Reciever
I would never buy prebuilt, I do tend to buy used almost exclusively. That being said I havent bought a desktop in a while. No need. If you still have your laptop, you could also look at eGPU's provided you have an 11th gen processor, they are much better since TB controller is embedded in the CPU now so one of the issues cutting into efficiency was resolved under those scenarios. 4 1 Telegram / TS3 / Twitter 2700X to 5800X3D upgrade! XMP1 and XMP2 both fail TM5 testing and increasing the voltage does not help. Tested with both the Z690 Dark and the Z790 Apex and the outcome is the same on both platforms. It is ridiculous that the only DDR5 modules that have been good enough to keep are my generic green sticks and the G.SKILL 8000 kit I already own. electrosoft
So I finally got around to hooking up the test Asrock B650M board I picked up for $85 from Amazon Warehouse. Good news is the board was basically brand new but had a damaged box. Hooked everything up in the test case. Bad news? Welp, it's not my 7800X3D as everything booted right up. I'm going to run some more tests but won't get a chance to break down this one and re-retest the MSI till after the holidays but all indicators are pointing to the MSI X670E carbon at this point as I ran, swapped, reseated and tested everything under the sun with the MSI before yanking it to swap in the 13900ks + MSI Z790i Edge. Slight cluster of discolored pins on the 7800X3D were just that.....in theory. Looks like I might get to take the MSI RMA train for a spin at this rate..... 🤣 2 3 Electrosoft Alpha: SP109 14900KS 59/46/50 | Asrock Z790i Lightning | MSI Ventus 3x 4070 Super| AC LF II 420 | TG 2x24GB 8200 | Samsung 990 Pro 2TB | EVGA 1600w P2 | Phanteks Ethroo Pro | Alienware AW3225QF 32" OLED Ellectrosoft Beta: Eurocom X15 Raptor | i9-12900k | Nvidia RTX 3070ti | HyperX 3200 CL20 32GB | Samsung 990 2TB | 15.6" 144hz | Wifi 6E Heath: i9-12900k | EVGA CLC 280 | Asus Strix Z690 D4 | Asus Strix 3080 | 32GB DDR4 2x16GB B-Die 4000 | WD Black SN850 512GB | EVGA DG-77 | Samsung G7 32" 144hz 32" My for sale items on eBay. What are you trying to accomplish with the purchase? Get into the desktop hobby? Get a machine that will outperform Geforce Now? Both? The problem with the prebuilt is you might not be actually getting into the hobby, if that's what you desire, and would consequently fail to obtain a stable base for future improvements (case/PSU/cooling/SSD that won't suck). Given your budget, would try to put together a solid basic system, even without a GPU initially - you can run your GeForce now off an iGPU (or a $100 second hand card) for a while, then start hunting for a GPU. 1 1 "We're rushing towards a cliff, but the closer we get, the more scenic the views are." -- Max Tegmark AI: Major Emerging Existential Threat To Humanity
ryan
I enjoy benchmarking, and yes Geforce Now isn't quite there yet with 4k, I was hoping to get a system with a decent gpu(3060ti-6800xt) and a good cpu then upgrade to a 4090 down the line, I'm not a huge gamer but enjoy gaming once in a while and would like to run horizon 5 and motorsport at 4k with decent settings, currently I can only run 1080p at 30 fps in motorsport and 4k-medium at 50fps in horizon 5 with my 3060, It's mainly the Vram as my bottleneck 9 times out of ten at 4k is the fact it has only 6gb and these games will eat 8-10gb easily. and welcome back. one other big reason for me is the crew motorfest, it runs like dirt on my 3060 at 4k, sure I can tweak settings and get 30fps but this isn't 2007 30fps isn't acceptable or enjoyable. heres the game at 4k on GFN it looks good but is clearly blotchy at a distance 1 1 ZEUS-COMING SOON Omen 16 2021 Zenbook 14 oled Vivobook 15x oled

If you are not comfortable, and actually excited, with/by the above then fair enough - prob best to stick to the prebuilt/laptop space. Additionally, given your budget, you would probably need to add: "I am happy to assume/would enjoy the risk of hunting for second hand components on the internet" - doesn't quite apply to me for instance. 2 1 "We're rushing towards a cliff, but the closer we get, the more scenic the views are." -- Max Tegmark AI: Major Emerging Existential Threat To Humanity
ryan
I would like to build it my self, Its just that buying all the parts one by one then putting it together, I have no idea if all the parts will be compatible and fit, I literally know next to nothing about desktop building, my last desktop was back in 2002 alot has changed alot has not. Im leaning towards buying it bit by bit and agree thats part of the fun, lol all fun and games until something explodes. I just get paranoid and don't have much money to risk. Im looking for work and might get back into trading stocks. Prebuilts are affordable and thats basically it, no other reason to buy one. I want a 4080 laptop but at 4grand I would rather have a 4090 system and although GFN is slick with its 4080 power it just looks and feels off after a few hours into gaming, the glitches with graphics and latency is a pain and its only useful at 1080p/1440p. If gfn ends up improving 4k then I will likely stick to that for my casual gaming hobby but the itch to benchmark new hardware and be on the bleeding edge is still a priority. 2 ZEUS-COMING SOON Omen 16 2021 Zenbook 14 oled Vivobook 15x oled
Etern4l
There is very little compatibility risk, mostly around the case and cooler/AIO I guess. I mean just build a component shortlist and post it here for all the vets to vet it. Would be very hard to go wrong that way. 1 1 "We're rushing towards a cliff, but the closer we get, the more scenic the views are." -- Max Tegmark AI: Major Emerging Existential Threat To Humanity
