I have some serious road travel ahead of me while a couple of buddies house sit for me, so I mapped out every MC on the way (about 7 of them. 10 if I really want to go off course) I'm going to stop at every one just to ask if they have any 5090s and maybe take a pic of myself in front of each one. Add a bit of fun to break up the monotony of driving. Plus the randomness of their trucks pulling in at all times of the morning to afternoon. Total dynamic chaos at its best.

 

Just my luck the only one available will be a stray 5090 Astral LC.....

 

 

The writing was on the wall with Asus early release prices for their 5090 scar laptops coming in at $4200. Everything is going to be crazy priced with inflation, tariffs and demand all in play.

Does this means MODDIY now will use thicker wires than specs or that they used thinner wires than 16-gauge for their custom 12VHPW cables? If it was thinner than 16-gauge wires then they have lured the people to  buy trash for their 4090's. Hmmm... Me buy this... Nope.

As an overclocker and heavy power user. I can say that PCIe Gen 5.1 seems okay to me. I haven’t ran a 5090 yet. But with my 4090 and 666W bios with no fans I have seen my connector reach 38c temps, and the wires reach 59c hottest under gaming sessions that last hours and hours, this is with no fans blowing on the GPU, and partly because the 4090 blows hot air on it, because if I increase my GPU fan speed and remove “Auto” the wires only run 40C. Since I use my system for work daily. I really think that this design works okay. It’s just unfortunate people are having issues with it. But I haven’t, so I can’t complain at all lol. 
 

The thought of this one little cable delivering all of that power is kind of amazing. I assume the 5090 will stress this even more, with even warmer temps. The RTX 5090 really needs like 700+ watts to comfortably flex its full potential in 4K gaming. 
 

I am grateful that nothing has melted. Fingers crossed it stays this way with my 4090, and potential future 5090.

After my first foray into using the Cablemod 1.0 adapter that failed with black screens on my 4090 Liquid, I am more than content to use the proper supplied tentacles that puts the entire chain of ownership on the AIB if anything goes wrong. I have zero desire to take a chance purely for the sake of aesthetics.

 

I rocked the tentacle on my 4090 for almost two years and I'm rocking the tentacle now on my 5080 FE.

 

I saw the bot watch results of BB drop earlier, and apparently it was the 5090 FE, 5080 FE  and the rest were five variations of the Gigabyte 5080 (Windforce OC, Aorus Master Ice, Gaming OC, Aorus Master,  Aero SFF OC)

 

Even with a bot, there are better, faster and quicker bots out there all ready to pounce on those 5090's along with individuals just refreshing and queuing and hoping.

Okay, I gave in and pulled the trigger! 
 

Singularity Computers Dual D5 V3000+ Plus Distribution plate. I optioned mine like this: The D5 covers are silver, and the accents and back cover are white. This matches my case perfectly! $330 shipped with taxes for a Dual D5 distro custom to my case is not BAD! I would have paid more for two tall individual reservoirs actually lol. 
 

This build is gonna be CLEAN!!! All 16MM hard tube, all black EKWB 16MM hardline fittings throughout, HWlab GTX/GTR white 480mm radiators. I’ve never done hardline before. I also bought a heat gun. I have everything else I need besides fans. I’m still deciding on those 😂 I want all white, and no RGB.

Ruin their ability to profit and basically only allow them to sell at a loss. They do not deserve to experience how a free market economy functions because they are exploiting stupid people. Should treat them them same as people that take advantage of mentally handicapped people.

Super tired feeling right now. I am glad I took tomorrow and Friday off LOL. According to the doctors and nurses present for the procedure I missed my calling and should be a stand-up comic because I was making them all laugh with the things I was saying when under anesthesia. And with the newest 3.1 specs you aren't forced to add the tiny 12V-2x6 connector on the PSU panel. Payback time for stupidity....

 

This seemingly solved the problem, as the warning light disappeared. However, the display resolution and refresh rate dropped and the graphics card switched to PCIe x3 mode. So, they decided to shut down the PC again and reconnect all cables — this was when they discovered that the GPU’s power connector had melted on the PSU side, with the GPU side remaining unaffected.

 

And the mods on nvidia reddit forum is so fragile. Paid by nvidia? Lets not talk about melted nvidia cables, LOL

The individual(s) responsible for the introduction of the ludicrous new connector and all of the ridiculous "improved" versions that followed should lose their jobs. The person that gave the final approval for it should also be stripped naked and caned and a video recording of the caning posted to YouTube and on the NVIDIA.com landing page with an apology from Jensen and an offer of the original owner's choice of a full refund of the original purchase price including tax and shipping or a free replacement of all GPUs built using it offering a direct replacement with four 8-pin connectors for 4090 and 4080 Ti, three 8-pin connectors for 4080 and two 8-pin for everything below 4080.

