TLDR Imbalanced draw from the card.

Defective, idiotic and failure-prone design that never should have seen the light of day. Everyone should be very angry with NVIDIA and blame them for all of the burned 4090 and 5090 graphics cards.

Hmmm. With all problems we have seen with 5000 series don't be surprised we will see firmware updates that also will impose castrating max TDP or/and lower voltage target. Nvidia done that with the 4090 Fe if people remember the past with the revision change. Nice, done.

On top.... This won't help on fill the stores with the lacking 5090's. And I'm sure nvidia now is even more keen to keep the 5090 on hold.

Nvidia have one of the best engineers in the world but still can't do it right. This is just sad. This tiny cute PCB is form over function bro @Mr. Fox Asus didn't have any choice after being the leader in melted 4090's. Hence they created a half baked monitoring solution.

My older post about the FE design. And did you  remember what I said about double up with those tiny connectors? From der8auer's video you see he mention the PSU side of the cable being even warmer than the GPU side. Yup, with double up of everything you have the tiny trash connector plugged on the PSU panel.

Is double up of everything that's bad, always safer or better than the half? Nope.

Yes that too. Some people that were having black screens and the GPU  not detected found the problem resolved by setting Gen4 manually.

Gen5 seems to have too many caveats associated with it and it is an unnecessary technology that really has no practical benefit.

I was able to find the bios option for setting slots to Gen4 but it did not make a difference.

It looks like the performance issue in Timespy is related to hyperthreading. With it disabled the results for the GPU test are in line with other CPUs. This was apparently also an issue with the 4090 paired with these Xeons as well.

On another note I am using the same Corsair 2x8 to 12VHPWR that Derbauer used in his video. I am not sure if the AIB cards are any better at load balancing the power draw through the pins but its definitely concerning.

theyre heeeere 😄 32TB of M.2 NVME PCIe 4.0 goodness mwahahaaaa:

PXL_20250211_215026329.jpg

sniped them on ebay for ~490€ each, all of them new 😎 will test throroughly of course before putting any of my data on them. idea is to put them in RAID 10 so ill have 16TB of space with extra redundancy built in. depending on the respective failure, thatll allow me either 1 or 2 drives of failure while still maintaining data integrity 🙂

im currently on 2x4TB and 2x8TB separate partitions that im doing regular mirroring on (once a month roughly), so this new config will allow for realtime mirroring plus quadruple read / double write speeds 🙂

now i just need to wait on a toolbox i ordered, since im missing Torx size 1/2 bits to be able and take off the heatsinks....

We are all gonna be buying xx70Ti cards in the near future. Nvidia is slowly making the “High End Flag Ship GPU” so expensive that only the rich will be able to buy such a lavish graphics card. Scalpers gladly pay $5,000+ for the 5090 already. And this pushes the mid range GPU’s to $1,000+ range easily. So, in the next 4-5 years, I can see the 6090 or even 7090 ranging from $8,000 to $10,000 plus. This will put it out of reach for 99%. And these high end systems will begin to be only for those with high end wallets. I cannot afford a Ferrari, and I cannot afford a 6090 either, so I’ll probably be buying a 6070 for $1800.

In all honesty, I was thinking about making some T-Shirts and putting the words “Stop the abuse” with a cancel sign over Nvidia. Because we are literally headed down a path where there is no Return.

They’ll be Nvidia dealerships soon where we walk in and put down 20% now and finance the rest for 5-6 years, maybe they sell us a warranty in the finance office since Nvidia builds such shabby products anyways 😂

But yeah, the 4090/5090 will probably be the last hoorah for the avg man.

I actually already experience this same glitch with my 4090 GPUs when connected to my 4K 120Hz ASUS display. Sometimes it will even stop booting with the Q-code for display not connected. It never happens with my 1440p 165Hz screens or 144Hz 1080p screens. If I connect a second screen with lower resolution to the same system the 4K monitor will be ignored during POST and display output will go to the 1080p or 1440p screen initially and the 4K screen will not begin working until Windows finishes loading the GPU driver. This is random. It does not happen every time I turn the system on, but often enough that it annoys me. When it first began happening I could not figure out what was going on.  I shared this with someone in a thread on overclock.net quite some time ago and it turned out to be their problem as well. It sounds like maybe it could be more common with 5090 than it was with 4090. I tested numerous overpriced display cables and it happens with the cheapest as well as the most expensive high end cables, so that was ruled out.

