DDR5 7600 CL36-46-46-81 @ 1.400V. I imagine 7800-8000 is possible though, haven’t tried yet.

Picked up some 7600 CL36 GSkills on the way home. MC in Chicago had them in stock the other morning so I reserved them. Testing them now at 7600 CL36 on the Dark. XMP I booted right up. I'll see how tight/high I can get them to go later.

Same modules. I let them run default to get the CPU OC to 51 first then start working on the memory.

Then switched it to XMP 1, no POST, XMP 2, no POST.

Perhaps I have the wrong DIMM slots populated, checking now. Looks like A1B1.

From what I am reading here, looks like I should move the DIMMS over 1 position each to A2/B2?

Just follow the board manual? A2/B2 for me. If that doesn't help check CPU sitting/heatsink pressure - not sure if your CPU is as sensitive as 12th gen where this can def have an impact.

You could not stabilize 7600 with your Dark with the T-Force 7200’s?

I did mine today. (16) iterations of HCI Memtest full coverage 2+ hours good to go. So I called it enough for daily.

I just copied the timings of the 7600 XMP models. I got them at 7600 CL36-46-46-46-81@ only 1.400V.

Let me know how the 7600’s do though.

I have the T-Force 7200s in my Hero living room PC. I wanted to replace my A-Die Green PCBs that were annoying me with no accurate voltage since it's PCMI unlock isn't precise it seems. So far so good at XMP I 1.4v. I'll let you know how far they go.

When I was trying to bin for decent 11900K, I was testing them in a Z490 Gigabyte/Aorus motherboard. It was a joke.. lol. I had to test them all again on my EVGA Z590 Dark. Which managed to finally give me some consistent data on each chip.

I don’t think I could ever go for another Gigabyte motherboard again. Honestly, now I’m a MSI fan! Who would have thought that!

During a recent prosumer mobo purchase research it became clear it's either MSI or Asus these days. MSI won the argument on robustness, features, and memory stability (immediately evidenced by the max RAM speeds they officially support, in addition to supportive reviews). The main feature lacking is the frequently quoted SP rating lol, but then of course we have the Force 2 score to despair over 😉

Has worked a treat for me.

You pay a significant premium for this, so depending on the usage patterns realized reliability of MSI/Asus, the better customer care may or may not be worth it (for me EVGA was out right away with just one PCIe slot on the Kingpin). For a hardcore OCer likely to fry things, paying the premium might make sense (but such customers are generally terrible business for EVGA).

At this point, the overall EVGA situation needs to be taken into account as well, unfortunately. Looks a bit like they are closing shop or scaling down significantly. No Z790 mobo for instance, their flagship PSU SuperNova T2 is marked as EOL by some retailers, no new model is advertised etc.

MSI makes solid boards. I was highly impressed with my MSI Z490 and Z590 (which is now running in my son in law's system). EVGA, Asus and MSI are basically my go to board vendors now.

EVGA has the Z790 Dark and classified coming up: https://www.evga.com/articles/01590/Introducing-the-EVGA-Z790/

They are still offering all their products, selling out of the rest of their 3000 series and just not making 4000 series cards. Nothing else has changed (unless I missed something?).

They are also focusing on Power Supplies too so expect a new line of PSUs soon (or at least that is what they intimated to Steve @ GN).

I’m confused by this.

So, I’m trying to accomplish DDR5 8000+ and I’m a little lost by these new voltages.

I want to try and set 1.65 VDDQ, and 1.60 VDD. Since these are on the higher side, I don’t want to hit the wrong one.

I’ve got:

CPU VDDQ in bios

CPU VDD2 in bios

DRAM VDDQ in bios

Which is which?

For those of you that like small systems and don't loathe air cooling, the rig it this guy's signature is very cool. It looks like a speaker or amplifier box with a mini-ITX inside of it. Pretty creative idea that looks neat even though I don't think I would like owning it. The specs are pretty unimpressive, but it looks great as a novelty build.

Good Afternoon,

How unfortunate! Wish you the best of luck, I cant even get these blokes not to double-triple post so often. Besides, they have been scorning AMD for a near decade for its lackluster presence in the laptop market. Pendulums only swing so far before returning, though in this case it seems you gave it a helping hand. Something about a fancy form over function connector that melts? Perhaps focus is do in that arena.

I guess if we start experiencing 3.0 PSU and power cable (single cable) failures then we could assume so, but as of right now no one has came forth with that as being an issue....YET!

