A bit of a bummer of the current GPU market is that it has even inflated the prices of older GPU's as well.

Every now and then I like to look around for random older GPU's that I missed out on when I was younger or cards I had back in the day. Couple of years ago I bought a GTX 295 for 25 USD, now they want around 100 USD, GTX 590 at best is the same price. Cant even see that many HD 6990's.

Settled for a Arctic Accelero Xtreme 5970 cooler for one of my 5970's for now. Was able to get a couple of arctic coolers for my GTX 690's a while back so I guess until GPU prices come down i'll revisit aftermarket coolers.

9800X3D tuned to the bone and seeing 99% GPU utilization in Dornogal for the first time ever 4k Ultra 10 RT enabled w/ the 5080.

With this setup, so many spots the 5080 is being capped at 99% vs the 14900KS even with player data which usually hits the CPU/RAM pretty hard causing utilization to drop. The better the CPU and tuned the DDR5, the better utilization is with player data in WoW.

I have some spots in the game I benchmark in Hallowfall which removes player data/CPU bottlenecks naturally and can cap out a 4090 even to 99% easily. That's where I tested to realize the 4090 is ~10-12% faster than the 5080 in WoW stock for stock.

Definitely want a 5090 to see who wins the cap out wars.

I also want to test a 9070xt against my 7900xtx data especially with RT on.

Here you can see how important China/Asia region is for  big US tech companies. Their first press release/special event come here in China and not in the western continent with US or Europe. Increased tariffs imposed from US governments or not doensn't really matter. Because the consumers in the western regions will pay the price increase from the tariff war/trade barriers.

Intel lists Panther Lake listed as Q1 2026 launch, but early enablement will start this year

During a special event in China, Intel presented its latest Core Ultra products as well as the current roadmap. The company claims to be launching the Core Ultra series, codenamed “Panther Lake,” in Q1 2026.

Edit. Please delete. Thanks.

Yup. No reason to upgrade. And you don't even need to pay for the extended service for Win 10 to keep it secure. Just use the LTSC version.

And, the good part is that you don''t even have to install LTSC/ioT Enterprise. (I hate how that sounds so stupid... LTSC was a more intelligent name, but we're talking about the Redmond Retards, so I digress.) Just convert to LTSC/ioT Enterprise with a PowerShell script and you're good to go. https://massgrave.dev/#Method_1_-_PowerShell

Soon, I will likely be offering members of this particular thread free decorative fan grills (all you have to do is pay the shipping). I am currently testing the best materials to use, as some filaments are prone to warping or even melting under temps above 50 to 60C.

Here is an example that I like https://www.printables.com/model/562113-skull-fan-grill-120mm I am also designing my own.

It's everything relating to tech now, but GPUs are the worst example of it. I am about fed up now. Very seriously considering selling off the Z790 Apex build entirely, including the MO-RA radiator/pumps assembly, 5 gallon reservoir and water chiller. I know if I do it will be a massive loss. I can't ship all this stuff because it is all too huge and extremely heavy. Someone will have to drive here and take it away. I spent all day yesterday getting my work PC ready to sell (the Edge build with the direct die EK AIO) and assembling my new "work PC" to replace it. I got a cheap B850 AORUS Elite and 9950X to go with the 9070 XT. I feel very fortunate to have purchased the GPU at the appropriate price and the mobo dirt cheap. More to follow once I get done and ready for work tomorrow. Still have to finish setting up the new work PC and clean up the mess before tomorrow.

I am also seriously considering putting the air coolers back on both 4090s and using a cheap AIO. If it doesn't cool well enough I will just run stock or at a lower overclock.

I cancelled the X870E Apex pre-order. I got to thinking about it and it's kind of pointless with a Ryzen CPU. Judging between the Gene and the cheap B850 AORUS Elite, there is really no difference to speak of because AMD has limited overclocking capacity either deliberately or the architecture itself is limited. Why pay $800 for an awesome board if the outcome is going to be the same as a POS motherboard?

Diverse threads grants more exposure for the forum, and allows for threads to retain their topics. Only posting them to 2-3 threads reduces visibility and muddies the waters for parent threads.

You clearly put in a lot of effort in posting news, All that I ask is that you make the attempt to put it where it can go.

I look at it this way, if the current stuff is boring then it gives you a chance to go back and experiment with the older stuff, maybe pick up a tip or trick here and there which might serve you well in future XOC experiments.

I have mostly been tied up with homelab related stuff but I still keep looking for stuff from 10-15 years ago to pick up. Hard to believe a 4870 x2 is around 200+ right now lol, but it ebbs and flows I suppose.

I might pick up a single 5870 just for some tri-fire. Common knowledge of the era is Crossfire will be stronger than a 5970, perhaps the arctic cooler can allow me to OC it to make it a better pair with an HD 5870 at least until I can source another Arctic Cooling heatsink for another 5970.

