  1. Whew, look at those prices continue to fall. Mind boggling they were $2299+ last year. That is basically back to proper launch day MSRP for after market cards finally. After conferring with the high council (namely the wife) I have to sell off some hardware before I pull the trigger on anything. I have a lot of it and will need to go partial nuclear option ala @Rage Set before I pick up a 6900xt. I'm going to skip the KS and 5800X3D and I don't want to sell my Strix 3080. I'll at the min need to divest myself of 1 small laptop, 2x binned 10900k's (from a pile of 4), sealed EVGA 3060ti and a micro ATX 12th gen build out of a 12100f system and a few peripherals.
  2. I tend to play native. WoW is my main game and I play at 4k and it doesn't support DLSS (boo). I used to play with RT on but the hit even with a 3090 was just too much when I had one so I turned it off. All I've used is 3000 series since launch but I do want to test out and use AMD but the prices for the 6900xt's was outlandish for what you get. After doing a lot of research on PCB, build quality, cooler and aesthetics, along with binned silicon the Formula OC is my chosen 6900xt if I were to get one. I have a soft spot for AMD. I actually used a 5700xt from launch till the 3000 series for WoW BFA and it was a great 1440p card. Do a search on ebay for 6900xt. The price drops are insane.
  3. I don't mind an increase in power consumption if it provides a nice performance boost. This is extracting every bit of scrap left in full fat binned chips, slapping on a tank size cooler, getting 5-10% performance increase clock for clock and increasing the price by 33% and slipping in the $2k min MSRP while scalper market prices fall..... .....yet I still kinda want one...sad 😁
  4. I don't think we'll see the 4000 series till Q1 2023 based on industry guesses. so 8 months minimum. But if what you have now is doing ok I would definitely wait. If I've been stuck in the no GPU zone limping by with a terrible card, I would wait another month or two for the price bleeding to stop and then buy. For example: I've been watching the Asrock OC Formula 6900xt on Newegg and it has gone from a high of $2299 down to $1294.99 and falling. I expect it to bottom out at $1199.99 ($200 above AMD reference model) when all is said and done and then I'll most likely pick one up new or wait for an eBay special where they are languishing already since Newegg has them listed there now too for $1294.99 brand new so sellers are going to have to come in well below that to move them. Lots of "best offers" options on the cards listed there now. It is a buyers market that is just getting stronger daily.....finally.
  5. Both bottom and middle FTW3 3090ti's in stock @ evga: https://www.evga.com/products/productlist.aspx?type=0&family=GeForce+30+Series+Family&chipset=RTX+3090+Ti
  6. Port Royal isn't really a valid test unless you're comparing first gen vs second gen RT only. The real test lies in rasterization. The second video shows the two sets of neutered 3070 vs 2080s trading blows pretty evenly with the 2080s winning some, losing some and lots of effective ties. What's your timespy results? I know mine is an SP91. I think @Talon is SP92'ish too? @johnksss has the best one I've seen on this forum so far for SP rating.
  7. We call that the ultimate roller coaster ride...what I see is out of it all with RMAs pending you managed to get a replacement KPE 3090 that is a monster bin AND a 12900k SP98 that is also a monster bin.... I don't know whether to have you stand far away or close 😁
  8. This really hurts my feelings when I see these rejects make their way into desktop level components. I would never, ever even think of running something like this in any capacity anywhere near a desktop level....ever.
  9. I've done this numerous times where I just sell off everything and start fresh or wait for the next wave of goodies. I suddenly find myself with a pile of parts and cards so I'll probably do the same in some fashion. With that being said, let me know how much you're asking for the Asrock OC 6900xt. Funds are tight atm as I have 3x 10900k's in house to bin out to extract even more performance for the X170SM-G but I'm always curious. I wouldn't need the WB as I'd run it as is.
  10. Looking forward to the results! I also liked your cheap build video you put up the other day too. I do know watching Gamer's Nexus review of the FTW3 he opens it up and the dies have binning clocks on them. He calls Jacob @ evga and he confirmed they bin their chips for the FTW3 models so the Black most likely is a lesser bin than the 2149/2199 model. The binning clocks for the 2199 model are 2040 which is 15mhz higher than the binning clocks for the kpe 3090 which was 2025.
  11. Until they get the pull and heat under control, that can never happen realistically. I'm sure they've run the numbers, checked yields, break points for cores vs clocks and this is as good as they can do on a mass scale at the moment. Like you mentioned before, they could lower clocks to add more cores but that die size would be huge (not always a bad thing). Even turning off the e-cores, you still get some righteous pull and heat because they are responsible for most of the package power and heat. Instead of this KS BS, I would have rather seen at least some binned 10-12 P-Core only chips.
  12. I know plenty of others feel the same, but y'all are doing a bang up job here on all levels. Things started off great and are just getting better and better. 👏
  13. I agree non-specialized boards get shafted in terms of water blocks and the waiting game is ridiculous. The move towards boost clocks full spectrum is really great for everybody but greatly reduces those fat margins of yesteryear. If you're willing to sacrifice eye candy. >60fps and resolution even Pascal can get by but if you're trying to eeek every bit of resolution, eye candy and fps for even a 120hz display then even the 3090ti will hit walls.
  14. This sounds like a prelude speech to ordering a KPE 3090ti. 🙂 Did you at least queue up for a KPE 3090ti? If you're looking to rip out as big of scores as you can then the KPE 3090 ti would be the way to go (or HOF) but so far EK has announced blocks for several makes/models but KPE 3090ti is not one of them: Hopefully they'll pass on through and keep the magic going. This place has serious potential! All we need is to get Spartan over here to round it out.
