I wonder what Asus will charge for swapping out the small nvidia power connector forwards... The half? Aka $1400 USD ? Premium priced products need premium prices for repairs. The Apple way. And what with the rest of the world? Same price philosophy?

Recent feedback has highlighted some gaps in our RMA communication process in the US and Canada

  • We are revising our repair pricing structure for out-of-warranty products; this includes a thorough review process for any abnormal pricing to ensure consistency, transparency and fairness.

Outch. This doesn't look good. But I hope you already are feeling better.

It hurts less than it did yesterday and the day before. Oddly enough it hurts less when I'm wearing a sock and shoe on that foot. Thank you.

I'm very skeptical that the clowns at ASUS will change anything. They've been dishonest and run a shady operation for a long time now. If they do improve at all I suspect it will be temporary until the bad publicity wears off. Then they'll be back to their old tricks. At their very core they are not a trustworthy company and they do not have honorable intentions. I think anyone that believes otherwise it's just living in a dream world. They aren't the only brand that is dishonest, but they might be one of the worst examples of dishonesty in the technology space.

It doesn't matter whether you purchase a flagship motherboard, one of their absurdly overpriced and overrated graphics cards or a chintzy handheld gaming piece of crap, they're going to treat you the same if you need help with one of their products that has malfunctioned or failed. I think they really get off on kicking people when they're down. They make the RMA and warranty process painful, slow and at an added financial cost even when it is their fault the process is necessary.

Some degree of PCB bending is expected on any motherboard that does not have a backplate. Even these ungodly expensive Apex motherboards are bent when they are brand new. For the absurd price they sell for, not having a backplate is kind of inexcusable. But, ASUS ROG products have never been a brand that offers genuine value. They offer compelling features that people are willing to allow themselves to be financially raped in order to have them. Rarely ever is there any real basis in value based on build quality or QC.

Thats true, but ever since reading this horror story its been something on my checklist to look for.

Mine does have something of a backplate but in that corner there is no screw to secure that point of the motherboard. If you look at the pic again you will see the slim piece of metal before it and the open air frame.

Happy Constitution Day. It sounds like you're getting some beautiful weather that is uncommon for Norway. Tomorrow it will be 38°C here and probably 28°C inside of my office, LoL. So your weather there is preferable at the moment. Enjoy the sunshine, brother.

Yup, The weather was fantastic. Here's the menu for the day. Not special, more like a shortened down menu for the big day. You can see the price level for relative cheap resaurant here in central/middle Norway. From $16.50 for the hamburger plate with burger + chips and Pepper beef menu cost $37. Yup, 0.5l beer as you can see from my table outside the door cost close to $13. Not cheap but the restaurants pump up the prices on everything for special days as etc Constitution Day.

Can you spot the very clever photographer in the reflection?😀 Yup that's old me.

Intel Releases Security Updates Addressing 90 Vulnerabilities, Including a Critical AI Tool Flaw

Intel has issued 41 security advisories covering more than 90 vulnerabilities as part of its latest Patch Tuesday update. This routine update cycle addresses numerous issues across Intel's range of products, predominantly on the software side. The highlight of this release is a vulnerability in the Intel Neural Compressor, which has been assigned the highest severity rating of 10.0 on the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS). This critical flaw could allow an escalation of privilege attack via remote access on versions prior to the latest update. The Neural Compressor, a tool not commonly found on most computers but used in AI-engineering workflows, is designed to optimize AI language models by reducing their size and enhancing their performance. Given its specific application, only a targeted user group typically utilizes this tool, though it's critical for those users to ensure they have updated to the latest software release to avoid potential security risks.

If MB manufacturers prefer cut costs on the PCB then you all should expect get banana shaped motherboards in return. At least Asus offer more than 8 layers PCB for their newer Apex boards.

