This is disgusting. So sad to see end days of PC building. It’s becoming an ultra high end boutique hobby.

Before long I will be changing hobbies.

I think muscle cars or getting in to shooting more would be far better hobbies.

When I was a young man, before getting married and having kids, tactical and assault weapons, hot rods and motorcycles were my hobbies. I cannot see myself getting back into cars and motorcycles again. They've also gotten to be ungodly expensive (more so than computers have) but I could very happily get back into guns again (tactical and assault, not hunting) and have a blast, pun intended. The lefty lunatic goofballs are trying hard to ruin that too, just as they ruin everything that is good.

Yeah I just can’t see my self getting a RTX6090.

I think of it like this, the RTX4090 cost $2,500+ so the RTX 5090 is at least +80% more expensive at $4,500 dollars. So we can only assume the RTX6090 at launch will be fetching  $8,100+ dollars. And after it settles down probably closer to $7,000 dollars.

So $7,000-$8,000 dollars. I cannot see anyway possible it would be less expensive than that.

Are you going to get one?

I think the gun hobby is the way! We could go buy a Barrett M82 50bmg instead! Or maybe automotive performance parts. Or even exotic unrealistic home improvements.

High end GPU’s are dead forever it seems like.

They’ll start building NVIDIA dealerships locally and we walk in and test drive the new RTX7090 and finance for 48-72 months with interest! 🤦‍♂️

I predict that someone invents an AI processor, like like what happened with Bitcoin miners replacing GPUs, and NVIDIA files for bankruptcy. The bigger they are, the harder they fall. As much as I do not like Radeon products, I think NVIDIA deserves to die. I am not being hyperbolic in saying that. IMHO that is what they deserve.

I really wish this would happen.

It’s crazy how CPU’s and motherboard are hardly impacted. I mean we have CPU’s like never before. We have the 270K plus which is super affordable. We can buy brand new or used X870 or Z890 Apex boards for dirt cheap.  Even DDR5 is kinda do-able. Or we can find deals. My 6000c26 NEO kit for $430 bucks isn’t crazy at all.

I think the PC hobby may just become one without a top tier GPU.

This is the growing theory and something we discuss in a few think tank groups.

Right now, Nvidia has such tight vertical integration they rule the roost. They also lead in performance but the integration and software is key.

Rest assured, AI focused companies like OpenAI, Claude, Anthropic, etc... are working towards common stacks to integrate ASIC for hyperscalers to get off of Nvidia's teet along with smaller operators. On the other hand, you can see the writing on the wall with China and them slowly, but surely, moving everything in house or how DeepSeek took everyone by surprise showing a potential future of better optimizations and larger, wider scaling.

Right now, Nvidia is IBM circa 1975-80ish but it won't last forever. AMD is working feverishly on their next gen AI products. Nvidia is entering the CPU foray because they realize eventually CPUs will increase in importance for AI performance in the long run.

We're still in the wild wild west phase atm, but the moment normalization/common models are established and/or open standards, Nvidia is in trouble. Throw in some ASIC level computational processing? They're in REAL trouble.

One thing that won't change is the need for high bandwidth memory but a sudden and abrupt shift in needing expensive GPUs to ASIC like devices like what happened with crypto mining would be beautiful to behold.

Right now, I wish the 5070ti (even some 5080) and down potential customer base would all switch to AMD for the cost savings alone and when Nvidia looks up, they've lost major market share going forward for when that day comes but as we saw with the last market reports, Nvidia actually gained back half the market share they lost to AMD in the consumer gaming sector.....crazy.

Still 5090's here home.... But the stocks are tightening up. The real scalpers is back. $5000 USD ain't enough. Far from enough🙄

Nvidia's RTX 5090 vanishes from online retail in the US

Gaming takes a backseat as Nvidia overhauls the RTX 5090 for maximum AI margins

The RTX Pro 5500 features the GB202 silicon, the powerhouse die that powers other high-end mainstream and professional Blackwell graphics cards, including the GeForce RTX 5090, RTX Pro 6000, and RTX Pro 5000. In fact, the RTX Pro 5500 uses the same die as the GeForce RTX 5090, which means 170 Streaming Multiprocessors (SMs) are enabled out of a possible 192. As a result, the RTX Pro 5500 has 21,760 CUDA cores and offers performance comparable to the GeForce RTX 5090.

My new to me rams came!! MBPC.GG is totally legit. These bad boys were $429.99 which is amazing in today’s horrible hardware era. We shall play a game called “Limbo” and I’m going to run them at default 6000c26 Expo profile with merely a 65k tREFi and start taking voltage to see just how low they can go!

@electrosoft After some testing on these 6000c26 rams with their stock Expo II timings and I only changed the tREFi to 65,535 I set 1.38v VDD and 1.35v VDDQ in bios and they are SOLID! They are definitely a decent enough bin. I will add this as well, this is with my weaker IMC X3D chip, my other CPU should run them with even lower VDD!

Wow! 5090’s sale for $8,000-9,000 USD now.

Checkmate on the consumer grade 5090 availability. 😞

Now at least we know why 5090s have been drying up AND prices going up. If AI shops are converting 5090s to AI farm cards as is and with extra memory, why not just re-direct those 5090s into RTX 5500's with 84GB of memory which is close enough to the RTX 6000 with 96GB of memory and charge $12k?