I think this might be the most botched up NVIDIA product launch ever. They should be the one company least likely to screw up based on market share and revenue. I think they suffer from the same problems that the technology industry as a whole suffers from. (1) they flat-out do not give a rat's ass about the people that buy their products, or the quality of the products they sell to those people, and (2) their goal is to charge as much as idiots will pay while providing as little value and quality as possible in return for what is spent on those products. The fact that they released 50-series with the crappy 12VHPWR (or whatever they have renamed that abortion currently) instead of learning from their mistake and going back to 8-pin is more than ample proof of the reality of #1 above as it relates to NVIDIA.

I am not sure that they are pricing things for the wealthy as much as investigating where consumer capacity for stupdity maxes out. I think a large number of the people buying overpriced computer parts are not wealthy and a lot of them that are buying would not even be able to buy except for their access to revolving credit enabling them to live beyond their means. I suspect that ludicrous pricing of 50-series, and the 40-series GPUs that came before, are a marketing experiment designed to identify the threshold of stupidity for the average consumer to gauge how far they can push the envelope on prices while simultaneously learning how low the quality and performance bar can fall before their overpriced trash stops selling. Pretty much how A$$zeus has operated for a very long time. As long as we keep spreading our cheeks they will continue to financially sodomize us.

I think Nvidia is making the same amount of GPU’s on launch that they always did. And maybe that’s the issue. And just Nowadays there’s a world full of PC gamers/Streamers/scalpers that we must contend with, and they’ve never really increased that demand. I never would have dreamed a graphics card would become so popular. I almost bought a Aorus RTX 5080 Waterforce WB model with the waterblock. It was $1,509+ tax. But I hesitated and it sold out. I didn’t feel right paying 4090 prices for something that’s not a 4090 at all lol. Less VRAM, and less speed.

If the current pricing of used 4090 and 4080, 3080 and 3080 TI and 3090 and 3090 Ti video cards is an indicator even that approach will ultimately prove to be foolish. The only video cards that can be purchased at a price consistent with the benefit of owning them are the obsolete models that were undesirable the day that they launched because of unimpressive, underwhelming and lackluster levels of performance.

Hopefully AMD will exploit this foolishness with reasonably priced GPUs that are not made for bottom-feeders in terms of performance. These won't even need to be great GPUs. They will only need to be "OK" in order for AMD to walk away from this with a major win. If they milk it the same way on pricing as NVIDIA they will merely become another contributor to the problem by selling grossly overpriced trash that most people don't want.

My ideal scenario was to snag a 5080 FE and a 5090 Suprim or FE (hence my screen shot on launch day with both queued up). Play with the 5080 FE especially that form factor and engineering beauty (assuming I got a Suprim instead of an FE.....SUPRISE! Neither for me! (NO SOUP FOR YOU!) 🤣) and then either sell it or pass it down to replace the wife's 3080.

Market factors = me using the 5080 FE, but I gotta admit, it's a compact, beautiful banger of a card that is fun to OC and has a lot less chance of blowing out your power connector. I'm running into CPU bottlenecking almost on the same level as my 4090 in WoW and FO76 at just stock.

In what world do you buy a $1600+ (w/ tax) 5080 when you already have a 4090? That was the right call.

If you even contemplated that, you go get a block for your 4090 and call it a day.

It’s the mild after effects of brain washing is all. I’ve been dreaming of getting my hands on a 5090 Aorus Extreme WB. So when I see the replica version as a 5080 Aorus Extreme WB in-stock. I’m like, I can buy this card and complete my build! lol. But then I started to actually think about it 😂 and was like, ummm yeah no..

I’ll get a 5090 eventually. Though this stock issue is a distraction sometimes.

@Mr. Fox Everything will go well. Good luck tomorrow old friend 🙂

All the talk about 5080 custom card cost above $1200 USD. What with 5070 Ti at +1200$ ? More appealing? Those will sell out as well.