Not sure how those single cables are put together because no one has torn one apart yet. I would really need to see that before submitting 100% to the idea that it is also safe.

Edit

To add, it was actually one of the main reasons driving me forward with that purchase. It was 1 cable and not 4 or 3 cables into 1

word, i had the same thinking with going native 12VHPWR

yep i had the exact same issue when i first put together Hyperion, wouldnt boot at all because i put the sticks into A1B1 (which normally makes total sense since theyre closer to the cpu socket). but nope, A2B2 first! no idea why they chose to go this route.

I’ve managed some really amazing stuff with my 13900KF 5.9Ghz is easy for a daily it seems 😃. But for some reason I cannot even post past 7600 DDR5. Funny thing is, DDR5 7600 is stable. And good for daily as well.

5.9 GHz is stable on the P-Cores at just @1.350V. With 4.5Ghz E-Cores, and 5.1Ghz ring.

This is a great CPU, and great memory too! But, maybe I’m limited by my board.. I’m seeing people stabilize 7800+ on a (6 layer) Z790 Strix F 😭 regardless not worth it to make me upgrade motherboards. I’m happy with what I’ve got. And it could also be me and not the board. Still tinkering here and there though. Lots left to still tune.

You could try to guess, but it would be pure luck if you guess right. It could be the memory, the motherboard, or the CPU. Only way to know for sure is start replacing parts and see which one it is. Two previous 12900K could not run the DDR4 I had used for a couple of years across multiple ASUS and EVGA mobos before at 4500. I assumed it was the Strix mobo. Well, I was surprised that the 13900K and 12900KS are both able to run it totally stable at 4400 (because 4500 is apparently not valid on Z690-???). So, now I am running 4400 CL16-18-18-36-1T. The two 12900K CPUs I ran with it before had good SP ratings and overclocked DDR5 just fine, but they both totally sucked with DDR4 and couldn't handle more than 4000 stable. No idea why.

@electrosoftnow I am running the G.SKILL DDR4 in the Strix at 4600 CL17-18-18-32 1T using the 12900KS. I had to add a powerful fan to keep it cool enough to pass TM5 testing. It starts to error out around 45°C (as expected).

Currently working on 7800 CL36, basically XMP so shit timings. But damn for mostly plug and play this is not too shabby and crazy bandwidth. Going to try 8000 next.

Edit: Both 7800 and 8000 work at 1.435v DRAM VDDQ/VDD, incredible. Unfortunately only 7800 will get long term stable so far.

Ok I think I may love the Dark again. Holy hell. 8000 CL36 easy.

Well It seems 8200 CL36 wants to have a go too. Not sure where it's going to stop just yet. I really need to go to bed. 8200 CL36 takes 1.455v VDD/VDDQ minimum as 8000 CL36 took that to run MSFS 2020 stable. So likely higher for gaming stability, etc.

@electrosoftnow I am running the G.SKILL DDR4 in the Strix at 4600 CL17-18-18-32 1T using the 12900KS. I had to add a powerful fan to keep it cool enough to pass TM5 testing. It starts to error out around 45°C (as expected).

I decided to keep my 13900KF ECO model. I was tempted to ask like $1,000. But I’m attached to it. Plus, I would just have to go out and buy another one lol. I would be merely selling something just to sell something. Then spend more time

and money potentially crying over another one LOL. And all the 13900KF’s are sold out until 11/8, which is what I’d be after if I had to buy another.

I Blame @electrosoft for getting me all in to testing for low power consumption. 😄

He really just did that…$1,000 bucks for my 13900KF. I’m torn. Any thoughts?

Since you are into low power consumption and gaming more than competitive benching it would be silly not to take it. You can live with whatever you get as a replacement if that is how you use your systems. K or KF... whatever... as long as it is not a defective sample that sucks.

Of course you can respond with "I am not sure if that is enough. Let me sleep on it and get back to you, because I am amazed at how good it is." He may bid against himself, or he may patiently wait.

What's your time getting and tuning another CPU worth? Do you need the absolute best or can you settle on a lesser specimen. Will you feel unhappy if the next CPU is not as good? What would you pay to avoid that?

Another question: what price would you be happy to sell it at? Feels like $2k? Quote him. Remember people pay tens of thousands for CSGO knifes and millions for NFTs, i.e. basically pixels.
