RTX 3080 in M18xR2? Should I do it? lol

Anyone willing to test in our beasts? Core is offset but main thing first is to know if it boots up and if the driver actually installs fine. 

 

I'm thinking if I can sell my Clevo X170SM-G I may just try this. Should have a much better chance at working than A4500 and my custom A4500 heatsink may fit fine.

Have you made any purchases from x-vsion.com? There was some talk as to if it is Legit.

I have a few systems I want to test it in as well. P751DM-G, P377SM-A and P157SM-A 

 

No idea if it will post at all since Clevo tend to be more touchy on reading the sensors but that price is realistic enough.

 

The heatsink on my P750FM is already modded for center die MXM cards since the card I have installed is also center died (MSI GTX 1080). The believe the 1080 is dying since the system locks up now when ever a 3D load is applied.

Yes they blamed it on resizable bar for not working but I don't think that was the issue. 

 

If you can implement resizable bar in M18xR2 & AW18 BIOS let me know, I can try testing the BIOS.

I did it against my better judgement. I ordered Radeon RX 6600 XT 8GB from x-vsion.com using Pay-pal to make a deposit in HSBC The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited. It will go thru on the 14 Feb. $315.00 is worth the risk. x-vsion.com website even has the drivers to download, which I did just to check for malware, Defender came out clean. The website seems very dedicated to GPU hardware. There is some contact info but I only got an order confirmation. IDK I just couldn't stop myself LOL

Update 14 Feb 2024 Paypal notified me the money is going in and will be complete on 19 Feb 2024, HUH? I should have sent one of those paper checks with a forever stamp in snail mail would have been faster than a computer click

2 reasons, it is cheaper just in case I dont receive anything from this xvision site and I can put it in another laptop maybe my M6700 or m17xr4. If it comes then I'll get the RTX 3080 for the m18xr2. Its so much easier to swap out the m17xr4 than m18xr2. And there is a chance it might work in the M6700, but if it doesn't then the m17xr4 will

Thats funny you say that, well it is really not funny. I am still skeptical about my order. Technical.city does NOT mention a mobile AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT. And searching google turns up only desktop GPU's. Searching  3dmark.com/search also turns up desktop scores, no laptops, maybe I missed something. X-Vision.com did confirm the order and $$ transfer and said they will process soon, now I have to wait and see. X-Vision.com is in China and seems to be the ONLY place that mentions these MXM cards. Do you know anybody with a RTX 3080 mxm??? NON Clevo??? form factor. This is why I orderd the cheapest, usable so as to make the pain as little as possible

Well I know of the RTX 4090 (Quadro version) MXM card from Aetina so I'm sure there were other 3080 MXMs out there that we haven't seen. 

 

RTX 3080 Mobile scores around 30k in FireStrike GPU score

 

my 200w RTX2080 in Area-51m R1 scores 29K in FS 

 

If that 6600 XT is desktop class it will be an interesting performer. 

 

But personally I've had worse luck compatibility wise with AMD Cards (RX 580, W7170M, etc.) working in our MXM laptops vs nVidia versions.

Sorry for the suspence but you should be in my shoes! LOL It came yesterday after I made the post.  Nice card but I didn't take a pic instead I matched up the m17x r4 GPU heatsink and it needed modifications, Hacksaw and File's. So out to the shed most of the day, took a few pics. I will re post  Just wanted to say X vision is right On!!

So here are a few pics. Got it installed in m17x r4 and it is recognized. I am having issues with AMD drivers and software. The latest drivers

amd-software-adrenalin-edition-24.1.1 installs but comes back with an error the hardware does not match. So I am trying different drivers but they keep getting stuck. Hey @ssj92 X Vision is safe to order from now get that 3080 so if it works I will get one. I wonder if there is a .inf file that can be modded or do I need to disable driver signature enforcement?

Oh yeah the GPU fan isn't turning on so I needed to run HWInfo everytime to keep it cool. Man I thought I burnt my finger!

 

Edit added a few pics for clarity, see where I files the resistor on the card to help it fit under the copper heatpipe, also filed the copper hoping not to puncture it
