Apex and Apex Encore share the same EC and ME version number, and the ME version did not change from 0071. The only changes (again the same version numbers for Apex and Apex Encore) are updates to EC 0142 and Intel MC updated to version 123.

Thanks. Did you compare latest official bios 2002 for the White Apex that contain Intel microcode 0x123 with the new beta bios that also come with 0x123 ? Or was the older bios version with the better Aida memory speed with an older MC?

If I understand you correct.... The only difference was MC 0x123 for the new beta vs your older bios?

In short. Did you compare bioses with same MC 0x123 ? Sorry if I didn't understand you correctly.

@Papusan I do not know why the XMP profile runs slower, but after manually tuning with the same settings the performance is essentially the same with new beta BIOS. Maybe ASUS changed some default values for XMP that made it slower if 14900KS MC strength is not better across the board than non-KS. This is fine.  Still need to put these modules on water. Still getting too hot with TM5 stability testing using only fans to blow on the RAM.

No, I did not see any reason to because some were complaining their VID/Vcore was higher and previous memory tuning no longer stable. Since I was stable I decided to  skip it rather than invite unwanted drama. New BIOS (like most things) is often worse, not better. Best to only update firmware when hardware compatibility is added or something broken got fixed. Otherwise, it is only for people that are scared of the boggie man coming for them without "security" patch crap. (You already know this, so I am only answering your question if I tested the previous firmware with the same micro code.)

I am going to begin testing when selecting the older micro code options in the BIOS soon to see if 14900K is slower than 13900KS in Cinebench at same overclock due to cancer micro code mitigations that I do not care about having mitigated. They should be the same, but 14900K/KF are always just a little bit slower in Cinebench and wPrime with the same P/E/Cache and RAM overclock values.

ASUS always providing only "Improves performance" for release notes is just a lie to entice people into flashing newer UEFI filth.

These were my BIOS settings on the Encore with 0071. Since we are warned against applying prior version CMO profiles, I set everything the same manually on the new beta BIOS and I cannot tell any difference. Seems the same to me so far.

Thanks. All Dell Alienware have short circuits. Every single of them. And many of them have dead CPU when they come into the repair shop. Fantastic. And don't blame Intel for this. It's all on Dell. So no wonder Dell is big regarding offer their customers extended warranty for huge premium. Disgusting? Yup.

I got me one on the way too. 😂 I shouldn’t have. But just could not resist it. Maybe you or I will hit the lottery!

Im gonna run it up against my 14900KF R batch. We’ll see how it stacks up.

Looks like these are VERY VERY limited stock. I got one from Central Computers with 2 day shipping. Looks like Newegg is tacking on the usual +$30 scalper up charge.

The elite/fab clockers will as usual get the top of the cream. They got their handpicked chips long time ago. And your KF is an KS. Intel couldn’t use that cpu due faulty iGpu🙂

Of course Intel wasn't keen push out review samples before it was almost to late for review on launch day. 100C all over the place. Could you compare with the single core boost with same monitoring software?

test-intel-core-i9-14900KS-cpu-overclock

https://overclocking.com/labo-le-i9-14900ks-est-dans-le-labo-mais/

We only received our copy this Tuesday at the end of the day, so it was impossible for us to offer you a complete test on time.

And this is just stupid... Maybe Intel have no 14900K in stock to compare with?

Intel didn’t benchmark the 14900KS against the 14900K. But the company did test the chip against its direct predecessor, the Core i9-13900KS, which launched a year ago with a 6GHz top speed.

The catch is that the 14900KS was running Intel’s Application Optimization feature, which is designed to further improve performance on supported games. For now, the APO feature is exclusive to the 14th generation desktop line.

Intel Application Optimization (APO) is also expanded, where this now supports a total of 14 game titles.

Whose CPU is this? Is it from the Skatterbencher video? (I am at work and cannot watch for now.)

Wow, 6.2GHz with only 1.418V is crazy good.

Central Computer has them for $699.

I ordered one. They have a 14-day return policy (does not cover shipping cost) so if it is not equal or better than my SP117 13900KS or SP102 14900KF it is going back for a refund. There is no point in owning it if it is not better than what I have.