 

Alternatively, NVIDIA should extend a 10-year no-hassle/no-questions-asked and exclusion-free warranty guaranteeing full refund of the original purchase cost to the original purchaser (including tax and shipping) with proof of purchase, or the MSRP base price of the model in question to anyone that is not the original owner or has no proof of purchase, if the GPU connector melts or any of the pins get bent or broken from seating the connector with sufficient force needed for the latch to engage. There would be no exclusions for end-user modifications or cosmetic blemishes and NVIDIA would reimburse AIBs for the cost of warranty fulfillment plus 20% to cover administrative costs associated with the fulfillment process. This would allow NVIDIA to only incur expenses for GPUs that actually experience a connector failure and have a warranty claim presented within the 10-year window.

 

Since the 50-series launch has already proven to be a massive failure, they shoud recall all 50-series sold, (which seems to be a very small number globally,) destroy all currently in production and re-launch with only 8-pin connectors. If they want to leave the crappy new connector on the FE card, that's fine because it's the one model that everyone should avoid like a plague anyhow due to its stupid failure-prone design. It's poorly made and absurdly overcomplicated. NVIDIA should cover 100% of the cost of destroying and retooling for all AIB partners to replace the 12VHWPR connectors with 8-pin, plus an additional 20% to help offset lost revenue opportunities caused by the delayed release. If they want to re-use the GPU cores already installed on cards before destroying them, the the cost of the labor to de-solder, transfer and test the repurposed cores should also be reimbursed by NVIDIA.

 

NVIDIA has enough wealth to cover all of these costs without making a severe dent in their bottom line.

 

This would also deliver an added bonus of causing extreme financial harm to all scalpers that snatched up gobs of GPUs, which all of them deserve. At best, they would get their money back...eventually... assuming they had verifiable proof of purchase from an authorized seller. At worst, the pallets of GPUs that were obtained from stolen shipments or fenced by unethical distribution channels would result in them getting nothing at all and having nothing to sell but recalled models that the world easily identifies as defective units to be sellable as "parts only" GPUs.

Two 480mm rads so far. Black and white is GTR, all white is GTX. This Lian Li V3000+ can easily hold (4) 480x60 radiators. So, I might go with all four I’m still deciding!

While either one of these will run circles around any other radiator available. The GTR has some extra performance available for high RPM fans above 2,000RPM. While the GTX is gonna perform better with low RPM fans. 
 

Just one of these bad boys in push/pull will out do most (3) 360mm rad setups. 😃 It is pretty miraculous how good these radiators really are. (3) will outperform a big external rads. A million of them would never out perform a chiller 😂

If you wanted to do something equally stupid, you could downgrade your 4090 to a 5080 (new unopened) if you buy the one posted on overclock.net marketplace for the ludicrous price of $1800. The seller is legit guy, but it was tough to resist calling it out as scalping. He is probably just trying to get his money back. He probably paid close to that idiot price for it.

One of my Hardware Lab 480mm radiators leaks. I did a leak test on it, and I can set 0.50 Bar, and that leaks down to 0.25 bar in about 2-3 minutes. Then It leaks down to 0.00 Bar in about 30-45 minutes after that. What a shame. This was a “Clearance Item” sold by PerformancePC’s so clearly I can see why it was on clearance sale (Someone returned it maybe) lol. But I’m not sure how they didn’t catch this. 
 

This radiator would probably work fine in a build without leaking, but you’d be slowly sucking air in to your loop which is really annoying. It would make your pumps noisy, and it would slowly pressurize your system. What a shame..

Probably won't because stupidity (the new standard for normal) usually wins. NVIDIA needs to be burned badly for bringing trashy burning connectors into production.

 

We (consumers, not you and me per se) have ourselves to thank for high prices and poor quality. When the sheeple buy crappy products and pay too much for them, the crap continues to be sold for more than it is worth. We need to learn to say "no" and really mean it... and mean it enough to be really mean about it.

I don’t think it’s QC, but just shipping damage. My exterior box was not damaged, but the inner box was certainly damaged a little.
 

You can see the box pushed in, and the big dent, and some separation in the welds where the lower tank is welded to the radiator core. 

This makes me think it was damaged during shipping from Hardware Labs TO PerformancePCS. And then they shipped it to me already damaged not realizing it was like that. Also, it was marked as “Clearance model”

 

But they already shipped me a new unit today. The new one is not a GTR, but a GTX. So I’m fine with that. Very good customer service! They didn’t ask for this one back at all.

Cinebench scores aside (thanks to 16 slower Atom smartphone cores) the more I use both of these systems, the less I can tell them apart. They are so close to one another in most things that it is nearly irrelevant.  Too bad the Atom cores can't handle 5.4GHz all-core. That would allow it to soundly beat the 9950X but the 1.0GHz handicap on half the cores and threads tilts the table in favor of 9950X for CPU compute workloads.
