So, MSI Afterburner OSD shows the external clock. Which is greatly inflated. If I go by these measurements my card is a 3.3Ghz+ queen everywhere. But the internal clock is only 3.1Ghz+ range. 
 

GPUz also only shows external clock. HWinfo has both. Nvidia Overlay shows internal clock only! I had no idea all this time, I’ve been thinking my clocks are much lower than what they actually were. 🙂

You have to let that go. The clock that matters is the average clock. Not the clock speed you set. Nor the max clock that is shown.

 

Side note: This card's max voltage is 1.09V

So which one do you go by? You use MSI Afterburner OSD? So if this is the case. my care completely stock runs 2,880Mhz in games. Which I had no idea. 

I am curious to know how the astral is. Man, you are on your 3rd 5090 now? 🤣Nice!

The first card a customer was like. I'll take it because he could get a card for months. The second card was a place holder for today when I checked the website and bam! they said they had 12. I got card number 8. And I traded in the PNY, but not before getting a 200 dollar rebate for the cards price drop. So far, I like the card alot. So much so I got accidental damage warranty so I can shunt it and feel comfortable. 🤣 They even asked me. John, you plan on tearing this card up and put it on water as well. I said yep~!!!

 

So far though, I really do like the feel and look of the card and it over clocks nicely. 

 

GPU effective clock is the one you are after. Run a benchmark in window mode and watch what that clock does. The closer you get it to the clock speed you set. The greater the reward.

 

The guy asked me about my 14900KS I bought from them a few weeks ago. Asked me if I delided it already. I was like, not yet. but I think I'm going to pay my man @Mr. Fox to do it as I don't have the tools for that.

That's what I have been going by since my 4090. The Nvidia overlay uses the GPU effective clock speed just like HWinfo does(Only I did not know this). My FE does a great job with keeping up high internal clock speeds considering how dang hot and tiny it is. 

You seriously need to shunt that card. If I had a block already, mine would be done. Lucky you, you have a few block choices already available for blocks, I think.

Not sure I want to spend more money on computer parts right now. And not much time for it now. All to much to spend on the house rehab and other peripherals for the house. I also thinking about a robotic lawnmower. But that's also equal pricy as the +$3000 graphics card.  And then I have to set aside money for our usual one mont summer vaccation outside Africa. 3.5 months go fast. 300-500 USD here and there will be a lot money in the end. 

 

Same vram clock cap also with Hynix. You lust got a love nvidia.

 

The next level of stupidity will be capping the core clocks or remove the voltage slider from working with new Geforce drivers as they did with Maxwell graphics cards. Nvidia just make it harder and harder to love them😒

Yeah on all my Astral 5090 screenies and benchmarking results reports, ALL I use is Nvidia's monitoring tools.  My last big post with the card comparisons for the 5080 and 5090 was all Nvidia's tools. You gotta figure they know their hardware better than any other external monitoring tool and it works well enough for my needs to a point. Go back and look.  I just customized the screen read out because I like it to the left, vertical and in red w/ a larger font but that's Nvidia's statistics reporting utility (Alt+R baby).

 

I  use AB when I'm doing fps session grabs to get average framerates via Rivatuner and/or usually overclocking, albeit I used PX1 for that last session for both the Astral and FE.

 

For AMD, if you go back and look at some of the first DXMD pics, you will see AB and Adrenalin on screen at the same time.

 

Using Nvidia's OSD, I'm hitting 2745mhz on the 5080 FE stock and  3030mhz OC'd 99% util in WoW so based on your older posts, that is right in the neighborhood of your stock clocks. Both our FE's have subpar voltage caps at stock.

welp, seems like i killed the 9950X3D 💩 delidding went down pretty smooth, but i think something about the TG HPHS install sent it into oblivion. after lots of troubleshooting i swapped the 7950X back into the socket and after many attempts it finally booted up (apparently the mobo asks if the cpu had been switched and one needs to manually confirm that. however that message didnt show up, just blackscreen. found out about this "invisible message" online and just attempted a blind confirmation via kb, it worked 😛).

im relieved that the mobo is still functional and also LUCKY that i still have the 7950X around (its already on sale on ebay but no buyer yet).

Go by your results. You're overthinking a good, solid, average very well priced card. Just enjoy it. I can't imagine stressing this much or coming at it from so many directions to extract water from a rock. I would just focus on the price, aesthetics, potential lack of coil whine and the fact it IS a 5090 and keep it moving.....

thx for the kind words bud, i feel like an idiot 😛 trying to remember how many cpus ive destroyed thus far in my pc lifetime... aside from 1-2 cheapass budget cpus to hone my vice delid skills (back in the day there were no resdy made delidders, had to help urself 😄) i think this might be my very first cpu haha 😛 storage, mobos, gpus, even ram, have all crapped out on me before, but not cpus. in that case it was about time i guess?! 😄 

 

anyways, ill first have to check and see what i got with the new cpu before deciding on delidding. itll hopefully get delivered by tuesday. problem is also time constraints, this weekend was basically a golden opportunity to do the cooling upgrade for cpu & gpu, not sure when the next time is ill get this chance #familylife

Thats a great run. I cannot hit more than 15.3k with mine. Not only is my Founders Edition model in the stock format holding me back, but my current platform is holding me back by about 500 points at least. My stock score is like 13,800. I just cannot get Rebar working. And PCIe Gen 3. I think it's getting about that time to retire the Dominus/3175x soon.

Hummmm, do you have links to any of your scores? PR?

What driver did you use?

