What's weird is, I started at 400 then worked all the way up to 1200mhz. It was running fine at 1200mhz then when I tried 1300mhz, it wasn't stable anymore. I couldn't get 1200 or 1000 to work properly at that point but 800 was fine. Probably should have tried a restart but by then I wanted to play with 3090Ti.

This was my best port royal: https://www.3dmark.com/pr/1509397

Do a system restart or a driver reset next time. That should correct the problem. Speculations of course.

What is this run considered?

I second the recommendation on the driver reset. I know if I switch vBIOS modes I usually have to reinstall the GPU driver or the changes in voltage and power limits go unrecognized. I seldom do that. As a general rule, I just always leave it on the 1000W XOC vBIOS Vince provided, but I have observed that issue the few times I have tried using a different vBIOS.

Will still be more expensive. And you put 50% less performance on the tqble. OEMs and Nvidia rob you. Both the money and the performance.

My particular issue with this stuff is smoke and mirrors in regards to documentation which has been a sticking point since Pascal with no clear improvements in sight.

I would encourage those interested in that fight to make another BGA thread akin to what we had before on NBR.

The AMD graphics card drivers can change CPU settings in the UEFI

I stumbled across this fact when I had installed the Adrenalin 22.3.1, as always wanted to load my UV (Undervolt) profile for the 6800XT and the computer promptly asked for a restart. That was new, it wasn't like that before.

For an unemotional but correct classification: AMD’s non-transparent implementation seems a bit too much of a good thing to me. Of course, a lot of room for adaptation is always good in principle, but the software’s functions along with basic interventions in the BIOS settings have to be explained transparently and comprehensibly for the user, so that the user also knows what actually changes. Automatic changes that intervene so deeply in the system and about which the user is not informed should not really exist. Even more so when you load something for your GPU, but it actually affects the CPU as well.
This is Microsoft behaviour.

There ain't no fight so there ain't no problem. But a BGA Venting thread in the forum is welcomed.

Well fight was probably ill selected on my part, but argument/debate it was a good thread for that and would prevent this thread from going off topic more than warranted.

For those who have played around with the Clevo Pascal and Turing cards, were they good overclockers at all? If no one bids on it, I may pull the trigger on this 2070 Refresh to put in my P870. I do know it requires a bunch of soldering and heatsink modification, but I'd think it would be worth it unless they can't OC well.

I don't think we'll see the 4000 series till Q1 2023 based on industry guesses. so 8 months minimum.

But if what you have now is doing ok I would definitely wait. If I've been stuck in the no GPU zone limping by with a terrible card, I would wait another month or two for the price bleeding to stop and then buy.

For example:

I've been watching the Asrock OC Formula 6900xt on Newegg and it has gone from a high of $2299 down to $1294.99 and falling. I expect it to bottom out at $1199.99 ($200 above AMD reference model) when all is said and done and then I'll most likely pick one up new or wait for an eBay special where they are languishing already since Newegg has them listed there now too for $1294.99 brand new so sellers are going to have to come in well below that to move them. Lots of "best offers" options on the cards listed there now.

It is a buyers market that is just getting stronger daily.....finally.

Whew, look at those prices continue to fall. Mind boggling they were $2299+ last year. That is basically back to proper launch day MSRP for after market cards finally.

After conferring with the high council (namely the wife) I have to sell off some hardware before I pull the trigger on anything. I have a lot of it and will need to go partial nuclear option ala @Rage Set before I pick up a 6900xt. I'm going to skip the KS and 5800X3D and I don't want to sell my Strix 3080.

I'll at the min need to divest myself of 1 small laptop, 2x binned 10900k's (from a pile of 4), sealed EVGA 3060ti and a micro ATX 12th gen build out of a 12100f system and a few peripherals.

Yeah agree on that, some pretty heavy hitters here in that dept. I just have two and the other one is travel/backup if one fails or I have need for a second one for some other reason, mostly just sits in the bag. I don't count a really old eepc netbook which isn't even worth selling, still browses the internet and does basic word processing.

Sometimes you need threads that let people vent or speak on certain topics to keep them contained. Many forums would have a "off topic / anything goes" type thread(s) and would either routinely point users to those threads or just move messages that fell within their criteria over to those threads.

Some like to collect laptops and and/or tinker with many models. It is real popular to collect Clevos and Alienware laptops. There are some Razer fans too.

One main for tinkering and site traveling (Power rig) = X170SM-G

One for rocketry / PI (always killer battery life) = Acer Swift 3

Wife's laptop = Aspire 5

Secondary competent gaming laptop = Nitro 5.

I'll be selling the Aspire 5 during the nuclear option after talking it over with her and switching her to the Nitro 5. It's 1.5lb heavier but much more capable for gaming and with a backlit keyboard.

I use all my computers, all for different purposes as well.

Generally, I have one main laptop I use all the time, both for work and gaming. This is always the most powerful laptop I have.

In addition to this laptop, I have a desktop with similar specs so I have a backup machine with similar processing power just in case I need a backup. It's also good to have when friends come over since it serves as a convenience for them. Either they don't have to bring anything since the hardware is provided to them by me, or they get to use something good if they don't own a gaming computer.

In addition to these two machines, I still have my 3 older laptops. One I'm using for my job doing software/game development using Unity.

Another is my Alienware 17, which was my main laptop before I got my Clevo X170, and I used it for school in my last semester of college. It now serves as a backup to my Clevo X170 if I need a portable backup gaming machine.

The third is my first gaming laptop, which I used for school since I got my Alienware 17. I now have it loaned out to one of my friends who is still in school and needed more processing power for engineering and design software. I was no longer using that machine in my last semester of college.

Is your 870DM a DM1 or DM2/3? I take it from your response it might be a DM1.

Mine is the orignal 870DM. The model with the 980m or 980DT and 6700k.

I did the Ultra. Honestly should have just grabbed the black. They are “binned” according to EVGA Jacob but who know how much binning that is. I will say mine boosts crazy good at stock but that seems to be the case for all Ti chips. My guess is these are the cream of the crop chips from Nvidia to hit the Ti spec. My power consumption is actually really good as well from what I’ve compared to. But for just gaming the Black is the best bet. It’s also a metal black plate. It’s a redesign cooler and card. The vapor chamber is awesome, low memory and die temps in mid 60s for both overclocked. They also used actual thermal pads instead of that crap paste mess. Will make it easier for GPU cooler swap or repaste.

This looks awesome. Will try when I get home from a trip.

How much for the 3060 Ti? Also which mATX board?