I sure will. I agree. I kind of hate to part with it, but that's a sickness I am trying to cure myself of.

Trying to decide what case to use now. I've got in on the open bench until I decide. Probably going to go with a Montech AIR 903 MAX, but I don't want to make a snap decision. I don't want to spend a lot. I don't want something too small or something too large. I really wish the ASUS Prime A21 would fit an ATX mobo. It's perfect otherwise. Clean, classic plain aesthetics and well built. I probably won't find a better alternative than the AIR 903 at that price point.

The B850 AORUS Elite booted my TeamGroup XTREEM 8200 memory XMP without any hiccup. So far it seems to perform the same as the Gene. That's why I changed my mind on the X870E Apex. I am using dual NVMe cards in BOTH of the extra PCIe x16 slots and the GPU is still running PCIe 5.0 @ x16.

If anyone remembers me commenting about my 4K ASUS 144Hz monitor having issues booting with the Apex / 4090, it is definitely something weird with that monitor. The 9070 XT would not boot connected to it. I had to use HDMI on a 1080p display when I initially set it up. It boots fine connected to my new Predator dual 4K 160Hz monitors. What is weird is the 4090 and 9070XT will boot from it fine after connecting the display in Windows, until I clear the CMOS and then it hangs during boot on both systems. That's just weird. I don't know if it is an EDID problem or what. It's annoying to have to fart around with that. I'll probably get rid of it and replace it with a Predator display like the two I purchased.

I haven't done any testing with it yet, but this AORUS Elite 9070 XT GPU is built like a brick house. The GPU support bracket bolts to the chassis (motherboard tray I think, but I haven't studied it closely enough) and then bolts onto threaded inserts in the end of the fan shroud. And, this sucker is really heavy. I'm both shocked and impressed by the build quality. It's actually made better than the Gigabyte 4090.

The Aorus models are “Slightly nicer” than the Gigabyte models. Even though both are Gigabyte. It looks very nice to me though. I love those 3x8 pin power connectors. Great looking GPU!

FedEx showed up, but no 5090’s on the truck. Looked like an unmarked delivery van. Dang…Not looking good.

Yep, not bad when we see how the prices are in other places around the world. Still, awful pricey.

Not sure I want that. I'm an collector of rare cards. I would prefer to keep it. And never dumb have a newer card as spare. And I won't get a better card if I need more than the 5090. Put it this way... Buy two 5090's won't happen 🙂

Grabbed the ASUS GeForce RTX 5090 ROG Astral LC OC - $2,966.35 USD today. 1 out of 3 card was available for the whole scandinavian market (4 countries). Next delivery of 5090 cards from the retail shops... Unknown.

Loads of 5070's is ofloaded today here home. And a few 5070Ti and 5080. I see there is still  3 out of 10 pc of Asus 5080 Astral OC available for purchase here home now 6.5 hour after the slip. $1660 USD. I think Asus have reached the limits what they can sell their 5080 flagship for right now. I doub't they increase the prices in the pace they have done. And no other brands 5080 is listed yet you can buy Asus 5080 cards. That speak loudly about the price point Asus want. As a side note... Gigabyte want $1730 for their best 5080. Not sure what's up with Gigabyte this gen cards.

The cards should be delivered to Papusan's plaza within the next 5-7 days. And exactly the card I tried to buy.

Man, that’s the top king 5090! And a great price too. Be about another +$1,100 more USD HERE FOR SURE. Great price.

I just finished my build, I’m doing another leak test real quick just to be 100% certain this thing doesn’t leak. I got lazy and threw the flow meter, and filter on one single tube lol. It works!

(Temporary coolant is distilled water+some primo chill mix stuff) (Gonna run for a bit, drain flush, then add Koolance 702 as permanent coolant)

Time to add some distilled/pre treatment mix to circulate for a bit, then I will flush and add the permanent coolant after 24 hours running. I’m doing everything I can up front to make it ready for my future neglect. 😃

Here you go. Nothing optimized, just running with other programs and things active during work. For some reason I could not get the upload to associate with my UL account. It appears to be associated with no one. I tried to upload it again and it got rejected as a duplicate.

dude, congratz! im jealous, although the stream of 5090s available for purchase has been quite constant recently, MSI cards are few and far between. most of them are basic zotac / gainward / palit cards, which i have zero interest in. and the few MSIs are either ventus / gaming trio or the liquid SOC. the only place im seeing the air cooled SOC is on ebay, ugh...

im like you in this regard, when spending such a huge amount of money i damn well sure get the card i actually want!

anyways, my 9950X3D will be arriving tomorrow, so thats nice at least 🙂
