That is a really nice chip. It's what a 14900KS should have looked like. That is about 150mV less than what the 14900KS I am returning would have needed for the P-cores and the E-cores could barely handle 4.7GHz.

Here's this...

Nice! That's what a decent median 14900KS should always look like not the ton of lower tier samples that are popping up.

Personally, those 14900KS SP112 and up monsters are looking nice and SP119+ are just insane. I remember seeing so many choice 13900K and 12900K chips and going "whoa!" Then the KS top 10% variants come in and just shut the door on all those 13900k and 12900k chips. History will repeat itself of course. 🙂

Central Computers 14900KS arrived today. I left it on the desk for a minute, I really didn't want to open it, almost sent it right back. But my curiosity got the better of me, and I cut it open. I hate but also love that feeling.

Hope it goes smoothly man! I got lucky on both my 14900KS it seems. Honestly, I've had a pretty decently average to crap streak before these 2 CPUs. My 13900KS was total and complete garbage. SP101 and thankfully I had the MC warranty. After 6 months of use that chip actually degraded and then fully died shortly after. I got a full refund in store. It was wild. Never had a chip die like that, but it was a truly terrible sample. My 14900K were all just average or slightly above IMO.

So getting this 14900KS feels like a relief of finally getting a good chip again.

Well, yours is better than mine, but considering some of the horror stories I am seeing I think I did better than some folks. I was hoping it would be better, but it could certainly be a lot worse. It's not bad enough that I can get away with sending it back, and trying to exchange it for a better one might end badly.

I think ASUS needs to make some changes to firmware because my LLC tuning isn't having the expected effect. VID stays high no matter where I set the DC_LL.

Not sure if it is relevant or not, but mine is also made in the USA.

The numbers seemed OK, not great, on the surface, but as I began testing it the voltage needs were beyond insane. Along with the temperatures, it is essentially a downgrade and unusable unless someone is OK with embracing 103°C load temps. It might be OK on DICE, LN2 or cascade, but not worth having on water cooling. Even with the chiller keeping the water at 16°C the temps were totally out of control.

I hope Central does not give me any hassle with the return/refund.

We're early into the 14900KS Xmas day unboxing joy, but as a month or so passes and samples continue to trickle in, we're going to see some prime lovelies.

@tps3443 R batch is about as perfectly balanced and good as they get especially on his chiller even capped. It's a great chip both high (desktop) and low (laptop).

Maybe....As lot's of folks love to brag about how great the specs are on paper (or in this case, SP rating and super low voltage), but in reality it might just be that or the operator is unable to get it to perform. In that case those particular users need to get run-of-the-mill chips instead.😆

Yes, his setup is shutting a bunch of folks down and the standard rebuttal is as it always is. You have chiller this phase that LN2 this dice that, delidded with liquid metal blah blah blah. He already showed them what an average chip can do. Something I was doing many many times over with the right cooling setup. At the end of the day it's how cold you keep your chip as to what it's capable of doing. This is 80% true while the other 20% falls on hardware/software/tuning/bios issues.

Personal opinion only.🙂

Edit:

And don't even get me started on what @Papusan has done and doesn't have any of that but cold outside air.🤣

100% agree. It isn't always what ya got but how ya use it.

Delid it, throw it on a chiller DD and suddenly the variance between high and low SP narrows greatly under real world conditions and pushing them quite nicely.

I do think many want to see good samples on AIOs because that is what they run so they can personally quantify and qualify the chip compared to their own cooling and sample run (personal system variances notwithstanding). I LOVE seeing chiller and LN2 runs and seeing these chips pushed while also accepting I run AIOs so I can't directly compare the results with my own chosen cooling but it would be nice time to time to see some of them tested on AIOs first then moved to DD/chillers to not only document the difference between the AIO and DD/chiller on that particular chip but to also compare somewhat directly. Then again, you can't demand someone to take the time to setup and test a chip on an AIO before moving to their own preferred cooling method.

I do not see the argument for disparaging @tps3443 setup (or yours or @Mr. Fox) because one is not running it though. That doesn't make any sense.

Oh and I definitely remember you taking average chips and pushing them over on the old forums. Those were some of my favorite posts.

I don't even delid anymore. The tools and blocks is expensive (and difficult to find here) and no one want to buy colder running chips on the used market due no more warranty. You have to play with what you have. But I still get decent results compared to many others with the much better silicon (some even overspent to get the best you can get, but still can't get it to fly). Hmmm,  can't be due the SP quality I got... Because what I have got from Intel the two last years, sucks.

