OK, remembered there was a thing with QHD and the KM-G. Search for GSYNC and you will find apost by @wilpang and he had the QHD 165Hz panel with GSYNC. Seems rather tricky though to hunt down the right panel as @solidus1983 also earlier in this thread seemed to have the right type but not quite as it later turned out. So when you buy a panel you may want to look for a supplier that guarantees Gsync functionality with the KM-G.
matyee
Thanks for the info. What I have leart regarding gsync (had 30+ clevos) you need to find the exact panel which it is assembled with, then you are good to go. Otherwise forget gsync, bios, cpu, gpu and panel needs match. If i manage to get the x170, i will do the 4k replace to FHD, for me the AUO 5.1 would be good, however QHD 165hz would be better 🙂 I have found the original listing with QHD panel, however it is not written if there is gsync or not, I assume yes. - 17.3in; QHD; 2560x1440; 165Hz; eDP; 40pin; 100% sRGB; BOE NE173QHM-NY2 [add $80] Laptop: Clevo P775TM1-G i9 9900k/32G/2080RTX 8Gb G-SYNC/2TbSSD/IPS 144hz FHD/330W Desktop: Intel 13700k/Asus strix B660/Inno3D 4070Ti 10G/4TbSSD/SFX 750W/NCASE M1/Custom loop/Alienware 2518HF 240Hz G-SYNC

After asking the question on XMG's discord for someone with a 2K Panel with G-Sync enabled i got the reply of Monitor Name (Manuf): BOE CQ NE173QHM-NY2 Monitor Name: BOE [Unknown Model: BOE09D9] Whilst my panel is Monitor Name (Manuf): BOE CQ NE173QHM-NY2 Monitor Name: BOE [Unknown Model: BOE0977] I tihnk the Monitor model is difference is what is causing the issue even though the panel i have is a G-Sync panel. Not only that VRR option has gone missing in Windows too. As i am on the latest VBIOS, EC firmware, System Firmware this is the only thing left which means i wasn't so lucky after all. As you can see it is not that easy - you need a special version of that panel. Imo it is worth it though to find it as QHD is the best compromise when you find yourself in situations where you want to open web pages or other stuff side by side - that stuff does not really work that well on a FHD panel. solidus1983
@matyee If you are going for a 1440p 165hz screen with GSYNC you need to make sure its the following one Monitor Name (Manuf): BOE CQ NE173QHM-NY2 Monitor Name: BOE [Unknown Model: BOE09D9] Thats the only one i know that is G-Sync compatible the BOE09D9 part is important. {Main System:} The Beast Spoiler {Cooling:} Corsair H170i Elite {Mainboard:} Asrock X670E Pro {CPU/GPU:} AMD Ryzen R9 7900x3D / AMD RX 7900 XTX (Asrock Phantom) {RAM/Storage:} 2x 16GB DDR5 Corsair Vengeance 6400MT/s , 13TB WDD SN850X 2x4TB, 2x 2TB, 1x 1TB {PSU/Case:} Corsair RM 1000x V2, Corsair 7000D Airflow (Black) {OS:} Windows 11 Pro Realtek Nahimic 3 Modded Driver for MSI Systems:Latest

Don_prince
I made some 140mm fan adapters from the rear, There may be fitment issues, but thanks to the help of XMG, they should be a perfect fit. As I have no intention to have my 3d printer keep me awake for 5 days, and have no clue how to remove the supports on the inside I will order them from JLC and have them powder printed. Find the files attached if you want to print yourself, or let me know if you want to jump in with the first batch and risk it with me. It should snap into the screwhole and the lip behind the screen. If that doesnt work I am thinking about using velcrow. Feel free to use the 3d models however you like. anassa
@Don_prince Just out of curiosity, how would this help? Regular PC fans are just in-out directional fans, while laptop fans tend to pull in and push out to the sides, the fan blade shape is very different. Looks like a really cool idea though. Im counting on pulling more volume of air through the back exaust. Yes in the image the fans are backwards, but those are only there for fitment. I dont know how efficient normal PC fans are compared to the little ones in the laptop. I am hoping more air and a little bit more silent but I dont keep my hope up. If they pull a lot likely the little fans in the laptop will continue to make noise coasting along. If the side exausts start pulling air instead of pushing I call that a win. With the duct all of the fans sucking power is through the back exaust so, unless the passthrough is too restrictive it should always increase rather than reduce. I will report back how well it performs...

