Nice, at least we can now establish a somewhat baseline between Force and SP since @johnksss is blessed to own both boards. 🙂

Sugi will literally end up going through 50-100 chips when all is said and done (if not more) to fish out the top bins. Awesome to sit back and witness but way too pricey to mimic. 😞

These chips have a great ring/cache though, mine is at x51 ring. Rocket lake would never let me go this high. And all at SUB 300 watts. I'm happy. This thing absolutely squashes my 11900K, if I could squeak by 18K with my 11900K in R23 it was a MIRACLE.

Luumi's OC run is taking more than 300W, on Stock 5.5GHz and 4.3GHz, its 320W and with OC it goes to insane 390W with P cores at 5.7GHz and Add-on cores at 4.5GHz, Cache Ring at 5GHz with 1.35v. Then he increases the Add on cores to 4.6GHz and P cores to 5.8GHz same Vcore it goes to blistering 415W. P95 goes to 468W with AVX offset.

Yeah that’s a lot of juice. I haven’t ever seen power go that crazy yet on my system.

Power is right at 330 watts running just R23 for a minute. I’m still tuning my chip trying to decide what profile I want to run.

That's awesome. The thrust of focus should always be in the results. Being obsessed with power draw is silly and a distraction. The way I look at it is, "it is what it is" and what I should be paying more attention to is everything else. The right questions to ask are things like "how did I do?" and "what is my rank?" and "can I beat the person in front of me?" and "what do I need to do in order to do that?" and power draw is merely a natural byproduct of that pursuit. If I let it become a focal point, success will evade me.

Once you have a baseline on what is normal, increasing power draw while simultaneously increasing performance confirms you are on the right track with tuning. The only point at which it matters is whether or not you have the necessary hardware to tame it thermally. Determining success based on a preconceived bias about what that number is, including a conclusion that it is "too high" is arbitrary. It tells me that person is potentially misguided and lacks understanding. Yes, that includes lots of famous people on YouTube, many of whom are legends in their own minds. They may be worth putting up with if they are a source of useful information that I can leverage. A massive subscriber base is a measurement of popularity, not authority.

The abortion we see with modern turdbooks is a great example of what the end result looks like when the wrong thing becomes most important. That is a mess, not a success. No thank you... It draws less power, but it still overheats. Somebody with an engineering degree sucks at their job.

Let the smoke game begin🙂 Within a year and this will be a nightmare for NVIDIA. Maybe nvidia should start offer an 90-Degree Angled 16-Pin Connector for free? Small sff chassis will be more and more popular (they are alredy). Domed for smoke and fire 🙂

Two redditors now report that their RTX 4090 graphics cards are now dead, and melted power connectors might be the reason why.

NVIDIA might have a problem with some RTX 4090 catching fire

https://videocardz.com/newz/first-users-report-nvidia-rtx-4090-gpus-with-melted-16-pin-power-connectors

Nvidia prepare for needed vbios changes? How many fried cards do they need to inspect before they do needed changes? 10, 20 or 25? Nvidia reached out to OP with the smoked connector

Have Nvidia and their AIB partners sent with a manual in the Gpu package with an warning/guideline on how to properly bend the adapter cable/mount it properly on the Gpu?

I expect we will see more smoke and fire when more people who enjoy small cute and shiny SFF chassis finally get their hands on 4090 series cards 🙂

I'm convinced that guy bent that power cable trying to fit it into his case. It's extremely easy to mess that cable up, which is definitely on Nvidia and this crazy new cable, but if you follow the instructions included in the box or some common sense this should not happen.

When putting the FE 4090 into my Lian Li O11 Dynamic (non-XL) the cable would not fit. I attempted a small angle to make it fit but I quickly discovered the pressure it was putting on those cables and the tip. Plenty of idiots are just going to smash it in there and then cry foul when their cables start on fire.

Right now I think Nvidia should be thinking seriously about a cable adapter that offers an easier 90 degree angle for attachment. This would be a relatively cheap and simple fix for the end user. But I guess a few lawsuits might be even cheaper in the end.

Yep. And you don't need to be an idiot. There is many people out there that isn't so clever in tech. And many don't follow the manual properly. Their main goal is to cram it in to start use it.

This means bad publicity. But they have to do something with this. There have been a lot talk about this the last months. And we can now see the outcome. Was doomed to happen. Even an bigger warning sticker in the Gpu package won't help. Because people are so different.

I dodged a bullet tonight LOL. So, I had a spare Cold plate for my Optimus Signature V2  Nickel waterblock. And we know how restrictive these blocks are, they act as filters more than anything.  I also had to install my watercooled Corsair 2TB M.2.