The people that worry about warranty will be pleased to know that if they need to make a warranty claim they will have to lie to Intel and tell them the CPU and RAM (including XMP) were never overclocked or tuned because Intel's position is now that any form of overclocking the cores or memory or running outside of default spec, that there is no warranty. It is void. Intel doesn't care what people do. If you load BIOS defaults on an ASUS motherboard (which is not Intel spec) and tell Intel the truth, ASUS has voided your warranty for you.

And is there an difference between the SP ranking between the 14th gen K and KS ? Because I see the SP for the E-cores looks worse for the KS. Almost half of the posted results show well below SP80. If there is same SP ranking, it looks very bad for the E-cores on the KS.

Flashed to latest beta bios waiting for the KS. Default bios settings (no XMP) and stock CBR-23 (priority at sub normal).

Edit. The KS looks more and more disgusting if this SP calculation is correct. New record breaker from Intel's binning team🤮 Anyone seeing SP95 or lower?

The people that worry about warranty will be pleased to know that if they need to make a warranty claim they will have to lie to Intel and tell them the CPU and RAM (including XMP) were never overclocked or tuned because Intel's position is now that any form of overclocking the cores or memory or running outside of default spec, that there is no warranty. It is void. Intel doesn't care what people do. If you load BIOS defaults on an ASUS motherboard (which is not Intel spec) and tell Intel the truth, ASUS has voided your warranty for you.

Everyone say they haven't oc'd their unlocked Cpu's🙂 Used 13900K for around $520 here home.

Today must be my lucky day or something. I came home from the gym tonight and had a box at my garage that I was not expecting. Pretty large heavy box, I look at the label and it was for me and from a company I ordered an Item from back in early September 2023 lol. I actually had cancelled the order after an extended backorder after it was listed as "in stock" and ready to ship when I ordered. I had waited a few weeks of back and forth with the company, and eventually just asked to cancel and refund. They did and that was that, I got my money and moved on.

Well turns out, they overnighted the item to me? Almost 6 months late and we cancelled the order? Either way I now have an AIO water block for an RTX 4080 Strix/TUF that I have no use for lol. Looking at it, it does look like the quick disconnects can be used for something else? Maybe look into a waterblock from alphacool? My initial plan was for the 4080 TUF that was pretty decently golden and had that unlocked vBIOS for the high voltage limits. I might just send it back to them, I'm not sure what I'd use it for TBH. As long as they give me a shipping label and what not.

At least MSI has the fundamental decency and basic common courtesy to not bundle ME filth into their BIOS update and leave it to the discretion of their customer to decide whether or not to download and flash the cancer update. I flashed the latest BIOS to my Z790i Edge, but it was my decision whether or not to ignore the fact that there is an ME update.

Not only that, they allow downgrading ME to an older version if you want to. Don't like the ME update they made available? Not a problem. Download an older version directly from your product support page and flash it. No fuss, no muss.

It is inexcusable, disgusting and shameful that ASUS does not give the choice to the people that step up to the plate and fork out big bucks for their overpriced CPU-killing motherboards to do the same.

I decided to go back to BIOS 1501 on my white Apex and I was able to downgrade the Intel ME version to the proper version for 1501 using the MSI ME Update tool for ME_16.1.30.2264. Completed without error, and now I don't have the latest cancer. Thanks, MSI. 👍

Instant performance boost with older ME...

Also better memory performance. 8400 runs like 8600 and has lower latency with older ME.

Nope. But the options from others is bad/worse. Hope they will get stiffer competition from the other OEMs with next gen. Remember you can have above 100GB ram with two slots boards nowadays. And they will pop up for sure for next gen chipset. Msi have already pushed out a tiny 2 dimm OC board for China. Sadly it is a baby itx board and low end phase design. But next gen... More will come. And Asus will need to fix their QC as well. Their reputation is already sinking as a stone thrown in the water.

Much easier with jokebooks. All of them is pure cancer so I avoid all of them. I don't want any ot them. Can't be easier choice than this.

And neither do I like Microsoft (same problem... You have almost no other options than use their OS). Also Asus shine brigh and ugly into this mess. Cancer meet cancer so to speak.

They are all part of the problem. None offer solutions. They live to promote AI (Skynet) and a Godless planet where it is OK to say, think, do, be anything you want as long as it does not involve honesty, integrity, morality, decency or freedom to express opposition to a depraved world view or a perspective that is contrary to their agenda. In a society where no behavior or belief is wrong and everything is OK, only disagreement is unacceptable and expression of opposing views is intolerable.