ryan
Excellent. I am excited to get this going, but i'll still have to wait a month or two. Do you think a i5 13th gen is good enough for 4k/60 for the next 4 years(not being the bottleneck) im behind on desktop knowledge when it comes to cpus also. on the laptop side 8 cores 16 threads is long in the tooth i will likely need fast(4-4.5ghz) 12-16 cores. 2 ZEUS-COMING SOON Omen 16 2021 Zenbook 14 oled Vivobook 15x oled

And how many stupids bought the v1.1 and will use it thinking "newer has to be better" @ryan🤐 until it melt down the cards. Hope Cablemod and their shilled mods can't ban me in the nvidia reddit forum. Me is all too honest🙂 Or can they bro @electrosoft? Yup. Some don't like that you are honest. Will see if CM will un-bann us honest people, HaHa And if you have followed CM reps claims about their "safe cables with the 12VHPWR connector" don't suffer from same melting... I would mentally block off thoughts around future-proofing - that is a hopeless road to anxiety and analysis paralysis, sort of more applicable to the laptop world. Just look at the most bang per buck setup you can afford today (or in 2 months). If you need more power further in the future, you will be able to upgrade the CPU (and mobo if needed, may not be the case). 1 1 "We're rushing towards a cliff, but the closer we get, the more scenic the views are." -- Max Tegmark AI: Major Emerging Existential Threat To Humanity
ryan
I just got a call my from insurance adjuster. Im not to blame for the accident officially so I should be getting some money the first week of jan. Super excited, I get my van fixed(or replaced) and some cash. I might still go budget but at least ill be able to get a 3060ti build going for 1500. Im thinking a i7 14th gen and skip the gpu, save then drop cash on a 4090 suprim or hof. I would really enjoy some games at 4k, when i do get gaming I find it relaxing and somewhat enjoyable, I just have a hard time sitting down and forcing myself to continue for hours as I did when I was a teenager. As for future proofing, when does the 5090 come out? eta? it might be smarter to just stick with a 3006ti and wait. As for cable mod, it aggitates me reading about it because they are such A's and I can't imagine how frusturated bro @Papusan is. 5 ZEUS-COMING SOON Omen 16 2021 Zenbook 14 oled Vivobook 15x oled
cylix
@ryan aren't around you or in Canada some small firms, or PC Firms that are doing pre-builds but with normal components? No dell, HP, lenovo propietary crap? Maybe they can also have some open boxes, return items. Like this for example, this is an online shop/firm in germany that are doing a lot of prebuilds with normal components and easy to upgrade down the line. 2 7950X3D| Zotac 4090 AMP Extreme Airo| MSI MPG B650 Edge Wifi| Lian Li Galahad 360 V2| 48GB GSkillTrident Z RGB 7600|Kingston KC3000 2TB| Fury Renegade 2TB| Lian Li O11 Dynamic Evo| Corsair HX1500i| Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo Asus Zephyrus G15 (Ryzen 9 6900HS + RTX3080)
ryan
hey @cylix. always appreciated when you guys help. I can do a build with memoryexpress.com its the same as just buying the parts but instead of me piecing it together they build it for you for 75 bucks. might be a good idea and just do the upgrades myself and then do the building once im familiar with desktops. the price with a 3060ti or 4060 still comes out at around 1400-1600. its hefty for me as I don't even drop that kind of money on laptops 2 ZEUS-COMING SOON Omen 16 2021 Zenbook 14 oled Vivobook 15x oled
Tenoroon
Hey fellas! I've been slammed with school and preparing for university but it's finally my winter break. I can finally get around to pushing a 4930mx to its limits. I purchased one off of Ebay for pretty cheap about a week ago and it just arrived. I'm assuming it's had a good life as it looks significantly better than the old one... If any of you remember, the old one died. It still works, but the iGPU is FUBAR'd. It artifacts like crazy and gives false temp readings. While I wished I noticed this earlier, when inspecting the old 4930mx recently, I noticed that the die was chipped in the lower right corner (If you have a keen eye, you can see in the picture above). Knowing where the chip is can explain the iGPU damage. If we look at a Haswell die shot, we can see that the chip in the die lines up with where the iGPU would be: Within the next few weeks while it's still freezing outside, I'll be trying to push the new 4930mx. I'm trying to think of how to go about cooling it. I'd like to ditch the Cicichen cooler for a big tower cooler, but I don't know how to go about mounting one. (Maybe I could take a blade to a cheap desktop Haswell CPU to get the IHS and place the IHS on the 4930mx and put a bunch of weight on whatever cooler I use and hope it's enough pressure.) I could also always mod the Cicichen heatsink, but there's not too much space to add anything and it would probably need to be lapped. I'm still thinking about everything. Any suggestions would be appreciated. 5 1 Clevo P870TM-G: Core i7 8700k @ 4.8ghz | Clevo RTX 2070 Super | 32gb HyperX DDR4 @ 3200mhz | 17" 1440p 120hz B173QTN01.0 Screen | 256gb Samsung 850 EVO | 500gb WD Blue SSD | Prema BIOS Alienware 17 R1: Core i7 4710mq @ 3.619ghz 741 CBR15 (834 CBR15 @ 4.213ghz) | Dell GTX 860m | 16gb HyperX DDR3L @ 2133mhz | 17" 3D 120hz LTN173HT02-T01 Screen | 256gb mSATA SSD Asus Zephyrus G14: Ryzen 7 4800hs @ 4.2ghz | GTX 1650 | 16gb DDR4 @ 3200mhz | 14" 120hz LM140LF1F01 Screen | 512gb NVME SSD