If it is worth keeping then I will sell my SP108 13900KS and the two dead 13900K/KS and cover most of the cost. If it is not an upgrade, I will get my money back. It would be stupid to pay extra for something less. It is interesting that people pay money for dead CPUs on eBay. I sold two dead 10th Gen CPUs on eBay for over $100 each a couple of years go. I don't know what they do with them, nor do I care. It's puzzling though.

Yup. And the Cpu is picked up a few days before launch (for try out). Not what people should expect. Remember Intel have snooped up average 14900K for the binning for the KS (+100$ profits for each). Then you know what you risk get🙁

  • Supported Intel® Core™ Desktop and Mobile i3, i5, i7 and i9 processors (Intel® Core™ 12th gen and newer). Fully supported processors are listed in the below section. All other Intel® Core™ processors 12th gen through 14th gen that are not listed below have limited support and can only be used with Advanced Mode.

  • Users with processors not listed above may choose to use Intel Application Optimization under Advanced Mode.

Ugh, they added World of Warcraft to their APO......

This is really tempting me to pick up a 14900KS and slot one in on the wife's system for testing WoW but then again to properly test it I'd also have to slot in my 4090.....

UGH!

It does say Shadowlands and not Dragonflight though but I suspect it will just work in general.

Or I could just find a very nice 13900KS (again) and slot that in for a killer price with 14900K and now 14900KS on the market....oh wait, it still only supports 14th gen atm....

I ordered one from them as well, but there is a 15% restocking fee on opened box CPUs. Just take note.

Yes, there is a 15% restocking fee. This will be my first customer experience with them and I hope to not have to entertain a return by getting an acceptable sample. If it is a terrible sample I will make an arguement that I don't actually want to return it and have no regrets in purchasing it except for the fact that the quality is unacceptable; with that being the sole reason for the return and ask for the option of receving an acceptable quality replacement instead of a return. But, even with the stocking fee that is better than selling it at a loss as an open box on eBay and paying ~15% to them in scumbag fees on the sale.

Yup. And the Cpu is picked up a few days before launch (for try out). Not what people should expect. Remember Intel have snooped up average 14900K for the binning for the KS (+100$ profits for each). Then you know what you risk get🙁

Back to normal. Review sample or bin quailty expected for people most. And not handpicked for the elite/fab benchers... SP103 and +102 °C. Almost as the max Cpu temp matched the SP score, LOOL

ComputerBase received the Core i9-14900KS from Intel for testing.

It is interesting that people pay money for dead CPUs on eBay. I sold two dead 10th Gen CPUs on eBay for over $100 each a couple of years go. I don't know what they do with them, nor do I care. It's puzzling though.

Two different types people will pay for it. Scammers so they can re-sell it for huge profits on the used market or people that need parts due failed delidding.

Edit. Hmmm. This one was new for me. @Mr. Fox Can you please tell me what is Thermal Paste for Gamers? Can this Asus paste be used for vanilla computer users as etc old me? Hmmm.... I don't think so. Asus premium... $53 for 3 gram and useless add ons. Yep, I saw it today. On top they don't want to show of any thermal conductivity numbers. Yup, it has to be for gamers... And not for me. Do anyone know the thermal conductivity rating? Any Asus fanboys or gamers out there that know?😁

Edit.... For those that don't know 2.5 W/m.k

The small barrel with 33.84g Grizzly Kryonaut Extreme I bought for $110 USD a few months ago looks like a huge bargain compared. And that was an already disgusting price. $55 usd for 3 gram gamer paste from Asus is a scam.

I thought it was nice looking also. I am more curious about the thermal paste guard. I guess it's a thermalright, not Thermaltake.

Yeah after seeing the quality people were getting. And seeing my credit card balance. I started feeling a little sick with my self. Thoughts Like, “Why do I need this” “I can spend this money on my wife and kids instead” 🤣 “I’m being selfish” Maybe if I was selling something to re-coup funds I’d be okay. And I’m not selling my 14900KF lol. I don’t even need a 14900KS.

One cool thing about Central Computers is, when I hit cancel I had the funds back immediately on my credit card. So I can sleep better tonight. Maybe use it later for buying something I need. Or something I can benefit from.

I never keep a credit card balance ever. I pay them all off monthly. If I can't afford it, I don't get it. The smart play is to let the CC cool down and pay off that balance ASAP. 🙂