And not sure the FE is really up to snuff this round with the 5090. (I could be wrong) What FE's have you seen holding spots near the midrange to upper levels in the ranks? Including the ones that may have been shunted. Also to note, i'm only speaking on benchmarks. The card seems perfectly fine for gaming. Benchmarks are about scores while gaming is about FPS. And just because it might be 0.03 FPS behind does not mean a card is trash. 😂

And why is nvidiainspector not working on your card? You are using the new version that has the rBar settings right?

Too many small limitations on the FE this time around. I know I dig in on ya for fun (light hearted ribbing), but the FE will not be setting the world on fire this iteration.  It's strengths lie elsewhere (aesthetics, engineering, compact size, price). You notice the Gigabyte vBIOS coupled with the Astral too. Like @johnksss said and to further I keep pressing is a 5090 FE  is still a 5090 and a monster card out of the box that will lay waste to everything out there and blocked and 1 stage shunted you will extract every bit of performance out of it to let it flex as hard as it can but even in a game of inches it will still fall short due to several factors compared to the top dogs. It's not a knock on it at all and I hope you're not taking it personally bro. 🙂

 

And you are spot on with your rig limitations. It's fun and nostalgic and has its pros and country charm but it just can't keep up with modern hardware from your former 14th gen platform to an AM5 platform. Even a 285k will outpace it to extract as much performance as possible from your 5090.

 

Now you get to think about what you want to move to next. Back to 14th? 285k looks like a lot of fun to tune up. AM5 is a proven winner.

No one has shunted FE yet, I have not seen one. I think everyone is being a sissy about taking them apart lol. No blocks available yet, so I think most people are waiting until they have a block before shunting the card. I think shunting and re-mounting stock cooler is probably pointless. 

So, with my motherboard Nvinspector forced or not, I physically cannot enable Rebar. I have tried to modify the Dominus bios and dump the Rebar file on the latest bios, then flash the new modified bios, then enable rebar via CMD. And it just won't work. I lose monitor signal after setting the rebar size limit with the Rebar.exe tool. Physically impossible to make Rebar work on the Dominus which is the stupidest thing man. Because the SR3 Dark actually supports Rebar. 

So, with a slight PCIe Gen 3 bottleneck of 3-4% and No Rebar which cost me about another 2-3% these two things are of course setting me back on Steel Nomad severely. I should be sitting much higher than 15,350.

Totally forgot about the board being that old, but I was also under the impression that rebar could be enabled on boards that did not have it in the bios. I would have lost that bet.

 

Might be time to rent a system to cure your curiosity. To see first hand how much you are missing. Or not missing. 🙂

 

So lots of big talk Fe owners but no one wants to be first? And shunting it and putting back stock, nothing wrong with that. Just don't go over board on the over clocks and just watch the temps. Then when the blocks are ready, grab one and you are already good to go. Speaking of which, my EVC2 and shunts should be here some time today.

 

Other alternative.....dump the card and grab anything other than an FE.

Sell it for MSRP plus Tax and shipping and call it a day.

Running some tests comparing the wife's 3080 10gb Strix vs the 9070xt in WoW. She plays at 1440p, but I tested both at 1440p and 4k. I'm thinking of cancelling the 5070 and giving her the 9070xt instead. Problem is in WoW I think the $549.99 5070 will plant itself much closer to the $729.99 9070xt than the 3080 in WoW. I'm also not sure the uplift is worth the disruption at this point.

Sorry to hear about your CPU Brother @jaybee83. Something similar happened to Brother @Raiderman. I delidded his 9950X and tested it out. Everything worked great. I use the TG Mycro direct die block. He had issues with contact and thermals using a die frame and regular waterblock. He removed the CPU and when he put it back in the thing was dead. It has nothing visually wrong with it.

 

By the way. I finally found a 48GB EXPO 8000 kit and it is totally stable in the Gigabyte Master. It's on the QVL as well. I believe it is a new SKU. All other 48GB memory I have tested on every AM5 motherboard was unstable. G.SKILL and TeamGroup Intel XMP kits were never stable even with all manual tuning.

I am almost done with the projects. My tiny office has never felt so big, LOL. I still need to install the IceMan dual D5 pump in the O11D XL EVO. I just ran out of time so I slapped a single Byksi pump along with the Alphacool pump/res. I am going to have to fabricate a bracket for the dual D5 pump and just didn't have enough time or energy left to fuss with it right now. I also still need to delid the second 9950X CPU and install the second TG Mycro block. I'll probably do all of that at once in a couple of weeks after the Alpahcool Core block for the 4090 Suprim gets here.

 

So, the O11D XL EVO turns out to be too small for push/pull with the fat radiators I installed.

 

Heatkiller rads in top and bottom, Alphacool X-Flow in the side next to the mobo. Using the awesome Montech Metal Pro fans. I really like these fans. I have some in the Gene build as well. Since I have extras due to not being able to do push/pull on the O11D XL EVO I am going to use them to replace the inferior fans in the Gene.

I have a Phanteks with backplate.

 

It was almost going to go on that 4090 LC I had last month, but that card ended up going back.

 

Oh man, that does look nice. I might have to order one of those.

sounds very familiar, i was also struggling with proper contact and seating inside the socket. im suspecting that maybe there were some micro / hairline cracks in the silicon that destroyed the cpus in both cases, this due to uneven pressure. thats the difficult thing when having several pieces of silicon and not just a single large centrally located one on the substrate.

This  design made it very hard for me to embrace Ryzen and I still really hate the design. It is an idiotic approach to processor design. They only pretend to care and listen when it is necessary to recover from a slowdown in revenue generation.

The most egregious of them all is the healthcare industry as profitability is grossly incongruent with offering optimal, financially sane care for American citizens.