Here's an follow up video. Asus continue as they always do... Blame the users. Nothing wrong with the companies own culture. I wonder how much it would cost if Asus had two 12+4 power connectors that needed to be swapped for their 4090's. Double the price? Aka +$5000 ? 🤪

It is rewarding in a kind of disgusting, sadistic way, to see them coming under fire. Every experience I have had with them as it relates to warranty/RMA matters over the past eight or so years has demonstrated to me that they lack honor and integrity and are not a trustworthy company. They screw everyone with overpriced products at the cash register and then screw them a second time if they need help with a product failure or defect.

Did something happen to your good CPU? That one would be going back for a refund. I RMA'd four 14th Gen with similarly high voltage requirements.

The chip need higher voltage if you want higher E-core clock speed than stock clocks. Barely 100 Global SP is a bad value whatever people say. +96% of the users run with AIOs, and no direct die and not delidded chips. Intel know this but still bin their chips that should be down binned to K. Or better say... They should never have got the KS stamped on the lid in first place. Much easier to run 5.9-6.0 on the P-cores with the Ecores running stock clocks. If you bin chips... Then bin all cores. Not a few of them. You pay for a Special Edition. Not slight ok K chips. Here home we pay $110 extra for the KS and many users buying the cheaper K get exactly same value. Thats a bad deal.

No my other chip is fine. I really need a non delidded cpu for a regular build though.  I’m thinking about going back to regular waterblock/soldered CPU’s since I run a chiller. I was curious, and It seems the P-Cores on the SP99 14900KS are really really good. 5.9@1.208V and 6.0V@1.270V.

Ouch lol! I thought it was pretty good @Papusan for a low dog SP99. It runs 6Ghz right out of the box with no delid at all. I can’t fault that 1.270V@78c so many chips could not dream of that though, 6Ghz with no delid? This one does it! she is a great scaler 🤣. Just testing for the lowest vmin, in that case we don’t need to increase the E-Cores they are already 4.5E stock.

This chip is 100% solid for a SP99. It’s going to run 5.9P/4.7E/5.0R easy or 6.0P/4.7E/5.0R. The IMC is also looking good too.

While I want to pick on the poor SP99 KS, it runs amazingly well. And I cannot fault it. 🤷‍♂️

+96% users run with an 280-360 mm AIO of all sorts of quality hovering around 24-35C water temp and with a single weak water pump struggling pump out more than 100-130 l/hwr. Right but, using my cooling setup, not

many chips can run 6Ghz with no delid at 1.270V. This chip can definitely do it! And it’s a turd on top of all that 😂. I thought that was pretty astounding.  This chip has top end GRUNT! SP99 or not. It’s still good lol

It seems buildzoid sneak peek and enjoy my bench results for the testing of his GTX 980. And not the first time I have seen it🤩

Btw. Ranting on AMD. Seems he hate the double ccd's for Ryzen equal as for the modern Intel Error-cores😂

And the future seems grim for next gen processors. People are happy with weak trash. And if Intel want Microsoft back they need to make more modern Cpu's to match what Microsoft and Dell preffer for their Jokebooks/tablets.

The new modern @Mr. Foxdrooling already? Please use only wet cloths and not paper towels. Because vomiting smells bad inside the house. Or just go outside.

The new Surface Pro with OLED display and ARM processors is now official

Soon there is nothing great to put inside your high end desktops. Want an desktop processor... You get tuned phone cores (clocked higher for desktop phone chips) glued on the pcb that match Intel's 1851 LGA socket😟

ooo @Papusan its not quite that bad yet, or I would have jumped ship. Getting 53k gpu in firestrike with a laptop 4080 is pretty good and was in 3090ti territory. nothings really changed except mxm and lga and bga. laptops still have power and have never and will always be weaker due to size. I wish I didnt trade my laptop back now, but getting the Hiboy ebike for recreational uses and having cash in hand is nice. I was about to buy a lenovo legion 7 pro gen 8 for 2800 but got turned off as its gpu performs worse than what I returned.

in the big scheme of things you guys have 4090s and rarely game. like torture seeing it. you can probably do 8k/120 with a 4090 with dialed down settings. but long story short laptops are weaker but as for becoming more like tablets ect we are not their yet.....nothings changed

I think a RTX4080 laptop is pretty sweet! I would want a 1080P or 1440P monitor though since they are 12GB VRAM. With DLSS and Frame Gen, it would absolutely rip! Plus, with a smaller screen like that pixel density would be really really great. Plus, the lower the power the better and the higher your cpu will boost and the more frames you’ll get.

