The Z790 Dark, and Z790 Apex are essentially the two top dogs that’ll be running it.  But seeing such insane speeds on just cheaper (4) Dimm motherboards is nothing short of crazy.

OK, so it's board quality, makes sense. Z790 vs Z690 should not make a difference in theory.

A couple of fast benches to see if the chips works as it should. You'll need LN2 for AMD's latest and greatest Ryzen Zen4 to come on par with an water Norwegian snow cooled Intel chips😮 @jaybee83 isn't that correct? Or maybe I'm wrong?

44k out of the box? Be honest bro 🙂

Seriously though, 12th and 13th gen are wonderful CPUs. Should something unfortunate happen to Taiwan, at least we will have those (but no motherboards... ).

With a water chiller, you'd probably be better off directly cooling the CPU with the chiller. The TEC will get overwhelmed if you produce more heat than it can pump out, and you'll end up with the heat stuck there, even with a chiller applying massive cooling to the hot side of the TEC.

I got my MasterLiquid ML360 Sub-Zero on clearance sale for $120. It's now $100. I'd imagine their V2 will probably drop to around the same price once 14th gen Meteor Lake is released. Cooler Master's offering is an AIO, and the Peltier element they use isn't that much worse than EK's version while being much cheaper than their waterblock by itself.

How did people mod these? Did they just swap out the stock Peltier element with a more powerful one? I really want to upgrade the Peltier element on my AIO, but I don't know if I'd need a software modification to Intel's Cryo cooling software to get it to run at full blast.

I saw some 340 watt Peltier elements on sale on Amazon for around $25, and the dimensions are the same as the Peltier element in my MasterLiquid ML360 Sub-Zero. It'd be interesting if I could get it to work, but I'm not sure if the level of cooling is driven by the voltage applied to the TEC exclusively or if there's an artifical power limit somewhere. Modifying the software isn't an issue since I'm a sofware developer, but I need access to their source code. If there's an artifical power cap of 185 watts, then upgrading the Peltier element will do nothing unless I can also modify the software.

I read about it longer after they were relevant so I couldnt say since all the picture links were broken, this is the only thing I could quickly find.

The Norwegian snow is still lacking around Papusan's plaza🙂 But we have got the darn dreaded northern dark. Before 5:00 PM and we live in the utter dark here home (A living HELL). I still stand on that AMD can't compete in performance with water cooled setups. Just look on the bot.

Yep, not out of the box (that was more I talking about the SP failure due Intel's shoddy engineering on the ILM).

The use of 25% cheaper 6nm silicon paired with a small 6nm silicon could be a game changer from AMD. I hope they aren't as stupid as they did with Zen4 and AM5 platform (all too expensive).

I am going to send my 2080 Ti FTW3 to this guy for repair. This video shows him fixing a 2080 FE with the same exact problem and the same exactly memory IC location (B0).  My GPU has Samsung (not the crummy Micron IC shown in the video).

Hummmm, I picked up the Suprim X liquid and I'm not impressed at all! Memory is very subpar apposed to the Zotac "trash" card. I have a ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO still sitting there that I need to go back and pickup when I return this ROG MAXIMUS Z690 HERO.

Also found out that people with a microcenter account have 45 days on GPU return. Who knew. and 30 days on CPU's.

Looks like AMD RDNA3 packs a ton of punch  in Rasterization. It is very fast upto 4090 maybe 10-15% slower, but at 60% less cost. And 100W less as well, 2.5 slot width too no questionable trash power connectors good old 8 Pin. It also packs AV1 Decode / Encode blocks. DP2.1, The RT performance is lower, expected as they barely match a 3090. No PCIe5.0 though.

Smaller die much smaller lol,... 4090 is 600mm2, this is 1/2 !! 300mm2 imagine if AMD went 600mm2. Shame they go conservative always if they had 600W GPU like Nvidia it would blow the roof off with performance for sure.

Killer price and kick in the nuts for Nvidia for sure.

Solid value for many as the top card 7900XTX is $1000, 7900XT is $900. And RT is worthless to many, esp when we talk the GPU market it's not much on 3080+ bracket so all low end cards will be destroyed by RT also in games it's pretty much useless. A massive performance hog at the expense of very less fidelity improvement. The only title worth RT is Metro Exodus Ray Tracing Edition. All others are a joke.