Anyways, threw in the new Optimus PC cold plate fired up my rig. Started to bleed air out, and there was a PUDDLE are my CPU literally! fortunately I saw it and killed power. All from not using a large enough screw driver to tighten down the cold plate. I Torqued it down a little more with something larger, and now no more leaks!

PS: The cold plate below was @Mr. Foxcold plate originally, and I have been running it for a long time now with no maintenance on just clear distilled with additives. I feel like I have added (2) extra D5’s my water pressure is through the roof! I will clean it, and it’ll go back in after this one clogs in about 1.5 years or so.

This is a pic of the brand new cold plate.

I figured I should stop being lazy and delid the 12900KS before it goes in Banshee. As expected, a nice 10-12°C drop in load temps and allowed me to lower vcore from 1.360V @ 54x all P cores to 1.340V. As many times as I have done this, it still makes me nervous since the first 11900K that got de-die'd rather than delidded. I never batted an eye before and viewed it as non-chalant as a repaste. 86°C core max on ambient water... not too shabby. Just under 400W. No special tweaks or tuning here... ran it on my crash test dummy cancer OS.

Lol why do i think we will get a 4090 ti with a different connector 😂.. Like every big company, nvidia lets his customers be the beta testers 🤣

Works great. My flash went off without a hitch. I flashed from version 2.01 to 2.02 inside Windows with batch file as Admin. Rebooted and began tweaking.

I updated to 2.03 and it's working fine, ready for 13900K.

Weird thing though, now Windows 11 has non-functional USB ports. Older versions of Windows work fine. I tried flashing in Windows 11 on older BIOS and it gives an error about "Intel ME Device not found" and reboots. Lovely POS from the Micro$lop Mafia.

I feel like this chip is a real G for sure.

I’m testing:

5.7Ghz P-Cores

4.5Ghz E-Cores

4.7Ghz Ring

1.245V set in bios.

Water chiller is off, yep warm water with fans!

294 watts Cinebench R23.

Hwinfo Max VID is 1.238V

Hwinfo Min VID is 1.199V

Update:

I can run 5.8Ghz on just my radiator and fans now and normal water. That new Optimus Signature cold plate has somehow reduced temps by 10C+.

I am shocked. My core temps are 78-88c with no chiller at all. 😎 If I delidded this CPU, I would probably get down in the 60’s. The truth is, I don’t need to.

NO CHILLER!

To be fair, I didn't know bending cables too much could cause problems either, and I'm an enthusiast just like everyone else on this forum. I thought the cables were more secure than that. That's new knowledge for me that I'll keep in mind for future builds.

LOL you may not need to delid, but why not do it? It'll just improve your results further. With your chip, you could probably reach some insanely high speeds with your chiller working at max. We're all giddy with excitement at the prospect of what you can achieve. 🤪

Because people are so different.

this. doesnt even take an idiot for such a thing to occur. take any pre-built systems for example, like recently reviewed again by GN: cpu running at 100C due to upside down installed fans sucking the air from each other. plus, if u think how we normally treat power cables when managing them, i myself routed them neatly on the backside  but then mashed them all together in the dead space next to the PSU. its how its done and cables SHOULD be able to take that. but this one is so fragile and finicky, urgh... i just feel lucky that i chose such a behemoth case as the Enthoo Pro 2 that is more than wide enough to let the connector "breathe" before the bent downward comes.

No special tweaks or tuning here... ran it on my crash test dummy cancer OS.

yep same here. as mentioned above, id say most enthusiasts just smash cables together when managing them on the backside, they should be able to take that and not burst into flames right away...

I’m really happy with my 13900KF. I think

its a keeper for sure. I’m really glad I upgraded. Massive improvement over the 11900K.

Looking at how these compare to 12th Gen it is just amazing!

PS: DDR5 7200 will be here tomorrow Hynix A die.

@Mr. Fox

Delidding your 12900KS only builds that confidence for the 13900K delid. I think 6Ghz all core is very doable once delidded. Anyways, no matter how many times we’ve delidded, after that 11900K incident yeah I’d be nervous about Delidding too, I tore my 1st 11900K up pretty bad ripped of (16) small SMD’s. Confidence is put in check real quick after something like that with these small fragile components. But, I’m very glad it was successful on your 12900KS. Did you heat it up first? Or just pop the IHS cold?

Maybe you did too many good delids, and with the 11900K you’re like pshhhh walk in the park, I got this, delid # 398 coming right up, easy peasy lemon squeezy, I can do this with eyes closed, one hand tied behind back, “Crunch” oops. 😄

Intel avoided it for their new ARC graphics cards. They themself helped engineer/devope the new connector. And AMD avoid it as well. Nvidia needed it because they wanted more space on the PCB for cooling (remember they designed the cooling meant for +600w).