Very impressed with this @Mr. Fox 6.0P/4.8E/5.0R on this SP99 the ram is at 8400 XMP @1.400V and maxed out 262k tREFI. Passes all preliminary ram testing so far. I am a little taken back by this CPU. 🤣

Also, R23 peaked at 355 watts in normal priority with 6.0P/4.8E/5.0R with no delid at all. Another WOWZA for sure. vMIN was 1.290 (78C) package temps, I am a little surprised it even runs Cinebench R23 like this.

Was looking for just a random CPU to use, I am trying to get away from direct die and go back to soldered CPU's since I have a chiller anyways.

The trend goes the wrong way....

One of the most noticeable trends in laptop design in 2023 is the reduction of weight and thickness. According to a report by IDC, the average weight of laptops sold in India in 2023 was 1.6 kg, down from 1.8 kg in 2022. Similarly, the average thickness of laptops was 18.5 mm, compared to 20.2 mm in 2022. This makes laptops easier to carry around and fit in bags or backpacks.

You think you can put 10L water in an smaller 8L plastic bag? (Less space---Worse cooling = Declined performance vs what you could have.... Yearender | How laptops have evolved in 2023: Thinner and lighter than ever

More bad news for tech enthusiasts... I really hate the direction this go with tech

How much cash did UL/Futuremark get from Microsoft to avoid compatibility with Windows 10 versions below 21H2 ? 😟

4080 or 4090 laptops are pretty slick and pack a punch. Imagine walking around with a 4090 laptop with the power of the last gen $2000 3090ti under the hood. I fancy the MSI Titan, but that price...... There is an Asus G18 13980HX + 4080 for sale open box close out at our local BB for ~$1500 I keep telling myself I don't need to go round 3 with Asus and the G18.

As for moving away from DD, is that why you're selling your R batch and just going back to a standard OEM lidded chip to avoid the hassle and issues? Do you regret delidding the R batch? I was re-watching your video on the tubez here:

I can see where you need D2D reliability and your chiller can really tame a stock OEM chip that DD can be a hassle. I'll inbox you to talk about it and pricing.

I cannot imagine being happy with a lidded CPU, even with chilled water. The overclocking is far too limited even with water near freezing point unless the CPU is bare die.

I suppose if I didn't care as much about overclocking and primarily used a PC for work and gaming I might feel differently. I don't expect a crazy good overclock on my munchkin ITX system I use for work, but I would care if I did not have another option available for benching.

Hey, I just responded to your message. Only selling to get back to basics, and go back to soldered chips. I have a chiller and Liquid Metal doesn’t last me very long with a daily 15c water temp. Also, I’m kinda bored with the chip. Might seem crazy but, I have explored every alternative with it. I’m literally ram testing a SP99 unexplored (14900KS) and having a blast right now finding new unexplored roads 🤣. Nothing wrong with my R batch, but I’ve just done it all and tried it all on my setup.

After having upgraded my daughter's and nephew's systems, had enough components to slap together a little Fortnite monster in a new budget Raidmax case (with peel still intact 🤣)

Asus Prime B660 D4

12400

3060ti

16GB (RGB) or 32GB (non-RGB) of G.Skill DDR4

500GB of scintillating storage

GX2 600w PSU

Raidmax RGB case

This one will be going up on FB and eBay

My daughter's system is slowly coming together as I'm taking my time and hand selecting all the components but it is definitely an ode to AMD from top to bottom unlike my desktop color scheme that now reflects AMD (CPU) and Nvidia (GPU) with new colors from my standard purple for everything (with EVGA cable tie since I'm still running the 1600 P2 from EVGA).

How much does a system like this sell for? I love it. Would be perfect for my 12 Y/O daughter.