They have FSR3 upcoming which is called as "AMD Fluid Motion" I hope this is not that frame interpolation that Nvidia pushed, if that's the same then it's a big shame for PC Fidelity they already ruined with this upscaling BS but now the Frame Interpolation is far worse.

Just lovely. And Nvidia has to offer more than fire, melting smoke and 1.5K cards. Even if the AMD card offer less performance than 4090 it will kill sales of higher end Nvidia cards. As a footnote... Nvidia wanted disgusting price for their castrated 4080@12GB cards. Of course they removed their scam from the release. This AMD release come at a perfect time. Hope nvidia will burn in with cards costing above $999.

I saw the pricing at the end of the event as well. While $1000 is way more than I want to spend on a GPU, I'm glad that's the price of AMD's top end card, because this means the 7800 XT will probably be around the MSRP of the 6800 XT. I'm looking forward to the announcement of the rest of their lineup.

I was expecting a touch more performance but I've spent the last few days going over chiplet limitations and new architecture woes thereof but it is still a banger with 1.7x the performance which is on par with the 4090 and they will be trading blows once again.....but the real "whoa?" the price....

$999? I was not expecting that price point. It will compete with 4090, beat the 4080 16GB and now we know another reason why Nvidia basically cancelled the $899 4080 12gb giggle fest.

For $999 I'll be picking one up definitely to play with and skipping the 4090 completely.

My best guess... AIB partners will take an advantage of the ok'ish prices from AMD. They have a big opportunity now to increase profits for the better custom 7900 SKUs.  This because custom Nvida cards is priced well above 1600$ and around same or slightly lower performance shouldn't cost "cheap" 999$. Don't expect that the gamers will benefits from more normal price points from AMD. The best gamers can do now is to buy the cheaper SKUs at 1000$ and skip the more expensive  custom cards. See... More power to the buyers. But will they? Probably  because we live in times with less money in our hands.

Actually I was thinking the same thing....And also wondering why no comparisons against the competition this time around.

Sounds a bit suspect, for gamers, but I'm just thinking out loud.

Edit:

@Papusan

I do not think it is going to kill anything off. The pricing is still part of NVidia's base model. "Always charge higher than AMD" If they buy they buy and if they don't....then we sit and wait to see what happens....

Yeah ever since popping in the 13900KF, and super fast DDR5, I’m back to being GPU limited again.

I managed to get DDR5 7800 and DDR5 8000 to post on the Unify-X. However, the supporting voltages needed to make this happen are just silly. 1.580V VDD, and 1.580V VDDQ voltage on both ram sticks. So, I am going to just work in tightening the timings on DDR5 7600 as low as I can get them.

So far DDR5 7600 C34-45-45-45-81 is perfect! Only 1.450v VDD, and 1.450v VDDQ.

The Hynix A-Die sticks are running 36C-37C.

This is how I test DDR5

AIBs can only jack up the price so far till gamers opt for cheaper models. Looking at the 4090, baseline is $1600 and the realistic top end model is $2000 for the Strix. Expect $1000-$1300 tops for 7900XTX models realistically. Both sides have a few outliers as always or specialized Hybrid/blocked models. Depending on headroom OC, AIB models may have a better go at it than with Nvidia this time around. If there's a lot of room to play with better cooling and power considering the less than expected boost clocks on the 7900, an AIB model might be the way to go for many.

In these economic times (as you allude to), a $1000 card $600 less giving you the bulk (+/- per game) of a 4090 performance is going to be an easy decision for many.

Still would love EVGA to come out of nowhere with a KPE 7900XTX.  🤪

Expect the 4090ti sooner than later.

Nvidia is REALLY going to have to upsell RT and DLSS3 as everything else is skewing in AMDs favor.

If you must absolutely have the best RT performance, Nvidia is the logical choice.

If you must absolutely have NVENC, Nvidia is the logical choice

As long as AMD doesn't crap out on the drivers, they are really going to gain ground.

Dogecoin is gaining a bit of traction.....hopefully nothing Crypto-anything grabs ahold like last time.

This fall has been an absolute techgasm with AMD, Nvidia and Intel.....I'm lovin it.

Welcome to the world of 4k gaming woes where your GPU is pretty much pegged at 99% everywhere while you CPU floats around 20-50%.....please have a seat right over here. 🙂
