happen. 🙂 And I agree; I would hope this is a portend of things to come and we get a proper 17" DTR.

The official statement from Eurocom President says up to the 12900k but if you can't overclock it...... 4 pipes and lots of copper is nice but enough with the tri-mount BS.

I'm hoping they aren't the only ones who will offer this model. Maybe look and see what XMG and a few others have to say. But if Eurocomm is the only one offering it....well it is what it is. 😭 I agree Eurocomm's track record wasn't great and it was an individual user who was trusted who took Prema's BIOS and abused it for his own gains along with the Eurocomm debacle. -

Eurocomm has announced a full Socket 1700 DTR: https://videocardz.com/press-release/eurocom-announces-raptor-x15-laptop-with-up-to-intel-core-i9-12900k-16-core-desktop-cpu Upsides: Full 12th gen support up to 12900k. My cool hand luke pulling ~150w full tilt at stock running CB23 20min loop would probably be right at home in this. Only 2x SO-DIMM slots. Less traces, less fuss, 12th gen runs best on two slots anyhow DDR4 support up to 3200....hopefully trhe BIOS is unlocked a bit Downsides: 15.6" form factor Looks to be BGA 3070ti Official thread started here: -