We’re screwed lol. This reminds me of the 3080 selling for $1200 or so. Now it’s just a tier below in GPU class. Give it a few more years, for the “Ultimate Nvidia Dream”

#1“Gaming is a high end luxury for the wealthy Per Nvidia”

#2 RTX 5060= $699 USD

#3 RTX 5070= $899 USD

#4 RTX 5070Ti= $1200 USD

#5 RTX 5080= $2000+ USD

#6 RTX 5090= $4500 USD

BestBuy had a drop of 5090's and 5080's I got in line twice. It was a swing and a miss both times. This is ridiculous...

Yep I tried for one too for ya. The MSI site has been horrible. Very unreliable and constantly hammered by the demand. BTW they have the Titan 18 with 285HX and 5090 as coming soon for the low price of $5999!

Yeah Best Buy is a joke. I got in line like 5 times, one time I sat in line for 10 minutes or more and I felt like I was going to get it only to be let down. Also ,MSI is INSANE!

PS: All of the best buy 5090's and 5080's that were sold today are all on eBay already being scalped.

Which models did you queue up?

I slept right through the drop knowing it was coming lol.

I have some serious road travel ahead of me while a couple of buddies house sit for me, so I mapped out every MC on the way (about 7 of them. 10 if I really want to go off course) I'm going to stop at every one just to ask if they have any 5090s and maybe take a pic of myself in front of each one. Add a bit of fun to break up the monotony of driving. Plus the randomness of their trucks pulling in at all times of the morning to afternoon. Total dynamic chaos at its best.

Just my luck the only one available will be a stray 5090 Astral LC.....

The writing was on the wall with Asus early release prices for their 5090 scar laptops coming in at $4200. Everything is going to be crazy priced with inflation, tariffs and demand all in play.

I was in Queue for 5090 FE 4 or 5 times. I have actually just set up a best Buy bot as of typing this with Auto Verification and Auto Buy. So, I am hoping I can just sit back and buy one now at this point.

There was like 3 different drops I think. I saw the 5090 sell out, and come back in a few times. We are contending with scalpers 97%, and 3% people who want a 5090 to own and use. All of these cards just go right on eBay after someone buys one. Pretty sad.

I'll be curious to see how the bot works out. Imagine all the other bots out there competing along with Best Buy releasing in waves and regional only which is a blessing and a curse.  Hopefully you're using a remote service or set up a proper proxy so your IP doesn't get flagged from BB.

That is how BB always does drops. They release in waves over the course of a few hours. Then come the dreaded regional ghost drops which stand zero chance of going through.

My 5080 FE was a weird fluke. I hit the buy button then it timed out. I thought it didn't go through but then ~90 min later I got an update that my card had been charged and an order confirmation.

I'm in that frame of mind if a 5090 happens across my way and it is the model I want, I'll snag it because why not? But on the other hand, I'm not just going to grab whatever presents itself especially since my tech budget took a couple of big hits in the last month (9800X3D combo, MSI 18 raider).

You have to understand too the FE models have always been the most desired of all the cards the last 3 generations (5090, 4090, 3090). Why? I dunno, but I was able to snag the 4090 and 3090 FEs in due time.

My order is officially based on price first now:

#1. 5090 FE because of price ($1999.99)

#2.MSI Ventus because of price ($1999.99)

#3. Suprim because if I'm paying a premium, it will be the card of my choice. I don't care for any other MSI model in the  premium space

It still boggles my mind that the Suprim 5090 is $1k+ more than the Suprim 4090.....

I still have major reservations about the 5090 FE due to repeated insane reports of coil whine and auxiliary electronics noise. It is crazy how many people with them are complaining versus other brands. Other concerns are the temps and constant fan noise even at idle most times.

Hmmm. 5090 up for sale on the used market here at home. Only $5,060.32 USD for the MSI RTX 5090 Gaming Trio. 13 people have already signed up as interested. This is disgusting. The world is filled with stupid people. Even here home. This is just sad.

People with more money than brain destroying the tech market. Can we get back lobotomy? Mapped to fix stupidity. Can use AI for that.