win32asmguy
You have to wonder why Clevo did not just make a last hurrah X170 drop in board with LGA1700 Z690 and same power limits as previous gen. It would have been far more useful than the NH55 which maxes out at a 3070Ti mobile, and with bios updates could even support 14900K as many desktop Z690 boards can do. Of course, Intel probably does not want anything in a laptop outperforming their HX BGA chips so I doubt they would have collaborated with Clevo on a project like that. 1 Desktop - 12900KS, 32GB DDR5-6400 C32, 2TB WD SN850, Windows 10 Pro 22H2 Clevo X170SM - 10900K, 32GB DDR4-2933 CL17, 4TB WD SN850X, RTX 3080 mobile, 17.3 inch FHD 144hz, System76 open source firmware, Windows 10 Pro 22H2

Somebody with contacts at Intel should ask them about a socketed CPU in a laptop. I am pretty sure that if Asus, Gigabyte or MSI wanted to go socketed Intel would allow them to do it in one model. Socketed would be nice as it would force a slightly thicker laptop, I think it would add maybe 5mm? That has other benefits like the ability to stack SSDs in order to increase drive numbers or alternatively the ability to add a cooling solution for the SSDs, more real estate due to a thicker battery that does not take up half of the space under the keyboard, bigger fans, better CPU and GPU cooling etc. As for Clevo they are not a desktop motherboard manufacturer so for them it may be more difficult to go back to socketed.

Raven
Hi all, Competing club member here (P870TM-G) I picked up a 2080 Super MXM card dirt cheap and got it working in my laptop relatively easy, But I'm having an issue with it shutting off after a long period of high load, This tells me I'm probably cooking the VRM's, Does anyone happen to have a picture or layout of Pad size and location for the card and know if any of the VRM's on the back of the card require cooling? I only ask here because I know the X170KM-G was sold at some point with a 2080 Super in it, Other then that this thing is slaying everything I throw at it compared to what the 1070 was doing, My max temps are 89C on the hotspot and 79-80C on the core when at full load (205-220W Total board power according to Hardware info) Also does anyone know how I can take away some of it's power budget, Even reducing the power budget by 10% probably wont harm performance all that much but the slider in MSI afterburner is grayed out. kela-slk
hi. can anyone help me? I have a laptop X170km and I temporarily installed a 10100t processor. I installed a video card and 2080 super and 1070 and 1080 from 775tm, but the laptop freeze startup when loading Windows or efi shell from usb. If you be in the BIOS (and if not freeze in any menu, choise startup SSD), then after a 2 minute the laptop starts beeping continuously and then turns off after 30 seconds. The video card is not recognized in the BIOS at all - an empty space. cannt find unlocked bios for X170KM with instrucrions for flashing or with working scripts - i need activated intel graphics for testing - its hardware issue or problem that KM is not supporting 20XX 10XX series graphics cards. My laptop vendor is ORIGIN PC EON 17-X. Bios version 1.07.0BTOPC EC version - 1.07.04. unfortunately i have not factory GPU (30XX series). i have 2 laptops identical - same issue on both laptops. cannt load any OS, not start bootload Flash drive with new windows install menu - nothing boot. i try another MXM cards (without additional power - gtx980m\780m\p3000\p4000) - black screen, no POST. My old p775tm working great with mxm standart cards. i cannt find DOS\EFI shell utility for backup my OEM bios and save him for editing (unlocking optimus options)... Some links in 1-st post is not working....

First - i tested RTX2080S in my P775TM, card is very hot and very very much power consumption (over 200-210w only GPU, but i think - higher) I use my 330w AC adapter and laptop is shutdown in stress test. i buy 780w eurocom and stress test no powering off my laptop, but temps after 3 min stress test - higher than 90C, in games - after 5-10 min temps are 90-95C (cpu and gpu). No Possible change power consumption, power profiles (with CCC or without) not working, and if you start game on low settings - only this can reduce power GPU... Settings for change core or memory clock - not working! alternative - RTX2080 no super - TDP - 150w - not hot as Super...