Scary thing is if demand doesn't abate, all pricing will continue to scale upward..

Demand is so high, and memory capacity so important, that they are now scavenging their top end consumer grade GPUs.....

We already have the RTX 4500 using the 5080 (GB203) die with 32GB of memory for $4500. If Nvidia decides to bump that to 48GB+, we could see a sudden shifting of even those dies at this rate.

Just wow.....

That is a hard NO. I mean zero chance.  Zilch. Nada. Nunca. Nyet.

I wouldn't even pay $4k let alone $7-8k for a 6090. I can't begin to tell you how hard it was to swallow that $3399 I paid for the Astral which I LOVED and returned purely based on price alone. Snagging a Vanguard for sub $2k and a Ventus 5090 for $2k last August was lightning in a bottle.....

I'm kicking myself for not keeping the open box Ventus 5090 for $2k from last August 2025.....  🤣

You might be kicking yourself a little too for not holding onto the 5090 FE considering how much the net now.

But everyone has a breaking point and if 6090s are $3.5k+ at launch which is A> Extremely conservative and B> Assuming we even get 6090s seeing as how the 5090s are being redirected into AI sector level cards due to demand, who knows? Who even knows if we get a 2027 launch as 2028 is looking more realistic unless AMD brings the high heat (which rumors are still saying YES).

It really feels like Nvidia is trending pricing up and next gen the 6080 will slot in right where the 3090 used to be price wise at $1499.99 and it will be basically our top end card next go around. 4080 Super is basically on the heels of the 5080 so a performance bump for the 6080 to maybe 5090 next time or at least between the 4090 and 5090? More AI tech as it refines to continue to boost performance and visuals while working on latency. Meanwhile, reserve the top end dies for the RTX 6500/7000 class cards for AI.

But yeah, when we get to the point of $5k+ 6090s at (paper) launch and memory kits hitting $1k+ for 2x16GB let alone CPUs and MBs combos of meaningful SKUs hitting $1.3k+ it is time to downsize and look to longevity of current hardware if that.

I can see a time where I sell off everything, quietly step down to 080 (or lower) tier hardware and mid tier  CPUs and GPUs and work with that with these crazy climbing prices. Once you adjust your enthusiast POV, you suddenly find yourself building out much cheaper systems that are quite capable.

I'm to that point I won't even spend more than $3k on a PC laptop tops and even there I tend to trend lower than higher. I had the opportunity to pick up an MSI Raider like @win32asmguy has but it was $3650 + tax and I walked away especially in light of the $1800 for this G16 which takes a major performance hit (~18k TS vs ~26k TS) but is holding it down at half the cost with a 9955HX3D inside.

My costs incurred this year for problems and issues is mind boggling from incidentals to a financial and working stake in a small start up. The hits just keep on coming. 🤪

Quite honestly, the smart move for me is to sell off almost everything and pick up a Studio M5 Ultra w/ 96GB as the 48GB in my (albeit contractor issued) current M4 Max is hitting a wall for the small startup I'm involved with as a side project atm.

Whoa! Very nice and a good price in these trying times! I'm glad to know that site is legit and I'll be adding it to my list of places to check out on the regular, good find!

Do you plan on putting better heatsinks / water cooling any of your sticks? You already have a good loop setup so it would be fairly straight forward to get them running uber cool.

Our local MCs still have these in stock along with a few 5090s namely the GB Infinity for $5400 and I saw an Astral 5090 AIO for $5229. I just checked and there's a couple white Astrals for $5k+ but I also saw a 5090 TUF for $4699.....because that's kinda a "deal" atm? Ugh....

MC sells the Asus bundle for $10829 = ~$11.5k after tax. That. Is. Insane.

so my 1 1/2 year old son figured out how to open the magnetic side panel on my corsair 9000d. next he decided to pull out one of the hard tubing causing coolant to spill everywhere.

nothing was damaged thankfully, but I did learn my pump only runs like 50% most of the time even with cpu on full load, causing high temps. I fixed that and well this is what happens next lol.

None of them (NVIDIA or AMD) are genuinely good products that are priced to value. They're all grossly overpriced, flawed, poorly designed and compromised products that are destined for premature failure and fail to perform adequately based on what the pricetag suggests they should, including 5090. The current GPU market represents the most horrific example of poor value the world has ever seen. If something goes wrong, there is maybe a 10% chance your warranty will be honored, because the companies that build them are universally dishonest. Totally not worth the cost. The 4090 is better than 5080, but if you can even find one for sale it's nearly as overpriced as 5090 (double what an overpriced 5080 costs).

Yeah I probably should have kept my 2 RTX 3090s instead of selling them. Turns out they would have lasted awhile longer , but my RTX Titans are fun too. Still need to do the shunt mod. i forgot if it was @electrosoft who sent me a picture of the mod.

I saw you were rocking an AMD system. It's unfortunate Intel didn't release the W790 platform with a sibling for a true HEDT successor for us "normal" people. I bought the motherboard for $949 on "sale" at the time. I was lucky to find someone selling a QS CPU for less than half of the $2899 MSRP for the CPU. 128GB RDIMMs before the rampocolypse for ~$700.

Overall it came out a bit more than a i9-7980XE platform did back then but this platform screams Mr. Fox especially with the X unlocked CPUs.

Nothing like overclocking +1.3Ghz on water pulling over 500w of power. 😂
