Quest was purchased a while back but never mentioned..yeah you old timers need to get with the times..

Anyone of you see the game demo body cam??? People are saying it's the first photo realistic game to come out.

I'd check it out like our rich member jaybee and his $ 25 890 000 beast of a desktop

it looks photo realistic but i think it still work.

Stuff from my most recent shopping adventures:

  • Gigabyte RTX 4070 Super: Got this open-box from Best Buy for less than what a vanilla 4070 would have cost. Box was beat up, but the card was in perfect condition. Fans run super quiet with no perceptible coil whine. Gives slightly better performance than my RTX 3080 while having 2 GB more VRAM and consuming 100W less power.
  • MSI G274QPF 1440p/180 Hz monitor: Bought at Costco to replace a no-name Chinese monitor with similar specs that started failing after just a couple months. Said Chinese company's support wasn't particularly helpful, and they have no US presence to return for RMA so I'm going to take the financial loss on the chin. So far the MSI is working well. I like that it doesn't have any RGB nonsense and there's a Type-C input, though oddly, no built-in USB hub so you can't use it as a one-cable solution for a laptop.
  • 2011 17-inch MacBook Pro: Purchased from Vintage Computer Fest Midwest last weekend. I had its 15-inch counterpart back in the day, and while I consider it the best computer I've ever owned, I always wanted the 17. Aside from some dirt and a few nicks, the chassis is in surprisingly good condition, at least relative to similar ones I've seen for sale on fleBay. The battery even holds a charge, though I still plan to replace it. The seller "modded" it to run Big Sur, but I'm going to remove it in favor of a more era-appropriate OS that can still run 32-bit applications and games. Overall, not a bad buy for $75.

Open box ASRock Z690 Velocita motherboard for $112. Since it has 4 memory slots it (sadly) can't do better than DDR5 6400. So, now I have the opportunity to experience what DDR5 memory speeds feel like for the push-button computer "experts" of the world. You know, those PopCap gaming titans that have mastered the advanced aspects of web browsing, but are frozen in terror to even think of entering the BIOS. My other three desktops are 2 slot systems with the memory running 2000+ MT/s faster than this low budget build. Other than being emasculated with 4 memory slots, it's actually a very respectable product. It was worth $112 and doesn't have to be excellent at memory overclocking at that price. (ASUS and MSI 4-slot "enthusiast" motherboards that sell for 10 times more than what I paid for this suck just as bad at memory overclocking, LOL.)

🤩😁🤩 Small things in life can make big happiness :O)
Found a nice Logitech mx518 after looking for a long time.

SH online in good shape, should be in the post tomorrow, to replace my 10 years (?) old one, that has been through many repairs and salvage work to keep it going, now falling more or less apart (but there will be some spare parts to keep).

Such a great mouse, ergonomically & superb++ tracking on any kind of surface. Over the years there was several iterations with different names, have owned (and worn out) all of them. My old one, and the new one.

Brocade icx7250 to replace my Cisco 2960x that I originally meant to build into a ccna lab (and never did).

It'll be nice to play with some 10Gbps networking. I have 4 work workstations I use for proxmox that I added 10G cards to some time back. Should also let me play with some other things

Crampons (not the shoes)

I went hiking up Mount Fuji yesterday with 2 friends who got me into mountain hiking.

It is currently out of season (by 1 week) as weather could turn nasty at any moment. Fortunately I didn't need the crampons, but had to have them just in case.

The weather did turn windy but no snow.

I still prefer a blue tooth mouse. Mostly from Logitech.

Agree a lot regarding practicality, got other mouses. But using the MX, for it's sensational good tracking on any kind of surface \ fabric + ergonomics, relaxing for hand, long use without pain or strain.

So the wife got interested in boudoir photography so who am I to say no.  Let's just say she's smoking hot in the photos.  We are getting into this so much that we just purchased these for the photo shoots and for our upcoming video podcast about autism and sharing stories from us and others.  I will keep you up to date when it starts airing on YouTube and all the popular podcast channels.

^^^ Now spent some time setting up and using the Pixel 8P, all well. Update to A15 wo problems, fast & responsive, battery (in my use) very good, great display (+flat!) etc.

Initial feeling of being left on a desert island compared to the (by some called) "bloatware" from Samsung (which in my world is rather great personalisation\options\flexibility\good apps -like Notes, Device Care, Smartswitch, Gallery and more). Have found OK solutions for most + acceptance of the many small differences (example volume buttons under power).

Whatever, got more than hoped for in camera improvements vs my midrange Samsungs. After testing did not like Samsung 'S' line's image 'philosophy' (=defects in my opinion), went out of the shopping list. Remained Pixel\Xiaomi\Honor, the super deal on the Pixel made it a no-brainer. So far an excellent choice.

I only use Seagate spinny drives. I have had every other brand fail numerous times on me. I have not had a Seagate HDD fail, The SSHD that I had pooped the bed but that was in the SSD side of the drive.  Just bad design.  The regular HDD drives have been rock solid!

Funny enough, most of my failures have been Seagates. Granted, these are SMR Barracudas pulled out of external enclosures to save a few bucks. But overall Backblaze data generally doesn't point out any meaningful difference in drives anymore usually, so I just go by what's available / what's the price per TB.

To go along with our new lighting, we just bought a new to us Canon eos 1Ds MkII.  17mp of full frame beast goodness. I picked up a 50mm 1.8 lens to start us off.  Can't wait to get it next week. Gonna be fun!

A fresh, new, large battery for the Dell 5540.
And original ! See https://notebooktalk.net/topic/519-buy-non-original-battery-or-not/

Small battery fitted (gave room for an xtra hd). Had 'not fantastic' battery time (over time lost quite some capacity, and removing the HD > think it used quite some power). The 97wh batt should fix things. Nice packaging. Looking forward to improvement :O)