  15. Whew, I mean overall the performance gains are definitely there most double digits and Cyberpunk 60 vs 45... Newegg dropped the price even more on the Asrock OC Formula 6900xt to sub $1300 (Crazy this was going for $2k+ last year) now with NO limits on how many you buy. It went from 1 to 5 to 10 to none. Don't forget to pick up their recommended 650w Newegg brand Rosewill 650w PSU for all your power needs.....😏🙄
  16. We are seeing end game for driver maturation. We went from AMD being clearly outclassed at 4k to actually pulling ahead in some areas. Nvidia has distanced the 3090 from the 3080 since the beginning definitely. That gap between the 3080 and 3090ti is quite hefty. Both sets of drivers have matured and extracted more performance since the beginning. I will say as usually happens AMD's driver maturation process has resulted in more performance gains where in pure rasterization the 6900xt still beats the 3090ti in a few games even. If (when?) AMD launches their last salvo with the 6950xt it will be very interesting. What AMD is lacking is a proper DLSS, NVENC and usable RT on the high end but raw performance? Yeah it's the real deal. I can't wait for 4000 vs 7000 series!
  17. Nice! I always like how you keep right on the cutting edge. I dip my toe in the water from time to time but I still live vicariously overall through your purchases. 😄 How's the coil whine? I don't regret selling my KPE back in October. Solid 9-10 months of use. Took me through the better part of WoW with RT enabled @ 4k Ultra 10 settings. Sold it for a little bit of profit. I like this Strix 3080 a lot. Quietest card I've ever had. Got it at "retail." ($1119) Even quieter than the KPE 3090 which was near silent for coil whine. I could hear it if I got right up on it. This one? I have to use the tube method to even find any sound at all. Downside? That performance drop means I had to jettison RT as the hit is too much but I don't really miss it. I'd take it if the fps could keep up though. There are a few areas where the 3080 bogs down into the low 50's where the 3090 kept it at a solid 60 no matter what (I'm looking at you Ardenweald and a few ORBs). Looking at the difference between the 3080 and 3090ti it is even more pronounced. Our local (50min away) Microcenter JUST sold out today their EVGA 3090 ti's. They had them in stock all day yesterday and into today which shows the market is acting right for once. They had the $1999.99 model in stock up to an hour ago and sold out of the $2149.99 model this morning. I've contemplated stepping back up to a 3090 (now 3090ti) to get those rock solid frames back. It would definitely be an EVGA FTW3 3090ti $1999 model or I'm still thinking about a 6900xt which with RT off equals or beats a 3090 for WoW @ 4k. I still got my eye on the Asrock OC Formula 6900xt at Newegg which is now down to $1359. That's only $360 more than the OEM model, vastly better PCB build quality and cooler and it comes with the binned silicon.
  18. I thought he exact same thing watching Jay's video yesterday. Why compare a stock FE 3090 to a FTW 3090ti? He even had a 3090 FTW in hand for size comparison. HWunboxed did a better job too: Testing games TUF vs TUF = ~6-11% faster depending on game:
  19. Price being equal, I'd take a 6900xt over a 2080ti. The 6900xt still manages to beat the 3090ti in a few games and hangs tough overall. It really comes down to what you're going to do with it.
  20. Devalues the 3090 AND in these falling market times makes reselling at best a break even event. Crikeys, KPE 3090 ti has dual 16-pin power connectors.....this thing means business...I like the caps on the back though....all high end for that $2500....
  21. Even stressing both simultaneously in unrealistic synthetics I've never seen the GPU reach anywhere near those levels. Ambient deltas can be accounted for but hitting 95c in Timespy is a major read flag. I agree it is most likely a contact issue. Double check the thermal spread. You can also verify good contact by using a central dollop application versus manual spread to see how the natural pressure of the secured heatsink distributes the thermal compound. If the spread is sound, you could try a copper shim to see if it is still a pairing issue. I also agree to double check the gpu thermal pads to make sure one isn't compromising the pairing pressure.
  22. I'm a firm believer in don't upgrade till you see a need. If your Omen is handling it close to your expectations save your coin and wait for newer models and/or for your laptop to suddenly stop performing to contemplate upgrades/changes. Only reason I upgraded from my P870TMw/ 1060 to an X170SM-G w/ 2080 Super was because WoW Shadowlands suddenly reduced my normally 60-80fps @ Ultra 10 to 20-30fps at level 7 in some areas. A need presented itself and I was left with upgrading the GPU or selling it (parted it out) and replacing the entire thing. Now I'm running around at 144fps just about everywhere. If you are unhappy with the gaming performance your only options are 3070(ti) / 3080(ti). Check out some reviews and see the performance delta between your results and what they are seeing to give you some idea of a baseline and go from there. Your laptop does have a TB4 port so you could contemplate an external GPU when home.
  23. Whoa, those GPU temps are outrageously high. That is the most concerning to me. CPU pegging 91c in TimeSpy stress could use some work but I'd focus on the GPU first. Do you have an overclock running on the GPU or that is stock? I run the same GPU and temps are much lower. I have to do some testing on my X170SM-G to prep for some binning runs between three 10900k's anyhow so I'll rerun TimeSpy for comparison later. @clamibot can you do a full TimeSpy run with a HWinfo screen (all stock) for comparison for control too since we have similar rigs and all three of us are running 2080 Supers.
